Just remember, your parents were the ones living above their means first and teaching you that's how life was supposed to be. If it's any consolation, your kids are gonna be frugal as all-get-out.
Gen Xers too because we were there in the beginning. I had a mix tape I used to bring to elementary my uncle made me. Eventually, I made my own off the Dr Demento show. The people born when I was born were “lucky” enough to graduate right when major companies stopped hiring with good benefits. We were graduating college in time for 9/11. We had a huge college debt but no jobs because suddenly everything collapsed. No one was hiring, people lost their jobs, their homes, and everything they knew. It was basically the most unlucky time to be trying to start your life. Things are much better now but they still suck in a lot of ways. Health insurance is worse, the cost of living is higher than income, and you pretty much have to have a multi-family income to own a house that isn’t pre-made in a factory. It’s not about the previous generation that raised you. It’s about the people with power doing what they have to to remain in power and dividing the rest of us so we don’t do anything about it.
This has nothing to do with generations. Do you seriously think everyone born before you walked out of high school into a six figure job? Mcdonalds has been hiring for 60 years man. Being broke has been a way of life since the beginning of time.

Thing that I like about "Weird" Al's videos are that they're clean and funny. Most parody's that people make these days have multiple words that aren't appropriate for kids. Al's videos are appropriate for everyone.
"You can even get a large fry" A man after my own heart! Love this, while being a parody it's still more relatable and realistic than those songs by millionaire artists who rap about expensive stuff. And the video is genius, took me several viewings to catch all the references.
I love the food labels "Pork and Beans in vaguely reddish sauce" Then the ice cream truck: "KREEPY KONE Kreepy sez: I'm not dangerous!" "KNARF Mac wads and cheese, its the heart-attackiest!"
I actually think this is really romantic! He's making the best out of a bad situation, and tries to give her stuff that she likes, and that he can afford... i know i'm weird. XD
One reference I do not think anybody caught at 2:27. The address of the pizza place is "Pico Blvd + Sepulveda. Al got his start on the Dr. Demento Show. And the theme song is "Pico and Sepulveda".

This is a song parody from Bob Dylan's song Homesick Subterranean Blues.
