    Always puzzled me about our culture. We created something world changing while being dismissed, ignored, and insulted. But when the very same people and institutions that perpetrated all the hate realized that our creation had massive value and appeal. They quickly stepped in, removed us and remade it to their liking. Which is why today the term Hip Hop refers specifically to Rap music, or any commercialization of it's "urban" aesthetic. Which is also why most today consider early Hip Hop unlistenable and the cultures history a free for all. And when an actual curator of the culture speaks on this. They're quickly ushered into obscurity and labeled out of touch....Gatekeepers

      But isn't true Hip Hop culture just New York? Yeah, rap spread all over, but Hip Hop in the West is different than the Hip Hop in the East and the South. Hell, the Hip Hop of the West coast is different as you travel along it. Same as the Hip Hop culture all along the East coast. Rap as a genre of music is really the only connective tissue.

      @@jinxie712 West coast Hip Hop Culture.. Around the same time Hip Hop was created in the BX. On the west side in 1971 Toni Basil (Yes, Hey Mickey Toni Basil ) & Don "Campbellock" Campbell formed the Lockers. From the Lockers Sam “Boogaloo Sam” created the art of Pop locking(Popping). West Coast Bboys & Bgirls. The Dj: Around the same time Cool Herc was kicking it off. A group of younger Dj's were coming up on the west. This group will eventually formed Uncle Jamm’s Army. Selling out the 10,000 seat LA Sports Arena in the early 80's. The crew had some of the top Turntablist of the time, some of whom would go on to shape the sound of hip-hop. Members included Egyptian Lover; DJ Bobcat and DJ Pooh. Graffiti Writers: West Coast 70's gang culture introduced tagging specifically Old English style. Not as complex as the east writing culture. MCing: MC's came several years after NY with Dre in the Wrecking Crew, Toddy T, and Ice T to name a few. Long story short, NO....same culture just different styles.

    I repsect all the artists that decided to perfrom at that event. I kno wthe Geto Boys had a major issue because they only invited Sacrface (my favorite MC) by the way, while at the sametime leaving Willy Dee out of the mix, and they did not make time or mention of Bushwick Bill RIP. I would not consider what The Grammies honors as true Hip Hop, because you can see the difference in spriit and opinion, from KRS-One to, Joe Budden himself. We need to take it back and challenge these "labels" now that the time is more rype! UMG is dissolving their entire redoring music division, because reording music is not as exclusive as it once was.

    The problem is that you live in the hip hop bubble. There is music in life outside of this culture that most people who don't get to tour the world ignore. Hip hop with something at its Inception but lost everything when it's sold out. That was 1994. The fact that people are holding on to the genres just like the people in the 80s who are still holding on to disco. The time has passed dinosaurs. Stop acting like it's the hippest thing that ever happened. It had its time and that time is over.

    Why is it that we always ask other do to the shit, why are they not doing it what not this, when we are not doing our self's. How much do we really care about our culture when we don't do nothing and beg other to do it. we stand on biz for the streets but not where it matters. Joe has one of the biggest platform in hip hop what he do, nothing, Jay Z and Puffy Billionaire off of this what they do nothing. Not even the biggest names in it what to do the work, but CRY that the work is not done. Is this Man shit. is that standing on biz?

      NaS and Mass Appeal pit together a beautiful HH50TH Celebration at Yankee Stadium from mid-day to 2am, with over 20 performances, legendary MCs, Rappers, DJs, Breakdancers, Awards to Kool Herc and other legends for their contributions, etc. NaS and Mass Appeal played a big part in the creation and opening of Hip-Hop Museum in the South Bronx near Yankee Stadium during HH50TH Celebration. NaS and others started a Health Insurance for Hip-Hop legends in which they awarded Rakim and Scarface $500k each to start the health coverage for old school rappers with yearly selection of new members selected by a board. Why is no one on these podcasts giving NaS his flowers? The hate for NaS by the media is real.

    I'm confused 😕 Why would African Americans celebrate a genre of music that they are not considered the greatest because if you took a survey of whose the G.O.A.T of Hip Hop Marshall Mathers aka Eminem will get mostly the votes. African Americans created Rock & Roll but Elvis is considered the king 👑 of Rock & Roll, African Americans created Hip Hop but Eminem will be the king 👑 of Hip Hop in 20 years, so remind me again why are we celebrating Hip Hop ? I would like to know who created that symbol on your cap 🧢. I see others as well on BL app but they have circles on the points. Maybe someone owes you funds if it's your trademark. I would look into that. Or is it just a part of the movement. I agree with all that was said on here from your opinion views to the others opinions for they are the ones wronged by selfish corrupt. For if it's not their wey way then it will never be our day way. No celebrations for us. I have a maestro who creates music for all our future. And has already shared some in present time inside the lab. Even when he doesn't publish the creators of the app are somehow listening or already knowing what he's created. I really feel that is how we are all being used. Your good at detective look into this C.K. Holmes. Let It Be Known.

