Chris, As a fellow musician, what amazes me about Yamaha is whatever instrument they make, it’s great!! I’m a brass player, and Yamaha trumpets, French horns, trombones, tubas….anything made by them is great!! Same thing for their strings, woodwinds and percussion..they’re amazing because most companies specialize in one type of instrument..Yamaha makes ‘em all, and they’re all great!! No, I don’t work for them….
Chris, as I have watched your videos over the videos over the past couple years, I have been struck not only by your tone and note choice, but some other element that I couldn't put into words...until today. Viceral. I LOVE how you attack each note and squeeze every ounce you can out of everything you are putting into it. Thanks for being an honest and inspiring musician and artist.
My 1st guitar was a Yamaha F310. It’s 23 years old, all beat up and I absolutely love it. That guitar changed my life. It still sounds great. The 100’s of songs I’ve written on that guitar…It’s one of those guitars that writes songs by itself. I’ve got much more expensive guitars, Les Paul’s, Strats, Martins etc. That Yamaha acoustic is the one I would never sell. It has that magic.
I played a Revstar Standard P90 Sunset Burst at a local shop. I loved it and have been squirrelling away some coin to buy one. It was so comfortable and I thought the pickups were very good. It sounded great.
You make any guitar you play cool Chris! And I truly believe, even though you have a Yamaha relationship, you are giving the straight scoop on this instrument. I'm sure Gibson or Fender would love to have you as an endorser, so it speaks volumes about the Revstar as an instrument that you've chosen to play that primarily. Wishing you continued success in all you do. God bless and Rev on 🎸
I fell in love with the look of the SG2000 back in the late 70's thanks to Jake Burns (SLF) and Stuart Adamson (Skids) stands out from the regular Gibsons or Fenders
My 1st electric guitar was an SBG500 that I bought in the 80s. I couldn't afford a 2000 back then, and I wish Yamaha would bring back the cheaper alternatives. I guess they must not have sold too well, but I loved mine. It cost half what my LP Studio that I bought as my 2nd, and was just as good. Yamaha make excellent stuff.
The first time I saw the original, Bowden Green Revstar 502T, I was sold. It's still my 2nd favourite guitar of my collection. I've grown to love P90's and the unique voice of my Revstar. The tones Chris Buck gets out of his Revstar are mind blowing.
It's encouraging to see that Yamaha will seemingly let their artists have as much or as little as they wish. They've not tried to impose the THR100 amp on Chris, nor made the keyboard player throw the Nord away and play a Yamaha YC. Nor wince at the word Ludwig that sits proudly on the front of the bass drum - and stage keyboards and drums are a far bigger part of Yamaha's operation than guitars. Refreshing attitude, well done Yamaha.
As a drummer, I played Yamaha drums until the Judge took my kit in the divorce. It was a magnificent custom ordered set. 16 pieces and 18 Cymbals. I lost all desire to play after the tragedy.
The American system is fucked up. Taking away one's things in a divorce? I get it if there's talks about who gets the house, the car, the boat out whatever belonged to both. She's not a fucking drummer, why were you forced to give up your kit? Sorry about that.
Whatever Yamaha is doing for you, Chris, you deserve it. You're the reason why I have such a positive impression of them. They don't get piled in with the various "off brands" and instead get their own respect.
In terms of people having scepticism due to company afilliation... actions speak louder than words. You chris have demonstrated many incredible tones, recorded with and toured with the Revstar. Proving its versatility, robustness and sound. Clearly a Pro level guitar at a fraction of the cost of many other guitars.
Came off the video you're responding to, and before even getting to the subject matter, just wanna say great solo. The phrasing was extremely pleasing.
I've been a guitarist since shortly after the Plague, and I've played them all. I even wrote copy for various Yamaha product lines back in Tokyo. I came back to the U.S. with a custom-built ESP Craft House superstrat, thinking it was the business. My friend had acquired a Yamaha SBG 1300TS, and he wanted to know what I thought. It-was-INCREDIBLE. I did everything I could to obtain that instrument, and it remains one of my all-time favorites. My brother recently gave me a 1980 SSC 500, and it too is incredible.
For those who don't know, The Plague (capitalized) is NOT COVID-19. The Plague occurred in the mid-14th century, so this person has certainly seen some stuff! Ha! When did you do this copy-writing? People who collect catalogs have scanned them and put them online, and I enjoy looking at them, both in Japanese and English. (I live in Japan.) I have the AC6R, which was/is an limited edition acoustic-electric, and it is amazing!
