It's smart to say that? They know everybody hated it. The dumbest thing they could do is say we liked the trailer and it represents the game well. If they want it to sell well, they have to say they didn't like it.
@@bryandedon7459nah tbf the marketing team has fucked up big time as always. I'm still on the fence for that game but if the rest of what Bioware has shown was like that 1st trailer, yeah it would have been in my ignore list lol
Why would you be remain skeptical of every single RUclipsr that went out on an all expenses paid free trip by EA, to go play DAV for 7 hours. All came back loving it and repeating all of the same talking points?? RUclipsrs are not much more them paid influencers anymore. The wild west halcyon days of free independent reviews have gone the way of journalists and professional Movie and VG critics. The biggest hurdle unlike for Movies or shows. Is that it takes days to play a video game to actually be able to review it., Hence YT rely on getting early review copies or access before the game officially launches to have a video uploaded and ready to collect as many views as possible the day the game launches. And that is where integrity and this Wild independant YT thing of ours is compromised if not dying, bc as soon as these guys get big enough to quit their day jobs they have to at least compromise with the big game Publishers, or ear their channel will become irrelevant, lost in the crowd of late game revews. Sure you can knock the living crap out of Anthem when the player count on Steam is in the toilet anyway. Sure you can laugh at MEA when there are already a dozen memes of "my face is tired". Lol EA took all these YTs out, and paid them to come review their game. Luka and all of the other RUclipsrs that accepted, already understood they had to play ball with EA or get blacklisted for good. It will be extremely interesting to watch what all of the other YTs say about this game, if they even bother to upload a review of it like a few days after it launched.
This i can agree on. I'll be honest, the art style is appealing yes. But somehow it just gives me such poopoo doodoo woke vibes. It looks soooooooooo forced inclusivity. I'll reserve full judgement until it drops.
Completely disagree with the idea of $60 being a "discount". A few companies have tried to experiment with pushing standard editions up to $70 but it is far from the norm. $60 is full price, let's not get it twisted.

ok, lets not go calling 60 bucks ''discounted,'' because it is not, it is the normal AAA price. the 70 bucks companies are asking for now is just greed, simple as that.
60 bucks has been the price for ages. Everything else has gone up. It is not greedy at some point to account for higher costs with higher prices, that's just how they keep making money. If they don't do that, at some point we will only get the safe money-milkers like FIFA and CoD because if the margins get slimmer, the risks must be smaller. Imo it is absolutely fine to adjust prices for inflation at some point and anyone calling that greed is simply blind to the costs of developing a video game.

