"279 cards" had me REELING, this sounds incredible as someone who watched this develop from the 1st public open beta ❤
Really impressed by the price point for the regular edition! One thing: I'd love to buy an add-on extra batch of cards.
$90 bucks? Seems expensive
same, I hope that gets added once the game comes out.
@@JohnSmith-rr3jt huh? it's 60 in my Region and that's a normal price for rule books
@@schallan1282 That's what it is for me too and I was surprised the cards didn't bump the price
It's really fun seeing Spenser in this video compared to the first about Daggerheart. From seemingly nervous but excited to share, to now just joyfully sharing with no jitters (at least no visible jitters). My headcanon is he got swarmed by critter love for both his work and his person :)
Daggerheart looks amazing can’t wait to try it out. On a completely different note tho that mighty 9 shirt matt had on is getting me hype for the eventual one shot with some old friends of ours. As well as the lads over with Vox Machina, I live for the day Travis gets to say “I would like to rage” once again
My group is loving this system but I really hope we get some more solid info on what digital tools will be available. It’s a big deal from an accessibility standpoint, for online campaigns, DM coordination, and general ease of play so we spend more time exploring worlds than managing a paper sheet haha. Can’t wait but hoping something like what you have on demiplane now comes to us somehow with the full release.
I know you guys are itching to get the game out the door and into players hands, but I am a little concerned about some pretty drastic changes being put in right before going to press. They sound like great changes that will improve the flow of the game, don't get me wrong! But I can't help thinking if this basically "final beta build" should get more public feedback before locking it down. It makes me feel like there will have to be a rapid release of a Daggerheart 1.1 Errata and Addendum for those who pre-order.
Yeah, I hope to see how more what the mean about the action tracker. It sounds like a hard change that messes a lot of things up, I feel like I was missing something here.
They did say it was being tested and launch final beta sign ups last month though and those testers should be testing it
It was already play tested that way.
It is already being played tested. They have been play testing with the public since at least March. Things are obviously going to change anyway as time goes on. It is what happened in C1. They changed things as time went on.
The game is still coming out in 2025. I don't think they'll make major changes until release but they will most likely still adjust and fine tune the system
I appreciate the discount code for people who applied to the closed beta but didn’t get in! Hopefully the updates continue 🎉
D&D has errata, Pathfinder has errata, it's just a thing tabletop games do - nobody can account for every tiny detail that may come to light, even with playtesting out the wazoo. I'm, personally, looking forward to this system coming! Having playtested and hearing the changes coming, it really feels like an interesting intermingling of a bit of crunch and a narrative focus, sort of Blades in the Dark meets a D&D-like. Campaign frames sound dope, really liking what I'm hearing about the Hope and Fear changes, and the Armor thresholds. Little crunch, more than 5e (good imo), less than PF (though I love that, too). Looking forward to the game coming live!
That’s interesting. The way they removed the Action Tokens and streamlined the GM’s Fear spending was how I’ve already been running the game as a GM.
A companion app would really seal the deal for me.
Isn't it on Demiplane?
Already has
1.5 playtest is free on Demiplane currently
I wish i had a group of friends to make this something I would purchase.
But Matt, you are too cute in your love of this project. Xoxo
Hello! First of all, congratulations on Pre-Order! I checked out the pre-order and saw there are no options for South America (tbh I expected this since its difficult to ship things here so no biggie). That being said, are there any plans to do a virtual release? I'd be interested in that! If anyone knows anything about this, thank you! I'm only 20 mins into the live stream but I wanted to ask in case someone knew.
Love from Argentina CR Family!
The changes to Armor sound like exactly what I, and I'm guessing lots of others were hoping for!
When I ran a ten-shot we played through Levels 1-10. At higher levels, the maths when a character took a hit REALLY slowed the game down as they figured out how exactly to optimally soak it with armor slots. In combat, I want speed and lots of player decisions in quick succession, not the roadblock caused when a player had to get a calculator out of their bag!
Super excited to get my hands on the finished product when it releases - 279 unique cards is an amazing amount of detail! I'd be VERY curious to know if an art book is planned? On my wishlist would also be a deck of wipedown cards for Adversaries where I can mark HP and Stress, maybe some Environment ones too?