@TavisAllen, I wrote for various Yamaha divisions in the mid-'80s. My first trip on Shinkansen was to the Nippon Gakki facilities in Hamamatsu. Best shabu-shabu EVER is in Hamamatsu!
I believe the Revstar is an amazing instrument. Yamaha makes great equipment regardless of the genre. Bikes, pianos, drums, guitars, or whatever. It’s all top notch kit. Besides, you stand out with your guitars Chris.
My first Yamaha was an SG200 in the late eighties. I bought a Revstar 502T when they came out and my regular gigging guitar is a Pacifica 311H. They're great guitars.
Lordy. I love love love someone with a brutal command of the English language explaining things esoteric and intangible. Chris, you have incredible talents beyond music. What gifts you have learned and earned in your life. Keep it coming. 😊
I saw that video everyone's asking you about. Didn't know why is showed up until they referenced you. Ah, that's why. Thank you again these weekly bits of amazing guitar playing.
I have had mine for about 3 months and look forward to playing it everyday. The neck and fretwork are perfectly made and shaped. One of the best investments I have made. I get sounds I have never heard while playing Gibsons and Fenders for 40 years.
you really speak with that Revstar! And I can't agree more on how guitarist should find their own sound and walk their own paths! Thank you for your sharing Chris!
I really enjoy the RSP20CR I bought second hand a few weeks ago. Great tones that can cover vintage and modern stuffs and as it’s mentioned in the video the ergonomic design is amazing.
I must admit that you were an influence when I purchased my Bowden Green RS502T. I’m a hobbyist and have played for over fifty years. My first was a ‘64 Duo Sonic II (wish I still had it) and over the years picked up Teles, Strats, Jag, Les Paul and SG. I love them all but my number one is the Rev Star. Thanks for your endorsement - you helped me find my true love without reservation.
The Green 502T is the one that most interested me when the Revstar line was first introduced. I don't have any Revstar, as I mostly play acoustic, but perhaps some day...
The Revstar is incredibly underrated. Picked up a standard a few months ago and have sort of obsessed with it. Thinking about getting a professional version.
I play very little, but have been an avid live music fan (and I do mean avid) for going on 40 years. When I first saw it, the Revstar really caught my eye. What I thought might be a passing fancy never went away and I now consider the Revstar as the best looking electric of all time. When Chris Buck plays it, it's also one of the best sounding. Thanks for posting.
Chris, I don’t mean this as anything but a sign of respect. I’m not a fan of your music at all, but I am a huge fan of your playing, and I love your content! You and Matteo Mancuso are all the Revstar will ever need, 2 phenomenal players that a lot of people are aspiring to be! Keep on slaying that axe!
Quality content, honest commentary and guitar playing that would make anyone envious. 10/10 as always, easily one of the best guitar channels on RUclips
I recently picked up a Yamaha Red Label FSX5 acoustic guitar. It compares very favourably to my Martin 000-15S and my Gibson J-35. Very much worth checking out in the acoustic world. Incredibly well-balanced guitar.
Chris! Great video. I love the revstar and when I can spare the money, I'll get the p90 standard. However, I used to work in QC in a big music shop in Germany (Not Thomann) and I found out that almost every Yamaha guitar could punch way above their weight. The build quality in comparison to the other products of similar pricing is outstanding
If the Revstar is really a niche guitar (which is only true when you allow for the idea that a niche can be a pretty huge space ... ), I think that's great. And I hope it stays that way. To me, the Revstar was the first new instrument that came along that was perfect in its design, without trying to be one of the big boys, or going too far in "the other direction", where things start looking out of place and weird. That's a very tricky feat to achieve, and I do think Yamaha's experience in motorbike design may have a lot to do with it. The Revstar has design pedigree written all over it. Form follows function, no unnecessary frills and flourishes. If anything, the first generation was even better in that way. Obviously, it also helps when you can make it sing.
@@the.communist I guess you're talking about the "Sensei" model, and I see the similarities. But it's a far cry from acknowledging that to calling it a "copy".

I am sorry and it is not easy to tell you, my Dad passed away June 23rd . Well you're gonna make any guitar sound good. Loving Cardinal Black, that is the right place for you, outstanding band. The videos before that you were the only shining light. This band is great, tight, great vocals, and of course awesome guitar!
