It is clear to me that this is the season to give Jimbo a crown, it has been obvious to me since episode two. I am fine with jimbo winning but I am bored.
I'm rooting for Jessica Wilde
Yup🙄
i think jimbo will make top 4/the final. but i’m not sure if she’ll win. if they do lip sync for the crown there’s no way she’ll win a lip sync against somebody else
I think it's a combination of the show feeling so overly produced and the fact that it's for Jimbo, the franchise's favorite Lipsync Victim. Her winning a lot, whether or not she deserves it, is hard as an audience as her being a default loss vs the Assassin just makes the episodes so anti-climactic and honestly boring.
And its so unfair when her competition were full of queens who have been overlooked so they don't get as much projects and experience which means less budget and support, compared to her who has been there 2 times already and was a fan-favorite so she has connections and money to pull our runways and classes
The best thing so far for all stars 8 is the pit stop with Bianca and Mistress
Oh my gosh yes they were such a fantastic and hilarious duo!!! But yeah this season just seems off for me…
The best thing so far for all stars 8 has been Bianca hosting the pit stop, period
Clock that tea!😆
It wasn’t that good tbh
Bianca comes off as forced humor sometimes, esp when she laughs. Imo
What was so fun about MIB there? Kylie was so much better!
Monica went home as shy and nervous as she was on her original season.
Nayshe went home without showing any of her strength as on her original season
Kasha went home without being recognized for her comedic value as on her original season.
Derienne went home without a being as likeable as we know she can be, like on her original season.
James is still shy
Lala still has questionable fashion
Kahanna already got her spotlight and they forgot about her
Alexis is still serving drama and attitude
Heidi is still being edged
Kandy is still Kandy
And only Jimbo and Jessica are really shining.
You forgot Alexis lmfaooo
EXACTLY
@@cesarcruz9333 Alexis still serving drama and attitude like on her original season
Oh, God, I did, lol. But I actually am enjoying her this season. I'll edit her in the comment.
Yeah the cast has no evolution mostly lol. They shouldve saved most of these girls for future seasons
Honestly, there's really just no surprises anymore. All the queens who have the most to prove are getting sent home one by one, while the queens who've already shown all they can do will inevitably be top 4. There's nothing exciting about that.
Great point. Sending home queens who STILL have more to prove in their AS system is stupid.
Unfortunately yes :( the queens who have a big fanbase r the ones staying (wouldve LOVED DARIENNE AND MRS KASHA TO STAY LONGER EVEN AT LEAST FOR SNATCH GAME)
Ha I'm watching season 7 thinking it's the current season... I'm a mess
I’d argue that it’s better this way. As queens who missed out on crowns get to prove themselves. If queens are getting eliminated in the first few episodes again, they clearly haven’t grown that much.
If a queen "has a lot to prove" then it's because they didn't do so good on their original season.. so you expect them to be top 3 or 4 in AS among others who actually did great since their season?? I don't get it.. most likely if they didn't excel before what makes you think they will win or be in the top?????
when heidi left the season it was over from me, she had so much fun on s12 but then now just seeing her being villainized kinda made me realize how bad it is this season…villianizing heidi is crazzzzyyyyy to me
I KNOW I almost stopped watching after she left I really think she could have made it far if they were appreciating her because she was doing sooo well she’s also one of the most loved queens on drag race she saw it for what it was and was also going through a lot at the time it broke my heart
The season is like if all stars 5 tried to be all stars 6
Take Cracker and Jujubee off the season and add Cynthia Lee Fontaine and Kalorie and you’ve got a AS8 cast bb 😂
Now that's a read ☠️☠️☠️
EXACTLY!
@@Jhawk2711 Oop!
The read of the century but it needed to be said
They need to remove the "Lip Sync for your Legacy"
- Bring back "Lip Sync for your Life"
- Judges select a Bottom 3 or 4
- Winner of the week chooses the Bottom 2
- Bottom 2 Lip Sync for their Lives
- Alliances will matter WAY more
- Queens get to show how desperate they want to be there
that's actually a great idea, I would love to see that. It's a better game design idea than what they have going on rn.
Uhh yes. Make it a bottom 3, and the winner of the week gets to pick the lip stick of the queen she wants to save from the lip sync
@@niqui_la i mean they used this ideia in s15 with anetra saving spice... so they know they can do it.
THIS!!
this would've fitted in this season so much, especially since they should've seen Jimbo winning frequently and know she won't blow the lipsync out of the water, we could still see her win while still get a great lipsync after
This season is Jimbo's Drag Race and it's giving how All Stars 5 felt, the feeling that it was made for someone to win it.
Never seen a queen being so mistreated as Deriane and Kasha been. The did well all the episodes and got ignored or randonly in the bottom
AGEISM
I'm so relieved I'm not the only one to have a weird feeling towards this season!
I feel like it could be great, cause the cast is good and really entertaining, and the lip sync and challenges have been good/okay so far.
But so many stuff like the judging, the fact they edited out the deliberation between the queens before the lip sync, or the lack of storyline, makes the season so strange.
It felt edited and kinda fake as soon as Jimbo won and Pangina was the assassin
Absolutely agree. I honestly wish they did the top 2 of the week like before because that felt more satisfying but also felt more was at stake.
@@Emily-fx9gt agreed, felt a bit to obvious rather than coincidence.
