As a mother, I cannot fathom anything happening to my 3 year- old son. My heart breaks for all the children and families who lost their life to this horrific fire. May God bless everyone in Maui. Why didn't the Navy immediately bring in ships and troops to provide supplies for the people that are left stranded on the Westside? This effort should not be put upon the backs of locals using automobiles and small boats alone. So much more could have been done so much faster via the sea with large ships. Plus the ships can park and create a hotspot for cellular service

Don't dismiss or redirect from their guilt expressed- it is called survivor's guilt, and it is extremely difficult to cope with somehow being spared for no reason they can understand from a disaster heavily hitting so many, and those not as devastated in home or possessions or family or business struggle horribly every day they see and hear and know they were lucky and most were not 😔
This is so crazy. I have trouble grasping it. I can't imagine the horror of parents realizing that there's no way out and they're about to burn alive with heir children, as they kids scream, mama, dada, help!! It's hell in paradise.

This is just such a horrible tragedy. I just don't know if anything I could say would be of value but I'm SO, SO sorry for the loss of life. It's just too horrible for words😢 and I'm remembering you all in my prayers. I know it's not much but we care 🙏
3000 buildings were destroyed. 13,000 people trying to evacuate on one road. That's right one road in or out of town. Reality is anyone young, or old, handicapped, using a wheel chair or walker, probably didn't make it, so yes, expect the numbers to increase. Yes, expect children to be in the numbers. This was as close to a Pompeii type event without the involvement of a volcano.
Nit just one road - but 1 single lane ! With Hurricane evacuations on the Gulf & East Coasts, they turn ALL lanes of highways & freeways into ONE WAY exits to expedite large # of people leaving at once!
These poor people had no clue what awaited for the them that day. This is so horrifying

Beyond sad. This tragedy will forever change Lahaina. The trauma will last a long time. So heart breaking knowing that this cannot be undone. So depressing knowing how many tried to escape and died. Hope they are all in the real paradise now.

Warnings of any kind should have been issued 6-10 hours prior to the fires getting anywhere near Front street. Also evacuation from the beach using Coast guard or Navy vessels/equipment has been done in Australia. This was a major failure by the Gov administration and leaders in Maui. Gov Green's "emergency" order in July to benefit developers sure looks shady.

Where were the firebreaks? Why did the mayor & city leadership do feth all to clear the massive fuel loads of invasive grasses around the town?
Why was the city's water infrastructure allowed to become so woefully decrepit? Firefighters are saying there was limited to no water pressure in the hydrants with which to try & fight the fires
Where was the city leadership ensuring there were planned & practiced evacuation routes?
Why was the 'all clear' given earlier in the day while there were still active fires in the region?
Why in the hell were schools CLOSED, when the far safer option was to keep them open & maintain the buses on site in case of an emergency?!
This situation is very similar to what happened a few years ago in Fort McMurry, Alberta...
Tinder dry conditions, fast moving & very large fire near the town. Extreme winds shifted & allowed the fire to jump the nearby river which then broke through the fire lines & raced into the city.
Difference is, the city's leadership was competent, had plans in place in case of a 'worst case scenario', and never hesitated to sound the evac orders. No one died that day when a large chunk of Fort Mac burned.

They had them. He chose not to sound the alarm. He stands by that decision, saying people would have chosen the high ground. I imagine it’s crucial to preserve whatever remains exist, as painful as it MUST be to prevent survivors from re-entering from both sides, this is essentially a massive potential crime scene. Please respect this event as you would the processing of a potential crime scene, at the very least someone’s remains potentially being at the scene of a house fire is cordoned off until processing is completed. People sue over coffee, we’ve made our world over complicated and in a truly complex situation we must respect the systems we have allowed.

It's the grieving process. It's processing the overwhelming sense of not being in control after a disaster or trauma. When the situation overwhelms the body's systems to respond, the loop stays trapped in the body and mind. The processing will take time, the different methods to gradually exorcise the inner heaviness and turmoil will be multidisciplinary and comprehensively bio-psycho-social non linearly. A lifetime's worth of transformation almost analogous to 12 step recovery process modalities and framework.
So sad 😢. So many wonderful people died and now small businesses struggling to get back on the their feet again. Happy rain is coming.
I have seen COUNTLESS accounts of people posting that were in the fire... they all say the kids were sent home that day, school was CANCELLED, a lot of the bodies are going to be children. I'm not sure how much will really be covered, but also childrens' bones aren't fully calcified so they might not find the actual remains of a lot of kids. Just spreading awareness because that is what those affected have asked of everyone. They need more help than the government is providing. They're doing this all alone.

😠 Adding more future suffering and death to Maui, DOGS are now used to sniff through *toxic fumes and ashes* that the handlers know *will cause cancers* so *they* are covered from head to toe with protective gears while the dogs have none! 🐾 Dogs are also painstakingly slow, only small % of grounds covered so far as of 08/15. 🕵 HUNDREDS of "citizen forensics" would work faster and better, especially now that those with missing friends and families are just sitting around doing nothing, feeling helpless. They WANT to come in, look for their dead and maybe salvage some belongings. Please train them on the basics of search and recovery! Have officials accompany them, THEN GEAR THEM UP, LET THEM IN!