I'm very surprised, and It makes me very nervous, to hear about such big changes that we don't get to get our hands on before buying it. The Armor and Threshold changes require rebalancing an absurd amount of things, from damage to immensely affecting the level up options and so much more. It is just very unexpected, after having a large amount of their future player base get used to a significantly different version of this system.
Also, just personally, the choices of using different amounts of armor to choose how much damage to negate was one of my favorite things about this system. It was one of the most fun unique things daggerheart had going for it...
Also removing the action tracker makes me very curious how they will balance so many abilities now. Because in combat, the fact that lots of buff spells and abilities gave an action point to the dm for enemy activation helped keep them balanced. But if that's not a thing anymore, I'm very curious what will keep people from just doing every buff they can with no chance of an enemy attacking.
Completely unrelated, but I'm so surprised they're releasing it with only the 9 community cards. Only 9 background options seems really strange, and I always hoped they'd try to increase it to match the 18 ancestry. I know that seems like a lot, but it just feels like the community cards could start feeling really repetative, when a lot of systems have such a wealth of background options that many players are likely used to.
You say that about the Communities, but remember that Experiences are basically a background equivalent as well? You could have two entirely different Seaborne with differing Experiences, where one is a sushi chef and the other is a pirate? Don't underestimate the potential to drive creativity that limitation can bring
What community would you add that isn't already existing? They really covered all the archetypes imo
@@gangamel5979 I don't know. I admit they have a lot or archetypes, but at the end of the day, they have some really specific stuff like living by the ocean mixed in there. But nothing like a small town, no farmer, no merchant. If you want to be from a city, then you're either a noble, bound by order and oaths, a scholar, or some kind of thief or underborne. Just feels like there's some gaps that I thought might get filled. Especially when taking the abilities into account, a lot of them cover very specific archetypes, and I've had people be a lot more unsure of which of those specifics fit the character they want to make.
But yeah, for all that word vomit I just said, I get what you mean, you're not wrong. Just thought it was interesting.
Also, I just find it funny the only two replies I have on this comment address the community thing I just threw in at the end :)
I'm very excited about this changes, as most of the reason I fell off the tests were the confusing gm mechanics and the math.
Keep up the good work team, excited to get this book on my hands!
As someone who has GMed Daggerheart for two small campaigns, these sound like great changes.
I preordered it so fast that I forgot I had the Beacon membership discount available until like an hour after I purchased it. 😂
Blargh I missed it, I was at work. I love it when they're live-live.
really love all the rule changes announced here!
Looks great, guys. Set purchased. Fun forthcoming.
QUESTION: Will there be a dog based heritage? Since you have Katari?
My player just reskinned a Katari into a dogfolk race.
@@WolfMoon173 guess that could work...🤔
Aye, re-skin Katari to a Fox-based heritage, the Vulpen
@@CheeseWyrm love that idea
@@kathyl9429 You could use Mixed Ancestry to take a trait from one Ancestry and combine it with a trait from another. A player in my game wanted to play a lion man, so I combined a Katari’s claws with an Orc’s durability.
I hope this game explodes in popularity so that later we can maybe get cool additions like a Deck of Many Foes which is a fully illustrated actual deck of cards with all the needed monster info on it. Could be a really cool way to setup encounters instead of roll tables to just top deck from pre-selected monster cards
Thinking about the changes to armor and thresholds, which definitely has a lot of repercussions of how abilities, leveling up, and so many more things need to be balanced, kinda destroyed my excitement to keep experimenting with 1.5 on demiplane and such. Why keep learning the game and finding builds I love when I'd just be hyping myself up for a system that might not work like that at all upon release. It's just kind of sad, and I didn't expect it to have this excitment deflating effect on me...
I'm still really excited and happy for all that their doing, and I hope it's balanced well and feels great on release. It just feels weird right now...
hopefully the preorder process goes better for y'all than the 5.5e/onednd thing for wizards with the dndbeyond bundle.