    Hip Hop is too volotile for a union per say, BUT; what was needed and is just too late now, but what NEEDED TO HAPPEN was there be some sort of ELEVATED BOARD that was voted in , and to get a vote I dunno you have to qpply to this association of recognized True Hip Hop Card carriers of the spirit of the Culture and the Protectors of its integrity & its status, mission but it can never become something though that is corruptible or that can become the death merchants of its own cutlure. How? I dont knoe? But A Union is too much but there needed to be a really SUPER ELEVATED BOARD OF TRUSTEES that ALL OF HIP HOP essentially understood it functioned under as a way to remain protrcted and elevated ? All im saying is HIP HOP has been dead aince 2010 maybe earlier, and around even 2005? The ELEMWNTS OF HIP HOP THAT MAKE HIP HOP CUTLURE ARE ALL GONE - Nothing is celebrated any longer. WHERE THE F@%$! DID THE DJ GO? HUH?!? THE GREATS have never been replaced or had a passing of the torch
    Also, having a board could have saved Tupac and Biggie by not allowing or coming between what was a obvious set up and a overt ly dosgusting exploitation of the subtle gang affiliated aspects and the east coast /west coast war that was manufactured for record sales - that took at the time, THE TWO GOATS ;
    What became a vonstant ritual sacrifice and blood sacrifice after by the rqppers, culture and labels, who all took part and still do to this day; and we needed a Ethics committe... which is tough cause HIP HOP is by Nature, counter culture and anti authoritative ; for a reason, but is in its escape and artform , traditionally the healing force of the expression of the soul that sought to rid its people of the poverty, pqin, death, and suffering; by bringing an awareness to the infection by basicqlly creating a multi Element Rqin dance theough song and rhyme , art and sound, dance and fashion, and then spirit and soul ; that at times needs to have the ability to scream and to say what needs to be said -
    SEE HIP HOP immeidately was shackled and caught up by its same masters and slave owners it originallynintended to buck , and the money was too much to say no too after a while and we allowed the Azkanazis who RUIN EVERY CULTURE , To literally destroy everyong withbabFaustiqn bargwin before hip hop even got on its feet
    FREEHIPHOP shpuld have been a chant and a drive from the 90s on, to FIGHT BACK. DED PREZ Tried, to tell yall ,
    no one listened, accept GENX portion of the 2000 movement of the Neo-Concious top , golden era 2.0 , lead by INDIE/ INDERGROUND & SMART , GENIUS, POLITICAL leaders of the artform that TRIED & again no one listened or cared. TOO MUCH RICHES WERE TO BE HAD -
    Yall allowed some of the most Disgusting plants to take over too, Busing& rapingvthe culture like Birdman, Diddy, DR. DRE etc. and nothing good came from anything in the long run,
    Hip Hop is DEAD - & even "Rap" as a culture? lol ALL YOU HAVE IS THE GENX HEADS from the Golden Era still pushing today, but the culture... its owned, 100% , the Spirirt van never be sold, which is why some of us fight on & endure, because WE ARE HIP HOP - not the labeks, the awards, the money or accolades & b.s. , THE PEOPLE are , we are the genetic DNA to a higher purpose served in TRUTH , while the duality if the loght, has always existed at the same time in parallel , we just never got the right thing put tigether as & fir a oversight/ethics/ moral/ spiritual / political committee that had yhe resoect & power to even snatch the chain off the dumb clowns and fools who dared to mixk and sellout at the expense and exploitation of the whole !
    Had that ever been started or introduced , even as a mysterious, hardly seen or spoken of ROUND TABLE so to speak of the GODFATHERS AND THE O.G.S mixed with the new generation, with a ROME like approach of a closed door, "secret society" that was literally only known because of the good they seek and the POWER THEY HOLD - To the point wven where fear was a part of it - because if you dont fear those who you owe all due respect to for even being invited to soeak to the table to be given a offical stamp of approval? Then There is no power or say, Hip Hop instead allowed itself to be partitioned and oarcelled and sold to the EVIL side of this like the Black Boulet, the Masons, The Jews who say they are Jews and ARE NOT, the Labels and execs, the "illuminati" , Aka whatever power and stakes are beholden to a higher allegiance that IS NEVER A GOOD IDEA WHEN THEY ARE THE SAME POEPLE WHO SLAUGHTERED THE INDIANS, WHO SLAUGHTERED THE CHINESE, WHO play this nation like a game of chess and can and will do anything in their self interest they deaire ?
    Thats your JAYZ now and when it goes REAL SOUTH ? Thats where you see Kanye. And when it all starts to fall apart? Its why you see a new resurgance and rennaisance of sorts now for the kate 90s/early 2000s nostalgia trippin and cats is so sick of this B.S. we are seeing and hearing the original KNIGHTS OF THE ROUNDTABLE still speaking , like Black Star (even though Mos needs to get the F@%$! away from Talib and his cognitive dissonance and insane communist /eociqlist programming) But Qtip, 9th wonder, Little Brother, Mos, Dangelo, DEL, Automator, Hiero, Andre 3000, Etc etc... theres a there, there, firgotten, thats a pricess of moutning for all - & its felt like lising a entire nation , without any promise, & no time travelling abilities means , we lived through a beautiful time, sithout equal, & have to learn to say goodbye ,