I think season 8 all stars also suffers from going so soon after season 15 of regular RPDR, cause the cast, and show of season 15 of regular RPDR was so good, and satisfying compared to all stars 8 which is honestly kinda meh! Rupaul and producers of RPDR better step their pussies up for season 16 or by season 20 it may be the end for RPDR!
@@brianmatthews1736 1000% agree, they really need to step it up.
I feel like production decided Darianne and Kasha weren’t contenders but I thought they were both hilarious and criminally underrated by them! Like I wish they got a chance to be appreciated in episode two because I thought they deserved it
Why wouldn’t they be contenders?
Cause they dont make for an interesting story maybe?
They don’t want to crown older camp queens that is not Jimbo. Plain and simple.
I really think they should have given Kasha more of a chance. She wasn't doing all that bad.
It just feels like a Jimbo coronation season. Her only competition is Jessica. I would say Heidi but I don’t think production cares about her. I love the queens but a lot of them are really not bringing it this season and the judging is wild.
This season shows how too much production and scripted "drama" can ruin a reality show
La la being high in the ball is ludicrous. Her look was a sack that she put on, debatably worse than her bag look because it was one potato sack instead of 4 gift bags glued together, imo. It just felt off
It wasn't a potato sack though, it was shelf liner material and that couldn't have been easy to turn into anything but it was not pretty, if anything she gets credit for the construction.
It wasn't good, but worse than the bag look is a big stretch lol
In what world is it "debatable" that it's better than her bag look 😅
her 2 other looks werent good either so i was super confused
What does worry me about this is the potential hate that is going to be thrown at Lala's door, especially by Heidi's fans (who I felt should have won it honestly and she wasn't even in the top).
I think the worst part about this season for me is the judging they are so obviously pushing ppl like Jimbo, and Kandy while ignoring Heidi completely. I feel like this last episode it was obvious to me Heidi’s group was in the top and I was so confused when they were called safe.
Right! And we were even shown Michelle cracking up watching Run Queen Run! Like if you’re gonna push the teen queen group at least edit it so it looks like they did better!
kandy's team was definetely the best tho, their commercial was the funniest
were heidi & lala funny? yeah, but kahanna really wasn't and since they were judging in teams it only makes sense to have the top group be the one where all 3 did good
I disagree. The judging HAS been weird but in this episode I think it was totally fair.
Kahanna’s performance cost them the top placement imo
Their trailer was less effective than the other group. Jimbo's group made an hommage to horror movies retro trailers. It was cohesive. Heidi's groupe was funnier but also messier. And the trio wasn't filled with the same energy. This episode, i must admit the judging seems fair to me.
The season is going exactly as i think was gonna be, is the jimbo show feat: lala ri and Kandy, and all the others queen are fillers for the production, they even made a Fame games with the eliminated queens because THEY KNEW that they were gonna rig the competition for the most sucessful queens of the cast being in the top 3, and heide knows that and she is right in quitting. (AND PLEASE WORLD OF WONDER MAKE THE "THE TOP 2 CHOSES THE BOTTOM 2 WHO WILL LIP SYNC FOR THEIR LIFE" FORMAT HAPPEN, MAKE IT HAPPEN).
Heidi has given 3 win worthy performances and is basically being ignored, damn right she quits lol
Ooh, or the queens vote based on the bottom two’s lip sync, so you have to impress your peers
Lala ri is the definition of a filler queen this season she hasn't done anything amazing
They did fame games because it was common complain from participants and fans that queens spend thousands of dollars on costumes and they couldn't showcase them in show after elimination. And in my opinion it was one of best changes in this format in ages.
Part of the problem with the assassin twist is the actual lip syncs. They’ve been so bad this season. Aja vs Kahanna was great. Jimbo vs Pangina was poor - Jimbo just can’t lip sync, and Pangina does better with higher tempo than the mid tempo song she was given. Whilst Jessica’s Coconuts lip sync was funny, the boob thing has been done before and who knows what was happening in Jimbo vs Shannel. The judges have been doing better lip syncs this season. It’s unfortunate that one of the gags relate to lip syncs and they’ve just not been that good, especially after S15.
I have to agree. Whenever they put Jimbo in the top, you can assume the lip-sync will not be great. Shanell? Really? Assassin where!. We know that Pangina is a great dancer, but the choice of the song was terrible. Alexis is just annoying, like there are other pple in the room, chill. "I am just really happy that the judges see me"! And the last episode throwing the fellow contestant under the bus, is not really nice. Hope it will get better.
p.s. The breastplate that Jessica had in the coconut lipsync is it the same as the all stars 6 of Yara?
On top of that, the editing of the lipsyncs is horrendous half the time were looking at the judges or the queens that arent lipsyncing, the other half the shots of them are horrible, and the lipsyncs are barely a minute and a half so we cant even get into them. In panginas LS the camera was on jimbo for 90% of the time when they know the audience only cares about panginas performance. I guess im spoiled from international seasons where they actually care about the lipsyncs. Canada has probably the best lipsync editing and we get pretty much the entire song
Yeah that’s actually a critique I’ll put on Jimbo AND production. Because there’s only one performer selected, and Jimbo is super talented, it forces us to watch Jimbo underperform, which makes the cast look week.
@@mareks.4841 say what you want about Alexis, she is the only one bringing actual storylines this season
@@mareks.4841 The thing is Shannel is that on Season 1 she did one of the first lipsync gags of the show, eliminating Akashia who was the lipsync assassin of the season, so maybe we could consider that she is a assassin. But what I really think it's happening it that they are reintroducing her to public so she can come back to an All-Stars season, just like it happened with Jessica on AS6
Was trying to explain this to my husband the other day and figure out why exactly it's so lackluster. I think it's a combination of the queens they chose and over saturation of the show in general. I actually completely forgot there was a new episode Friday and he had to remind me. That is a problem.
