I have a new Amphibia now, the 720 888, I really like that design. I changed the bezel for the 720 steel with the lume triangle. I also replaced the bracelet for a lighter Milanese mesh type. The weight is now 94 g. I'm now really happy with this combination. The old one from 1985, similar to 420 831 still doing great.

That dress watch is just heartwarming. Something about it. Now the scuba dude one, I think it's not the 710 case, and the bezel is their sort of aftermarket ones hence that's why it came in at $73, but would be much cheaper than that if you got it on the regular steel bezel. I like that it has no date (because the Amphibia has no QS date, which is a headache for me). For me, the deal breaker is the alloy case. That contrast between bright gold and black really makes the dial’s features eye-catching. Don’t forget the unique crown at 2 o’clock. If you put the watch close to your ear, you cam hear a faint ticking sound that’s quite mesmerising. My dad caught me sitting on the sofa with my Vostok to my ear and was like, “wth are you doing”.

Thank you! Vostok - is the best! Respect from Russia! Many interesting technical solutions are used in this watch (if you are interested, see my review in Russian). Sometimes the quality is not the best. But it mostly refers to the build quality. For example, before using in water, it is sometimes necessary to check that the back cover is fully screwed on. Lol, "wobbly crown" is part of the design that protects the crown. The lucite/acrylic crystal uses some very interesting engineering principles to achieve a dynamic seal, read up on it, its an engineer's solution from first principles, not something a watch maker would have thought up. The scratches are also super easy to fix because of this. The bezel insert on your amphibia scuba dude is actually ceramic not acrylic.

I really like the look of the dress Vostock. So thin & a simple & classic dial. Let us know how they hold up during your test phase, especially the dress one, please.

I have maybe 4 or 5 Vostoks, modern and vintage, and I love them all. They're great affordable options. That dress watch you unboxed looks amazing, now I have to have one...

Just bought my first Vostok Amphibia with a blue/green gradient dial. It will be here tomorrow and I'm actually pretty excited. I can already sense this will a hobby brand collection starter. Just love theyre more unique looking than most diving watches.

The dress watch is a nice find...i did a screenshot of it, and we all know what that means😆😆. I got a couple of those (420 scuba and zissou and a couple of komandirskies) and they are really something special. A piece of history on your hands and unbeatable for the money.

Whatever the stated water resistance is, the komandirskie is absolutely fine for swimming as long as the case back and crown are screwed properly. It may have only 1/3rd of the water resistance of the amphibia, but considering that one is fine beyond 600m in pressure tests, it really isn't an issue

I just had a look at the Vostok Buyalov "Airship Italia". This is what you get:
    - beautiful handwound calibre 43 mm
    - bg9 superluminova
    - coated sapphire
    - bronze case
    - transparent case back
    - very legible dial with small second
    - great looking leather strap with bronze buckle
    Price $ 240
    I really like that one

My first mechanical watches were Vostok’s. I got the same dress watch but with blue dial and white hands. I got a silver dial amphibia but its one of the ones with komanderski on the dial. I switched out the bracelet for a mesh and its so much more comfortable. Also took a fine file and just knocked down all the sharp edges. Feels much better to the touch now.

I have an original Amphibia from 1970s, and it still works fine. I always thought that modern Vostoks are crap compared to the original soviet ones. Glad to hear they are actually not.
Just ordered one, and they said that there is a 2-week long queue for this model. Looks like RUclips reviews are doing their job, sales are good, and the factory will live on :)

I have 5 now and have modded everyone to what I enjoy. When I am tired I will mod them again. The only complaint I have is the date change but dateless movements or dials is the way to go for me. I really do like these for all their quirkiness.

Nice and honest review. I had never thought of getting the Vostok 58 because of the manual winding, but after seeing this, I have added it to my wish list. I watched another review where someone trashed the Vostok Amphibia for bad build quality, with the wobbly crown being the main reason, so it would have been great if you had pointed it our that it was one of the smart design, which it is, in stet of saying "it is supposed to be a part of the design" which doesn't sound very credible.
thanks again for a good review :)

I think you would prefer the 420059 instead of the 170059. The 420 is a round case with 18mm lugs. Or the 710 cushion case which is similar to the 170 but it has smoother corners.

I have had 5 Vostocks... Amazing!!
Actually I highly recommend the Retro 505 or 405 ; for about $ 115 you will have a great looking watch with a lot of inside. The best? its accuracy is within 3 seconds / day. I have not had that with a German Made or Swiss Made having a ETA 2824-2 at the range of $500 to $700.
At the level of Komandirki and Amphybia , at a lower price (close to $70), they give you: 200 M water resistance, solid made watches and a sense of art hard to find in all other competitors with a 4-5 times higher price.. with accuracy within 15 sec / day..
I am sorry to say that my relation with Meranon @ Christopol started on the wrong foot, but definitively, their product is something to consider before going into any other microbrand manufacturer.
I also think they should push to keep on producing , manufacturing has been on hold for so long for so many models... not knowing the reasons but hopefully they can go back.. the product will fly out of the warehouse.

My friend I saw in the minute 9:39 how lose are your bezel. My suggestion is that make it more tight. The easy way for me is buy some wire spring for Vostok. I bough 10 for 7 dollars on Ebay. All these spring is coming with the maximums length and we need to cut it according with our necessities. To cut these I use a toenail clipper, but you can use what you have.. Then I remove the sprinklers of the cut with a find sandpaper . Remember to cut only small portion and you test and test.

Haha... I got my first Vostok in 2016, a Komandirskie with a submarine on it, 🙂 my second one was a Scuba Dude same dial as yours but the 710059 case. Then 2 Amphibia SE models, both of those were about 150.00, and finally I got a 70's Era vintage Raketa small seconds dress piece... Needless to say I love them all!! Have a good weekend Komrade..! 🙂👍

Thanks for the informative unboxing. The big plus of acrylic is it is very shatter resistant compared to any type of glass/sapphire lens. I have 2 Amphibias and use Polywatch to quickly buff out any scuffs on the lens.