@@eflarsen why do you even need to bring that up
@@stellarsorcerer3569I mean, they’re both recent preorders for ttrpgs. It’s not like it’s unrelated
That's a low bar to set, if they print all the books people preorder they alredy did a better job. :D
@@stellarsorcerer3569Probably because it's a very similar situation that was poorly handled and hopefully CR has learned a lesson from that, since they're heavily tied to 5e.
I'm a bit worried the action/fear economy stays balanced, now with the removal of the action tracker.
While before, every PC move meant a NPC move, now only every second PC move translates into a NPC move.
I think gaining Fear at session start and during rests will help a bit with this
Pre-Order hype :D
I knew this would be good but this is more and more sounding to be absolutely perfect. This is gonna change the game industry because DnD really set the tone for math heavy games leading the industry but hopefully this will set the trend for more narrative focus games being the head.
Don't need complex math to have a lot of mechanics as shown by the amount of cards this game has.
I hope eventually there will be a feature in Demiplane to add homebrew so it’s not just on pen and paper. My campaign has an artificer, Stars Druid, and a twilight cleric (also a swashbuckler rouge but that’s easy with current tools) without homebrew these options aren’t the easiest to reflect with current DH options. Homebrew? Easy but the app currently doesn’t support homebrew like dndbeyond. Would love to add say a “Spellwright” (artificer 😉) to the classes in app.
I am a little hesitant to get the Deluxe edition when the cards will get updated pretty soon after release anyway :/
Id love to see more supplemental books come out too! Monster lists and stats, adventure modules, ect.
Awesome little battle wish I could find a group for daggerheart and I also need time to play (sad face)
Not me, sharpening my GMs pencil furtively in the dark.
How fun!! Congrats!!!
I wont lie, im worried and anxious about this releace. I was expecting a peep about degger heart around November at the earliest. Im worried if this game is being looked at with rose tinted glasses. At the same time i cant wait!
Question.
¿Have any plans to expand to south america or translate to spanish?
Hi! Would there be shipment to Mexico? I couldn't find the option in the page or a digital option?
They only care for US/CA, Australia and Europe...
I'll wait for the pdf materials available, as Indonesian, i cant pull the preorder. My gov sucks
Six years in the ttrpg industry, I definitely feel what you're saying at the start xD Time do be a soup
Armor slots to reduce severity seemed the obvious option from the start
starts 14:50
$89.50 AUD Core
$230.00 AUD Collector's
That's an amazing price! Imo
I'm curious/concerned how they're gonna handle things that just took actions before in combat without the action tracker. Like drinking a potion, or other buffs that use to say "as an action". As adding tokens to the action tracker discouraged someone just taking 3 potions back to back with no consequences. Whatever they do, it will require redoing so many abilities and rewording so much text.
Hoping one of the campaign frames is a space fantasy theme.
I need more then a deck of cards and a book for a collectors edition. Starfinder and Pathfinder have set a standard in the community.
Standees, maps, three books. Character sheets, folders a screen. And that's the starter set.
Paying double the amount for a book should get us more then a fancy cover I'm sorry.
Good thing it comes with a DM screen, foil cards, a dice set, tokens for Hope, Fear, Actions, and Abilities, a Collector's Case to keep everything in, AND the Alt cover.
It's more than reasonable.
I don't understand the thresholds. You have 2 numbers for threshold but I also don't know what it is either. Can anyone help explain to my silly brain?
So from what I can gather is that your armor is going to determine your thresholds. Which was originally determined by your class.
The chance of your character being hit is determined by your evasion but your armor now determines how much damage you will take when hit.
It looks like this.
Minor Damage = -1hp (Armor Threshold) Major Damage = -2hp (Armor Threshold) Severe damage = -3hp
To give that another way to look at it you can also do this
Minor Damage
@IgnarXela fantastic explanation. Thank you! So interesting. I wonder how this flow of combat would feel smoother. Seems like an extra step in combat but I suppose it's cool that the player has a bit more agency against the RNG of combat.
