I own a bunch of Yamaha acoustics. F310 F325 F325D F335 FG800 I like my 800 and 335 the best. Great guitars. I did add bone nut, saddle, rosewood pins, polish frets and some other mods to mine. Made these guitars MUCH nicer. Cheap to do these mods as you can get a saddle and nut for about $10 shipped pre slotted with very little work involved. Rosewood or Ebony pins are around $10. Makes a huge difference in the tone of the guitars.

Wrong. The 830 has Rosewood sides and back. The 800 has NATO sides and back. That is a significant difference. And it is why they sound different, and not "identical" as you foolishly asserted. Don't make comments about topics that you do not fully understand bro.
I have both. The video can't do them justice. They both sound and play great, but they're very different. The FG830 is defiantly has more low end bass. It doesn't sound better than the FG800 because they both sound good. They're just different. I recommed getting both. 😊

It's crazy but when the 800 came out, I remember being blown away, thinking it sounded perfect. Then the 830 came along and people started a showdown between the two. Of course, just when I thought Yamaha couldn't make a better sounding guitar in that more bargain tier, wham! They unleash the 830. I know it's all subjective, and I'd be really happy with the 800 (700 for that matter), but to me that 830 just sings beautifully. Well balanced, puncher and sustain for hours. Me likey.
I got a used FG800 and installed a TUSQ nut, bone bridge pins, and lowered the action at the plastic saddle. It sounds more balanced now, I'm amazed at the tone! Gonna order a TUSQ saddle and see what happens...
Picking up an 830 on the first I played it yesterday truly spectacular sounds low end for days just what the doctor ordered. It's really comfortable to play as well! And You sir played beyond beautifully through the Lord reminds me of our playing keep jamming strong!!!

I’m a big fan of Yamahas. I’ve owned a couple and I’m extremely impressed with the 830. I’ve tried it a couple times at music stores and that new scalloped bracing really makes it sing. I am a bass guitar player since years, so I am not that into acoustic guitars, but I bought a FG800 for some home studio recording, and in spite of the lack of my experience with acoustic, I reacted to the good sound. Very clear, crispy and wide(?) like filling the room well. It sings ;)
I have the 830. I bought it one year ago to learn on. I did change out the I’ll fitting cheap plastic saddle and bridge pins with bone ones and they made a world of difference. It wasn’t bad before the change. It is much better now. Before the changers I played the 800, the 820 and the 840.the 840 sounded significantly different. Not necessarily better, just different. I guess because of the maple back and sides. The bass isn’t quite as deep and round as the other two, but the treble is over the roof clearer and brighter. That sound just doesn’t fit my music genre which is bluegrass flatpicking. The laminated mahogany didn’t sound much different from the laminated rosewood, however the rosewood looks much, much, much better. It wouldn’t be a fair comparison to put them up against each other after the saddle and bridge pin change out, and I can’t afford to buy two more guitars just to find out. By the way do get the tobacco burst. It is just too pretty to pass up.
In the beginning, I was gonna go for the 840 before deciding on finally getting the 830. After reading your comment I was glad that I went for the 830. I will also change the nut & saddle to bone.
The difference for a home-style hobby guitarist is negligible. Just buy what you can afford. Must people don't play well enough to justify a high-end guitar. That's why Yamaha makes all kinds.

Just got the FG800... impressive sound. Rich, full, it sings... building up my calluses now as a beginner. I used to have a high quality classical guitar, which of course sounds softer anyway and is with nylon strings. So glad I went with a full dreadnought acoustic. I cant Express difference in sound quality.
I have owned the FG 800 and the FS 800. I sold them both. I now own both, the FG 830 and the FS 830. To me it was a big difference. Between a very good guitar that plays and projects well to one that plays well, projects well, plays well and sounds richer! To me it was all the difference.

