@@gilly_axolotl I was thinking the same thing. I think if anyone recognized Daniel in Potter gear, their first reaction would be "nah, that can't be him".
I greatly admire Al and Daniel, Al being so talented musically, Daniel a seemingly unspoiled child star, also very talented, perhaps not on the accordion, but for me for one, that is a huge relief.
I remember seeing Weird Al on 'spicks & specks', an Aussie music quiz show back in the 2000s. He was so freaking good at 'substitute', where you had to sing a well known song but substitute the lyrics with text from a random book. Not a huge surprise that he was good, but he was CRAZY good.
I got to play live with him... as a busker outside of the WA State Fair where he was playing inside, I was outside playing along. He doesn't know it, but I do. I've played with dozens of great bands and performers, and Al is a much better musician than he's giving credit for. It was an honor to play along.
What a great duo! I remember spending WEEKS trying to sing along Al's "Hardware Store", to mediocre results. That man is a word magician, rivaled only by Eminem. My favorite parody of his has to be White & Nerdy. It's better than the original! And Daniel, what a class act he is. Always a pleasure in an interview. I bet he's fun to work with also. He's held many good roles since Harry Potter, but the character will always stay with him, like Indiana Jones for Harrison Ford. Especially since he's decided to never age... It's the price of success!
Weird Al is an absolute musical genius and the film was freakin entertaining... Best artist parody film since Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Kudos to Daniel and everyone involved.
I've had the pleasure of meeting Al twice and he was just such a genuine, down-to-earth person. He deserves all the good things that come to him! I'm really looking forward to seeing the film.
I still remember in 1990 when i was 10, my mom got me in to meet Weird Al while his hairdresser was getting him ready for a show backstage. He wackily spun around in his chair, and acted like he was so happy to see me, then signed a personalized autograph. Talk about a super nice guy.
Weird Al and The Radcliffe Entity are both absolute legends and I sincerely hope that this co-operative effort of theirs finishes what Walk Hard started, and finally drives a stake through the heart of the entire genre of the paint-by-numbers celebrity musician biopic, as Airplane! once did for the aircraft disaster genre. I am definitely going to watch this movie.
What I love about Weird Al. Is he is himself truly 100%… and I kinda had a hard time with that growing up. Ppl used to call me weird and strange and I can kinda connect with Weird Al bcuz he embraces that part of himself! It’s really helpful to a lot of us who have struggled with self confidence!
@@bluebubblegum88 It's not really about Tom Hanks, but yes, he pleads to Kim Jong Un to not blow us up because it would kill Tom Hanks, and who doesn't love Tom Hanks?
I heard him for the first time after Smells Like Nirvana came out and I've been listening to his music ever since. I brought my kids to his concert when they were two and three years old, and they still listen to him now.
I loooooooove Al so much. He is such a lovely person that truly engages with the people he interacts with. There's nothing disingenuous about him at all and you can just tell as you watch and listen to him. Daniel is just the same!
Absolutely. People sleep on him because he’s a comedy musician but part of why he’s so successful is because he’s a genuinely great musician who can work in any genre. He uses a comedy voice when he sings because, comedy, but you can tell the dude can really sing too.
Well, it's very understanding knowing there are many people who don't like to see parodies of their favourite songs, so, for them it's an offense and of course, they will not support this kind of music. You know, fanatism.
Weird Al was the first big concert of my life. Fowlerville Fair in Michigan, early 1990s, right after a figure 8 demolition derby. He is forever on my heart’s pedestal , and there is nobody quite like him! Can’t wait to see this new biopic
I took my daughters to see his concert, at the Washington Country fairgrounds, in Oregon. (They were five and nine, at the time.) They both loved it, even though they had no reference to the songs being parodied.
I can remember hearing Weird Al on The Doctor Demento show back in the early 1980s. I loved it but I knew that Weird Al was just a novelty act that would never last.
And his material has aged so much better than many other 80's comics such as Andrew Dice Clay, Bobcat Goldthwaite and Michael Winslow. Sometimes the songs are remembered more for Al's parodies than for the originals. Although I can't think of an example where that's true so I'm probably just too high to have a fully functioning brain. It's Sunday, I'm not religious. So I get high. I feel your judgement. It will justify me getting even higher. Thanks.
I have always loved Weird Al. Those fantastic Michael Jackson vids, and so many more. I am so happy he is now getting the larger appreciation he so deserves.
