  • A colorful, fun, and inexpensive Russian diver, the cult classic Vostok Amphibia, in this case modded with a cool aftermarket orange bezel by the good folks at ModVostok (who I am not affiliated with--this is not a promotion--I bought this with my own money!)
    Here's where I bought mine:

Hey there, from a fellow Vostok lover, there is a way of sort of quick setting the date. After the date clicks over, start moving the hands back (instead of forward) and around 8 or so you will see the date wheel tilt a bit and going back a bit more releases the pressure on the date wheel. From that point you can move forward to 12 and advance the date again. Rinse and repeat. Some people call this the 8 to 12 method or so. Hope this helps :)

Yup I saw TGV recently do the same trick on and older Navitimer. I'm glad it works on the Vostoks too. A real time saver, if you will :)

Thanks! Yes I figured that out after I made the video. I also upgraded the strap to a similar black/orange Nato from Barton that is much softer and more secure.

@@americanlegendswatches Well Vostok is imho the only company that is competing with Seiko for the title of most horrid default straps :). So yes, pretty much always swap the standard Vostok straps/bracelets.

I received my first Vosok a few days ago. Usually I wear Swiss mechanical watches. As a Swiss, well, you`re almost obligated to wear a domestic brand.
But let me tell you, no watch, excited me as much like the Vostok. That thing is just pure awesomeness. You almost can`t compare to anything else. It has a ton of character and is built like God knows what. Also, in my opinion, it`s brilliantly engineered.
I jumped on the Vostok-Train and don`t regret it.
By the way, I got the K39 Komandirskie 45mm.

The colour of your strap is very Russian, probably more than the watch itself, I just wanted to mention that. It actually looks similar to the Georgian ribbon, which has become a popular symbol of the Victory Day during the last 15 years or so. I don't have a scuba dude (scooby doo?) model yet, even though it would cost me around 55 bucks to get one here in Russia, but I do like Amphibias! We call this model "a dude with a bubble".

I believe the bezel on Vostoks tightens when the watches get underwater with some pressure on them.

I have an Amphibia too .. looks a little different to mine .. nice little watch though. My Vostok came with a bar of Russian Chocolate :P Though that might be that the person who packed it dropped part off their lunch in with my watch?!? Who knows. The instruction manual is hilarious to read. It’s very Russian! Nice bezel .. might think about modding my own.

Fun review for a really fun watch! Was that a pet alligator huffing away in the background?
I live in Moscow. The first watch I bought here was a "pre-modded" Komandirskie, with a unidirectional bezel, wearable bracelet and a display caseback, all for $130 from a very good shop (three branches here and one in St.Petersburg). Got a couple of nice basic Amphibias from them for around $55 each- no date, fortunately 😀! Us Vostoholics buy them for pleasure rather than accuracy, though I believe they are not hard to regulate.
Thanks very much. Stay well, everyone!

LOL! That's the sound of the mechanical autofocus on the macro lens. In retrospect it does sound a bit like an alligator though :)

It's aftermarket, since this is a modded version of the watch. The link to where I bought it is already listed in the description of the video. You just need to click on the 'show more' button there to see the rest of the description. But here it is again for quick reference:

Distracting... I meant. The video is otherwise good. The watch looks great.

So sorry about that! That noise was the autofocus on the lens. I've since got a better lens and separate microphone to alleviate the problem. At least the watch looks good!

Medal of the St.George Cross the ribbon of which on this watch was founded in 1807 This is the Russian medal of glory in the battle and now it makes a political sense

What the heck is the distractiung noise in the background all through the video? Annoying,

  • @macfl3594

What's that noise in the background. To me it seems like you are very hungry hahaha. And pls man put the watch on your wrist like it should:above the bone, not above making that crown
go straight on your fist.I'm just curious how can you wear a watch like you do and working something.I maybe understand if the watch is on a braclet, but on this strap and above the bone
it's an ugly wrist shot.Sory but most of watch lovers will tell you that.

Sorry about the noise! That's the autofocus on the macro lens. I'll be upgrading to a better macro lens hopefully soon!