I find it so odd that people complain it isn't a fully open world. DA:O wasn't like that. It was barely open world. A lot of people disliked the open world of DA:I. Besides, it seems like people are sick of open world games? Feels like a hybrid would be ideal. Smaller areas designed with intention for interesting interactions and exploration.
DA:O had an incredible story and characters… DA:I had a great open world and sort of great character arcs, I’m extremely open to this game but I HATE games that become political and add “chest surgery” LOL ITS A MAGICAL WORLD THAT LITERALLY MAKES ZERO SENSE TO HAVE THAT. 😂😂😂
Why? fans have always lamented the games getting worse and shallower. DA:O should be the absolute bare minimum bar for a sequel to surpass. Not the ultimate goal. We want the games to get better. Going from open regions to linear maps is the games getting worse, not better.
Don't know if I'd say Bioware had a 'choice' when it came to the Frostbite engine. I remember articles about EA's higher ups 'strongly encouraging' their studios to use it, despite the fact it's a complicated engine better suited for FPS games (and Bioware is definitely known for their FPS titles). Glad to see the devs have managed to iron out those issues, but, lets be honest, EA kinda set Bioware up to fail prior to Veilguard.
Why the hell would they force em to use it? Is it cheaper or something? Feels like forcing devs to use something unfamiliar when they don’t need to might be a bit of gamble development wise on the crash and burn scale
@@theblackoutexplorer2658 Using other propietary engines costs money, a lot. That's why companies try to develop their own and then force their studios to use it even if they are not suited for their kind of games. CDPR used the red engine for all their games, until they fucked it up with Cyberpunk 2077. After that, they decided to go to Unreal engine, because the costs of using their own it's just not worth it. That's were the problem has always been.
@@jonanderetxebarria9944 Switching to Unreal will 100% be the worst thing that CDPR has ever done, they had an engine that gave us the best Graphics in gaming history ever with reasonable performance (after tweaks) and yet they abandoned it for the piece of shit that is UE5 that has HORRIBLE performance and makes all the game made with it look exactly the same and not even look as good as the red engine. It is bad the animations look like AA jank and some of the features belong in the early 2000's there is no damn excuse for either with thier time and budget
Yeah...this was the oddest review I've seen so far. Absolutely zero criticism, just going around and saying that some things could be better but are still good. Or that there will be some people that won't enjoy the action combat and lack of party control, SOME ? Most of the fanbase is up in arms against these decision and you call it some people ? Look I'm going to reserve my judgement for when it releases. Even if they made the new combat work and lack of party control, I will still feel like it's missing an integral part of the franchise. And while this is not what you intended to say, it is what you said. While SOME people, meaning those that did enjoy the last 3 games over a span of 15 years, might not enjoy it don't worry the game was hand crafted to hit all demographics so that they can get as much revenue as possible while sacrificing the soul of the franchise. It's a weird thought to come and say that the complete change in direction will attract a lot of people, of course it will, that's why they did it. Doesn't mean the franchise will benefit from it, only the pockets will benefit. Did we forget when Ubisoft sacrificed Assassin's Creed from what it was intended to be into whatever it became ? And they didn't even have to change to combat to kill the soul of the game, how is this fine in comparison ? It's a blatant display of sacrificing the fanbase for a bigger audience. And yet when they do it to movies or other media, it's seen as not acceptable and a money grab. When Bioware does it, they get praised ? This can be game of the year objectively and I could be enjoying the heck out of it, I still wouldn't call it Dragon Age. I would have loved to see this but with a new IP instead, I'm not against what they are doing here, I just wished they didn't do it with Dragon Age. Let's go over some criticism that is fair, please stop praising what they made here and look at what they gave up to come up with this. - Boring character design and models, Qunari look like something a starting indie company would come up with, absolutely a disgrace for 3D models. - No party combat, and no, having some random ability presses and "synergies" between your character and NPCs is not party control - No Tactical Pause because action combat - Mobile game UI, call it whatever you like, it's horrendous eye candy made to attract some demographics that didn't care about the franchise before this, it was a purposeful decision, it didn't come up out of thin air in the project files - From what I've gathered the dialogues between characters is very bland. Only talking about current events and completely disregarding the previous IPs or just mocking them as if they don't matter You should be judging this game based on what made it be able to even exist, which is not this iteration. Doesn't matter how well the combat is made or whatever else, it's not Dragon Age. I don't care even if it's on par with God of War or Ghosts of Tsushima levels of action combat (masterpieces, both games). This is neither of those and hasn't been for the past 15 years. It's like completely changing the rules of chess to play more like football and saying "Oh but look, the mechanics are just as good as football so it's a good sport". Not the point. Again, I don't mind what they are doing here, could be and will most likely be a good game but it's not Dragon Age.

I was scared to put $60 towards this game. It wasn't the Dragon Age that "I" was used to, but neither were all the sequels that came after the original one. After hitting the gym, and having a nice big meal, I made the purchase, and I've been playing it ever since I installed it. Does it look different? Yes. Does it play the same as before? No. Is the writing kind of cheesy? That's a big 10-4. It's a simplified version of what we were playing before, but it's fun. The combat fills more arcade style, and I'm not very invested in my party quite yet, but neither was I in the prior games. At least not at the beginning. It's usually not until I get midway through my playthrough, that I start all over again, reinvested in these characters. Either way, I'm having fun.
I'm not pre-ordering shit. It's not based on emotions. It's based on the statistics and track record of all these AAA developers that frankly don't give a shit about the games, just the contents of our wallets. EA/Bioware. Activision/Blizzard. And now Firaxis and Paradox (my two favourites) have slowly, but surely, given in to the corruption from the empty suits in their board rooms...

