    Yamaha originally made musical instruments - hence why their corporate logo is three crossed tuning forks! The bikes etc came later but kept the original logo! If memory serves they started as piano makers and diversified into other instruments, their brass wind instruments are very high quality, my daughter wanted one of their flutes but I couldn't afford it as it was over £500, but a beautiful tone, not for grade 3 though!

    I have the FS800 like the one Pete plays at the beginning of the video. I love it. I bought it because it reminded me of the Yamaha guitar that my first guitar teacher played way back in 1970something. My guitar was an el cheapo starter guitar that I got for Christmas. The strings were about 1 1/2" above the fretboard. I wouldn't have known any better if he had nor pointed it out to me. He had the Yamaha and told me, "check mine out" . I remember it because the action was nice and low. He also used Ernie Ball Regular Slinky guitar strings on it like you would see on an electric guitar. Good times.

      anderson silva what’s better fs800 or fg800?

    • @andersonsilva-cz9qt
      @andersonsilva-cz9qt 4 года назад +3

      @@drew5191 It depends on the type of music you play. FG800 is a large size guitar (dreadnought), which produces big sound with a lot of bass sound. It also has a longer scale which creates tighter string tension, which is a little more difficult to press down the strings. FS800 is a small bodied guitar, which produces more mid-range and high end tones, but not as much bass sound as the FG800. Also the scale length is shorter, so it has less string tension, which is a little easier to press down the strings.

    I'm old enough to remember when 'Made in Japan' was synonymous with cheap and nasty, now it equates to quality. I believe we are going down the same road with 'Made in China' - pretty soon it will equate to good quality at a budget price, we may even be there already! I buy according to quality and sound, never mind where it was made. I have a USA Gibson and a Mexican Taylor and I defy anyone to tell me which is which, including the case! Point made!

    • @jed1166
      @jed1166 3 года назад +3

      @Matt Luscombe Me too. Now 65, made in Japan used to mean cheap. I think the Honda and Toyota cars of the mid to late 1970’s changed that. I bought a Civic in 1977, and it ran forever. I have a wonderful Japanese Takamine P4DC, but the Chinese built guitars keep getting better... Yamaha and Guild Chinese built guitars are really good. However, after 12+ years in China, I am reluctant to financially contribute to this current regime by buying nonessential items made here... The difference between “made in Japan” 50 years ago, and buying “made in China” now is that one country was and is an ally, and one is a geopolitical arch enemy... I can’t quit buying food and gasoline to commute here, but I am more inclined to spend $270 more to buy a Mexican made Martin D10 Sapalele than the Yamaha FG850 mahogany, even though I love the sound of the Yamaha... this was a fun , open country in 2009... not now. Not one 1” inch of free space remains here. The current Party leadership, (party members comprise only 6% of the population), hates freedoms of any kind, and believes democracy is a sign of weakness. I will retire and return home as soon as normal travel can resume, maybe October... 🤞the difference between this place in 2021, and when you made your post 4 years ago is night and day😞

    I bought an FG840, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. The maple is stunningly beautiful, and it sounds great. The only slight complaint is a rather high action (mostly on the nut side) when it comes from the factory. I plan to replace both nut and saddle, with graph tech tusq and a bone saddle, respectively, and in the course lower the action on both ends. Truss rod is already set to minimal bend.

    • @zeniktorres4320

    • @tonyn9858

      I've never understood why guitars are not set up properly by the manufacturer. most leave it with a high action at the saddle. we then find ourselves sanding down and adjusting the neck relief. I have a Yamaha LJ6 its 13 years old a lovely guitar but i spent quite a while sorting it. we shouldn't have to mess with them. guitar makers get them nice straight from the factory. Tony uk

    I think both Mick and Pete would really enjoy the Milk Carton Kids if they don't know of them already. Kenneth Pattengale's acoustic lead playing is intoxicating and their harmonization is on point!

    Actually my first guitar was a Yamaha many moons ago & I can't even remember the model number but it looked nice & had binding. I paid £199 for it from a big music store in Birmingham about 30 years ago. I gave it away to my then girlfriend who decided to take up the guitar after hearing me play...hmmm I wonder if she still has it?

    The FG140 came out at the same time as the FG180 and was slightly cheaper.I know 'cause I bought one in '68.Cost me £25! And made in Japan in those days.But the neck/string spacing was so narrow. And that's always been the problem for me with Yammy acoustics. I wouldn't buy one now for that very reason.

    Fs820 vs fgx800c ? Played Les Paul’s (and one strat lol) all my life… im looking for an acoustic to just noddle around on the sofa… guy I know has both for sale used… being an electric player, I don’t have much experience with acoustics lol… never liked how high the action is on acoustics, not sure how easy it is to have them setup… anyway for me whats prob the better choice? I’ll sit around and noodle 90’s rock on the sofa on standard tuning along with drop d… help :)

    The catch with yamahas is that they are on the 650 scale. These 2 extra mms could make a difference I tell you...

    I just got a 12 dreadnought guitar for ...wait for it ....under £200! eBay. So now a National and a mixed hybrid guitar are in my sights. Then an electro-acoustic nylon and lapsteel. And then I may have the basic guitars I want for recording. Fine playing gents.

    YAMAHA is a leading musical instrument manufacturer with there great line of grand pianos , classical guitars as well. Get ready to spend $18000 USD for their best classical guitar.

    Is there a difference between the FG800 and FS800 beside the size, in terms of sound, neck playability and nut width ? Which one would you recommend the most?

    • @tonyz2551
      @tonyz2551 7 лет назад +1

      lawrobi FS800 is brighter but no bass. FG800 has a bigger sound and has more bass. I have the FGX800C its the acoustic electric version of the G800 so if you want it brighter like the S800 you can adjust it with the equalizer on your amp.

    If you have 300$ to spend the yamaha fg and fs line is where it's at. If you have 500 to spend, still the yamaha line is your best bet. Not untill you get up in the 600-700 range does it really start to get outshined and even then, not by much, mostly cosmetic stuff