I did not expect to find this an instant hit IMO. Having Daniel play him was not someone I would have recommended, but it works perfectly. Everything in this comedy is a parody of reality and Al's life. There are some elements of truth from his past mixed in, though bent in a "weird" way, as expected. Characters are total opposites of their real life personas, situations exaggerated to great heights, logic out the window, etc. But it is the underlying parody element of famous movie scenes that make this a step up in Al's comedic styling. It's one thing to parody songs, but to do a Zucker Brothers approach in selecting well-known scenes from classic films, then making them part of the story with crazy dialog, though still staying truthful to the original scene emotions and acting (even with nearly the same music), is a stroke of genius. You feel the recognition of the scene, and can see it in your mind with the original actors (like Robert De Niro), but unless you know those movies by heart, it's difficult to remember what film the scene comes from. You just know it, which causes laughs at the absurdity of parody to that particular segment. Another amazing element was the incorporation of song lyrics into the dialog and using his various songs for story parts, like his father being Amish and creating the great "Amish Paradise" tune. It was also fun to see the various actor cameos playing famous movie personalities. Like Emo Philips as Salvador Dali, Conan O'Brien as Andy Warhol and Jack Black as Wolfman Jack. They were all perfect. I highly recommend this, even if you are not a huge fan of Al.
I had to laugh at Seth's story about hearing "Eat It" on the radio for the first time and thinking, "this changes everything," because I had the exact same experience except with "Like a Surgeon." My friends and I stopped what we were doing, stopped talking, and just listened. I still remember where we were standing on the playground with a 1980s boom box when the song came on.
Met him back in the late 80s on the Vegas strip. I was with my friend Joe Castle, and we were attending the NAMM show, and we met outside the convention just walking around. We chatted, but since we were outside, we had nothing for him to sign and it was way before cellphones. He was a terrific guy, and rather tall. Since then, I've seen him a couple of times touring. He's just the best. And his full on Accordion solos are fantastic!
and in this interview he just said "We moved into a new building" and I'm like, Dude, buy a house! but maybe he was talking about London or something. Sounds like he owns a mansion in the LA area though
It was nice to watch some one talented in comedy who can truly appreciate the comedy of this film interview these two. Possibly Seth’s best interview. Can’t wait to see the film.
It really is a great movie. Radcliffe keeps showing his range, above and beyond the Potter phenomenon. I liked him quite a bit in "Horns," a fine flick with an interesting premise and a good plot with plenty of moving drama. I think Radcliffe is specially good at showing how a real person actually feels throughout all those challenging moments. Overwhelmed, confused, intense. In some movies he gets to do it in a serious way. In this one, he does it in a mix of serious and funny. Again, great range there. His "wtf" face is just up there. At a first glance, one may not SEE him as Weird Al. But when you give it a chance, it's clear they NAILED it. This movie is a treat for both newcomers and those who know Weird Al from way back. The over the top, silly, absurd, witty brand of humor he does, just never gets old. Whether Weird Al is new to you, or you pretty much expected such a level of crazy. It's one of my favorite kinds of humor, and I guess it shows xD I certainly expect a lot of surprised people out there, seeing as there's surely a generational gap since Weird Al is an '80s thing first. And Radcliffe attracts mostly younger people, even though the Potter phenomenon trascends generations. But I bet most of the newcomers got to enjoy it. In any case, it's a flick for everyone to have fun. You can totally see it in the cast, and they transmit it smoothly to the audience.
Weird Al is in my earliest memories of pop culture and he's still here and going strong. It's weird. His album, Mandatory Fun, killed it just a few years ago.
8:50 I never heard "Bob" before but now I must look it up. "Weird" Al's "White and Nerdy" and "It's All About the Pentiums, Baby" showcase just how good a rapper he is. I'm not even joking. It's amazing.

Seth has interviewed some of the most beautiful people and joked around with some of the funniest, but the only thing I've ever been envious of is him getting that hug from Weird Al.
As a kid in the 80’s, I use to love Weird Al’s parody songs cause they would make me smile, laugh, be happy.
I didn't know Weird Al had a show back in the 80s. It's currently on Tubi.
FYI: I’ve met each of these men and they are just as cool and friendly in real life as they are here. Both legends.
Story time! What happened?
A hand shake and autograph isn't enough to make that claim. It's not like you had dinner with them, and stayed their house for a week.
@@morbidmanmusic Why do you have to be a downer??
@@morbidmanmusic how would you know their level of interaction?
rhanks for the FYI. without you informing me that you met al and daniel i would not know that you met al and daniel. now i'm writing a screenplay about how cool you are.
