The scene in this movie where the father bought a tiny piece of caramel and then sharing it with the rest of his family made me appreciate food even more.
Me too. But I grew up during wW2 when food was rationed and my mom was raising 4 kids alone. I remember only having a box of coco in the cupboard and a rare bit of sugar, no milk. Not much money or food or toys. The result? My cupboards are overstocked and I buy Christmas presents for the neighborhood little ones.
For me it was that scene when a woman drops a pot with soup on the street and a man starts hungrily to eat it. It was the moment that got me the most.
EmeraldCity you grew up in WW2???!?!? How old are you then ?!?!?
+Ally Luna I grew up in WW Zero. WW Zero was a prequel to the sequel of the prequels prequel from the first war. I am over aged.
If you watch the movie "Alive" you will also appreciate food more.
This Movie Teaches You The Value of Your Freedom, Your Privilege of Having Food to Eat, Water To Drink, Shelter To Protect Yourself, And Also The Value of Those Who Loves You
And also evil effects of poor leadership
I honestly didn't think they had it that bad then, looked cozy.
why is there a capital letter at each first letters of all the words
Amen
But Szpilman did not give a F about the officier who helped him!
One of the greatest movie i ever seen...
SKYWALKER SKYWALKER exactly
1000% agreed
Totally agreed 😍
I've* movies*
🧢
Fun fact. Our family's from Warsaw. When this movie came out, my dad was really impressed. "Look, finally an actual GOOD movie about war" (he was born in 1954), he said to his mother, and took her to the cinema. After the movie ended, she told him "Now multiply that by three and you might get the image of war".
It must feel different to be in the war vs just to watch a brief summary. Bless your grandma, hope that you could chat with her more to learn from the past.
The scene where he tried to save the little boy under the wall but couldn't.....😭 so sad!
I know. It's scene that's still too hard to watch. You just can't help but to cry along with them.
But How did He die and What was the boy doing under the Wall?
HB 33 he was trying to sneak food through from the German side of the wall but was caught. The guard started beating him to death
Yeah, such a touching scene
Why would u spoil it? I hope both sides of ur pillow is warm.
Just saw the film today and I can say that it was easily one of the best films that I have ever seen. I was holding out for him but there were so many times I expected he'd die that I thought this was fictional but the fact that this was based on a true story and this was a real person who had survived all this really makes this all the more amazing.
Stop ruining it for us who haven't seen it
@@Danny-ju2ip - I've seen this move about 10 times and always enjoy it. It is worth watching.
You just ruined it. 😒
@@mepulley7913still, rewatching it is not the same experience as watching it for the first time.
I cried when the war ended and he tried to hug someone but he was mistaken for a German and they tried to shoot him😭😭😭
Joyce LEE that a funny moment though
Yug Hang not really
the war wasn't over. Warsaw had just been liberated
Joyce me too! I thought he was gonna die!
Plorth but the car who drived with poland national anthem and poland flag was the meaning of one thing - germans are gone
Old man in wheelchair scene broke me... There is only angry, sad & fear while watching that scene.
that was effin terrible
I was shocked
@@anaiscodreanu6176 Unfortunately, this movie is based on reality. All of us should know what happened there, and see what is fascism and nazism, so that history does not repeat itself. However, I think that scene was the hardest to watch. so don't worry, you can do this. But I'm almost sure you're gonna cry, just saying.
Yeah, it’s heartbreaking. That scene just reminds me what Zionist do nowadays to the Palestinians ppl
I immediately realized the horrific sin they were about to commit yet had to wait some of the longest few seconds to watch this happen in front of my eyes...
It was hard just to watch this movie. Imagine how hard was for those people who lived these times
I cant watch it twice. The kind of sadness i cant handle
In my humble opinion Adrien Brody is one of the greatest actors ever. He needs to make more drama films. I watch The Pianist lots and I always forget he isn't really Szpillman, whom I love. Good job Adrien and RIP SZPILLMAN...
EmeraldCity sddfk
I wish he made more movies like this
He is simply acting, Roman Polanski is the one who directed. Adrien did not make this film. But yes he acted very well.
Hes great in the peaky blinders series as well
He was also great in the village as the mentally stunned guy.
this movie is a masterpiece, the actor is incredible, he plays the perfection. this film made me realize even more how hard was this part of history. it made me cry more than once. beautiful, i will never get over it.
in the USSR things were the same and much worse. Read more about GULAG.

