my grade school teacher was friends with Weird Al before he got famous and she heard him writing and singing "My Bologna" in the bathroom. she always made sure to tell every single class that story lol
I went into the movie thinking it would be cheesy and cringy but it actually was funny and sweet. I quite enjoyed it. I can see why weird Al is so well liked. Seems like a class act.
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, thank you to everyone involved. Rainn Wilson as Dr. Demento was absolutely perfect casting for those of us who listened to his show back in the day.
The thing I love most and what inspires me the most about Weird Al was how he was able to shrug off the failure of UHF. He was just like "ok that didn't work, whats next?" he didn't let it slow him down, thats inspiring
IIRC, AL mentioned on the UHF commentary, It opened up in '89 against Batman and the multiple biggest box office hits of the all time at the time. He always had a good perspective on his career, keeps him humble.
I was not sure what to think of this movie when I saw the trailer, but watched it a few months back and found it to be one of the better movies to come out in ages.
That is such a great scene. Watching for the first time with a friend is like a game to see who can identify the most 80's weirdos and the actors portraying them. Emo Phillips could have played himself honestly.

Hell I've been watching and enjoying his parodies since the 80s. Well at the very least since he was first introduced to Australia on Countdown! The fun is in comparing the original song with Al's version. Mark from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Parts of it are absolutely brilliant, parts are a real snore. Big Weird Al fan so I loved it, but parts still put me to sleep... so it's not for everyone
I grew up listening to Dr demento in the late 70s through the 80s.there were 3 shows I'd stay awake for on the weekend to listen to and record cassettes of. One was a Mexican radio station that played nothing but punk and hard core metal, the dr. Dr show and a local San diego station that did metal music not given air time during regular hours. Back then it was like metallic anthrax megadeth thrash bands mostly. I used to get 90min longmplay cassettes to record those shows then later on edit out the commercials and have a mix tape of music.
This was one of the best clips I've scrolled and stumbled upon. It must have been surreal just being in back ground soaking in the historic characters that compose a longstanding fringe clique within an already "freakish" community.
Paul probably would have known what life had in store for him by the time he talked to Al about this, and sounds like Al might have been one of the few people who knew what was going on with him.
Was excited to hear the movie was being made and it didn't disappoint. Huge thanks to Weird Al for going for it and being a joy spreading Unicorn in the industry. The GOAT of silliness and proving there is a place for such. We need more Weird Al's. ❤
probably because he seems to only be going for roles he finds fun. Big Hollywood will no doubt always try and pigeonhole him into a fantasy hero role b/c Harry Potter. And Radcliffe apparently made enough money from playing Harry that he can live comfortably while only taking roles that he has fun playing.
I saw a while back Radcliffe wanted to walk around Comic-Con or something like it but knew he'd be mobbed by HP fans. He wore a Spider-Man costume, and no one bothered him at all.
So do people forget that he was a kind of a perv? Like, his character originally wore mirrors on his shoes to look up skirts, and he was caught jerking it in a theater.
This film was definitely unique. A parody of the biopic in a way that Spinal Tap isn't (Spinal Tap is brilliant, it's just that the Weird Al story is decidedly different). Outside of it being great for all the right reasons, I couldn't help but be constantly thinking that I was watching something new. A bio pic of a living artist that is clearly tongue in cheek and even self deprecating while also celebratory. It is, simply, weird.
The fact that a nerd pool party is happening and none of the nerds will take off their clothes and actually swim...( if someone had said in the background, maybe Grace Jones: "I don't even know how to swim" and bring attention to it) could have been a funny fitting flex.

Yeah don't hold your breath, kids these days can't watch anything that lasts more than 1 minute.
Weird AL is one of the most talented individuals in the world.
I love that the man who makes parodies of songs made a parody of celebrity biopics. Brilliant.
The coldest day in LA.
Canadians: "So a warm summer day here?
My exact thought was - "What was it, 70 degrees that day?"(Lives in NW Pennsylvania.)
I watched this the day it came out on the Roku channel. I probably called in late. The amount of 70s, 80s, and 90s fan service was all I needed. Thank you to everyone who made this ridiculous movie possible.
