I met Master P at the Magic Show in Los Vegas. Ran into his cousin and he asked us to come to the party he was throwing and we told him that they told us the tickets were sold out. He never told us he was P's cousin, but he said wait one minute and came back with P. P said I wanted to personally see who my cousin wanted to give tickets to, and he sat down with us and talked to us for a while. He was the nicest man. He was so willing to share his ideas with us and us with him. He made sure we were good before we left. Just ask him and he will probably come to your show. I want my physical media back, especially because of the listening quality. I have kept all of my cd's that I bought from the 90s-2010 I am so glad I kept them. It's not. It's oversaturated with many artists that all want to sound the same. There aren't really any meaningful songs coming out that are actually SAYING something. There aren't many songs that don't feel like they aren't done because "this person did this" or "that person sounds like that". Mainstream hip-hop is dead to me and the algorithms and streaming services have dirty hands in that aspect. I come from a family of musicians and my grandfather was a rock star back when blacks did rock n' roll. I did my run in producing and released two solo albums myself and even had a chance to tour Australia with the son of Eazy-E in 2017. For some reason, I saw this coming back then and hung it up, removed most of my stuff from the internet, and went back to school for my bachelors in 3D so I can go make $3k a week and settle down somewhere. Music will always be a part of me but those pre-algorithm/streaming days were where the money was. It's a real "rat race" if someone expects to settle down and raise a family if you expect them to be comfortable with nothing else to fall back on.

There has to be a better way of pulling music into a physical product or a model similar to music NFTs where it's a tangible collector's piece. Remember back in the day when you bought an album and then resold it used. Now you stream free of the music and it is just there. Corporations are beholden to shareholders, private companies are behold to their ownership structure - and while everyone desires to make a buck - you have to differentiate between those who understand that a mutual partnership is beneficial to everyone vs those who take a one side approach to making money at the expense of everyone else. There are many examples of businesses who understood that once but changed when the thought of growing shareholder value and EBITDA was more important than cultivating relationships with clients and customers. It's a painful lesson not learned when you are starting out but time and wisdom teaches all. Know your value and learn how to make the playing field as level as you possibly can. Yes, it will always skew towards the business but that doesn't mean you can't get an appropriate piece of the pie.

Question is if it's worth the struggle. I got a record deal that i turned down some years ago. Record companies don't do anything. They used to provide with studio, producer, promoter and on and on. Now they want you too do everything yourself. They step in when you have large numbers followers. So I decided to put my stuff on Spotify and such. Google my name after s week and someone stolen my music and loaded on torrent sites. Then came covid and killed playing live (with is how most musicians make their money). I gave up. It's not worth it anymore

It's harder and easier now to be an independent artist, easier because the internet gives you access to people who can discover you, but harder because way less people actually pay for music now, so instead of being an independent label selling a million CD's for 10 dollars a piece, you now basically have to rely on third parties to stream/broadcast your music and give you a cut of the revenue which isn't much usually. Even fairly big artists only manage to sell maybe 50-100k CD's and that's a lot in the modern era, if they had the same level of fame but it was 1990s instead of the 2010s-2020's then they would be making way more especially if they got a good deal or went independent
I grew up in Oakland with Too Short, E40, Drew Down, Ritchie Rich music. Concerts and touring is where they made money Mc Hammer too. Master P hit the Music game at the perfect time for him. I respect any Hustle. I miss Oakland, its just not the same now.

As an active ebay seller I cant stress how many cds, dvds, and vhs I sell daily. People are tired of streaming and microtransactions. People want to own their product and not have it stripped from them due to a subscription. I also have my own personal collection. I'm so thankful that if the internet went down for a week at least I would be able somewhat stay sane.