I like how the trailer is nothing like the movie. The movie is so non cinematic that it makes you feel like you're actually there.
Exactly this! I can't find enough other movies that are made in this fashion. Do you have suggestions?
after seeing this movie, I was horrified and haunted for a week. So realistic and heart touching movie I didn't expected in a 2 to 3 hrs movie. This movie is excessively great movie.
Movie realistic as this is quite rare nowadays
I don't know but Taiwanese' Mandarin drama sort of going to realistic direction than their old school bloody hell dragging dramatic plots.
I watched Taiwanese drama 'Best Interest' 最佳利益 season 1, it's so damn realistic =O
(By the way there is season 2 and I haven't watch them yet hehe)
It's one of the best dramas that I have ever see too
I cried when the German guy died just because he couldnt hear his name. 😩😩
German people was cruel to Polish people every time in our history
@@karpwwannie7913 not all of them in WW2
IRL, Szpilman learned of the German officer's name and tried very hard to have him released, but his efforts were to no avail
FEROZSS I know right:(
karp w wannie dont talk if you dont watched the movie :)))))
I can’t believe I watched this movie today, March 7th 2020, god damn I’m so late.
Better late than never, I will watch tonight 😬😬
Watching right now 🙌
Just finished watching it
oh don’t worry, i watched it for the first time last night. it’s a very emotional film:(

Just watch the rest of the movie. Cried when the jew played the piano for the german. This is by far my favorite movie.
His nationality is Polish.
@@abdullahchhab2325 So? He's still jewish
@@morfe9073 Probably but the commenter mentioned Jew and German as if they were the same category.
Lmao wtf do u mean?
@@niki7411 He means because being jewish is a religion and being german is a nationality so he’s saying polish is his nationality. The person before compared a nationality to a religion rather a nationality to a nationality. Hope this helps!
I feel so bad for the german high ranked officer who helped Szpilman.
the way he died
That really happened too..he helped him out...it made him sad im sure, that he couldnt repay the favor
He was a teacher and christian. Search for him.
I had similar thoughts. Then I remembered he was complicit in the systematic murder of millions of innocents. One good deed doesn't outweigh his wretched ones.
Minien LOl that’s like saying everyone in American is an orange ball of fury
I've been meaning to watch this movie for a long time, and now I'm looking forward to it ever more since I realised that Adrien Brody is the same actor who plays Luca Changretta in Peaky Blinders. What an actor!
Same situation as u mate hahaha
OMG SAME HAHA
I was like i saw this guy before and then i saw your comment i was like ohh yeahhh its luca changretta from pealy blinders. 👀👀👀👀
@@hoorainbaig3172 I know him from King Kong 2005
Bruh Im exactly the same!
Start with piano ends with piano.... what a classic
I'm damn scared..feels like history is trying to repeat itself.....:(
You are right, you've seen that so good! But we well get there with people like you who see things...
If so, no one gonna survive.
I'm terrified. Please tell me how.
I think so. When i saw the scenes about marking the jews, i thought about future.
Ofcourse futur will repeat itself
This was the only movie I ever watched where I sobbed so hard I had to pause the movie and considered not finishing it... But I did, as hard as it was to watch. What incredible acting, and what a horrifying, important story to tell
Roni.... All I can say is - You have a kind ❤️ 😊
Very much so @roni. I wished more people that don’t know the history and the true stories, watch and learn from this!❤
Yeah ✨
Adrien brody with his method acting took it very far he showed his passion for the movie such an amazing actor
“Don’t thank me, thank god.
Carlos The Gamer tiu missed “ in the end
god never told to play music
I cried so much during the piano playing part. I myself am a pianist and I can’t imagine not playing the piano for so long and having to go through all of that.
Just watched this film for the first time today since I have been trying to learn more about the Holocaust. You really feel for the people of that time seeing it all unfold in this film. There is a Jewish museum here in Sydney and they are having a survivor from the Holocaust come in and speak. I think I will go. Even having survived all that you would be traumatised for the rest of your life, and so empty when all your family and friends have died. It's unbelievable to think this happened less than a hundred years ago....
Thank you.
I agree. Been studying about the Holocaust too the 2nd worst genocide in history. Can't believe as well that it happened less than a hundred years ago and the brutality was so savage not even cavemen could slaughter people like that.
@@pumpkindiamond994 2nd worst???
I am always rehearsing to rewatch this movie but I still haven't recovered from the first watch and don't think I am ready for such an amount of pain and tears again.
I cried a lot on this movie it makes me realise how blessed I am with my family 👪
What a film...no words...RIP to those who died in the war...
This movie is life changing. I was even more shocked when I read Vladek Spilman's book. It was more incredible then the movie in terms of how many close calls he had with death. That being said the movie is very faithful rendition.
What’s sad is they didn’t know they were being sent to a consecration camp. Until the main character had a friend who was working as a soldier and he pulled him out of the line and saved his life
One of the most beautiful movie I've ever seen. It's a masterpiece. 😭❤️
As per your dp 😍😍😍
The entire movie had me near tears but when the German soldier was kind to him it broke the well. I want to believe people are good
he was not a soldier, he was a captain. And before that a teacher.!!
Captain Wilm Hosenfeld

