    OKC trade timeline
2008- with the 24th pick the OKC Thunder select Serge Ibaka
2016- Serge Ibaka is traded for Victor Oladipo and Damontis Sabonis
2017- Oladipo and Sabonis are traded to Indiana for Paul George
2019- PG is traded for Shai Gilgeous-Alaxander, Danilo Gallinari and five first round picks and two pick swaps that have so far become Tre Mann and Jalen Williams
2020- Gallinari is traded to Atlanta for a second round pick
So essentially the 24th pick became SGA, Jalen Williams, Tre Mann, three first round picks, two pick swaps and a second round pick. Not a bad price 😂

Kyle Lowry to Toronto for the 12th pick in the 2013 draft is an oft forgotten trade that had a butterfly effect on the league as a whole. Houston later traded that pick in the Harden deal, and OKC used it to draft Steven Adams. Nobody could've predicted 26 year old Lowry would emerge into the GOAT Raptor, nor could anyone have foreseen the growth of James Harden. That Lowry trade is so underrated and I see nothing but a win-win scenario for everyone involved in the chain of events that transpired during that wild offseason. That's the same offseason the Warriors got Iggy. It's also the year Milwaukee stole Giannis in the draft. In addition, it's the same offseason that Brooklyn made the Pierce and KG move. The more you really think about it, the 2013 offseason seems like one of the most eventful in NBA history, and at the time it was a bad draft and a weak free agency class. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.
Thank you to anyone who read my tangent lol.

The Monta Ellis-Andrew Bogut trade should also be mentioned. It allowed Steph Curry to be no 1 on the team and gave Klay the opportunity for more minutes. Bogut as a passing big really helped the development of Draymond, and without the trade these three probably wouldn’t have developed the way they did

  • @ivaneurope
    @ivaneurope 11 месяцев назад +89

I'd like to point out is that Jayson Tatum was not picked with the Brooklyn pick. That was the 1st overall pick (which turned out Markelle Fultz), which the Celtics traded to Philadelphia, who got the 3rd pick in a pick swap with the Sacramento Kings (who received the 5th overall pick - De'Araon Fox). Boston didn't own the 2017 Nets pick per sé, but Boston invoked the pick swap that came in as part of the KG+Pierce deal. Brooklyn got the 27th pick, which Brooklyn used to select Kyle Kuzma, who was traded to the Lakers along with Brook Lopez for Timofey Mozgov (basically a salary dump) and DLo. DLo was later used in the KD sign-and-trade, who was later converted into Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson and multiple 1st round picks.
Speaking of the KG+Pierce trade masterpiece from Billy King, this trade is the reason why Brooklyn has Ben Simmons as well. Jarrett Allen, who was used in the James Jarden trade from Houston, was acquired using pieces that can trace their origins in the KG+Pierce trade. And this trade is indirectly linked to other trades - including the Russell Westbrook trade to the Lakers (via Kyle Kuzma) and the return of DLo in purple and gold.
Speaking of Mikal Bridges - the pick he was selected was originally the Lakers' own, used in the trade for Steve Nash, later traded to Philadelphia who traded him on draft night after selecting him back to Phoenix and ended up in Brooklyn. Which means that the Nash experiment in LA is another indirectly linked to the KG+Pierce trade. Basically the KG+Pierce trade shaped up the future of many NBA franchises

1:43 I should mention this little bit that at the time, the Knicks were in a bidding war with the then-New Jersey Nets. The Knicks feared they wouldn't have the chance to get Melo had the Nets trade with the Nuggets and Pistons went through. Doubly so, as the Nets were soon to relocate.
So yes, while it's easy to look back and say they should've waited, I understand why the Knicks were hasty to pull the trigger.
At least with the draft picks, we can say Murray was the only true "hit" out of all of them. It sucks, but at least the Knicks are on the right track now.

i dont know if your from NY or not, but i am. This trade happened because the new cba was coming into affect that summer, in which contracts were going to be smaller if im not mistaken. Carmelo did not want that, and advised the knicks, that if they dont trade for him, he would go to the nets. Carmelo basically force NYK hand to make such a move, to please him. that is why i dont like carmelo, always has been, and will always be selfish.