You speak every bit as well as you play. Your tone and playing stand out as yours alone. As much as I love the character of Les Pauls or Strats, it is refreshing that the blues/rock sound you are best known for stands apart from either of those classic flavors. While a Strat or LP in your hands is easily identifiable as Chris Buck's playing, it is the Revstar's tone that, for me, marks your playing best. For sharing your music, thoughts and experience... Cheers.
Hi Chris. Your video's inspired me to buy a Revstar RSS02T, and I am so in love with it. I lead a sheltered musical life, and hadn't come across you as a player through researching the Revstar. Now I am a fan of Cardinal Black. Are you guys planning to play in Melbourne, Australia in the future?
Yeah, very cool looks on the range. And it's a variety of looks for the range, to specific. Not just different colors. And TST! I dig on my After School Satan lunchbox, haha!
I also have a Revstar simply because I wanted PAF tones in an affordable and interesting package. While I'm not a blues guy I agree 100% with your assessment that the novel shape/aesthetic leads to new ways of playing and approaching guitar. I think everyone can agree that the market needs more options than the endless tele/strat/gibson clones. As always your insight is way more thoughtful and constructive than Shull's, don't know why anyone watches that guy tbh.
Nice discussion, Chris. I ended up with a Yamaha SA “by accident” when I went looking for a semi-hollowbody and they had a used one - just one! - available. It played so well! It beat all the competition (because I didn’t have Gibson money) and I have been loving it more all the time. Great guitars at fair or better prices.
I had to watch this solo several times it’s so good! I noticed at the end of the vid you were kicking the lead out of you way ( I too find myself doing this when using cables) and I wondered how come you don’t use a wireless on your guitar? 😎👍
the intro jam was some of the most gorgeous beautiful tasteful soulful blues guitar playing I've heard, not a sour note, amazing technique, incredible texture and creative phrasing.
Too bad Rhett had to show his ignorance and Guitar snob attitude with his video on Yamaha. Thankfully, more accomplished guitarists like Chris here understand the value that Yamaha provides in their guitar lines and their quality of build and he’s not concerned with the guitar snobbery issue.
Do you guys really believe Chris would appreciate you bashing on Rhett's musicality? YT is a commercial platform and both are doing well in their specific niche by giving their audiences, what they expect. If you hate on Rhett, it's more likely you hate that he's not adressing to your financial possibilities. Yamahas are great, so are Novos. Both guys are way over average guitarists, playing pretty down to earth music in bands which musically have a lot in common. Don't hate.
I got an rs320 in a trade and figured I’d just move it along for another guitar I was interested in. Picked it up and plugged in for the first time and it’s now currently my favorite.
I respect the hustle of essentially taking advantage of a social media blip to make an ad for your sponsor. But for real you make Yamahas look good and I don't know why they're not more popular instruments.

As a fellow musician, what amazes me about Yamaha is whatever instrument they make, it’s great!!
Don't forget their wonderful percussion instruments and drum kits!
@@TheOsfania you’re right..I did mention percussion, but you are indeed correct!!
You're as eloquent verbally as you are on the guitar. Amazing. Greetings from a fellow Yamaha guitar lover.
100% agree. Chris’ way with words is up there with his playing.
I constantly find both your playing and your observations very refreshing and honest. Keep the faith!
I enjoy your playing immensely. I too play a Yamaha 302S. Have owned it for many years and it serves my purpose perfectly. Thanks for posting.
THIS is how you incorporate the 'widdily bits' into authentic, soulful playing.
A Chris Buck model with the one piece bridge and mother of pearl parallel inlays would be in my cart now
You make any guitar you play cool Chris!
Amazing guitars - still got my SG 1300 for the same reasons
@@castleanthrax1833 What about the Super Fligher? Ive heard it was better in some ways. Ive got one.
What about the Super Fligher? Ive heard it was better in some ways. Ive got one.
@@emelle1283 I've never played one, so I have no idea.
The first time I saw the original, Bowden Green Revstar 502T, I was sold. It's still my 2nd favourite guitar of my collection. I've grown to love P90's and the unique voice of my Revstar. The tones Chris Buck gets out of his Revstar are mind blowing.
The tied up in blue solo is easily my favourite of all time, goosebumps every time
I have no idea why I love this guy
Damn. I feel your pain... 😢
The American system is fucked up. Taking away one's things in a divorce? I get it if there's talks about who gets the house, the car, the boat out whatever belonged to both. She's not a fucking drummer, why were you forced to give up your kit? Sorry about that.
