I really like the look of the dress Vostock. So thin & a simple & classic dial. Let us know how they hold up during your test phase, especially the dress one, please.
Like you I waited years before buying my first Vostok Amphibia quite recently .Now I own 7 and on a mission to get every Amphibia case shape [5 ish to go] .They are the crack of the watch World lol.Love the 2 o'clock crown on the dreass watch and had my eye one one for a while .Thinness is great too ,
Hi Dave, at 10:12 you mention the bidirectional winding on the Amphibia; I have a vintage watch from my great-grandfather that does the same thing. I've been told that winding the crown counterclockwise actually unwinds the watch, so that might be what you were hearing there. It's actually recommended for older vintage watches to take some pressure off the mainspring.
The Komandirskie is from the new line with titan oxicarbonitride case coating. Unfortunately they only use this coating for the cheaper line at the moment.
Nice and honest review. I had never thought of getting the Vostok 58 because of the manual winding, but after seeing this, I have added it to my wish list. I watched another review where someone trashed the Vostok Amphibia for bad build quality, with the wobbly crown being the main reason, so it would have been great if you had pointed it our that it was one of the smart design, which it is, in stet of saying "it is supposed to be a part of the design" which doesn't sound very credible. thanks again for a good review :)
I have maybe 4 or 5 Vostoks, modern and vintage, and I love them all. They're great affordable options. That dress watch you unboxed looks amazing, now I have to have one...
Thank you! Vostok - is the best! Respect from Russia! Many interesting technical solutions are used in this watch (if you are interested, see my review in Russian). Sometimes the quality is not the best. But it mostly refers to the build quality. For example, before using in water, it is sometimes necessary to check that the back cover is fully screwed on. At this price, there is no other fully manufactured watch with its glorious history and original designs!
I think you would prefer the 420059 instead of the 170059. The 420 is a round case with 18mm lugs. Or the 710 cushion case which is similar to the 170 but it has smoother corners.
Welcome to the club Dave, Ive got around 5 Vostoks in the watchbox..no brainer, fun and great vintage vibe. PS with the winding of the movement with that loose crown, the method to use is simple "Do not let go of the crown when winding, just ratchet back and forth back and forth"..see how that goes 👍 Great stuff bro👍
Welcome to the cult my dude. They’re such fun watches, and especially the engineering behind them is classic Soviet “we did it cheap but it won’t die”. The 090 series is my favorite, I’m a sucker for cushion cases.
Nice video, interesting watches... I'm after a full red one anfibia and it seems they very hard to get in the UK... How did you say you can buy directly from them? Im interested. P.s. love that loud movement sound... southing..
nice video Dave...I hope you like them as much as I do...I bought 2, then 3 more...changing bezels, straps and crowns is the bulk of my modding...with the older chrome plated brass models, you can soak the bezel in muriatic acid (try a swimming pool supply store) and it will hold the paint markings but remove the chrome...interesting look...your Amphibia does not appear to have the old plated bezel
I never check those vostok dresswatches. I got two amphibia. They look perfect to me. probably will order one as they are so cheap. Don't know yet between cream and white. There is a gilt black one also wich look great, breguet hand and roman numeral ones are not my style but still interesting. Thank you sir for this discovery!
My friend I saw in the minute 9:39 how lose are your bezel. My suggestion is that make it more tight. The easy way for me is buy some wire spring for Vostok. I bough 10 for 7 dollars on Ebay. All these spring is coming with the maximums length and we need to cut it according with our necessities. To cut these I use a toenail clipper, but you can use what you have.. Then I remove the sprinklers of the cut with a find sandpaper . Remember to cut only small portion and you test and test.
used to own a Komandirskie "before Vostok was cool" but scaled down the watch collection & parted ways with it ... with all the new love Vostok is getting lately, decided to order a Scuba Dude model - and one of your shirts to go with it! на здоровье
Haha... I got my first Vostok in 2016, a Komandirskie with a submarine on it, 🙂 my second one was a Scuba Dude same dial as yours but the 710059 case. Then 2 Amphibia SE models, both of those were about 150.00, and finally I got a 70's Era vintage Raketa small seconds dress piece... Needless to say I love them all!! Have a good weekend Komrade..! 🙂👍
Whatever the stated water resistance is, the komandirskie is absolutely fine for swimming as long as the case back and crown are screwed properly. It may have only 1/3rd of the water resistance of the amphibia, but considering that one is fine beyond 600m in pressure tests, it really isn't an issue
Superb daily beater watch is the amphibia very tough easily regulated also if using as daily wear no need to worry about setting the date I love mine had it yrs its like a best friend.