No fr I had to see spoilers a day later to know the episode came out. Heidi threatening to leave and most likely will be leaving on the snatch game. Her Twitter is full of hints that she’s leaving and it’s honestly really annoying
Same…Only I’ve known it was coming out and am not compelled to shut things down to watch the new episode. Now I love some of these queens but I am struggling to be excited or watch more after what I’ve seen. It’s not just predictable, it’s not right. I understand that it’s produced, I understand that it’s planned, but this, here is bad fanfic time.
It certainly doesn't help that Drag Race Espana is also airing right now, and is just much more entertaining. I like the AS8 queens, but this season is so....underwhelming.
@@seanchancellor6861 I wouldn’t be surprised if this is how Heidi is soft launching her contention in the Fame Games. If you can sniff out the ones production are pushing and it isn’t you, twiddling your thumbs until the day you’re eliminated is wasting time. It seems that the Fame Games themselves are also making this season even more predictable than past seasons
I just feel like this all stars has just lost its magic
I really enjoyed the idea of seeing queens get a second chance who didn't do so well the first time but atm it's not working at all for me
This season just feels so "fine" and after two great all stars season in the last 2 years, this season is so underwhelming
I think Drag Race has created its own new way of doing drag, and back them it was revolutionary. Nowadays, it's becoming a limitation. The judges can't see greatness coming from other realms of drag.
I feel like this season had potential to be good but I think it suffers from the lsa format. At this point Darienne should have been able to lipsync for her life alongside Monica. Mrs. Kasha Davis also was robbed in the sense that she would have done well in a lipsync for your legacy.
I just know Darienne would've lipsynced her way to the top
@@ringa_ringa_ling depends on the song. Bad Reputation and She-Bop? It would be Darienne's to lose. Coconuts? Not so much. Remember what Bianca said about season 6, that the songs were older and you know Darienne ate every time she performed.
For me there’s just no reason to be excited every week yet. None of them have KILLED the challenges yet. Kahana was good, Jimbo was good and Jessica was good but I’m not looking back on any of these performances and gagging.
Then it really is very much like S13/AS5 where we are just waiting WEEKS for them to crown the queen we know they’re gonna crown. Like Ru clearly adores Jimbo and Jimbos doing good and is a fan favorite, wrap up the season lol.
The only thing that still gets me watching is “Kahana SLAYING the runway”, Lala just kinda wearing anything weekly and the lip sync assassins. But the thing with the LSAs is that outside of Lala, Heidi and Kahana who from the cast is gonna KILL a Lipsync? Not Jimbo 💀. And half of the LSAs have been used just to be a springboard onto Global All Stars or AS9 which is fine since most of them are good lipsyncers but it’s giving heavily produced lol.
Idk. I think Jimbo killed episode 2 and 4. 😅
@@stylerxo3654 it’s kinda like Jinkx in snatch game last year. We knew she was funny and good at it but the Judy garland is top 3 of all time. We know Jimbo is funny but her wins were still funny but I wasn’t BLOWN AWAY by how funny she was lol
"outside of Lala, Heidi and Kahana who from the cast is gonna KILL a Lipsync?" the kandy erasure here is criminal..
@@hojokarens kandy ho sure but muse isnt that sickening of a performer lol
@@hojokarens correct. She’s a solid lipsyncer. But she’s never giving us “Phone” “Freak Um Dress” “Boss Bitch” etc.
I think at this point an All Stars seasons needs to be all early-mid outs or all frontrunners, having a mix just dilutes things too much. They should also stop casting queens they just want to get rid of.
Agreed with this a lot.
I think it could be cool with queens who were out because of fashion designs, because when they place in the bottom in acting or improv, they still have a hard time in all stars with those challenges
same. The combination of AS8 cast is just ... not the best.
All Stars 8 felt more like All Stars 5, where you could tell from the cast that there was already a top four or a winner.
Justice for Monica! I was so pissed when she got eliminated first when I tell you I was the most excited for her😭
SAME😭😭
The problem is Jimbo. She’s fantastic, but she has no real storyline except that Ru loves her, and the spotlight on Jimbo, who has no relationships with the other queens, is sucking the air out of the room
I mean.. she doesn’t really have competition unless maybe Jessica. With all her experience they could have almost put Jimbo on AS7.
@@kev7600 they should’ve just waited to cast her again until Global All Stars and let her be Canadas rep lol
Who cares about a storyline it's the best that wins it's not their story
@@Berighteousone wow what a username
I disagree with this, we establish on episode 1 that jimbo has relationships with atleast Kandy and Heidi from tour, that’s why they’re in an alliance. I think there’s queens with less going on like Jaymes, Alexis, and Kahanna who don’t seem to have much substance with anyone there.
Heidi getting a villain story line is wild to me
After AS6 and AS7, AS8 is feeling like AS5.
8:15 or when they want a specific queen to win the challenge (Jujubee, Ginger) but she wasn't in the best group, so they just give the best group a shoutout and then turn around and give the win to somebody else 😠 it's just so frustratingly obvious
Uhhhh. AS5 was obviously a season curated for Shea.