God i wish i lived in the alternate universe where the lonely island played 3/4ths of queen in the weird al movie
Wendy did an amazing job with the costumes.
my grade school teacher was friends with Weird Al before he got famous and she heard him writing and singing "My Bologna" in the bathroom. she always made sure to tell every single class that story lol
Your teacher overheard rock'n'roll history. What a legend
Nitpick: They depicted Tiny Tim as right-handed. He was left-handed and held his ukulele the opposite way from what’s shown in the movie.
Glad to know Al is a part of this now I have to watch it. He is one of my hero's.
The more I learn about Weird Al the more I love him.
emo philips as salvador dali is an inspired casting choice
Weird Al is the most underrated entertainer of all times.
He's very well rated. You're commenting on a video about the celebrities who made a cameo in a movie about him.
I didn't know that Salvador Dali was Emo Philips until this video, I had to pause and look for several seconds before I recognised him
I went into the movie thinking it would be cheesy and cringy but it actually was funny and sweet. I quite enjoyed it. I can see why weird Al is so well liked. Seems like a class act.
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, thank you to everyone involved. Rainn Wilson as Dr. Demento was absolutely perfect casting for those of us who listened to his show back in the day.
Dr Demento was one of the funniest and most important characters in the film . Rainn did a great job.
considering what we have gotten for movies this year, this would have been a bigger hit if it was released in theatres
Wait, it wasn't released in theaters? 😳
The thing I love most and what inspires me the most about Weird Al was how he was able to shrug off the failure of UHF. He was just like "ok that didn't work, whats next?"
he didn't let it slow him down, thats inspiring
IIRC, AL mentioned on the UHF commentary, It opened up in '89 against Batman and the multiple biggest box office hits of the all time at the time. He always had a good perspective on his career, keeps him humble.
As a kid, I absolutely dragged my family to UHF in the theaters, and it was the greatest thing I had ever seen.
I was not sure what to think of this movie when I saw the trailer, but watched it a few months back and found it to be one of the better movies to come out in ages.
I honest to goodness thought this was going to be a serious biography. I loved how wrong I was.
That is such a great scene. Watching for the first time with a friend is like a game to see who can identify the most 80's weirdos and the actors portraying them. Emo Phillips could have played himself honestly.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but from these scenes I'm blown away by that actor playing Pee-Wee... wow, he did great job.
Queen blocking Freddy Mercury from the movie is a fucking crime.
Yeah. People get all weird about their sacred cows. It's probably funnier this way because no one knew who Deacon was and he had to explain it.
One of the funniest comedies in years. “Weird” is a comedy masterpiece.
Radcliffe should’ve won an Oscar.
It makes me happy they had a nod to Divine
This movie was an absolute masterpiece. It's up there with Tenacious D as an easy to sit back and enjoy movie.
true story - Weird Al and Jack Black both played at a concert to benefit my sick son - organized by the Pixies - all singing Pixies songs - Weird Al sang I bleed - check it out on youtube
"you like Weird Al?"
it was hard growing up in the 80's
"Yes, yes I do!" ...no invite to party right there
'80s* It doesn't belong to the number 80. 😛
Who would ever want to go to a party hosted by people who hate Weird Al??
I'd rather stay home and watch Weird Al videos out of respect for Al. Hell I've been watching and enjoying his parodies since the 80s. Well at the very least since he was first introduced to Australia on Countdown!
The fun is in comparing the original song with Al's version.

Why isn’t this available in the uk! This film deserves more exposure!
It should be on the Roku Channel
It is available, but you have to buy a Roku stick.
@@mcgherkinstudios Nah, Roku has an app, you don’t need the stick.
I imagine Freddie would've been pissed that his own estate wouldn't let him be in the movie
I understand them wanting to be protective of Freddie's image, but Weird Al wouldn't do anything to smear his image or reputation.
@@Paulafan5 In real life I can imagine Al and Freddie playing a set doing both the original and parody and enjoying every second of it.
Why people didn’t talk more about this movie is masterpiece
It's still not available in many places, so it has been overshadowed by so much so much else
because it didn't release cinematic or in any famous streaming services like HBO Max, Netflix and Disney+.
Parts of it are absolutely brilliant, parts are a real snore. Big Weird Al fan so I loved it, but parts still put me to sleep... so it's not for everyone
@@squidge903 You ain't fat! You ain't nothin'!
