The new design scalloping on the FG830 requires light or medium strings. I use Martin MSP 4050 custom light phosphor bronze. And I use a string cleaner after every session.
I have four different acoustics. An FG700, FG830, Sigma, and a Guild D240e. They are all dreads, and each has its own tone. Everyday I can't decide which of the four I want to play. Sometimes I'll reach for my Guild because it's the only one with a pickup that I can plug into my amp. And without realizing it, I was able to get my Laney LA20C to have a really good distortion which I prefer over a clean sound.
I picked up an FS830 Tobacco Sunburst and after playing it for about a year now, the sound has "opened up" a bit and tonally I think it has gained some bass and slightly more volume but, it will never get the projection of a full sized dread. For what you get though, I don't think there is any other guitar on the market that can compete with it for the price. Great sound and tones from a smaller guitar for people like myself who are of a smaller stature or just want a great guitar for travelling as well. Yamaha makes some of the best bang for the buck guitars out there right now and even the lower cost models sound really good and play really well. Cheers!
I've got an fs820 and a taylor 214 koa, gotta say I didnt realise how far out of its price range the fs performs until I got the taylor. If you want an acoustic for around £300 this series is the one to go for.
That was exactly the comparison i was looking for. 🙏🏼. Tough decision to made. They both sound amazing. I already have an parlour size guitar and love it. But for strumming maybe the fg 830 might be better?
My FG830 came with the Autumn Bursted finish. Totally beautiful. I'm just not drawn to the standard top cover as seen in most acoustic. I actually favor a dark wooden finish all around a guitar. Gives it a more authentic look to it.
I agree the FG830 is ‘deeper’ The new design scalloping on the FG830 requires light or medium strings. I use Martin MSP 4050 custom light phosphor bronze. And I use a string cleaner after every session.
Due to the pandemic, I can't go to the music store (closed) to test out the size/sound of the guitar. I used to own a dreadnaught size guitar a few years ago. Looks like I have to wait a little bit longer. I prefer to touch and hold the guitar in my hand comparing to buying online without even physically touching it or testing it. I like both the FG830 or FG850 models. By the way, great video. I enjoyed watching it. Thanks.

They say they are Elixir phosphor bronze 12/53. But I suspect they are yamaha proprietry strings for the trip out to point of sale. I put Elixir nanoweb 80/20 phosphor bronze 12/53 on all my yamahas, and find them very much to my liking.
i’m a girl too , and i don’t actually think it would matter i own both the guitar shown in the video and if i’m being honest both are comfortable you really just get used to it, but if you want a solid answer i’d def go with the fs830 !!
I think most are interested in the sound comparison,, but if you need some comment on his skills, i think his skills were more than sufficient to demo the guitars.
I bought FG830 Year ago and I am so happy with it ,it is the same color you played on here ..Lovely piece of art from YAMAHA.
Thanks for the video. I have the FG830 and was considering an FS830. I am thrilled with my FG830. I am sticking with my FG830.

For a complete beginner to guitar, would you recommend the FS or FG?
@@Sinvention FS for sure
Yes l agree, I have them both too, the FG is definitely louder but the FS is not far behind, and they Both are great sounding guitars
Такое ощущение что из всех просмотренных мной обзорах только этот мужик умеет извлекать звук. У других все звенит и троит... Thanks man!

The color on the FS small body is dusk sun red and the dreadnought is tobacco sunburst. I'm loving the dusk sun red on the FS830

Hey! Did you got it?
what string size should i use to fg830? thanks!
11 gauge EB aluminum bronze strings.
Do you happen to know what specific strings come on the FS830?

What guitar stand is that please? TY!
It’s a Hercules guitar stand