I feel like my problem with hair wasn’t that it was stiff but the lack of variety. Dragon age inquisition had mullets and odd bobs. The combination of male and female hairs was just lazy designing. From what I’ve seen in veilguard some of the hairs read too modern. I want sexy slick back hair, intricate braids, hair that looks like it’s been through the forest, combat ready hair. I don’t really care if it moves in the wind, that doesn’t help with the story I’m telling. It seems like veilguard carries that combination of gender hairs. I really want my character creation choices to be a bit more thought heavy, maybe race specific hairs and tattoos, (they kinda had that for tattoos in previous games).
To be fair a LOT of us complained during DAI days (The fact Scout Harding and Empress Celene during s ball had the same style…) about plastic helmet hair, seeing them do better is actually really welcome and highly requested.
Multiple content creators keep mentioning the hair, almost as if it's a told to talking point to distract from the rest of the game so potential customers don't see the cracks or dumbed down gameplay mechanics. But the hair, though! The hair!
Luke makes it sound like Veilguard is lo key “game of the year” here? Hope it lives up to that but I’m not throwing money down until I’ve seen in depth reviews. “Fool me once…” 🤗
The problem I have with this game is how every character looks like a dwarf because they gave them giant heads, little stubby limbs and narrow shoulders. Weird.
@@Nahtan.9758 I just did a rigorous comparison from head-on body screenshots and Morrigan in DAO is ~7 heads tall (we artists measure proportions using heads, often), while in Veilguard she's only around 5 heads tall. So relative to her head size, her body is much, much larger in DAO (around 40% larger). The Veilguard version is typically what we find in humans who are very short, like less than 5 feet tall. In DAO, her proportions suggest a fairly tall woman, perhaps around 5'8 to 5'10. I don't mind the stylization so much. It's an interesting art style. Yet it doesn't seem to tonally fit the darker tones of the game. It's typically something we'd expect to find in something that has a lighter theme, more cute or humorous in nature.
@@bluedistortions I wonder how much Busche had a say over the art direction as game director. I've never worked in a large game studio like this to know how much influence the game director over the art director (only small studios where the game director had a lot of say over everything). It does seem to fit more closely the stylization of the Sims, although even many Sims characters have more realistic overall body proportions than this from what I've seen with the exception of Sims Mobile. Sims Mobile seems to have comparable proportions; typically mobile games tend to exaggerate proportions a lot more (especially heads if facial expressions are important) since the screens are so tiny and there's a greater need to emphasize certain features. One thing of note is that average human beings do tend to be only around 5.5-6.5 heads high for women and around 6-7 for men, unless they're quite tall. So in a sense, these proportions aren't necessarily unrealistic even though they might look funny to our eyes. However, artist canons usually tend to be far more idealistic; like Greek Statues of gods and goddesses sometimes went as much as 11 heads tall to create towering, epic, ideailzed figures. And comic book artists often favor figures as high as 9 heads. So I think we're generally used to seeing characters with larger-than-usual bodies in the media and the arts. Still, 5 heads tall is pretty low for a human, and I think it looks even weirder because in scale to the game, the actual heights/scale of the characters don't match what we'd expect to find in human beings of that height.

Curious though Luke since you said yourself that you weren't really into the franchise before, but your wife was. What's her impressions or take on it? As a Dragon Age vet, I'm kind of mixed on a lot of the changes, it feels like we're going thru the same changes that happened from Origins to DA2 all over again.