@@stylerxo3654 they are obviously talking about the win of the hotel design challenge (and pink table talk on as6), not the season win
@@stylerxo3654 fixed it
I'm not as excited each week as I was with s15 and as7, it's so predictable
Gurl S15 and AS7 were so predictable, even more so than this.
Like if AS7 and S15 weren't predictable... OMG.
Jaymes, Naysha, Kahanna, and to an extent Lala and Kasha, are getting the "they don't deserve to be here" type of attention from both the audience and competition. There has not been hype for any of the early out queens, but also this is the first time we get to see them.
This season should've for real been branded early outs vs fan faves, so there would be more dichotomy and rooting for the underdogs mood in the fandom. That would be the central theme then, not redemption, but establishing yourself for the early outs and prooving yourself for the fan faves. They had a balanced cast with 6 early outs and 6 queens that made it far, and something makes me believe that it was the initial intention behind the season. Or maybe call it All stars 8 the Rudemption Games, and in episode one highlight it by dividing the queens into an early out group and fan fave group, with a simple line up type of activity, where Ru asks everyone to stand in the order they were eliminated in.
Challenges and runways for this type of season would include:
Shakesqueer the unauthorized rumake
Redemption runway
Cheerleading Acting challenge
Makeover challenge with the losers of the challenge (Janet the Planet too)
wow babe become a producer bc you on to sumn
early outs vs fan faves? what kinda premise is that lmao
Jimbo is honestly too good for this season. It’s why it felt weird for Icesis to compete on CVTW. It has to feel like everyone is on the same level and if you’re going to cast queens that need redemptions or literal first outs you can’t throw someone like jimbo in… on AS6 you could argue that Eureka and Ginger were “above” some of the other competitors in terms of drag race experience but it wasn’t as jarring.
Yeah. I very much agree with this. Jimbo and Jessica are just steamrolling the rest of them. They can't even breathe. Kandy, she takes time to sit and simmer, but she will be a threat by the finale - just like how she was on S13.
On AS6 the queens that were eliminated early in their season still performed WAY stronger in all stars than most of the queens are in AS8.
Agreed, Jimbo is next level to compare with all the AS8
"Too good" may not be the case, some of these girls are very talented. "Liked more by ru and the general fandom" is more realistic
@@gingerdog8203 wrongggg, and even taking your point into consideration have u thought maybe ru likes her so much for a reason? she has seen uncountable drag queens and i think i trust her judgement more than a random person in the youtube comment section
After AS7, with the no elimination premise, I can't watch another All Stars by the older rules. It's senseless to bring back Monica, Neysha or Kasha Davis and give them few seconds at Untucked to get our sympathy, before discharging them. I wanna follow all the queens from start to finish, with their ups and downs and the drama within. That's what I'd call rudemption.
(And Jimbo is not the problem here. She's the JuJuBee or Ginger Minj of the season - maybe even Shangela. The recurring queen we love and hate).
The difference is that at least they left Jujubee, Ginger and Shangela rest for a few seasons, we had Jimbo a LOT lately and it's kinda exhausting because we already knew what she could bring to the table.
agreed, the problem is not Jimbo, it's the casting of barely anyone that can compete with Jimbo.
@treehann I feel like I just had an epiphany. This is so true😂
Yeeeees! I lost all interest this season when MKD was dumped. I’ve waited YEARS for this, let the gals shine 😭
AS7 made me realise how much more I preferred non-elimination formats. I loved House of Chocolate; I didn't need to feel bad every time my faves got eliminated. 💀
I think part of the problem too is that almost every months theres a new season. Theres no downtime to regroup, recharge, reminisce. Like i feel like I didnt get to enjoy anyones reign since like Symone won. The pandemic is over so theres no need to keep throwing out all these seasons and franchises. Its hard to appreciate drag race anymore in general. Idk whats missing here but this season isnt working for me so much even though i love the cast.
Can I be fully honest?
I just think the cast isn’t that strong. There were a lot of early boots with potential, but I feel like we’re seeing why they were early boots.
Right every Ru girl is a star and love that for them. But like… was Kasha ever getting in the HOF? WAs Monica ever getting in the HOF? Naysha? Exactly 😂
And it doesn’t help that it’s so too heavy but in the worst way. There’s a few queens that did good on their season in one tier and then there’s final 4, two wins in 3 episodes Jimbo 😂. Like bffr.
@@Jhawk2711 snatch game is next its gonna probably be 3/5 soon
Bingo. I was trying to put my finger on what I didn't like, and none of the queens is really sickening. Some of them I have personalities I like (which aren't even being showcased, ugh), so we're just getting a lot of meh.
I totally agree, I saw the cast and was disappointed. I would love the concept of an early outs only all stars but then it should’ve been framed as such with no elimination until the top 4. Instead it was just a stunt to easily push production favorites like kandy to the top.
I know I'm in a sinking ship but I'm rooting for Jaymes. I have a very soft spot for her because of her knowledge and love for old Hollywood, pop culture, and drag history.
I do too! I know I’m delusional but I just love her so much! I love the puppet portion of her art as well, but I doubt we’d see that (minus the Ruveal runway bc my goodness). She’s just overall fun to watch.
I just think it's such a disservice to queens to bring them back on all stars but then eliminate them in the first 4 episodes. I would love to see a points system that resulted in an elimination show-down midway through the season to handle eliminations. The Fame games... I mean it's great that they get to highlight these expensive looks, but we don't get to connect with them on any deeper level. All stars 7 was so lovely because we got to get to know each and every queen over the course of the competition. There was only one (two) winner(s), but every queen had a chance to shine.