    • @RealTomahawk7
      @RealTomahawk7 11 месяцев назад

@@christophertapia1613 I am. All I remember from that 2011 CBA was the lockout that preceded it. So, they might have been smaller, but I can't be certain of that.
It also didn't help that Melo was supposed to be the big free agent in 2011, after he refused to sign an extension in Denver. Somebody else mentioned in another video, that most of that Nuggets team were also heading into contract years, and Melo didn't want to be a part of a potential long rebuild.
Melo also wanted to come home, and with the Nets set to move to Brooklyn, which was also kind of a homecoming for him, it's rational to believe that he would've signed long term with the Nets.
Either way, both the Knicks and Melo lost out in this scenario.

The Jermaine O'Neal/Shawn Marion trade in Feb 2009, is what allowed 2010s to unfold the way that it did.
Marion Had an expiring contract that Bryan Colangelo wanted, and he gave up a first rounder to get it.
O'Neal had an extra year on his deal, which was more valuable when you think about the 2010 Free Agent Class.
Colangelo used the money to outbid the Blazers for Hedo Turkoglu that year.
Pat Riley, waited one year, returned the draft pick to the Raptors in a S&T for Bosh.
    Then they S&T for LeBron.
and the Big Three Era kicked off the 2010s.

Butler did not force a trade from the 76ers. The 76ers at the time did not have a GM, as Colangelo Junior was fired due to his Twitter fiasco. Brett Brown and Elton Brand. At the beginning of the playoffs that season, after having had Ben Simmons at PG all season, Brown made the decision to have Butler bring the ball up and be the primary handler. This upset Simmons greatly and at the end of the season he told Brown/Brand that either Butler does not get re-signed or Simmons wanted a trade. It's laughable now, but at the time Simmons was still considered a star player, and was much younger than Butler. While a bad decision in hindsight, Brown/Brand decided to not offer Butler a contract to placate Simmons. This has been confirmed by both numerous journalists as well as Butler himself, though he was told they chose re-signing Tobias Harris over him, it was really Simmons forcing the 6ers hand. They could have re-signed both.

Melo literally already said multiple times he planned on signing with the Knicks when his contract as up and they destroyed their bench and their future to bring him to their team a couple months sooner for absolutely no reason. I actually think it’s because of that trade, that teams will refuse to offer what the Bucks think they’ll get for Giannis now that he wants out. I would never forgive David Stern for what he did to my Lakers. That move was unprecedented and political. The trade package that the Lakers, hornets and rockets agreed to was much better than Chris Paul to the clippers.

You see how this Mordaforker broke down Kawhi's trade but not the others. He called Kawhi troublesome and lucky but never said the same of 2016, 2020 and so on.
What did Kawhi do to you man.

It blows my mind that theres still ppl who dont understand the CP3 to Lakers non-trade.
Its probably because most youtubers dont understand it so they spout shit.
This was not a situation of a trade being rejected in a way like never before. The proposal that was made that both teams would have to agree on BEFORE submitting it to the NBA, is what was rejected.
Stern and 29 owners who where subsidizing the continued existance of the NOP, voted on if the trade was acceptable and then if it passed the interim GM, i forget his name, would have submitted it to the NBA.
But only 2 owners (Cuban and.... portlands) voted in favor of it, the other 27 teams voted against it and Stern as rep. for the NOP also rejected it, not that it would have mattered.
Please people, for the of god, get thos shit right. Im so tired of people crying about it, all because thsy dont understand it.

God bless! Jesus Christ is King and saves and is the way! Psalms 62 - "Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken." Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

The 2010s basically messed up the league, and was the first step towards this new way players get to play where they want.
Sure, by trading players you manage to get assets in return, but how many times have these trades ended up being “win-win” scenarios for both teams? Not a lot.