Bioware is so brave for using an old, crappy enginge instead of taking the easy way out and spending money on developing a better one! Bioware is so kind to bring us this AAA at a gracious discount! 60 bucks is so consumer friendly - when they know that it would fly off the shelves at 90+ just the same! Not saying GAME OF THE YEAR, but I'm pretty sure this will be GOTY! I'm so PROUD to SUPPORT Bioware's new game. Since this is a unbiased and fair review, let me also comment on something negative: Will in BG3 is kinda lame.
I'm sorry, but framing $60 as a "discount" just because AAA publishers have pushed $70 as the standard for the last few years is pure cope. That is not a positive to be put on a pedestal, it's an indictment on the industry's anti-consumer practices.
And this was the goal all along - gaslight us into giving them praise for doing what used to be the top limit of pricing. Consumers: $60 is pretty steep, I don't know... Predators: Oh? Well, now it's $70+! How do you like that? Consumers: ooh... I don't think I will buy any game ever again. Predators: Aww! Well, tell you what, how about we make it $60? Consumers: That's great! As a Dragon Age fan I sadly see no Dragon Age in this game. All I see and hear is people trying to convince players that their eyes are wrong and that the game is good. The characters that nearly died - 0 blood from your companions or enemies - just bruises. No spiders because "that might trigger someone". Im just disappointed we dont have control of our party and theres no tactical mode. Not that ive seen anyways. It looks cool, but it doesnt look like dragon age. Idk, maybe im just not the target audience for this anymore.
All dragon age games differ from each other in visuals and gameplay. Party control and tactical mode aren't the only things that make dragon age what it is
@Foreseer117 I didn't say those things weren't in Dragon Age games, I said those aren't the only things that make a Dragon Age game a Dragon Age game. Also, if "tactical mode" is referring to the overhead tactical camera, then you are incorrect. Tactical mode isn't in every Dragon Age game. Tactical mode wasn't in DA2 at all, it was cut from all platforms it released on. Party control has been in every Dragon Age game, but tactical mode has not. So you have a bad memory, or you're just a straight up liar.
@@BashyenoM I'm talking the real time with pause combat which was in 2. The overhead camera isn't entirely necessary to facilitate the tactical combat option.

I'm very happy to hear that the world/level design isn't open world copy pasta like Dragon Age: Inquisition and actually sounds more similar to Dragon Age: Origins.
What you said at 16:20 is exactly what’s wrong with the gaming industry today… It’s either agenda pushing or it’s copy and paste b/s There’s no passion anymore, no originality, no innovation, just the same game repackaged with a different bow over and over and over and over again

@@nine9_abyss Yeah, at the end of the day, when I think back on my playthroughs of the DA games, or even just DAO, it's not the companion tactics and execution thereof that I'll be wistfully recalling, it's going to be the characters, the story, my choices, the tension, the important lore moments that unfolded before me, etc. The combat has always been passable, a way to get from point A to point B without being tedious or boring, and giving some diverse build options for a bit of variety. It's never been the primary selling point of the series, even back with DAO
@@fluffy_walrus 💯. That's why I think Larian made the right choice in going turn based with BG3. Meh... doesn't look bad, but BG3 ruined me. I rather want tactical turn-based combat. No criticism, just a personal preference. Aside from that, don't ever trust exclusive previews like this one. No harm in waiting for independent reporting.