@@peter_schomus definitely an interesting take, and as they say in the video it reduces some of the math if your just decreasing your threshold
El detalle de sus dibujos es impresionante, simplemente es arte:-D
I new action tokens and armour were going to end up like this by the end of this beta test
HOLD UP… Spenser Starke from Sourcefed and We Stayed Late podcast?!? 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
The beacon version has the beginning cut off
Did someone got how Matt got the fear points in the mock battle ? Not the 2 starting ones but the others. He said the GM gains it when he rolls with fear. How so if he rolls a d20?
think that was a mistake when talking live, think the players fear is giving the GM the fear if the GM is sticking with the D20
Sorry for insisting on this, but preorders are not available in Chile and I assume other Latin American countries. I hope you find a solution! 🙏🫶
Nor in Puerto Rico, which is sad since I've ordered on their shop before with no problem :(
Yes! Tried to order from Brazil, and nothing, despite having ordered from their shops in the past. Also hoping for a solution.
Yes! Not available in Brazil too! There's a lot of Critters bellow the Equator, but I guess they only care for the English speaking countries and Europe.
Regarding Brazil, Jambô (a nacional press focused on rpg and other geek things) already announced they are going to translate to pt-br and bring Daggerheart down here.
For me, CR is going to work with this business model, selling daggerheart rights to presses to release in other regions.
@lucasmathias2325 I didn't know that! But they're likely not bringing the limited edition, or are they?
Please, news on VTTs (Foundry specifically)
There's an OGL so it'll happen.
Is Umbra the future of Exandria after predothos eats the gods?
i would like to see more daggerheart and candela quit frankly
i bought candela and noticed there's nothing to fight in the book [a bestiary so to speak] and i hope daggerheart corrects that
I agree that having no beastiary makes it a ton harder; however, 1.5 has a list of monsters AND environmental stuff, and they said we would have anything we would need. I don't imagine the monster lost would be huge, but i wouldn't be afraid to cater my own monster to my game of players. That's me tho.
This is where Darrington Press need to step up prod schedule on supplements if they want to 'ride the wave', & not slide off the back
@@CheeseWyrmAgreed if just this book releases and there are no quickish supplemental follow ups they will loose steam in a years time. As much as players complain about companies releasing too much stuff to buy, it is an effective business and marketing tactic to stay relative. If this is the only book we get and it stays like that for over a year people will fall off
15:39 It's been one week since you looked at me...
❤❤❤❤❤
I think I'll wait till its been completed and released for 6 - 12 months before I look at buying a copy. The price will probably have come down by then.
I doubt it. It will probably just go up unless you can get it on sale. It has been worked on for 2 years. And it has been in testing since March.
15:28 is the Corset available in my size?
We play daggerheart
I like the system but for third option not as my main ttrpg so please tell me that the 4th campaing would be with new 5e not with Daggerheart and you will play Daggerheart like Candela Obscura in short shots.
I thought to myself...
Is it possible to play a multi character game with two people?
I thought...yes :)
One person may play the entire party...
While...
The other person conducts the campaign...
So games like this can be enjoyed with a minimum of two people :)
Only one person...?
That^ would be weird... D:
I also have done a lot of playing Daggerheart with my wife one on one, and what we do is one of us plays one character, and the other is the GM. Sometimes the one being the GM needs a 10 minute break to quickly prepare things, but it tends to be really fun and focused a lot more on the journey of the "main character" (only character) while there are NPCs that revolve in and out of the story with a few that stay long term
Yey I was first in chat. Also yey daggerheart
Meh.. I'm optimistically doubtful.. we'll see if the system picks up.
But even basic dnd style ttrpg's took decades to catch on in the semi common household, so I wouldn't be surprised if the game flatelines in the first couple years.
The changes to Armor and Damage Thresholds made me throw up in my mouth NOT a little bit.
My group and I...really...wished you had not changed the armour system....
What does hope and fear replace? Initiative?
Fear is a GM's resource for big turns and taking actions in combat, Hope gives players resources that power their stronger abilities.
Really not a fan of the removal of the action tracker and action tokens. A structured system for players to not hog actions is big to make sure everyone can do something in combat
Based on what they said, it seems the action tracker is remaining as an optional rule.