I think another thing (for me at least) is the way seasons feel back to back. There’s no real build up anymore to All Stars
The top and bottom placements are REALLY questionable this season
The Fame Game to me is a double edged sword. I do agree that it's great to allow an official avenue to showcase what the queens brought to allow the time, effort, and money to not be totally wasted (Whatcha Packin is great but it only shows 3 looks when there are often so many more)...but at the same time, I can also see how it might just end up leveling up the runway pressure even further- now with $50,000 on the line, that might make some queens even more willing to take a bigger financial risk that may not end up paying off.
(edit to add- also, let's not ignore the elephant in the room. A fan vote for anything is just going to end up as a popularity contest. We've seen this with the earlier season Miss C votes, and how the Season 10 Miss C vote led to the show taking fan vote privileges away from us. I'm anticipating it's gonna be more of the same for this as well)
Honestly, my only minor gripe is that it feels like they are pushing Jimbo too much. You aren't going to tell me that they didn't really want to give Jimbo a lip sync win, and the last one couldn’t have been any more favourable for her, and it still didn’t work. Jimbo is doing great. The producers don't need to force wins for her.
how are they pushing Jimbo?
@@gabnel1000 well for starters, she shouldn't have won the RPDR Live challenge
@@clenshin97 why?

@@clenshin97she did deserve to win that challenge specially after that runway look
There definitely needs to be drag queens as guest judges like in Dragula bc honestly the critiques being given in pit stop are way better than what’s being given in the show
We're at a point where people can see production shenanigans so going in an easily calculated route is a bad idea
I don't agree with the assassin format though, what I see as a problem are the song choices. By this time, the production should be choosing the song and the queen as a matching set and for this season only Aja had a song that was best suited for her
Production giving the assassin a song that doesn’t suit them is like hiring James Bond and arming him with a banana 😅
Such a shame - that first episode solidified it for me.. the choice by the producers to do that song for the season premiere is so disrespectful to these queens who are preparing to show what they can do in a talent show. Yet each challenge is more and more far removed from the queens and drag as a whole. It’s giving ‘we ran out of ideas’
I feel the same about the challenges. Everything feels the same and kinda boring tbh. It's like there is just one way to be a drag and they don't try to make different challenges. Also the favouritism is so obvious
there is still a talent show that will take place later in the season, with all queens returning as part of the Fame Games. (not a spoiler, the episode description is posted online)
@@thatmarslol7602 oh god I can see it now 🥺 All the queens doing a talent show to see which queen comes back to the final four? 😬 When they pull this shit on regular seasons, I don’t mind as much but for All Stars? Why produce a season where the challenges are so terrible, they totally eclipse a dozen talented and hard working queens who wanna show what they’re best at?
I 100% agree with you, Darienne was amazing on ep. 1, and I wanted to see MonicaBH so so so sooo much. This season is definitely weird to me too...
I haven’t been as excited for AS8 as I have for recent seasons in the past. The queen I was most excited to see by far was Heidi, but she hasn’t been appreciated by the judges that much and she doesn’t seem to be in a good headspace.
I like the LSA twist, but I wish there was more of an incentive for them to go hard, like getting the money if they win.
Im more excited to watch the pit stop than all stars ☠️ Maybe I was just too hyped
For me it's the cast. They are all great queens but it's so obvious they licked blood with how good the redemptions on AS6 were. So they cast so many queens that needed one, without paying attention to making the dynamics and storylines work.
The premiere had no talent show and I think that was a bad call. Also, the wins are so random. For me it was Kahanna-Kasha-Heidi-(Heidi/Lala).
Jimbo is getting those wins thrown at her, I don't understand why they are pushing her so much. She will make the finale either way and could absolute snatch some wins organically
Tbh this season is really just giving All Stars 5 the Remix
Darienne was definetly the one I was rooting for the most when the season started airing, I was so frustrated when she got constantly fucked over by the judges.
My primary issue is there is no star power. I liked the idea of bringing back early elimination queens to give them another chance and to see some growth but there are too many of them and I am a bit bored. No one is really standing out, even the ones that are supposed to be strong contenders for the crown (Jimbo, Kandy, Heidi, LaLa, and Alexis) all seem to have no chemistry. It feels cheap. Especially coming off Queen of all Queen's where everything was FIRE! It just doesn't feel new and exciting.
You expressed everything that I could've said in this video - this season just feels off, and I was so excited for it too. In fact, I was delighted to see Lala, Monica, Jaymes, Heidi (and to an extent, Kandy) back on our screens, but the judging and overproduction has been aggravating for me.
My main gripes are Heidi's team not being in the top instead of Kandy's team, and the favoritism towards Jimbo. Heidi and Lala assumed different personalities from themselves and managed to be funny, and Kahanna improved from the RDR skit. Meanwhile, Kandy and Jessica were praised for "being themselves" but haven't some queens been critiqued for "You were just being (insert queen) in the role."
Then there's Jimbo. I dither between liking her (mainly her runways) and being over the favoritism (which is not her fault), but I can't get behind a potential winner that has a track record of flopping her lipsyncs, I just can't. She also doesn't need wins thrown at her - she's good enough to win them on her own.