I have an FG820. loved this comparo, best Ive seen on the net. I believe you cant beat the FG series on value for money, and they all sound nice. I also own two LL16s a six and a twelve string. They are very fine guitars. Thanks for a great comparo.
Tbh i thought there would be more difference between them, 830 definitely has deeper tone but 800 better higher notes. Depends what u like i guess. I'm gonna look at the 820 as it's inbetween, nearly as good & therefore might be the best value
What is going on with these guitars ? They do sound like a dreadnought and have a nice amount of low end in the sound, but they do not feel bulky when I held them while sitting down and necks are also nice. For an under 500 euro guitar, this is perfect. No electronics, but for street performer who plays without amplification, there is no need to have this feature, maybe I would install aftermarket electronics in mine, if I buy one.
the FG830 is the superior instrument, there's a reason it cost more. it uses real wood as opposed to Laminate on the FG800, still there both solid. FG800 is better suited for a beginner, the FG830 could be for a beginner or intermediate player. another thing to note is the FG830 is much easier to play, the FG800 isn't bad, it's better than alot of other guitars similar to it's price, but the FG830 beats it in overall feel and playability and sound.

Я год назад пришёл в магазин купить Yamaha Fg 830 но когда случайно попробовал сыграть на Yamaha ls6, которая дороже на 300 баксов! Я влюбился в её мощный басовый красивый звук и ушёл из магазина вместе с ней. У неё гораздо больше и толще корпус, есть встроенный невидимый звукосниматель и идёт шикарный жёсткий чехол. И вот поиграл я год на ней и стал замечать неудобства в правой руке из-за толстого корпуса. А тут я сильно захотел приобрести трансакустику на маленьком корпусе. Долго думал и купил съёмный трансакустический звукосниматель на Али Экспрессе и заказал Yamaha Fs 830 в маленьком корпусе, завтра уже её привезут.Жду с нетерпением)) Почему я сделал такой выбор? Я хочу удобную трансакустическую маленькую гитару (с пуговицей для ремня а там она уже есть) с громким и басовым звуком. Корпус из палисандра даст это звучание. И поэтому думаю что это будет идеальным решением для меня. Правда не самым дешёвым но дешевле чем трансакустика Ямаха. Я играл на ней и что мне не понравилось на двух гитарах были очень неровные лады, видимо их неправильно хранили или сделали так топорно. И ещё у неё нет эффекта Дилэй за огромные деньги. Всем добра!!
Well this is a great vid. the only thing missing is an fg820 which seems to fall in between the fg800 and 830 soundwise.I just bought an Fg800 in vintage natural passing up on a really good deal on the 830. I prefer the 820 but they are almost impossible to find and I really like that vintage natural.I have a spruce/maple epiphone frontier. its a sweet sounding guitar but I have always had a fondness for the the mahohgany back and sides.
Coming from an FG700 owner, the treble on the FG830 tickles my ears but not in a very positive way. It's the only reason why I haven't pulled the trigger on the FG830. The FG800 does sound slightly duller in comparison, though. I'd have liked an in-between - a more balanced sound. Any recommendations?
look away from the vid and you cannot tell the dif. Playing them back to back (in your hands) there are subtle differences that make both of these great guitars for the money. If you're tight on cash, get the 800 first. The 830 is a great step up (only marginally) but the hard part will be deciding which one you're gonna play... unless you have four arms ;-) If you want a guitar now and only have $100 or so, the FG335 is phenomenal for the price and can work with any of the 800 series. I have recorded all three including Martins and Epiphones and surprisingly, the 800 is my fav...

Из видео разница слышна не большая. Да и задняя дека с обечайкой фанеры у обоих, дает ли разницу в звучании фанера от типа дерева? Стоит ли Fgx830c своих денег или не гнаться за ней?
Apparantly the difference is finish, 830 has a nicer edge trim etc. Shouldn't be any sound difference per se. If he played 2 different colored 800s or 830s you would probably "hear" a difference. If you chose between them in a guitar shop (rather than buying on line) you would see the difference.
I can't really tell from a video. I think they sound pretty much the same with the 830 being maybe just a little more bass end. That being said, I would choose the 800 since I like the sunburst better!
Neither is necessarily better, per se, they're just different. The FG800 is more sparkly and has a strong upper-midrange, the FG830 is fuller and warmer. The former is a little thinner where the latter has more depth. But in a performance or a mix, it just depends on what you're looking for. A touch of EQ here and there and they'd be indistinguishable.
Would any of these guitars be a good replacement to a jasmine by takahime guitar?? I don't remember the model but will edit when I know :) I'm planning on buying a new guitar for my momma for her birthday in April!!

That's an excellent evaluation. One guitar doesn't necessarily have to sound worse than another because they sound different. Both sound great.