It seems like they took a lot of inspo from GOW and maybe Witcher 3 which I'm vibing with. I actually really like the look of the combat. I was never playing Dragon Age for the combat systems but I loved the world, story, and characters SO MUCH that I rolled with it anyway. The only thing I'm kinda not happy about is the lack of choices carrying over from previous games but I'll have to see how it affects the world. Anyway I liked this video a lot thanks
RUclips gives creators two options for thumbnails, some people see option A and some see option B. After awhile which ever thumbnail that gets clicked on the most, will automatically become the only thumbnail

To me, I could see them deliberately giving you the "darkest" moments of the entire game for you to play through to "prove" that you are not playing Fortnite. Why am I so uber sceptical? STUDIO NAME MEANS NOTHING NOWADAYS Just because it's "supposedly" coming from a studio you know, it's not coming from the PEOPLE that made things good. With Bioware, that "Dragon Age talent" has left. In their place is a bunch of new talent who don't know what they are doing or haven't played the older games in the franchise because they just wanted a job to pay rent. That being said... I humbly disagree with you and I still think the game looks bad. I don't like the artstyle and tone. It's too Fortnite-y. It's too purple. It reeks of "a modern game for modern audiences". It doesn't matter if the game has ton of choices if all of the writing is stupid "He's right behind me, isn't he?" type of shiz. I won't care if an entire city of insufferable NPCs dies due to my actions when the tone is like Fortnite and makes me feel like they'll just respawn.
The UI is genuinely off-putting. I hate how modern Assassin’s Creed it looks and the lack of in-depth party control. It just feels like Dragon Age for brainrot victims who don’t want depth and accurate lore. I mean they don’t even have the creator and writer working on ANY aspect of this game
So 1) how much did BioWare pay you to do this preview? By pay I mean did they buy your flight, hotel, meals, etc. or did you pay for that out of your own pocket. I noticed you didn’t mention that in your video. If they did cover your expenses like I know they did for some of these other content creators and game journalists then I’m a bit more skeptical of your review. I also notice you’re using very similar buzzwords that IGN and Mr Matty used when previewing this game and it makes me think you’re all reading from the same pre approved script. For example the Harding injuries literally gets brought up every time during these previews and you all say the exact same thing. 2) I noticed you didn’t bother to address any of the controversies around this game mainly around the character creator, the massive changes to the Qunari design and the obvious pandering BioWare is doing to specific groups in order to appeal to the “modern audience.” It’s great that you’re saying the game isn’t bugged out and broken but it’s no secret what the issues are regarding this game for the Dragon Age fans and it looks like you did everything you could to sidestep addressing those issues. I do not believe I’ll be picking this game up on release. Maybe if there’s a massive discount on it or if it drops on game pass I might pick it up. Other than that BioWare has lost much of it’s credibility and frankly does not deserve a dime from the average consumer until they actually follow through on what their customer base actually wants which they appear to be trying to appeal to everyone except the people that would actually buy their product.

Lol
EA took all these YTs out, and paid them to come review their game. Luka and all of the other RUclipsrs that accepted, already understood they had to play ball with EA or get blacklisted for good.
It will be extremely interesting to watch what all of the other YTs say about this game, if they even bother to upload a review of it like a few days after it launched.

the 70 bucks companies are asking for now is just greed, simple as that.

- No party combat, and no, having some random ability presses and "synergies" between your character and NPCs is not party control
- No Tactical Pause because action combat
- Mobile game UI, call it whatever you like, it's horrendous eye candy made to attract some demographics that didn't care about the franchise before this, it was a purposeful decision, it didn't come up out of thin air in the project files
- From what I've gathered the dialogues between characters is very bland. Only talking about current events and completely disregarding the previous IPs or just mocking them as if they don't matter
You should be judging this game based on what made it be able to even exist, which is not this iteration.
I’ll bet that 90% of the employees at BioWare are not the ones those still there today.

They put all that effort into it. They want to make sure you appreciate it.
Preview and the hair looks amazing so if you appreciate graphics and visuals you will talk about it. It’s some of the best looking hair in games

The problem I have with this game is how every character looks like a dwarf because they gave them giant heads, little stubby limbs and narrow shoulders. Weird.
thats how they kinda looked in dao tho lol
It doesn't help they all look very toy like which does nothing but enhance how off they look.
Lead game design was given to a Sims 4 developer. So that's probably why.
Very strange choice.