Wow, that sucks man. I can’t imagine losing my guitars like that.
Was the drum set a gift from your ex wife? My ex husband stole my bass and my amp after I left him, but can't imagine why a court would demand that
@@GiselleDK He stole your stuff? What a d... An awful man.
Whatever Yamaha is doing for you, Chris, you deserve it. You're the reason why I have such a positive impression of them. They don't get piled in with the various "off brands" and instead get their own respect.
i can't stress it enough that this is definitely one of the best guitarist of our generation and youtubes best guitarist
100% agree with having a guitar that becomes a reflection of you and not a reflection of others that you are trying to be. Great video
Yeah, Chris is payed and liar. 🤔 As if Yamaha didn't make great quality instrument, way ahead of the two legacy brands.
Yamaha's from decades past were awesome. The modern ones just don't measure up.
Yes. Ibanez is very similar in that way I think.
Agree, amazingly diverse range of consumer goods.
I even had a Yamaha tennis racket in the early 90's,.nearly made it.
My first Yamaha was an SG200 in the late eighties. I bought a Revstar 502T when they came out and my regular gigging guitar is a Pacifica 311H. They're great guitars.
Those 311 Pacifica's are amazing bang for the buck! Sold mine to help finance a 611 but still think about getting a new one from now and then.
As always, articulate, thoughtful, and authentic sounding discussion here. The tone in that final clip is wonderful!
I not only play Yamahas (electric and acoustic), I collect them...awesome guitars
Sc600 here. Love it
Sx60 stripped & beautiful. Very single coil and my dream neck.
Lordy. I love love love someone with a brutal command of the English language explaining things esoteric and intangible. Chris, you have incredible talents beyond music. What gifts you have learned and earned in your life. Keep it coming. 😊
👏👏👏👏👏 I love the Revstar tones. Thank you, Chris!
I saw that video everyone's asking you about. Didn't know why is showed up until they referenced you. Ah, that's why. Thank you again these weekly bits of amazing guitar playing.
As always, love the straight up, down to earth videos and what a sound!!! ❤
I have had mine for about 3 months and look forward to playing it everyday. The neck and fretwork are perfectly made and shaped. One of the best investments I have made. I get sounds I have never heard while playing Gibsons and Fenders for 40 years.
I got a Standard Revstar P90 model 5 weeks ago. I absolutely love it. I can’t put it down. My other guitars are collecting dust.
Can you please let me know what's the difference between the P90 pickups vs the humbucking pickups of the Revstar?
you really speak with that Revstar!
This is……some compliment…….?
@@mjolnircarlssen4211Yep. Should have just started with I'm a fan of your playing 😂
Oh and the red label western guitars are in my opinion as good as many Martins and Gibsons but way more affordable.
Such freaking wonderful expressive guitar, gotta book and see you live soon!
I wish they would re-introduce the all-in-one tailpiece again like you have on your Revstar on the Japanese line. I'd buy one tomorrow.
Go Chris Buck ! Glad you found “your” guitar and your sound !
Yamaha musical instruments and Yamaha motor vehicles have been different companies since the 1950s.
Revstar is a copy of Reverend guitars
@@jamesjones-z4u Well isn't that fascinating. Thanks.
@@the.communist I guess you're talking about the "Sensei" model, and I see the similarities. But it's a far cry from acknowledging that to calling it a "copy".
Because of you, I’ve tried the Revstar and that will be my next guitar purchase at some point
Hello Mr. Buck. You used to have a subscriber, follower, and to be honest a friend named Danny Tribble. This is his son Evan Tribble. I am sorry and it is not easy to tell you, my Dad passed away June 23rd . He loved watching you play on your videos, you and me helped him get through his final years in ease and happiness and with beautiful music. My dad, Danny Tribble, taught me how to play guitar when i was twelve. You also as well as my dad gained a friend not just him but me as well. Thank you Chris for all the music and everything!!!!!
Sorry young man. We all lose our fathers eventually, but almost no one is ready. Hang in there and have good memories.
I play a Revstar because Chris Buck inspired me to buy a P90 and a Humbucker versions. Yamaha, where is the signature Chris Buck that I have been hanging out for? Come on make it happen..
There are two angles to this from the casual player to the gigging musician. A lot of players buy through influence and not necessity.