Jimbo is suffering from the Gigi Goode effect where a queen gets too much wins and high praises in the get go that the fandom turns on them
The LSA twist worked in AS6 because the win distribution was spread out nicely among the queens, it was yara then rajah then trinity then jan then ginger. The level of variety is great. We all know Jimbo is a toptier comedy queen and its not helping that the next episode is Snatch Game which we just know Jimbo has a high likelihood to snatch the win again. That makes it 3 comedy challenges in the first 5eps. In AS6 we got a great talent show, a ball, advert, an amazing rusical then table talk, again a great variety of challenges to have a variety of different winners.
We can agree Jimbo does not possess the ability to slay a lipsync which is not her fault. She also is not at fault for being so damn good at drag and at drag race. But I feel production couldve reworked the order of the challenges around her (job of production every season to highlight the cast) or give way for other queens to win other than giving it to Jimbo.
To me it just feels like we don’t get enough of the queens, it feels like they reduced the screentime of them just interacting with one another in the Werq Room. As of yet, not a single queen in the competition has a storyline forming for the season, perhaps the whole thing with Heidi spilling some tea storyline is going somewhere or these alliance storylines will go somewhere but so far, we’re just seeing the girls describing what is going on in confessionals, we’re not actually seeing these events take place.
I also hate that they removed the deliberations, it’s just an extension of that same problem I have. In the deliberations of seasons past we’d get to know what the queens were thinking and how they felt about one another and the competition overall. By cutting that and moving it to Untucked, the pacing of the main show feels off and it feels like each episode is just ticking off events in sequence rather than telling the organic story of why the respective queen ends up getting the boot each time.
Out of all the comments on this video, you’re the one I agree with most. You have put my feelings into words so well
I think the problem is the casting
Early tea suggested that a LOT of queens (Tatianna and Coco, for example) turned down the season and they went into their third string of invites
Additionally the season was allegedly supposed to be all early outs at first. I think the problem is that you have Jimbo, Kandy, and Heidi on the same cast as Monica, Naysha, and Jaymes. What would these queens be able to do against big players of Drag Race?
I think it’s evident that they either have to go full early outs or actually abide by the “all stars” theme
No hate to AS8 queens but they could've casted more runner-ups/top 4 or maxi challenge winners from seasons before S11 (Asia, Peppermint, Adore, Max or even Thorgy or Shannel again)
I think Jimbo's top placements were undeserving but her win in the SNL skit and the trailer were deserving (Lala did great but had a mediocre runway). Heidi should've won the ball. Kahanna should've been on the top. Darienne did not deserve bottom placement in the last episode. Jaymes should've been in the bottom week 1.
I don’t like this season either. It’s the cast. The only Queen that I truly love is Heidi, and she seems upset a lot lately. Lala is hilarious, but her skills aren’t top tier yet. I just plain don’t like Kandy. I had hopes that this season would change my opinion of her (like season 6 did for Ra’jah) but it absolutely has not. Jimbo is great but this is her 3rd run in like 5 years. Plus, the lip sync songs are “meh” at best. While I will keep watching, I’m not thrilled at this season.
I plain don't like Kandy either but they seem determined to give her as much spotlight as possible even though I've barely even noticed anything she's done this season.
This exactly. We are getting a Jimbo over-representation that's just overwhelming, the lipsync songs just aren't good enough for the show, i lost all excitement for the season even tho it was one of the AS i was the most excited for
why are y'all kandy haters like she's rly funny and entertaining what am i missing
@@normalizenatalie I know right. Fat shamers and racists. It’s like silky all over again.
I think the problem is that the hand of the producers is so incredibly visible this season. It's like they got lazy and don't care to hide their shenanigans or they know that we will keep coming back
I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way but I love you taking a more critical opinion and firm stance on the show and not trying to sugar coat it with niceties 😊
I don't think he's ever "sugarcoated" anything lmao. He just doesn't immediately think of things negatively.
The judging is the main issue for me too. I don’t think Kahanna should have been in the bottom during week 2 and for the ball she should have won or been in the top.
I disagree. She absolutely deserved to be in the bottom for that second challenge. Naysha was clearly the worst but kahanna was worse than everybody else. And as for the ball, Jessica cleared.
Btw so sorry this season is turning out this way. I love the cast, just overproduction😢.
Team Kandy and Heidi 🔥🔥
I feel like having early outs worked for AS6 because they chose strong ones i just think this time we are seeing it go in the opposite direction where they really are not delivering
I'm really glad Dariennes Billie Eilish look is so extremely well received by the fans, I was baffled when they trashed her for it
Well this is sort of the “early outs” season that the fans have been asking for for years…be careful what you ask for fandom!
I'd rather have all runners up
the premise is good but the production is mishandling it because they're too scared to actually take a chance with the early outs. they aren't even focusing on any of the early outs and they're clearly pushing Jimbo with the edit even though she has nothing going on
The cast isn’t the problem, the production is!
@@yep991 Jessica has a better story, of being a misunderstood queen because of language barrier that has since improved vastly at both her language skills and her Drag game. Team Jessica~
@@mxmox nope it’s the cast. These people were early outs for a reason.
it’s like you reached into my little brain and said everything I’ve been thinking these past few weeks
Once I learned that this season was literally all the girls who hadn't dropped out of "All Stars: Fan Favorites" and "All Stars: Early Outs" and then Naysha Lopez (not a read she was added last), it made so much sense why the season wasn't good. They didn't plan for the crew to gel together and they really didn't. They played the weird Frankenstein game the producers put forth and this is what we got...