@@venwal6673 I'm not even to buy it anywhere in my country yet, which seems crazy at this point
Weird AL should do the halftime show at the super bowl.
That would make me excited enough to want to actually want to watch a halftime show. He would be INCREDIBLE!
this movie was so brilliant. it was the movie that i never thought i needed until I saw it.
Respect to Costume designer for attention to detail on items that get cut.
I look forward to Weird Al's next bio pic in 30 years.
Weirder: The Making of Weird: The Al Yankovich Story: A Docu-Film: Part 3
Two words. Fisher price tape recorder. Nostalgia everywhere.
“Weird Al is a modern rock genius.”
-Kurt Cobain.
an amazing story - as far fetched as they made it - you can tell there was nothing but love in the cast, crew and community - what a blast!
When do we get the "Spatula City: The Rise and Fall of a Kitchen Icon" movie?!
This was one of the best clips I've scrolled and stumbled upon. It must have been surreal just being in back ground soaking in the historic characters that compose a longstanding fringe clique within an already "freakish" community.
The entire world is happy this movie got made
Too cold in L.A. for the pool? What, was it 68 degrees?
Pain is temporary, but film is forever.
Paul probably would have known what life had in store for him by the time he talked to Al about this, and sounds like Al might have been one of the few people who knew what was going on with him.
That's Steven van Zandt (Silvio Dante in The Sopranos) in the photo at 5:07, with Pee Wee Herman and Weird Al.
At that time he was just some guitar guy for Bruce Springsteen.
Was excited to hear the movie was being made and it didn't disappoint. Huge thanks to Weird Al for going for it and being a joy spreading Unicorn in the industry. The GOAT of silliness and proving there is a place for such. We need more Weird Al's. ❤
Emo Phillips is AMAZING!
Yeah I had no idea that was Emo. He really got into character.
@@Nozoki Right? Amazing!
Pardon me, I was filled with Joygasm when the video showed actual photos of both Weird Al and Pee-Wee together.
Daniel Radcliffe is underrated man. Why is not the big directors making a note of him?
probably because he seems to only be going for roles he finds fun. Big Hollywood will no doubt always try and pigeonhole him into a fantasy hero role b/c Harry Potter. And Radcliffe apparently made enough money from playing Harry that he can live comfortably while only taking roles that he has fun playing.
Easily the best comedy in at least 2 decades.
This movie was quite strange but it was great to see Daniel’s range as an actor. He’s not just Harry Potter anymore
I saw a while back Radcliffe wanted to walk around Comic-Con or something like it but knew he'd be mobbed by HP fans. He wore a Spider-Man costume, and no one bothered him at all.
my favorite part of that song has always been thy guy that yells YEEEEAAAAHHHH!!! watching someone actually do it in the video was amazing.
Does my heart good to know everyone loves Al and came through for him.such a good dude
I listened to the Dr. Demento show on Kmet in LA 1976-1979. Loved every minute.
RIP Pee Wee 😢
So do people forget that he was a kind of a perv? Like, his character originally wore mirrors on his shoes to look up skirts, and he was caught jerking it in a theater.
Also, RIP Gallagher. He passed away in November 2022.
So Emo Phillips is in this scene and he doesn't play himself. That is clever.
Al still has soooo much energy. This guy is a national treasure❤
This movie is so good. Don’t sleep on it if you haven’t watched it would say it is worth a Roku to watch it. I’ve watched it about a dozen times.
You don't need a Roku device to watch it, it's free on their website.
As with all of his work, Al Yankovic's biopic is an instant cult classic.
Finally you grew back your stache AL!!! Loved the movie it was soo funny and enjoyable...
I used to stay up late every Sunday night to listen to the Doctor Damento show and loved UHF.
I loved the movie, and it's too bad about the, uh, sudden death that took Weird Al from us in 1985. (Movie reference)
I was not expecting that!
The fact that a nerd pool party is happening and none of the nerds will take off their clothes and actually swim...( if someone had said in the background, maybe Grace Jones: "I don't even know how to swim" and bring attention to it) could have been a funny fitting flex.
Having a black person saying: "I don't know how to swim" probably wouldn't fly too well
