    I have been playing for 33 years, more than half of those years professionally, and Yamaha makes a very good guitar. I have quite a few instruments, and several higher end guitars, but I would have no qualms about playing a Yamaha on stage, or anywhere else. The best for the money? I think so, and completely agree with the opinion of the interviewer.

    I bought a FS800 for my 11 year old as his first guitar. Really well made, sounds great with the scalloped bracing and the small body is ideal for him to learn to play guitar. Just a real solid starter guitar that plays like a more expensive guitar.

    I have had the FG 800 for a few years, it's one of my "leave out" guitars for when I'm working (though I do put it in a gig bag at night or anytime it's not being used and even use D'addario Humidipaks to maintain the humidity since where I live is brutal in the winter).
    At any price it is a great sounding and playing guitar, but without a doubt it would be hard to find anything in its price range to compare!! In fact it sounds better than many guitars 2 to 3 times (or more) it's price!
    Is it as nice as my Furch Yellow Master's Choice Gc-CR?...no, that's at a completely different level...but I still enjoy playing it!
    In fact it was one of the guitars that I took on vacation recently and it was wonderful having such a nice instrument that I didn't have to worry about.

Brought it home and compared it to my $500 Martin DX1AE. Believe it or not, the Yamaha sounds and plays better. The Martin is a beast to play compared to the FG800. Honestly, both guitars sound a little harsh tone-wise and it's not from the aggressive playing. For the price, it's ok. To really judge how good a guitar is, time is the ultimate factor. From experience, these lower end guitars always get super stiff to play after a year or two.

    I really wish Yamaha would continue production of the FG700 along with the FG800. Having played both models I prefer the shorter sustain of the non-scalloped bracing on the FG700. I don't see scalloped bracing as an upgrade (aside for it costing more to produce) just an option some players will want and some will not.

    so exactly what is the diff from the 700 series?

    • @musicvilladotcom
      @musicvilladotcom  7 лет назад +1

      The big difference is the addition of scalloped braces on the 800 series. The new 800s sounds great!

    • @DougHinVA
      @DougHinVA 6 лет назад +1

      yes; I played all the guitars in a normal price range (under $600) at SamAsh and I was going for a new FGX800C at about $250 best price. But For $170 was an FG800, barely used, in violin burst and LR Baggs M1A and locking Gotohs and RoadRunner deluxe padded Cordura bag. All were unmarked in any way and the total was $170. Watch SamAsh for used guitars, as I do in Richmond, VA. The FG800 and variants are stunning at $300 and less.

    What should I buy? Yamaha FGX800S? or FGX830S? Thus the additional $200 on the 830 worth it? Need help :(

    • @LMChavez980
      @LMChavez980 7 лет назад

      Judd Baltazar I mean it really up to the sound that appeals to you more. The 830 has rosewood back and sides which will give you a very loud but serene and deep type of sound (I've tried the normal FG830). The 800 has nato back and sides which is a wood similar to mahogany but in my experience from playing 800 it has also a loud but more punchy, direct, kind of dryer sound to say but in a nice way. The best to do is try them out and see what sound you like. I can't really tell you if it's worth an extra 200 because of sound preferences and of course depends on your money. If you're looking to maybe bridge the middle look at the fgx820 which has mahogany back and sides and from playing it my self it's sound has an edge over the 800. There's just this extra depth of sound that you get from the mahogany but it won't be as deep as the rosewood from the 830. Hoped this helped in some way

    wood guitars. I play a 1968 Martin D35. Bought in 1969. It's the holy grail of guitars. But the Preston Thompson is a usurper!!!

      Brian Richardson I used to own one of the original FG140 models.I replaced the nut to increase the string spacing as much as I could but the spacing at the bridge was also very tight.I kept it for 20 years but it was always a struggle. Nowadays I won't consider any guitar with anything less than a 45mm nut.

    FS models have a 25" scale and FG models have 25.5" scale. All the new Red Label guitars have a 25" scale but share the same body dimensions as the 800 series. Funny how this NEVER gets mentioned. Short scale guitars have slightly less string tension and therefore, they are a little bit more comfortable to play - especially higher up the neck. All the rest of the demo is just repeating the specs, only not very accurately. However, I agree that the 800 series are nice instruments at an unbelievable price point.

    I recently bought a fs800. The action is way too high, combined wit the close string spacing makes difficult chords about impossible for a beginner. Why don't they set them up right to start with? Now have to take it to a stranger spend money and hope they don't damage it. Sure if you've been playing twenty years it might not bother you but this is entry level
