He was my phantom. I saw him twice in Philadelphia and once in Boston (when the Boston theater had reopened.) Was so sad when I heard he passed. 😢

My first Phantom. I saw him twice. No one could touch him in all of the times I saw the show until John Owen Jones. They remain my neck and neck 1 & 2. Such a talent gone too soon.

I cannot thank you enough for posting this video. I've never been able to find a full video of Kevin singing The Music of the Night and I was moved to tears. My family is very close with his wife and my dad was good friends with him up until he passed away. My biggest regret is never meeting him. It warms my heart to know that people like you love him and want to keep his spirit alive just like I do.

Kevin died? Well it surely sounds like he was about to croak herein this recording. The way his voice warbles and how slow he’s singing the song. He must have not had much longer on this earth… . .Thank you Kevin Grey, for dying, and giving space for Hugh Panaro, to become my most favorite phantom ever !! ! !!

@@Chihuahuauno1 That is fucking disrespectful. Kevin sounds beautiful in audios; this video doesn’t do justice on his voice. In case you didn’t know; back then this song was always sung more softly and slowly as a way of trying to covey his “ghostly” sound. Do your research before commenting something so shitty.

It's funny - a LOT of what I love about Gray's Phantom is exactly what I love about Crawford's Phantom. They do a LOT of emoting and a much more...uhh, ghostly(?) inflection vs. like "standard leading man" singing. They're both super expressive with hand & body language and both have been gently critiqued for Big Acting (tm).
But I guess that's how I LIKE my Phantoms.
You obviously know he's just a man, but until the veneer slips in Act II, you buy into the same spell Christine is under - that he's something otherworldly.

My father in law Dr. George Weigle was Kevin’s high school music teacher, staples h.s. Westport, CT. I meet the “fantom” back stage, broadway, out side Pink Floyd, best music I ever heard

The way he gently leads him to the mirror and then freaks out when he passes out ❤️