I have 5 now and have modded everyone to what I enjoy. When I am tired I will mod them again. The only complaint I have is the date change but dateless movements or dials is the way to go for me. I really do like these for all their quirkiness.
I ordered the dress watch from the site you have given reached me around 20 days. The watch is very nice and loved it but it looks better on an medium size wrist than my wrist which is pretty large.
I have an original Amphibia from 1970s, and it still works fine. I always thought that modern Vostoks are crap compared to the original soviet ones. Glad to hear they are actually not. Just ordered one, and they said that there is a 2-week long queue for this model. Looks like RUclips reviews are doing their job, sales are good, and the factory will live on :)

Interesting! Never heard that before.
The acrylic crystals on Vostoks are awesome 👍
I was fighting the urge to buy the dress watch, and the you said it was loud, now I definitely will buy it
Great watches the amfibias are my favourite and if you can I recommend getting a no date version
Yeah the komandierky you have is brass that was titanium plated
The Komandirskie is from the new line with titan oxicarbonitride case coating. Unfortunately they only use this coating for the cheaper line at the moment.
This is actually probably the best honest review I've seen. I don't think anyone else has mentioned the unfinished sharp edges.
Ok, the fillet of the group is definitely the dress watch. Thanks for this, I might get one!
That Vostok Classic... Wow.
Alldiving watches fromVostok have 3mm acrylic lens ,others 2mm , the case backs have the same treatment in thickness difference if diving or not
Just got mine totally loved the watch ❤
I owned a few and they've all been a lot of fun to wear. The dress watch looks quite nice. May have to try one. Thanks Dave.
I think you would prefer the 420059 instead of the 170059. The 420 is a round case with 18mm lugs. Or the 710 cushion case which is similar to the 170 but it has smoother corners.
In my 5 watch collection, I love my Vostok sniper dial. My first automatic, and probably only. Rest are solar.
Such a fun unboxing Video!! Really digging that small seconds watch. Thanks for sharing Dave!!
Thanks Aaron! I really like the dress watch too!
Love my Amphibia. But the bezel on yours is cooler. And I have to get one of those dress watches. Very cool!
Welcome to the club Dave, Ive got around 5 Vostoks in the watchbox..no brainer, fun and great vintage vibe. PS with the winding of the movement with that loose crown, the method to use is simple "Do not let go of the crown when winding, just ratchet back and forth back and forth"..see how that goes 👍
Great stuff bro👍
Welcome to the cult my dude. They’re such fun watches, and especially the engineering behind them is classic Soviet “we did it cheap but it won’t die”. The 090 series is my favorite, I’m a sucker for cushion cases.
😂😂😂
I'm from Russia)) and I like the way you described the strategy for developing our Soviet watches🤣👍🏼
“we did it cheap but it won’t die”😂👍🏼
Nice video, interesting watches... I'm after a full red one anfibia and it seems they very hard to get in the UK... How did you say you can buy directly from them? Im interested. P.s. love that loud movement sound... southing..
When became idoneus for you, apply a little bit of grease,. I like dielectric grease for this. And your are finish! You have the most amazing bezel .
nice video Dave...I hope you like them as much as I do...I bought 2, then 3 more...changing bezels, straps and crowns is the bulk of my modding...with the older chrome plated brass models, you can soak the bezel in muriatic acid (try a swimming pool supply store) and it will hold the paint markings but remove the chrome...interesting look...your Amphibia does not appear to have the old plated bezel
I bought a Sea Gull hand-wound dress watch, 38mm x 8,5 for not much more. I do have two Vostoks also. Fun watches.
The small seconds one looks nice.
The 581 series flies under the radar, or it did till this vid! Lol. I can’t say mine makes much noise though. Good review
Finally someone shows that vostok classic watch in hand
Whatever the stated water resistance is, the komandirskie is absolutely fine for swimming as long as the case back and crown are screwed properly. It may have only 1/3rd of the water resistance of the amphibia, but considering that one is fine beyond 600m in pressure tests, it really isn't an issue
With Vostok, no-date > date. Always.
People love the scuba dude but I personally just had to get *the* RED ONE.
I have a date at six
I have 3 Vostoc's myself. The Amphibia's are the best they have. Very nice looking and functional watches.
I like Amphibia's design and most of all the logo. I love it!
The dress watch looks pretty awesome
I’m getting one of those dress watches, love the fact that its manual wind but was running when you picked it up out of the box 😂
That is because the machinist inside woke up ;)
Great video. I am glad you like them Dave. I unfortunately have had far too many problems with Vostok and have abandoned them completely. Keep Rocking those Watches my friend 🤘🏻