It's not. It's oversaturated with many artists that all want to sound the same. There aren't really any meaningful songs coming out that are actually SAYING something. There aren't many songs that don't feel like they aren't done because "this person did this" or "that person sounds like that". Mainstream hip-hop is dead to me and the algorithms and streaming services have dirty hands in that aspect. I come from a family of musicians and my grandfather was a rock star back when blacks did rock n' roll. I did my run in producing and released two solo albums myself and even had a chance to tour Australia with the son of Eazy-E in 2017. For some reason, I saw this coming back then and hung it up, removed most of my stuff from the internet, and went back to school for my bachelors in 3D so I can go make $3k a week and settle down somewhere. Music will always be a part of me but those pre-algorithm/streaming days were where the money was. It's a real "rat race" if someone expects to settle down and raise a family if you expect them to be comfortable with nothing else to fall back on.

lol bro you’re looking through a narrow lens. There is money but if you’re talking about the hip hop or pop industry where only a certain number of people fit then yes. Tons of good music out there. It’s all sorts of genres and ages and groups of people you just have to work harder now as an independent. It’s not easy but it’s doable. You can’t sit behind your computer or phone screen without being out there participating and trying all sorts and then say it’s over saturated. Even the medical or technological or engineering field is over saturated lol.

There has to be a better way of pulling music into a physical product or a model similar to music NFTs where it's a tangible collector's piece. Remember back in the day when you bought an album and then resold it used. Now you stream free of the music and it is just there. I don't know anyone who is sharing or selling the streams of music that they purchased. Why is the music available for free but it costs to create in the studio and promotion?

Corporations are beholden to shareholders, private companies are behold to their ownership structure - and while everyone desires to make a buck - you have to differentiate between those who understand that a mutual partnership is beneficial to everyone vs those who take a one side approach to making money at the expense of everyone else. There are many examples of businesses who understood that once but changed when the thought of growing shareholder value and EBITDA was more important than cultivating relationships with clients and customers. It's a painful lesson not learned when you are starting out but time and wisdom teaches all. Know your value and learn how to make the playing field as level as you possibly can. Yes, it will always skew towards the business but that doesn't mean you can't get an appropriate piece of the pie.

That sad part is all the genres of music we've been through, there is no more creativity. They used up all the samples in their music, from the 90s on til now, it's lost it's appeal as a whole, and now all we get is babble snippets, saying a bunch of nothing. Not mention it's obvious now that if you're in the mainstream, it's all puff and hype, and they are more than likely bet against themselves, and are locked in dead end contract. If ya gonna make money, make off of yourself, create your own wealth.

Question is if it's worth the struggle. I got a record deal that i turned down some years ago. Record companies don't do anything. They used to provide with studio, producer, promoter and on and on. Now they want you too do everything yourself. They step in when you have large numbers followers. So I decided to put my stuff on Spotify and such. Google my name after s week and someone stolen my music and loaded on torrent sites. Then came covid and killed playing live (with is how most musicians make their money). I gave up. It's not worth it anymore

It's harder and easier now to be an independent artist, easier because the internet gives you access to people who can discover you, but harder because way less people actually pay for music now, so instead of being an independent label selling a million CD's for 10 dollars a piece, you now basically have to rely on third parties to stream/broadcast your music and give you a cut of the revenue which isn't much usually.
Even fairly big artists only manage to sell maybe 50-100k CD's and that's a lot in the modern era, if they had the same level of fame but it was 1990s instead of the 2010s-2020's then they would be making way more especially if they got a good deal or went independent
I grew up in Oakland with Too Short, E40, Drew Down, Ritchie Rich music. Concerts and touring is where they made money Mc Hammer too. Master P hit the Music game at the perfect time for him. I respect any Hustle. I miss Oakland, its just not the same now.

The fact that I'm on a soundtrack with Master P is crazy. He is one of many that I worked with back in the day. I didn't know how to hustle. I wasn't selling *ex or robbing men. I didn't finish college but I just found out that my pictures are being sold on ebay. I will forever be independent. And I'm gonna figure it out 🙏

I love the fact that artist are now going directly to the consumer because it removes the record label BS… record labels will only give deals to people who fit a certain narrative… that’s why most rap music is about shoot n kill, drugs, disrespecting women… yet conscientious, rap, and rap that has a positive message won’t see the light of day! I love that artist are now having the freedom to make the type of music that they want to express without being forced to participate in the pipeline to the prisons.
In case some forgot, Master P also played a little basketball. He tried out for the Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors and played a few pre-season exhibition games.

As an active ebay seller I cant stress how many cds, dvds, and vhs I sell daily. People are tired of streaming and microtransactions. People want to own their product and not have it stripped from them due to a subscription. I also have my own personal collection. I'm so thankful that if the internet went down for a week at least I would be able somewhat stay sane.
