If you have bedrooms ready, invite volunteers at the work-away site. You provide room and food. They do the work. You can even ask for specific skill sets, as needed. Plus, the guests/volunteers can use free time to see other parts of the country. It's a win/win.

I too like that idea. 😊 But do they have any place for them to stay yet that is "ready". So far it does not look that way.

Love your garden, what an inspiration! I like the rustic look of the rocks in front of the herbs and espalier and I think you’re right about needing an irrigation system in the future. For some plants/veggies it’s best to do drip irrigation rather than overhead. I realize I am watching videos from 2 years ago and maybe you’ve already got your irrigation system in. I wanted to start from the beginning of your journey so I am binge watching. You are doing an amazing job!

I have another trick against moles. Dig an empty wine bottle in the grass so that 2 cm is above the surface, when the wind blows, the sound propagates, which they do not like. I myself have a lawnmower robot, they do not like it either.
    Greetings

Love your vlogs. Your veg garden is gorgeous, you are doing a brilliant job. It looks very tidy. Bed edges are my nemesis. I have a big veg garden. Too big for me to manage all of it. So on one 100m2 part of it I put heavy duty landscaping fabric over a large grassy area in the Autumn and then cut holes in it and plant my cucurbits in it. No weeds and good water retention, plus it warms the soil and keeps the fruits off the soil. It works really well. This will be my 4 th year of leaving it down in place and using the same holes ( about 20 holes) . I feed the holes with compost and pelleted manure in the Autumn. I get huge harvests of squash, pumpkin, peppers, cucumbers, courgette , melon, aubergine on about 100m2 covered in landscaping fabric. You could do the same and maybe do it in squares to match your beds. I grow organically, just feed with seaweed feed. The squash keep so well and feed us all winter and Spring. I make soup and freeze it. I just don’t think they grow very well in pots, too hungry, too thirsty.I use loads of mint like you too. Love in courgette soup. Have you tried Tuscan Kale, cavalo nero. It’s really good and looks amazing, stands all winter. I put my potatoes in last week, not up yet. Love your orchard it looks beautiful. We made an asparagus bed last year with three year old crowns, left it last year and harvesting this year. We have just put 20 more crowns in, green asparagus. Just needs weeding and watering and you can harvest for years. Todays lunch will be poached eggs from the girls on toast with chard and asparagus. Good luck with your carrots. Xx

Are you going to plant some young new apple trees? I grew up with every kind of fruit tree in my back yard. My mom and dad were raised on farms so they planted gardens like you are doing and we ate very well because of that I have always been healthy and my completion has been beautiful. Once when I was having a facial the woman told me I must have been raised on fresh vegetables my face told the story!

Go to the thrift store and find you a white, 100% cotton mens dress shirt and you won’t be so hot. The black material absorbs the sun while the white will reflect it. I just roll up the sleeves and I’m good to go. TTFN

Beautiful garden! Some crops benefit of being started in trays, so when transplanted you have few leaves and a root system started. Each seedling has a distinctive first set of leaves, so it is easy to recognize from the weeds. With dried leaves and grass, you have the components for compost. With a lawnmower with a catcher, you'll have plenty of compost in time

Lovely garden! As far as your moles are concerned, I have tips. Put coffee grounds into the holes. (Coffee is acidic though, so use carefully.) Moles don’t like the scent. And they really don’t like the smell of castor oil. I also used empty bottles put into the soil at an angle. The wind passing over the open mouth causes vibrations that moles find unpleasant. I don’t know which one was effective in the end because I used all three at once with great success.

If I may suggest, soil is vital for all plants. Yours by the walls needs nourishment in every way before any planting. Start a good compost heap, buy some decent compost or topsoil if anything is to benefit. Top dress existing plants. The rose looks fine, it is the new growth, again top dress after a good soak. Chicken manure can be purchased as a feed for all plants generally, I also give a seeweed food in water for my precious stuff to boost them. Hope this helps

I think your potatoes are a bit close together, the soil needs to be be ridged up above them to keep light from the tubers or they will go green

I usually mound the soil up after they start growing...

Edge your garden with Euphorbias. They look pretty and have shallow roots that deter moles.

Don't feel bad. I live in Florida. I cover up like you do to do the yard work. I look like the men that come once a week to mow. I don't want the sun to ruin my skin either. I came here when I was 53. Now I am 75.

You need to make seed tape using strip's of toilet paper, especially for the small seeds like carrots etc.

Check out the channel “ Garden Answer” for inspiration.
They use well water and installs frost free faucets, use Hoselink retractable hose reel. They have set up drip irrigation on their new property. There are detailed videos on it.

My mom n grandma always planted borders of marigolds around beds and everywhere else they could possibly put them. They said the moles hate the smell of them. I lost all my lariope (spelled correctly I hope ?) borders to moles last year .

Oh my - I'd need a truck full of marigolds!! I'll try some in the worst beds. They're so annoying :(

@@OurFrenchChateau yes they are ! I had let my lariope build up into a huge mass and finally kast year separated into about fifty plants . Planted them watered them and within days Mole's had migrated into the area and eaten every one . They must have smelled them from hundreds of feet away because I had no idea they were around 😂😳🤬 Gotta love mother nature ❣️

FEED CORN tastes so different from SWEET CORN. Please consider ordering sweet corn. Even the texture is a bit different. QUESTION: Is there such a thing as a mole garden? I would imagine if they have a place to just do what moles do, that would keep them away from your plantings.

    • @OurFrenchChateau
      @OurFrenchChateau  2 года назад

Yes, we're planting sweet corn. Unfortunately I think moles have a mind of their own!

I use any recipe that calls for Spinach. I also bruise it first with olive oil then proceed to make as I would any lettuce salad. More flavor and nutrients than lettuce.
