'The rumors of my existence are greatly exaggerated'
-Alan Smithee
Mr. Smithee, we will gladly leave you alone in order to have restraining orders filed against us lol. 😆
Alan Smithee did a great job directing this video. Glad to see he's still in the business.
No lol, Alan Smithee "retired" back in the early 2000s, so maybe he's living happily as a recluse.
Maybe a Lifetime Achievement award is what he should get? Not many Directors can boast of such a diverse portfolio after all.
But the casting couch is real, I've seen it! During my research..
Agreed after "results"
legend has it that it was weinsteins favorite content lol
dunno, guess I'll have to do some thorough reasearch to find out if there's any truth to this statement :-D
Looks like it was too small for you, right ?
What colour, and fabric is it?
"Hollywood's most famous director doesn't exist" is the original title...
"Hollywood's Most Popular Director Doesn't Exist" at the moment

Yeah I remember it from the 5 seconds it existed
DAYE IS A BOT PLEASE TELL AND REPORT SPAM
But he was correct to change it. As most of us haven't heard of him, so famous doesn't fit. 🤗
What I expected when I saw the title: I'll learn something new about Alan Smithee!
What I did not expect at all ever: The phrase "just the tip" will now traumatize me every time I hear it!

I worked in the film industry for almost 20 years and I knew everything you present it except for the fact that the dog was nominated for an Oscar. That is brilliant. Hollywood is full of a bunch of fools.
I wish the dog had won. That would have made the best awards show ever.
I work in the industry too, and I'm shocked that no one in my area has ever heard of Allen Smithee.
A dog won Britans got talent once. -_-
2020: Directed by Alan Smithee.
Finally something you will never forget!
sad but true, you win
That was some reality show.

Good point, but request denied.......
Let's not let those responsible hide behind Alan's direction, They deserve ALL of the credit and should be awarded accordingly!!!

From the moment you talked about closing a car door on the "Tip", that is all I was thinking till the end LOL
"what's the meaning of life?"
"42!"
~Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy 😁
Life, the Universe and Everything.
I'm going to be "that guy". You know, the "umm, actually..." guy. Mostly because I rather enjoy the hidden joke in the whole thing.
42 is technically the Ultimate Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. But since nobody knows what the Ultimate Question actually is, the Ultimate Answer on its own is meaningless.
However, I like the hidden joke that I have seen very few people notice (though as I recall, Adams himself never confirmed any theory to its meaning to be true). In computers, the most common chart for the binary representation of characters is ASCII. In ASCII, the number 42 comes out an asterisk. And, an asterisk is typically a wildcard in searches that matches anything and everything when on its own. So it could be said that the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything is... whatever you want that asterisk to mean. "Life is what you make it."
46+42. Tool.
@@ApeironTsuka Uh, no. That's really reaching. I'm pretty sure it doesn't mean anything, and that's more likely the deeper meaning, if there is any, that life is a meaningless mystery. And with people trying to figure out what it means to this day, one coul infer that it means life is what you make it, the meaning is the meaning you give it. I'm almost certain that it doesn't have an actual answer as, like you said, no one knows the question.

I'm surprised that Star Wars ep8 "The Last Jedi" trash isn't under Alan Smithee.

Last Jedi = Bad
Must make meme telling Last Jedi Bad.
@@stefan6347 that’s correct! You’re learning!
As season 8 of Game of Thrones
I'd argue "Rise of Skywalker" is even worse. At least "The Last Jedi" had original ideas, even if they were horrible, and it had an actual plot. ROS was just a mess, and made zero sense. Somehow Palatine has returned." That line alone, in my mind, makes it one of the worst films of all time. It reminds me of " Misery" when she was complaining about the chapter serials cheating the audience.
I'm 55 and been heavily into film my entire life, so have heard of Alan Smithee quite a bit throughout the years... That said, this is the most inclusive breakdown of the 'man' I've ever heard! Lots of new info to me in this piece! KUDOS! great work, Thoughty! ;)

Heat and American History X are both absolutely amazing, 2 of the best 20 movies ever made imo, really didnt expect to see those titles in this haha
Well... it has nothing to do with the film being good or bad. Only directors, who were not able to "direct" the movie as they envisioned, can request an Alias to take the credit, and they have to get an approval from the guild.
@@siamsurf I watched the video mate I'm well aware of that. Most directors would give their left nut to have their names associated with those movies

Thomas Lee and Alan Smithee are virtually anagrams of each other. I have a feeling they're both derived from the same phrase, I'm guessing it's Latin.🤔
You are correct. The Roman director who was chosen to document the life of Julius Caesar is quoted as saying, "Veni, vidi, smithee."
I think Smithee deserves a Lifetimes achievement award/Oscar.
Well shit, it's actually pretty comforting to know that if I ever make any art that I'm ashamed of I can just change the name of the credits to "Alan Smithee" and be rid of it hahaha

Whoa, they took that much out of that amazing film “Heat”? One of my all time favorite films, DeNiro, and Pacino, Kilmer, and a helluva host of supporting cast members and they cut out so much that Mann was pissed?? I can only imagine what an epic film it would have been. And now that I think about it, while watching it, many times during the film, there were very obvious editing snafus. I never really questioned why, but I now know. That burns me to the core.
