Here's a nice highlights video of the late, great Kevin Gray. Kevin first played Raoul in the Broadway company in 1989-1990, before being brought back as the Phantom on Broadway in 1991. He then took the role in the US tour in 1992 and stayed with the show until 1993.
This video comes from 1993. Kevin was an amazing Phantom with a haunting voice and an amazing, intense acting performance, which you can see brilliantly in this video!
Kevin unfortunately passed away in February, 2013.

Kevin's performance WRECKED me. I thought for many years he only stayed as Phantom for about 2 to 3 months because he has a nervous breakdown, but come to find out that Hal asked him to do the tour after.
God he is FANTASTISC. One of the most organic Phantoms and doesn't feel like he's just filling a track.
The acting masterclass he gave onstage was absolutely PHENOMENAL. He brought something so different that no one else brought. The stakes were super high. He was a desperate, scary, violent, yet gorgeously sweet sounding, romantic Phantom. I was right in December 1990 ("I'll never see a performance like this ever again nor a Phantom like this"). Saw it again in 1994 and then 2015. Nothing compares to the experience, the sheer EXPERIENCE Kevin created.
Kevin was my second Phantom when I saw him on Tour in Washington DC. I went to the Kennedy Center before the midweek Matinee and was frantically searching for the Stage Door. Absolutely no one was around, until a small young lady came walking towards me wearing a backpack obviously looking like a cast member. I asked her if she was in the show and she said "Yes" and introduced herself as Teri Bibb, Christine herself. I was like "blab, blab, blab." Then I realized that I had nothing for her to sign. I asked if Kevin had already arrived. She said she would check. I waited a bit and then after about 10 minutes or so, the Stage Door opened and Kevin came out. He said that he was late for going into his makeup but he was so amazed that I had show up so early for the show. He thanked me for being such an awesome Phan and for the show's support, and he gave to me a signed Souvenir Brochure with his and Teri's signatures. He told me Terri was warming up and that he had to go, but he was such a nice and charming individual. . It was a short meeting (wish I had a smartphone with me but it was around 1992) but it was an amazing experience for a 21 year old girl like me. Thanks for this clip. Makes me cry.
What a great story, you're so lucky! I wish I had gotten into POTO earlier, figures I decided to check it out the week the Broadway run ended and now i can't get enough 😂. If i ever get a time machine I'm going back to experience all these fantastic phantoms

Not only is Terri's voice gorgeous & nearly perfect, her face is so strikingly beautiful.
Kevin was a good friend of ours and this is the closest I've ever gotten to finding a full version of him in Phantom. My family and I sadly never got to see him perform live before he passed away. This is a real treat, so thank you so much for posting it!
I’ve seen phantom 20 times, and never seen him in person and just watching the videos of him, he is hands down the best I’ve ever seen