THis is the best and the saddest movie I ever watched. I feel overemotional just when watching the movie trailer.
I didn't see it as intense . Good nonetheless ...
I hardly ever cry, but i dropped few tears while watching. Powerfull and sad masterpiece
One of the most difficult I've ever watched. It took me 3 times to actually complete this movie. I could put myself on lead actor's shoe and it was hard to see what he was going through. His acting was so mind-blowing. Amazing movie.
Not a piano movie I was expecting. But my oh my . I was warned before I watched this movie. Really moving. I am a pianist myself so this movie hits different
This is based on a real story. The pianist is Władysław Szpilman, you can find his real recordings. The officer who saved him was Wilm Hosenfeld who saved a number of people.
This movie was so touching, the ending made me cry.
I watched this after I left Syria. What a great movie! And what a sad world we are living in!
Adrian Broody was the perfect man for this role. I cant believe an actor like him exists.
Just one word:
Masterpiece
The genius of Roman Polanski. Amazing film, with incredible acting
RIP and long live Władysław Szpilman (December 5, 1911 - July 6, 2000), aged 88
You will always be remembered as a legend.
I just watched this movie and by all measures it is simply a masterpiece. Actors, producers and directors of this real life drama should be awarded a life time achievement award for their outstanding performance. Keep doing the good work
Just saw a video of a little Ukrainian boy playing the piano as Russia invades and it reminded me of this movie. Praying for Ukraine 💔🇺🇦
Schindler list and pianist are amongst my favorites.
Dla mnie to klasyka filmowa jaką jeszcze po latach będą oglądać i podziwiać następne pokolenia. Wystarczy ten film raz zobaczyć a wpisuje się w serce i pamięć na zawsze.
This movie definitely increased my appreciation for food, life, freedom and peace.

This movie was a masterpiece, man. Unforgettable.
And made by a pea dough
@@SundaeExpress yeah that dude is messed up. I'm glad I didn't know that when I first saw this movie.
@@TheDude69 Does it matter? The characters in the movie were real people, their story should matter regardless of who brought it to the wider audience. The work of actors matters too. In terms of Polansky, there were many great artists, even greater than Polansky, who were terrible people.
The art and his talent saved his life
I watched this movie for the first time today..It is the greatest war movie i have ever seen..Best performance by *Adrien Brody* and other actors..💖
The war and survival of jews scenes were really emotional and they had efforts put in them..Every scene is perfectly portrayed by Adrien Brody..
I loved the whole movie..And at the end of the movie, knowing that it was based on a true story of Polish Pianist i really appreciate the *real Szpilman's efforts for survival in the war times* ..
But i do feel bad for the German high ranked officer who saved Szpilman but at the end he couldn't be saved (in real life) just because the man didn't heard his name..😥
I remember watching this movie back during my sophomore year of high school. My history teacher played it for us after we covered the ww2 lesson. Out of all the movies I watched that year this is the one that stuck to me the most. I’m thinking about watching it again.
It's the best movie of the decade, so emotional😟so real🥺🥺🥺
When he air played the piano 🥺
I would argue that this is the greatest movie ever made about the Holocaust
@Hrishikesh M K Look up Schindler’s List vs. The Pianist on Quora. It talks about the reasons why The Pianist is the better movie better than I can

A very accurate portrayal of WW Poland.Spectacular.
They showed us this film in school today..
Man.. have i never seen a more disturbing movie than this one in my life...
Finally a trailer that doesn’t spoil the entire movie expect I already seen this more than 4 times

i cried when the german captain didnt kill him. he just sits there and listen to him playing the piano
The Captain died in a Russian POW camp in the 1950s, despite efforts on behalf of "Spielman" to get him out.

I watched the move 4 to 5 times and it never gets boring. Very good masterpiece.
Everyone should see this movie at least once in their life
This movie will teach you lots of things about humans, war, and survival, truly a masterpiece. And his acting just terrific guys, u will feel the moments.

Very high quality movie. In my personal taste best movie of this century so far. Adrien Brodys act on this movie is beyond extraordinary. Well deserved Oscar. I will remember this movie a long time, Such a masterpiece.
This movie is both about the worst and the best in humanity. Very touching. I could barely believe the victory of human kindness over evil when the German officer invited him to play the piano. "Who saves one live saves the world entire".
Done watching this on Netflix.. I feel sorry for the German Captain who save him...
So many scenes that hit me so hard... No more war like this please...
No more wars at all!!!!, please read "war is a racket" by general butler and get back to me
Haha u wrote this 5 years ago lol look at the war with Russian , Ukraine
I cry for the entire movie, i can't-
The fact that this made me very grateful for the things i have is so wholesome.... I appreciate it more

I think of the scene, all alone for days and days, starving. And I think of all the balagan going on right now regarding covid-19. People complaining about limitations all the time. Get your staff together. This is nothing compared to WW2.
