I've listen to a lot of the original songs Al's parodied over the years and there's just something better about most of his versions that the original songs lack. That doesn't detract from them, it's just you get a different feeling from them. For instance, his song "Germs" is done in a style of Nine Inch Nails, but sounds better than the pieces of those songs he's borrowing inspiration from. That's subjective, of course, but it's also one of the reasons Al stays popular and relevant while bands come and go.
Many people would argue that Al's "Amish Paradise" sounds significantly better than Coolio's version even without the parody aspect. It could be the way Al sings, the tone of his voice, or even the subject matter of his songs.

They use to be. I remember when I was younger I heard his song on the radio for the first time and fell in love. I believe it was "Eat It" or "Fat" it was a parody of a Michael Jackson song, but I was like "This is too funny, I want to hear more" and so I did, I got a "Bad Hair Day" cassette tape from my uncle and never looked back. He should have his own radio station, all Weird Al all the time.

Weird Al's voice is amazing in this song. (I've said this before, but I'm convinced that one of the reasons he's lasted so long is that he has a damn good singing voice in addition to being a brilliant lyricist and musician)
He can also hold a note amazingly long. That long note at the end of the theme for Spy Hard was supposed to be looped, but Al decided to try doing it first - and he could and did!
He's also very flexible.

My kids asked me about tattoos when they were young teens. I told them I had wanted numerous tattoos as I grew up but now I’m grateful I have none of them. My children are now grown and have no tattoos thankfully!

This song is too great, it has a great beat all the way through (especially at 1:35). It doesn't take away from the original. Both great but, I love this one a lot better because it is funny and matches the beat better.
