I was just thinking about that riff and it dawned on me that I think I've heard a similar riff or effect in the music of Chuck Berry. And now I'm wondering if I can figure out what Chuck Berry song we would be talking about.
I just went and did a quick listen to the openings of "Johnny B. I absolutely love this song. What I find astounding is that between May-1968 and August-1969 (15 months) the Beatles recorded The White Album, Hey Jude/Revolution single(what a single!), Let It Be, and Abbey Road. This period in itself would be an amazing career.
I was 3 when the white album came out. I can't remember but my big brother tells me my favourite song at that time was 'Everybody's got something to hide except me and my monkey '.
I’ve been listening to the Beatles for like 3 years now, and I haven’t listened to every single one of their songs, so I’m still discovering more of their songs. Today I found this one, and I can not stop listening to it. This song is incredible.
Trust me, I don't think they ever had a bad song on any of their albums. And if you notice how as they made new albums the music changed into another level higher than the previous one. And they did it in such a short time. It's like they had all these lyrics and melodies hidden in their minds and they were just waiting to be let free to sing them. And their songs are so emotional that everyone can relate to them. That's what made them so liked, because it was like they were singing about us. Their songs started out as pretty simple rock and roll songs, and then morphed into something from outer space. Enjoy your journey through the many songs of the Beatles. You'll never get bored.
To be fair, it was likely considered a "double A side" single by EMI and the Beatles. But still, good point. So many examples in their singles. Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields, Paperback Writer and Rain. So much great material that even their B sides were A sides in a lot of cases.
In my opinion, I feel Hey Jude hasn't aged well. If it comes on the radio, I'll flip over to something else. But when Revolution comes on I never flip it. It's as powerful now as when I first heard it and I'm old enough, barely, to remember when this was released...it was quite popular...it even reached a lad of 6!
Indeed. For those born since, they have no idea at how much music changed as a result of these four kids. If you left earth in 1960 and returned in 1970, you wouldn't recognize what happened to music. And everything which came after them, including the other greatest bands (Who, Zeppelin, Stones, etc.) would not have existed if not for the groundwork laid by The Beatles. Most musicians of that time, and for many decades afterward (like myself) will tell you they never would have picked up an instrument in the first place if not for The Beatles.
For the record, Ringo’s drumming looks simple and effortless, but keeping the timing like that, with both hands hitting the beat at the same time (including some of the drum fills) it’s really hard. Just an amazing drummer!

Yeah. I was twelve years old when this song (on a double-A-side single with "Hey Jude") was released. The Beatles changed their style so frequently and so drastically from 1964 through1970 that every record that was released almost sounded like a new band. Amazing.
My mom was very anti-beatles... But her sister had a couple of their 45s. But I listened to them when I was in junior high and high school. It's good to hear some radical music... 😎
I was born in 1960 and had six older siblings. Mom played classical music on the piano, dad listened to folk music and top 40 radio, most of my older siblings listened to music, some played. I was around music from the day I was born. I started really paying attention to what I was hearing in the summer or fall of 63, around the time I turned three. I was becoming a pretty big music fan already (some people refuse to believe I could have been loving music that early, some say it's impossible, which I find funny). The Beatles were on Ed Sullivan in Feb 64 and one of my brothers bought Meet The Beatles right around then. I was a huge fan right off the bat. I have vague memories of seeing them on Sullivan, but I know I watched them. They just looked so different with that long hair and those suits and boots, and their guitars looked so cool. And they had those British accents. I was too young to understand the newness of their music, of the impact they immediately had on the music scene, but I was a huge fan from then on. As the years went by my siblings bought most of their albums as they came out - Something New, Beatles 65, The Early Beatles, Rubber Soul... They started showing the movies on TV, the cartoon came out. My two sisters and I would play a 'game', we'd say 'let's play Beatles', and we'd pretend we were them, each taking a role. I have so many great memories of listening to their music as I grew up. Back then I didn't understand the progression they were making, but no matter what direction they went in I loved their songs. I started playing guitar when I was 14 and started learning their songs, which I play and sing to this day. I write this 'essay' occasionally when I watch one of their videos here on RUclips, and I can't help myself from saying all this again and again. I can honestly say my life would not have been the same without The Beatles. There's The Beatles and then everybody else.
You can argue on if they were a rock or pop band all the live long day. In my opinion the Beatles themselves are their own genre. They did everything from pop to metal, to rock, blues, to ballads and show tunes, even children's sing alongs! They helped inspire and create some of the other best bands in the world. They absolutely owned the 60s. They changed the world and music as we know it for the better and I'll always be so grateful. How all four these immensely talented men got together to form this band is something supernatural.
They were pop, according to their era. Pop is not a fixed definition, only what's popular, and being pop doesn't prevent you from being another genre. Sometime in the future, its possible that Death Metal will become the preferred genre of the masses, and then that will be considered as pop.
Krab Borg djenting wasn't a thing in the sixties love. Helter Skelter however does have a very metal-like sound, it was one of the heaviest songs of the 60s in fact and is referenced as a precursor to metal and one of the songs that helped inspire the genre. I want you (she's so heavy) also has certain doom metal undertones in it. You have to keep in mind the historical context. It was the 60s and technically metal wasn't a thing then, but through the Beatles' experimentation they helped create the genre. That's all I mean by it :)
Holy smokes! John's guitar sounds like it's shredding the fabric of space time. Tony Iommi may be the father or architect of heavy metal, but The Beatles did everything first it seems.

Keep listening and digging into Beatles body of work. You will NEVER BE DISAPPOINTED!
Enjoy the mind blowing journey.😊
Trust me, I don't think they ever had a bad song on any of their albums. And if you notice how as they made new albums the music changed into another level higher than the previous one. And they did it in such a short time. It's like they had all these lyrics and melodies hidden in their minds and they were just waiting to be let free to sing them. And their songs are so emotional that everyone can relate to them. That's what made them so liked, because it was like they were singing about us. Their songs started out as pretty simple rock and roll songs, and then morphed into something from outer space. Enjoy your journey through the many songs of the Beatles. You'll never get bored.
Yea, they were very creative, a huge range stylistically, keep digging, there's more
That's awesome!!
Most bands would die to be this good. The Beatles released it on the B side.
Bernard Finucane And that was BS . This should’ve been it’s own release
It's was a double A side single. Like Something / Come Together.

And everything which came after them, including the other greatest bands (Who, Zeppelin, Stones, etc.) would not have existed if not for the groundwork laid by The Beatles. Yeah. I was twelve years old when this song (on a double-A-side single with "Hey Jude") was released. The Beatles changed their style so frequently and so drastically from 1964 through1970 that every record that was released almost sounded like a new band. Amazing.
Wow! Even now all these years later it still moves me.
It would probaly be the same as when you heard any of them for the first time at any time
My mom was very anti-beatles...
The Beatles were an amazing musical miracle.
I've been listening to them since the beginning. It never gets old. Side two of Abby Road is as good as it gets.
Excellent post
They were pop, according to their era. Pop is not a fixed definition, only what's popular, and being pop doesn't prevent you from being another genre. Sometime in the future, its possible that Death Metal will become the preferred genre of the masses, and then that will be considered as pop.
What do you mean metal? This band doesn't even djent!
YEP! FIRST FEEDBACK ON RECORD IS THE INTRO TO "I FEEL FINE"
john actually even cut his speaker to get distortion cause it was nt available yet
Sorry, that's "You Really Got Me' by, The Kinks. That was Dave Davies that did that one. Long before.
Alienart I think The Blue Cheer were the first real heavy metal band.