FG830 is slightly more alive with warm sound and 800 is just very warm it is your choice. I am thinking to get 830

You can distinguish between the tone woods . Both sound pretty good. Just a matter of preferance. I own the FS820 which I like.

Микрофон у него не очень. Все плывет... Сам буду брать 830ю. Она лучше даже 820 по звуку. А в 830 в отделке ещё и исчезающий палисандр:).
Я сдал 800 на следующий день и взял 820. Теперь появилась середина и низ + в руках сильно лучше ощущается. Очень не понравилась 800, мутная, не читаемая...
Я год назад пришёл в магазин купить Yamaha Fg 830 но когда случайно попробовал сыграть на Yamaha ls6, которая дороже на 300 баксов! Я влюбился в её мощный басовый красивый звук и ушёл из магазина вместе с ней. У неё гораздо больше и толще корпус, есть встроенный невидимый звукосниматель и идёт шикарный жёсткий чехол. И вот поиграл я год на ней и стал замечать неудобства в правой руке из-за толстого корпуса. А тут я сильно захотел приобрести трансакустику на маленьком корпусе. Долго думал и купил съёмный трансакустический звукосниматель на Али Экспрессе и заказал Yamaha Fs 830 в маленьком корпусе, завтра уже её привезут.Жду с нетерпением))
Почему я сделал такой выбор? Я хочу удобную трансакустическую маленькую гитару (с пуговицей для ремня а там она уже есть) с громким и басовым звуком. Корпус из палисандра даст это звучание. И поэтому думаю что это будет идеальным решением для меня. Правда не самым дешёвым но дешевле чем трансакустика Ямаха. Я играл на ней и что мне не понравилось на двух гитарах были очень неровные лады, видимо их неправильно хранили или сделали так топорно. И ещё у неё нет эффекта Дилэй за огромные деньги.

Update. Since my comment I've bought an FG800. Son and I staged our own slapdown comparison. I still like the 800 over his 830.

Well this is a great vid. the only thing missing is an fg820 which seems to fall in between the fg800 and 830 soundwise.I just bought an Fg800 in vintage natural passing up on a really good deal on the 830. I prefer the 820 but they are almost impossible to find and I really like that vintage natural.I have a spruce/maple epiphone frontier. its a sweet sounding guitar but I have always had a fondness for the the mahohgany back and sides.
Coming from an FG700 owner, the treble on the FG830 tickles my ears but not in a very positive way. It's the only reason why I haven't pulled the trigger on the FG830. The FG800 does sound slightly duller in comparison, though. I'd have liked an in-between - a more balanced sound. Any recommendations?
great review. FG830 has more dynamics and presence. FG800 more flat and soft
look away from the vid and you cannot tell the dif. Playing them back to back (in your hands) there are subtle differences that make both of these great guitars for the money. If you're tight on cash, get the 800 first. The 830 is a great step up (only marginally) but the hard part will be deciding which one you're gonna play... unless you have four arms ;-)
If you want a guitar now and only have $100 or so, the FG335 is phenomenal for the price and can work with any of the 800 series. I have recorded all three including Martins and Epiphones and surprisingly, the 800 is my fav...

Доброго времени суток. Артем, скажи свое мнение о гитарах Fgx800c Fgx830c.Разница в цене 6 тыс. грн. В живую сравнить нет возможности но по сустейну показалось, что Fgx830c выигрывает и глубже басы. Из видео разница слышна не большая. Да и задняя дека с обечайкой фанеры у обоих, дает ли разницу в звучании фанера от типа дерева? Стоит ли Fgx830c своих денег или не гнаться за ней?

Apparantly the difference is finish, 830 has a nicer edge trim etc. Shouldn't be any sound difference per se. If he played 2 different colored 800s or 830s you would probably "hear" a difference. If you chose between them in a guitar shop (rather than buying on line) you would see the difference.

I can't really tell from a video. I think they sound pretty much the same with the 830 being maybe just a little more bass end. That being said, I would choose the 800 since I like the sunburst better!

Neither is necessarily better, per se, they're just different. The FG800 is more sparkly and has a strong upper-midrange, the FG830 is fuller and warmer. The former is a little thinner where the latter has more depth. But in a performance or a mix, it just depends on what you're looking for. A touch of EQ here and there and they'd be indistinguishable.
How do they compare to the fender CD 60s in sound ?