Got my first Weird Al album in 1997, and my music teacher said she listened to him in the 80's in high school! You'd think he'd be much older! 🤯
he's in his 60s, he's just aged really well
“If I’m leaving the house, I’m not dressing as Harry Potter” Now I’m just imagining him wandering around his house in Potter gear 😂
Honestly it'd probably be a better disguise. Hide in plain sight
@@gilly_axolotl I was thinking the same thing. I think if anyone recognized Daniel in Potter gear, their first reaction would be "nah, that can't be him".
Weird Al is one of the only celebrities I have ever met in my life. I was around 19, it was like 1am in a Taco Bell in Michigan City, Indiana.
Here's the episode, if anyone wants to take a look: ruclips.net/video/FCO7Cj3z1G4/видео.html
I got to play live with him... as a busker outside of the WA State Fair where he was playing inside, I was outside playing along.
He doesn't know it, but I do.
I've played with dozens of great bands and performers, and Al is a much better musician than he's giving credit for.
It was an honor to play along.
Can we all agree that Daniel Ratcliffe and Weird Al are both national treasures?
from different nations tho 0_0
International treasures.
Daniel is British.
Agreed
Yes.
One of the BEST concerts I've EVER attended was with Weird Al Yankovic. SO much energy and FUN!
It's the price of success!
me in the car driving to Ace "goingyesi'mgoing-goinggoingtothe goin going to the haaaardware stooooore"
Don't forget Couch Potato!
Weird Al is an absolute musical genius and the film was freakin entertaining... Best artist parody film since Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Kudos to Daniel and everyone involved.
Couldn’t have done it any better. Huge Weird Al fan and Daniel killed it! Such a fun movie for the diehard fans and newbies. 😁
Radcliffe has done enough great movie roles after Harry Potter to be not recognized only as the Potter kid.
Turns out, he's a great comic actor...
If you had *only* ever appeared in Swiss Army Man, that would have been a successful career, instead he's done so much more.
He turned against the woman who made his career.
Disgusting 👹
@@madeleineprice9645 please elaborate. I have no idea what you're talking about.
@@dp7933 he spoke out against rowling's transphobic ideology bc he knows what the harry potter world means to so many lgbtq people
I've had the pleasure of meeting Al twice and he was just such a genuine, down-to-earth person. He deserves all the good things that come to him! I'm really looking forward to seeing the film.
This interview was pure good vibes! Now I wanna see the movie.
Love these two guys- you can tell they are both genuine, sincere people. Much respect!
6:40 they both nod at the same time, and in the same fashion. nice.
Daniel Radcliffe is really a wonderful actor who really makes bold acting choices. Can’t wait to watch this.
This is the only movie I've WANTED to see in years. What a weird concept.
That clip instantly made me want to see that movie!
Weird Al is a national treasure! Right up there with Tom Hanks
Trapped in the drive thru brings tears to my eyes. Al is the best
Omg he did a song about Tom Hanks on John Oliver!! 🤣🤣 if you haven't seen it, it's about north Korea and nukes. I highly recommend it 🤌🤌
@@bluebubblegum88 lolol that's great I had no idea!!
@@bluebubblegum88 It's not really about Tom Hanks, but yes, he pleads to Kim Jong Un to not blow us up because it would kill Tom Hanks, and who doesn't love Tom Hanks?
Wait… don’t you mean… Nicholas Cage? 😂 (sorry couldn’t help it…)
I heard him for the first time after Smells Like Nirvana came out and I've been listening to his music ever since. I brought my kids to his concert when they were two and three years old, and they still listen to him now.
I think I read somewhere that Dave Grhol said Kurt laughed his ass off at Weird Al's parody.
@@tempestates13 I've also heard they were happy and honored
I loooooooove Al so much. He is such a lovely person that truly engages with the people he interacts with. There's nothing disingenuous about him at all and you can just tell as you watch and listen to him. Daniel is just the same!
Weird Al is one of the most underrated music artists of all time!
Absolutely. People sleep on him because he’s a comedy musician but part of why he’s so successful is because he’s a genuinely great musician who can work in any genre. He uses a comedy voice when he sings because, comedy, but you can tell the dude can really sing too.
No he is a 5x Grammy winner how is that underrated.
Well, it's very understanding knowing there are many people who don't like to see parodies of their favourite songs, so, for them it's an offense and of course, they will not support this kind of music. You know, fanatism.
Absolutely fantastic. I am so glad these two found each other and decided to do a project together.
I think it's just amazing that Weird Al has reached the pinnacle of his career: becoming the former Harry Potter.