As always, your eloquence, insight & examples are a breath of fresh air in this phylum.
I still search for a Weddington custom. The wiring in that thing was WAY ahead of its time.
Oh gosh, GORGEOUS design, too! Sure, LP-esque, but that heel joint!
@@TavisAllen possibly my fave “single cut” design. I think of it as the love child of the Lester and a Tele.
💯 Chris, I worked for a Yamaha distributor and always found Yamaha products right up there with the best. Revstars are some of the best guitars that come through my workshop🎸
The Yamaha Sg-2000 from the '70s is my favourite guitar. It looks as if the Revstar will become another classic.
What about the Super Fligher? Ive heard it was better in some ways. Ive got one.
@@emelle1283 Me too! I have one of the 1980s ones (SF-600). It has through neck construction as well. It's wonderful.
@@johnstaf What do you think they are worth? Ive had mine fro sale here and no nibbles - so many fools only interested in overhyped Fenders and Gibsons
@@emelle1283 I don't think they're worth much at all. Nobody seems to be interested in them (yet). They're amazing guitars.
@@johnstaf The guitar market is honestly the dumbest i've ever seen (and i've traded many markets) - no other comes remotely close for clueless buyers HELLBENT on brand names over value for money - perhaps women's fashion markets are worse but i've not been involved in that.) So many guitar "players" (i put in inverted commas cos most of them are crap anyway) pay hand over fist for a mediocre quality guitar with Gibson or Fender stamped on the Head and then offer peanuts for a quality instrument with any other brand stamp on it. I've seen it for decdes now like this - they will never learn - the older crowd that is - Baby Boomers and Gen Xers - brainwashed on Gibson and Fender marketing in the 70s and 80s - hopefully the millenials reject all that BS and the 2 overhyped American brands crash and burn! I've gotten rid of ALL my American "big name" pieces of shit and now have a stable of 12 Japanese only guitars - Yamaha, Fujigen, Bacchus, Momose ... all SOOO much better.
As great a broadcaster as a musician,,loved this show !
That is a beautiful solo at the beginning. So much feeling. Wow! 🙏🏼
Because of your videos, the Revstar is on my radar. And I can’t say that I’ve ever been inspired to acquire a guitar based on that other guys playing.
Cheers.
I refuse to believe that Rhett Shull is a real name
Yeah, sounds like an anagram
Lovely guitars. You and Mancuso are the new frontiersmen. Fantastic playing. Go go go!
yep , getting paid to endorse though
I have a RevStar with P90’s. I love it. Mine is black but man I sure would love to a Goldtop like Chris’s.
⚓️ Thanks Chris 🌈
Chris' talent just blows me away. He makes it seem effortless. Beautiful tones just pour out when he plays. So humble. Inspiring :-)
I really like the Revstar, and I'm really surprised it isn't popular with the doom metal guys. It's right up most of their aesthetic alleys.
Yeah, very cool looks on the range. And it's a variety of looks for the range, to specific. Not just different colors.
And TST! I dig on my After School Satan lunchbox, haha!
Damn!! Tasty, melodic, and most of all FRESH sounding. This is the first time I heard you but it won’t be the last.
You speak as well as you play mate. Really enjoy your videos because of it. Diolch!
Much like networks, wired is better
@@lookmanostrings provided it is properly charged I notice no discernible difference, but I do notice the freedom of not being on a lead 👍
the intro jam was some of the most gorgeous beautiful tasteful soulful blues guitar playing I've heard, not a sour note, amazing technique, incredible texture and creative phrasing.
Yamaha have been making guitars since 1966, they're not new to making quality instruments! It's a question of taste.
That JAM solo you played is imo some of the most beautiful expressive playing I've ever heard. No joke.
Rhett is not a real player in my sight, he's a content creator.
Thanks for your insight, and your boldness to blaze your own trails despite the pricey guitars others think you should be playing.
And he's boring as hell
Do you guys really believe Chris would appreciate you bashing on Rhett's musicality? YT is a commercial platform and both are doing well in their specific niche by giving their audiences, what they expect. If you hate on Rhett, it's more likely you hate that he's not adressing to your financial possibilities. Yamahas are great, so are Novos. Both guys are way over average guitarists, playing pretty down to earth music in bands which musically have a lot in common. Don't hate.
@@phiziya Even Rhett doesn't give a fuck as much as you do lol .