Missing in combat feels a lot like missing a turn.
I would argue that is the case in every TTRPG
I mean, that’s generally what 5e feels like too.
@@kendalllaceymerritt9328 DH seems to flow a bit faster too, so it’s less punishing.
If you miss, just keep the spotlight on yourself until something interesting happens! Think of it more like a movie scene rather than six seconds if disappointing combat.
13th Age addresses this. Often a miss will still do a little damage, or some other effect. (Remember- a combat action is not a single swing & hit/miss, but rather a game-simulation of a series of manoeuvres that MAY result in decisive results)
Why do you guys keep ignoring Brazil? There's a lot of fans here! We want to buy things from the Critical Role Shop too!! 🤨
The Avatar RPG was fully translated to PT-BR and had a successfull crowdfunder in Brazil, hopefully something like that is possible down the line. We have publishers in Brazil that can make products cheaper than imported products.
There is a lot more to selling to other countries than just 'ignoring'. You are naive if you think that is all it is. There is so many hurdles to selling to other countries.
A Jambô já anunciou que vai ter no Brasil traduzido há eras.
@@MNTNHMESMO Eles já falaram na intro de um episódio que a audiência do Brasil é grande, se não me engano foi na campanha 3 mesmo.
still find the fact you need cards and the whole system to be lacking... not a fan...
I wish i was more excited for this game but it feels *in my opinon* too much like a gane designed more for CR to not use DND has their main game anymore
Its like how cabdela obscura feels like legally distinct Call of Cthulu
and what's wrong with that? There's so many D&D campaigns, that it feels good (for me personally) to have campaigns and one shots being played by a completely different system.
Also D&D has done mistakes recently so having your own system that was improved with player feedback it's better in the long run than having to rely on Wizards of the Coast to improve D&D for better
And Wizards as failed their deals with CR before, so this also helps if that happens again
That makes no sense to say as a reason to not be excited to play it. Big narrative games are great with the right group, and a decent GM. 5e just has so many hurdles to get through to have that same narrative experience. It's like how PF2e is for people that want a more tactical group combat lean, DH will be more for RP, and 5e will be the beginner baseline that's just kinda okay at either.
I personally look forward to this if only for the market share it will take away from the sorcerers by the sea, even if it is only temporary. If it is successful, maybe it can replace it. If not, hopefully it can spur some creativity and innovation on the side of the warlocks of the water. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking on my part
Tbh WOTC suck so I hope everyone would leave 5e for some other systems
With this armor no math stuff will be a little borring, i think
Because now armor slot is Just a fix - 1 damage, nothing more
I feel the shift to reducing incoming damage to hit points marked makes the change feel more fluid and intuitive, personally
i think it has more than that, i think your Minor and Major damage still play a role into it, while doing the test run in this video, i think it shows that. If damage is higher than your major you still take damage, if damage is lower than your major you are able to don't take any damage.
Or did I understood that wrong?!
hmmm I dunno, none of this marketing fluff really tells me how this game competes with D&D and pathfinder. Pretty cards and art, might work for some, but give me the meat and give it to me raw. . A concise, just the facts video of what makes your game unique, thanks
They have literally already done that several times before. There are videos on them running the beta. There are public beta playtest documents available to look at *right now*. Something tells me you prefer information being spoon-fed to you
48386 Gerald Cape
Worried those cards are gonna become a "gocha" game. Looks great though!
You do know there are a bunch of TTRPG games that use cards but dont make it gocha right? And do you really think Crit Role is going to do that? They literally put everything in a single book so you didn't have to spend double the money for multiple books.
Even if for some reason they do, D&D did the same exact thing, but with a bunch of random characters. At least cards would be cheaper. But I just don't see it happening.
@@iceman3317 None of what you said actually addresses the point.
The cards are a nice, tangible player-aid - but I'm hoping that the same info is listed/tabled in the rulebook too. I think that I'd more likely look up the page in the book, than rifle through a deck of cards to find a detail. Also - I'd probably have distributed a number of the cards to my players, yet still want to look up the info.