No. I understand what you're saying. And I love it. But Weird Al will always come first. Sorry.
Harry Potter just reached the pinnacle of his career
Not a big fan of biopics but growing up with Weird Al’s music makes it a must see movie for me.
Don’t worry. You’re gonna love it. I promise.
BOB IS ONE OF MY FAVES OMG
amazing interview. everyone seems genuinely excited to be apart of the conversation. Glad you are such a big fan Seth!
I'm so looking forward to seeing this movie! UHF has long been a favorite of mine, I trust Al with film, music, anything he touches turns to gold.
Thank you for making me smile this hard. All three of these people.
Weird Al is a gift from the heavens. His talent and unique sound is unparalleled. And I must add the same goes for Daniel.
Who doesn't love Weird Al?!? He is awesome!

Al’s enormous gesture at 0:56 is my favorite part of this whole clip lol - showed his vivacity, enthusiasm & warmth all at once ☺️
I can remember hearing Weird Al on The Doctor Demento show back in the early 1980s.
I loved it but I knew that Weird Al was just a novelty act that would never last.
How right you were, he just completely disappeared after those... days... wait...
Yep, he's no Stan Freberg
It's great just how long Weird Al has endured. He's like a comedy elder statesman.
Yes
And his material has aged so much better than many other 80's comics such as Andrew Dice Clay, Bobcat Goldthwaite and Michael Winslow.
Sometimes the songs are remembered more for Al's parodies than for the originals.
Although I can't think of an example where that's true so I'm probably just too high to have a fully functioning brain.
It's Sunday, I'm not religious. So I get high. I feel your judgement. It will justify me getting even higher. Thanks.
@@paulleverton9569 "I Lost on Jeopardy" is probably more well known than the original song it's parodying.
@@billyjackoff I don'r remember that one at all.
@@billyjackoff We older people know it ( "Our Love's in Jeopardy" was the original ).
This interview was so much fun. Al and Daniel seem to be the nicest people in their industries. I hope this does amazingly
Al is such a talented writer. The stuff he comes out with is both bonkers and brilliant! Word crimes is a current fave.
It's a fact that at least some of those dramatized bio movies will alter things from real life to make it more dramatic.
Daniel is looking good and seems happy with this project.
He's a talented dude with a lot more humour than we think (witty humour).
Keep it up, man.
I love this movie so much, this whole interview made me smile because I think you can tell how proud they each are gushing about the movie
He stayed true to himself all these years and didn't fall into the trappings of fame and wealth. It's really impressive.
Oh yeah, Al was a total mind blower to us 80s kids.
I never imagined I'd be excited about a Weird Al biopic but here I am.
Weird Al and Dan Radcliffe: Best combination since peanut butter and chocolate.
But also hazelnut and chocolate!
@@bearswithglasses But also, pretty much anything and chocolate!
Haven't ever watched a Seth Meyers interview before but the guy seems really cool and not fake like most late night hosts.
yeah i've never heard of him before (i live in the UK so i don't exactly watch american talk shows lol) but he seems pretty chill
They are both absolute treasures and watching either of them speak or perform anything is always a blast of pure dopamine.
How does Daniel stay so humble and grounded when sitting on all that $$$? Hats off to such a cool dude.
and in this interview he just said "We moved into a new building" and I'm like, Dude, buy a house! but maybe he was talking about London or something. Sounds like he owns a mansion in the LA area though
@@EmpyreanLightASMR I think he lives in New York, actually!
It's one of my favorite kinds of humor, and I guess it shows xD
I certainly expect a lot of surprised people out there, seeing as there's surely a generational gap since Weird Al is an '80s thing first.
“Bob” m.ruclips.net/video/JUQDzj6R3p4/видео.html
I don't like Bob but for Daniel to name such a deep cut shows that he has actually listened to Al's music.
I love weird al so much since he did night of too many starts with ActionPlay musical theater kids on the spectrum which me & my kids were lucky to be part of. "Ya-Ya-Ya-Ya-Yoda!!!" Such a special moment. He has a heart of gold.
The return of true deadpan comedy... Who knew Daniel and Al would be the Mel Brooks and Leslie Nielsen of our generation...
Weird Al has been a part of my life since I was like 8 years old and I was listening to Dr. Demento in my room past my bedtime. And Daniel Radcliffe is super cool as well. So wholesome.
Growing up in the '80s, Weird Al was the man. So awesome to see this all coming back full circle. Cannot wait to see this movie!
I remember buying "BAD HAIR DAY" as a CD. I can't wait to see this movie.