They have been to nice to kahonna & Jaymes
I’ve been feeling the same. The season is coming off very calculated with the placements and judging. Also, while all the queens are doing good in the challenges, there’s been no real stand out performance that makes everyone sit up and scream in joy at their TVs. I guess Jimbo’s had the closest to a stand out performance, but she’s been on two recent seasons so the surprise aspect isn’t there. I hope it gets better because I was initially excited about this cast.
The blatant favouritism for Jimbo and subtle favouritism for Lala and Kandy has ruined the season for me completely. It's so f*cking obvious that these queens are going to be in the top 3. While the queens who have actually redeemed themselves (Kahana: extremely shocked that she's been performing phenomenally in every challenge) or the queens who are doing superbly well yet ignored (Heidi: Justice for my robbed diva 😭) are being given dust for their performance. So done with this season. At this point I want Jessica Wild to win asap.
Jimbo is performing well though, sorry you’re just a hater.
@@rdr6686 @R DR Lol. Anyone who's pointing their opinions is a hater according to y'all. Jimbo was my 2nd fave in both Canada Season 1 and UK vs The World. She doing great but for sure she didn't deserve two wins in first four episodes. She's being favoured (which is sad because she can go far without favouritism). Put your rose coloured glasses for her away for a second and watch the season closely.
I’m glad people are agreeing. I’m already over the Jimbo show
AMEN, JIMBO relies on oversized, ugly assed titty shtick way too much, and if not for her runways she is not all that great IMO. And no offense to her but Jimbo can not lip sync!!!!
Jimbo is amazing u just not a fan of her, if u dislike her please just support ur queen by buying their product or tips
I think the biggest mistake is production saw people love jimbo an d went "cool if we push her and make her win alot people will be soooo happy" but production forgets everytime.... people will tend to hate when they can see a queen is being forced. A lot of the reason people loved jimbo was she was robbed of some challenge wins. Then on UK vs. she was Manila'd so of course people were upset and cried robbed. I think Jimbo is very funny and very smart. I just think her being pushed will leave a sour taste in peoples mouths. I really think if more than one queen could win a challenge again people would be less upset though
Idk. Shea Coulee and Cracker were forced down our throats in AS5, and people didn't hate that season all that much while it was running. Heck, people loved when Shea was shoehorned into the finale of AS7 when she didn't deserve to be there.
@@stylerxo3654 I thought people hated Shea and Miz Cracker😮
THANK YOU JUSTICE FOR THE BILLY OUTFIT!! i also loved it i don’t know where all the hate comes from.
The only thing I didn’t like about the outfit was that the shirt was way too big on her, but it was still very good.
This season is just like AS5, VERY predictable top 3.
time and place
my birthday dinner
I think part of it is that we didnt get our talent show so we dont get to see them do their best in what they want. I like the talent shows in all stars but not the OG
Honey, never be afraid to speak your truth. The reason I watch you is because your rants are raw, unedited and genuine.
Ive been rooting for Lala because 1. She is unapologetically herself, funny and sharp , with dance talent and unexpectedly hilarious 2. Obvs the lip sync against Joey Gay. It's my fave
I agree that this season feels forced and tired somehow. What does anyone think on how they could change the formula??
Love ur work sweet, get well soon ❤
You are the rare creator who can critique without seeming negative. Really appreciate your thoughtful analysis of all things RPDR. Your ❤ for the show and the queens always comes through. Keep up the great work!
drag detective is also good w not bashing queens but still critiquing the program
I'm having trouble getting into it. i think because theres not much storyline or chemistry between the queens .The judging also seems ridiculous. Heidi has been consistently good and yet she is getting no acknowledgment.
I think producers really needed to step it up after AS7 bc it was so phenomenal and really hit all the notes and they just reverted back to an already seen format ... Like you mentioned the redemption theme. I think it's a big opportunity miss and feel for the queens this season bc it may ultimately be a forgettable one and they all deserve better than that
Thought I would add that it feels odd to not have a talent show at the beginning. I would have loved for specifically this cast to do their own talents. I know some people said they don't like the talent shows anymore or they are bored of them, but I still think they're a very valid way for people to show off themselves or their abilities.
Also I can't even get started on how the fandom has reacted to this season like... there are some rotten "fans" out there.
Only thing impressed me is Kahanna’s rudemption
i think bob explained it best on sibling rivalry, we just saw as7, the best drag race allstars (truthfully the best season race of all time season) and s15, another great season, so as8 just seems dull in comparison. :/
I feel like the spoilers are ruining the season. It's impossible to watch without people telling you who are the top 3 girls. The moment the episode comes out, the winner, lipsync assassin and eliminated girl are all over the timeline on the socials
every season is like that, you just need to stay off social media until you watch the episode :P
@@treehann some people use social media for things other than drag race. Why can't the people posting the stuff either wait or add spoiler warnings, instead of telling others they have to stop their daily routines for someone else. Plus the episodes come out at different times in different places.
@@gingerdog8203 I mean in an ideal world everyone would do that. I was just surprised to see the complaint about this particular season when it happens literally every time. It's just something to be avoided at this point, I don't like it either.
Interesting...i thankfully haven't seen a single spoiler for the season so far
This season is just so painfully predictable. Like you know exactly who is going home next and you had an idea who top 4 was episode one.
yeah i see why people do not like it. for me, i love it mainly because i love every one of the queens and they’re the reason i’m watching. I do not really care who wins, i just love watching the queens. Maybe i’d feel different if I wasn’t rooting for the obvious front runner, but for me the season feels different and i like it.