Totally understand if you can't, I was upset about it for a while, but Bioware improving from Andromeda is very important while experiencing the world a lot of us love in Dragon Age
In a recent stream which had happened after the preview event she said that it's the game she was looking most forward to. I had already assumed that the impressions must have been nice and all the preveiws from different people today seem to follow the same trend.
tfw id rather hear his wife's opinion lmao
No.
Since this is a unbiased and fair review, let me also comment on something negative:
Will in BG3 is kinda lame.
I was really excited to blindly try it.. now a lot of people have put me off buying it..
I'm sorry, but framing $60 as a "discount" just because AAA publishers have pushed $70 as the standard for the last few years is pure cope. That is not a positive to be put on a pedestal, it's an indictment on the industry's anti-consumer practices.
Okay, but it's still a developer going against the trend and being more consumer friendly, and that deserves recognition.
You guys are the best! Praise where it's due. Thank you!
@@the_keychain The publishers are the ones that set the price, not the developer. In this case it would be EA we would be focusing on, not Bioware. So still not a positive for the dev.

Wait and see thing, but i still can't stand the disneyish art style here, super cartoonish. Maybe just not for me.
None of the Dragon Age games are photo-realistic
As graphics get closer to actual photo realism they will become more boring in style... style and 'cartoon' will set games apart... plus it avoids The Uncanny Valley that leaves realistic games cooked.
@@tiffanyc8690 I don't have any issue with "cartoon" in games, but it depends on a game. "Don't starve" is entirely cartoon and i abslolutely love it. It can be amazing if executed well (2D animations in dragon age, 2D screens are really good and alwasy intrigue me). Just here it simply is a mood killer for me. Was there any compensation included for reviewing this game?
As a Dragon Age fan I sadly see no Dragon Age in this game.
All I see and hear is people trying to convince players that their eyes are wrong and that the game is good.
The characters that nearly died - 0 blood from your companions or enemies - just bruises. No spiders because "that might trigger someone". Darkspawn looking like clowns and other enemies looking like toys.
I really think that EA is trying to convince people that their eyes are wrong and reality does not exist.

Also, if "tactical mode" is referring to the overhead tactical camera, then you are incorrect. Tactical mode isn't in every Dragon Age game. Tactical mode wasn't in DA2 at all, it was cut from all platforms it released on.

I mean, as a DA fan who's only rarely controlled my teammates directly since DAO (and in Inq, it was only to heal or dispel magic 98% of the time ), I'm fine with ut given where they're taking the gameplay. There's definitely a variety of views on it among DA fans, a lot don't weight tactical combat heavily in their perception of the game and what they expect from it.
DA trilogy combat was nothing to write home about. it was just 'functional'. I'm genuinely baffled as to why all these 'fans' are crying about it.
Bioware didn't want to commit to it, and they were just stuck with their combat which is janky now when you look back at it. The only thing I'm kinda not happy about is the lack of choices carrying over from previous games but I'll have to see how it affects the world. Anyway I liked this video a lot thanks
Why did you change the text in the thumbnail from 'I'm impressed' to 'I have thoughts'? 🙃
Realized he made it real obvious he was bought and paid for and trying to fix it lmao.
RUclips gives creators two options for thumbnails, some people see option A and some see option B. After awhile which ever thumbnail that gets clicked on the most, will automatically become the only thumbnail
Engagement is higher when you don't know ahead of time what his opinion is before you click on the video. The people who want to hate on this game will check to see if he dislikes it for confirmation bias, and people who want to like this game check to see if he likes it for confirmation bias. If someone who doesn't like this game already looks at the thumbnail that says 'I'm Impressed' they're gonna say 'sure you are' and move on instead of watching.
The art design is still incredibly off putting and the more streamlined combat isn’t fun for those of craving tactical combat ala Origins.
Why do so many people mention origins combat. The logic should stand inquisition is what you would compare it a game that is already a decade old.
