I must agree with others.....49 shades of gray had its decade of vogue. Now we're back in the comforting earth tones trend; using pops of color and texture to excite and inspire. Having said that..... not only is the wall color the blank canvas of the room, you have several other rooms decorated differently. This in not one half of a two room cottage. Each guest room is meant to have a different atmosphere. I'm confident the room is going to look, feel, and smell amazing 🙀! But if it were me, which it is not, I would have embraced the green, added a bit of gold gilding, and pale yellow for the walls. Perhaps trompe l'oeil molding or paneling on the walls above the wood paneling. You could put out to the universe you seek an art student who needs to paint and record examples of trompe l'oeil as part of his/her/their studies. Trompe l'oeil paneling/molding is not that difficult once the technique has been achieved. However, if the artist has not quite mastered the technique, you will be painting over their failed attempt once you hear his/her/their departure down your allée bordée d'arbres progressing.
The only way to save the mattress foundations is to remove and sanitize the fabric, replace the straw, and sanitize the wood to kill smelly mold, mildew, and bacteria. Sure they're over a century old, but a lot of things are. Not everything is worth saving in it original form. I say toss them out the window and disassemble the crushed remains to harvest fun bit for other projects.
    Cheers!

These box springs last forever. Proof is. The straw is for the noise and the humidity. You missed the horse hair on top between the two layers of coutil. That material also last forever and can be salvaged and cleaned to be recycled for the stuffing when old furniture are reupholstered since it is so expensive. These box springs were designed specifically for wool mattresses. Their dome effect was to counteract the sagging of compressed wool in the mattresses. You might have considered keeping the frame and have them reupholstered (once cleaned) in the "tapissier" manner since no antique bed has the same dimension and modern box springs don't always fit well.

Loved the video - we have similar beds in our house in the Provence and had a real pain of a time finding mattresses to fit. Ours are 2m long but as box springs in a custom design were out of the question, we used the wooden mattress supports (similar to what you already have - the slats) and trimmed the sides to size. The mattresses fit in nice and snug and look great. Still, 187 is pretty short. It would be easy to make new side supports for them as you're painting them anyway and make them 2m long. Good luck!

Love the black...just a little suggestion before you repaint it all in sage green. I am besotted with light sage green as well. My friend painted the same colour combo in her large family room area and her husband who is a car paint detailer painted thin white lines or frames around the wainscoting edgings which just made them 'POP!!. My friend suggested before you repaint the black you could stick on thin strips of white masking tape in a small area to see what a white detail on the black would look like. The husband did experiment a bit with painting the beading...they were very pleased with the result. They have polished concrete floors with a large cream carpet square in that room.

Yes, you can get the musty smell out. You can use something like Febreeze (or some equivalent you might find in France) and keep spraying every few days, while letting it dry in between until the odor's gone. Or you might try making a 50/50 spray solution of white vinegar and water. If possible spray outside, then let them dry in the sunshine. Either way may take several spraying sessions but it's worth a try if you want to salvage them.

I second someone else's suggestion to measure the beds before disposing of the old box springs. I also have antique beds and have had to get the box springs and mattresses custom built (ka-ching!) If the box springs are musty, that is just fabric (and probably straw!) which is the easy part to replace. I assume the straw was to silence squeaky springs. Can't wait to see the finished rooms; your plans sound like the results will be elegant.

I love your Mother's Triumph! Also, thought it was amusing when Linc drove it off and every wheel turn was a squeak, squeak. But what a car! I had more than one friend with one, and being a convertible, when I was growing up-a teenage girl was ga-ga over them-me! And still... My fabulous Uncle had a black Jaguar before he married and he let all the nieces and nephews have a "thrill ride" in it--this was some time ago. We had a blast. I remember it to this day! I have somehow missed the name of your Chateau and it is becoming difficult to find, for me, among quite a few numbers of French Chateau's bought by a person from the UK or America, etc. I believe the when Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adore came out with their televised Chateau experience, that was one but way that people found out the number of abandoned and for sale Chateau's in France. To have the desire, the youth, the energy and the creativity and adventuresome nature's to take them on though is quite another thing! This is something I absolutely would have attempted, "back in the day." This type of thing is right up my allele (see what I did there?) but I have no reservations about how much really hard work, decision making and active carrying out all the projects and plans. And to be ready for almost, literally everything that gets thrown one's way! And of course, the wherewithal monetarily to do it correctly. A family who does this together, I feel, is blessed indeed and I hope it goes as planned! You said you had guests coming in July-It's JULY! I cannot find everything on here about you all but you are the one's I have chosen to follow because of your family, the way you both go "after" projects, the sense of humor and donkeys saved! I will tell you that one of my friends with horses has to keep one of two animas around her, as she needs that. They all do. She had a big old mule, Kate. Mule's have a smell to their urine that the coyotes around here will NOT come near them! I know there are wolves n France. A mule is a "good thing"- they are strong and live long. After she ended up with only one horse now, she had a donkey and then added Kate- because they were going o slaughter her! My friend would not let that happen! Bless yo both for your rescues! Best wishes and when you have a moment- please assist this forgetful fan the name of your Chateau, although I do not want to bother you- but I'm not very good yet with keeping my writing to a more moderate size.
For that, I apologize. I am trying to find a "middle-ground" to get on and stay on--since the death of my-our daughter, I am going either 1000 mph or am at STOP. It was not Covid, but it was illnesses she did nothing to "get." Blessings to all and more joy de vivre! Thanx! :). Terri from SC in USA

Great work with good taste I must say. Any chance if restoring the original matresses? They are antique!?. I think shiney black paint for the beds would be great....giving them a laquer effect... also nutral giving a larger scope for different bedding colours....just brainstorming🤣🤣Awesome car your mother used to drive!! Love your videos and thank you for sharing🌺

I would dismantle them and throw them out the window, stinky beds are no good for anyone and youve documented the interesting part on film.Talking about the old bed frames.

Just watched a ‘Sadie in France’ vlog and she used an amazing product for removing wallpaper. You may want to check it out as I’m sure you will have use for it in the future. Love the colours you have chosen!

I’ve seen planters made from mattress springs. Look on Pinterest for various ideas.

An easy wallpaper remover is a 1/3 mixture of liquid fabric softener to 2/3 water. Can Mrs off like butter. I used a big spray container with spray nozzle wand.

NOT to take anything away from your previous Vlogs but this may be my favorite so far. Guest Bedroom Number 1 color palette, fresh, understated and elegant. And those beds painted black? YES! As for y'all cruising along in the Triumph on a beautiful French day - again YES! The ONLY thing that would have made this Vlog any better for me would have been all the furries making an appearance. BUT you can't have everything. Merci!

Hi ya, really enjoying your channel, you my like to try a zinsser paper Tiger scoring tool to remove wallpaper easier, it leaves tiny holes in the wallpaper for the steam to penetrate makes wallpaper removal so much easier.
Im currently working my way through your journey from episode 1 to this one, keep up the good work.

You might want to check the sizes of the bed frames with the different sizes of the mattresses I found an antique bed frame two twins that was exactly alike and I hooked them together which made it a one great big huge king size bed

The room will probably be wonderful, but so far you paint things black or dark colors . Not my favorite colors, but it's your house and I admire your energy and love for painting.

Hello and I love watching your video's! Just a question...are the twin beds going to be for children, because a normal sized adult will probably not fit on them!
Bon courage for all the work!! :)

Thanks Linda - a tall person will not fit. Average height people or animals will ;)