Thank you or talking about this so clearly, most fans didn't even realize this kind of judging was happening, i've seen people saying over and over again that Kandy was on the bottom for the Supermaket ball episode when she was on the top.
IT'S SO INCONSISTENT, and it doesn't help that they don't clearly state who's on top or the bottom!
Heidi is getting SO ROBBED. I can't deal with it, especially after those strawberry pants!
The thing with the 1st winner being in the bttm Week 2 is that this time it actually is fair so i dont see how we can complain this towards that particular season and not AS4, or AS6
My issue is that the cast is mostly flops/early outs (which can be GREAT to have a redemption season, look at AS6!!) but Jimbo is so out of place. Jimbo almost belongs on an all winners season given how successful and skilled he is - and it is showing given that it feels like an unfair competition at this point
I agree. jimbo is clearly in a league of his own compared to this group. His only competition is Jessica and Heidi in my opinion.
I actually look forward to the episodes each week but I think that's because it's my weekly ritual of get high, order pizza and watch drag race. So the episode are kinda enjoyable while in that state. I have a couple laughs, I am hyped/excited by some of the runways, I have a pretty decent time. Then I wake up the next day and I am like "wtf was that judging" and it legit took me until this week to realize they aren't showing the deliberation between the queens, I feel like a lot of good storylines are formed/fleshed out during that. So I guess the TLDR is: AS8 is a decent season if you're stoned and you turn your brain off.
It wasn’t clear in the beginning what an all-star consisted of, but it was fun to guess as a fan… now an all-star means “answered the call from World of Wonder.”
is just confused as to why Jimbo is being handed these wins when they (literally) can' t lip-sync to save their life
because she did good in the challenges she won and had the best or one of the best runways in the episodes she won, she's not being handed wins, she won them
I agree with you here. I kinda feel like Jimbo was shoe-horned into this cast and is just being pushed towards the crown. It feels like a foregone conclusion. As a Jimbo enjoyer in general, I just don't see story wise how she fits into this cast at all.
Because she's doing the best in the challenge. 🙄
@@Zencaste If the other queen were doing better than her in the challenges and the runway, they'd be winning but most of them are not and even when they do, their runway end up being meh
Oh yeah not sure who noticed but in the preview for episode 2 you can see jimbo waiting to see who is the lip sync assassin
This is the thing, I think. I love Jimbo, and I don't think she's doing badly, but it's so obvious that this season was designed to give her the best possible showing - and combined with how we've seen her on two other seasons incredibly recently, the desire to see her back is arguably minimal compared to other folks on this cast who were completely overlooked like Kasha.
It just doesn't hit the same. It's a season trying so hard to give us the dynamic of AS6 without any of the tension.
EDIT: Also, sorry, but Jimbo winning so often and having to go against a lipsync assassin just destroys all of the drama that we want from a lipsync, because you can't even forcibly edit her into winning one, really. Although based on how this is her only real storyline right now, I imagine they'll find a way to force us to believe she beat someone. Even if they have to bring Pearl or Charlie Hides back as the LSA to lower the bar. And even then, I think Charlie and her fractured rib would still stand a chance.
I mean she can't lip sync so we cannot enjoy the songs she has no story. Idk honestly
I feel you analysis was spot on. Also, I love when the RPDR RUclips community references itself.
the only satisfaction i'm getting so far from this season is that they are giving the chance for lala's personality to shine after season 13 where she was put in the back to favor some other big personalities and bigger storylines. Her confessionals are everything, she is hilarious in the acting challenges. For the rest of the "queens who have something to prove" you are absolutely right, they are too many with the same goal and i am left heartbroken and unsatisfied each week because it feels like they just dont get the chance to prove themselves. Monica and Naysha being the first out was fair for how they did in the competition but it was so absurd to call them back and not show anything of themselves and their drag besides their desperation to stay (and it was in the untuck ://). I hope jaymes will get her moment but looking at the trajectory they are putting out for her i am not so hopeful.
issue is it feels like they brought early outs as padding to chop away at slowly while they flesh out the 2-3 they want rather than making the early outs stars too
So many people think this season was going to be bad before they even watched the first episode. When you come into a season comparing it to others and already having a negative feeling about it then of course you're going to think it's bad. This season is great and so sad fan favs have gone home so soon but please enjoy the episodes. I see a lot of people already stopping cause they feel like Jimbo is being favored.. like WHERE? just because she has 2 wins doesn't mean she's being favored, she also has not had as much screen time as other contestants. "its been obvious since episode 2" just because they give a queen you don't like a win doesn't mean she's going to win the crown. If you guys actually think jimbo would win a lip sync for the crown you're insane. Enjoy the fact we have drag race cause if people keep saying its a bad season and stop watching then the network will cancel it and no more American drag race.
So... This whole video is you bitter because your favorite Darienne was eliminated? lol Monica for exemple, was eliminated because she did the worse in the first episode, not because they didn't want to "give her a storyline", step out of it
i actually really agree! this cast is so excellent and it is not being used for its potential it is being used against it. it's really frustrating to see early season outs become early season outs again. there is no satisfaction in that, epsecially when the eliminations seem so calculated. the least you can do in this scenario is not have the lipsync assasin twist and let them lsfyl. all the early outs are amazing performers i would love to see kill a lipsync and go out on a bang, but instead we get to see jimbo fumbe around onstage for the umptheen time. i am not entretained, and if the competition is not gonna be fair it can't also commit the sin of being boring.
All stars 8 feels very overproduced but the cast is very good
