Why don't you have a weapon and shield challenge? Each competitor will have to make a defense and offense weapon that would normally be used against each other. the shield of competitor 1 VS. the sword of competitor 2 then it is swapped. might be cool idea.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!
Im sorry but the edditing wasnt very appropriate with all the useless sounds of blood
Seeing how much they struggled with this even with all the modern tools makes you respect the ancient blacksmiths even more.
difference is that blacksmiths actually spent time on their swords most of the time, at least if they wanted a decent sword. Most of the contestants dont even forge their own steel, theres been episodes where they literally just cut a shape out of a steel plate and then heattreat it. The older blacksmiths spent weeks if not months to make high quality swords, not 4 days. Though it should also be known that most of these guys are just hobbyists and not blacksmiths by trade
@kizz i had to disagree on the lost art part.. in many places, guns are not for general population, in most of asia, sword making and sword art are primary mean of defence for general population until late 19th century. Before the ww1 happen..
"Modern tools." Bro, anybody wanting to make serious use blades doesn't use a setup like either of these guys. A lot of the really good steels can't even be properly heat treated the way they do on this show.
Pretty sure that ancient Blacksmiths had more than 4 days to make their blades. Most of the time, I think its a miracle that the blades survive at all.
Schregger right? Like I get they are master blacksmiths for the most part, but you cant account for something out of your control, such as poorer quality steel, without either knowing the signs or finding out before it’s too late xd.
You know a weapon will be broken when the making part takes too much time on a 10 mins video :p
And maybe because the title says it xd
@@samuelvanburg4147 My english isn't perfect : I though "shatters" was a kind of sword
@@Zekium ahh my bad! Didn't know that man
@@samuelvanburg4147 No problem : What I've said still apply though
@@Zekium ur gey
Wish they would keep in the historical value of the sword in the video it's cool to see the history of the sword.
Watch the series then. These highlight videos are to generate interest
Its been cut!
@@pandaypira4346 oh good. That was gunna be my question because my thought was "weren't these alot longer when I watched them? Had historical information and requirements?" I'll head back to Hulu to check it out again now. XD I dont know which season I left off on yet.
You should watch the full series instead of this short video. They always put the histroy of each weapon b4 they ask the contestant to recreate the weapon.
@@john851231 not always available in different countries but these highlights are thankfully enjoyable across the globe
Why is no one talking about Doug's ridiculous acting when the smiths entered the forge?😂
Just here to hear my daily dose “it will KEEEEL”
FFS Didn’t Even Say It
But then he doesn't even say it
he couldve said: the pig will keel
Doug on a razor scooter: AH MY HEEEEL
WeirdChamp 💯😂 TRUE
Yaqub Ahmed when you think he’s about to keel but he forgets to keel
Man creates Beast of a sword
Man wins Manliest show ever
Man proceeds to do "Happy Dance"
LOL!
I love how Wil goes from talking calmly to screaming "YAAAAAH!" and back to his usual calm voice
😂
To the editors of these videos, please don't cut out the history of the weapon. Y'all are the History channel after all. We want to know where it came from and why it developed. Half the fun of the show.
When drilling hardened steel, it is important to use plenty of lubrication and perhaps coolant, there are lubricating pastes made specifically for drilling into hardened steel, but I find machining/cutting oil to be the best, apply a few drops and go nice and slow, making sure to not overheat your piece or your bit, pull out often, and resharpen regularly as needed. It might take a while, but with enough dedication you could probably drill that with a masonry bit.
6:36 my heart on valentines day.
Well there it went
The dude who had a huge problem every single day is the one who won man he must feel great about that
This is why modern blacksmith's need to learn to punch the hole, not drill.
Or pre drill the holes before the hardening process
@@L.H.F. he did drill them before hardening. He drilled his holes on day 2 and we can see in the video on day 4 he says "got sword blade quenched yesterday"
Giggity
@@wolfofmagdalene92 as someone who works with milling machines, these types of drills they use (idk the english word lol) for a living it kinda hurts my eyes seeing how some of them drill metal lol
@Robert Ross g
I love how they embraced the quick zooms and cheesey angles
0:19 - you're welcome
God bless you sir.
I just clicked this time stamp like 764 times in a row
culdwun 900 So, His bwaah was around 1 second long, I’ll add another second for the time it takes to click on the time stamp to rewatch it and for potential hinders in the process. If we take 764 rewatches times 2 we get 1528, then if we take 1528 and divide that by 60 and we get 25 which means that you spent 25 minutes watching his bwaah, I just have to say that that’s a proper chad move!.
(I know you were joking, I’m just having fun as well)
Reminds me of when Dave Chappelle did the Dean Scream... BYAAAHH!!
What's with all the sound effects in this episode
It's made to sound like an old Chinese Martial arts movie because the blade is a Chinese sword
chinese new year special
@@threeeyedgoldpatrick Which is funny because the old Chinese movies always had bad sound design.
I'm pretty sure Ken even kept moving his mouth after he was done speaking when saying the one line. Maybe it was just me but it looked hilarious.
Lmao!!! Ikr!?!? 😂😂😂
im really loving the goofyness developing in this show
When I see Doug talking I half expect the words to come out at a different speed than his lips are moving
Seems like Doug Didn't Clear His throat in this Episode.
5:38 dude sounds like he's in Nintindo fight game
He's quoting from Enter the Dragon.
When I see people drill metals without cutting fluid I cringe....you can easily cut hard metals if only you had used cutting fluid. Now you are not only dulling your drill with a risk of break but your drill and the metal becomes really hot and that ruins the metal.
the cringe is real when these guys are so called experts but dont know how to drill. wonder if they even look at their spinning speeds
Ya, It’s quite hard to watch lol. No wonder his blade snapped at one of the holes.
It's especially important to use the proper cutting oil expecially when you're drilled simi harden metals
Thanks..
I was Wondering the best way, and I thought I seen him skip a Step.
it's a better idea to drill holes and put in fullers before the quench.
6:40 that judges reaction 🤣🤣
Show Runners: ‘Doug we are doing Chinese swords’
Doug: ‘hold my rice wine’
So we’re not gonna talk about how they were literally in sync at 5:34? 😂
Lol
Maybe it's the only video with Doug in a Tee. Never watched him in a tee before🔥
Why don't you drill it before heat treatment??? It keeeled the Blade
It has a Chance of breaking
It won't heat evenly, same reason why they don't sharpen them before the quench.
But in ancient Times before drills, they had to Hammer the holes in While the blade was still hot. So before quenching
@@reachingvalhalla5096 Maybe, but if they had hardened steel they would have been able to make files and spoon shaped drill bits. Though I couldn't find any literature on it. I think the smartest way the smiths in the video could have done it would be to put clay over where they intended to put the holes. Keep those 9 areas softer to reduce the chance of creating fractures. That's essentially what he did with the torch.
It would have probably also been better to have punched the metal to give it a radius on the holes edge, straight edges cause stresses which also might have lead to the failure of the blade.
I never saw all the judges be so goofy about this theme, but I like it hahaha
There’s a lot of debate on the purpose of the rings. Some say it’s to make the cuts “dirtier”. Some say it’s used to distract or intimidate your opponent
It's impressive that the 01 held up so well to those types of strikes.
What breaks your heart?
99.9% of people: Baby animals being mistreated
Me: Seeing a weapon break
7:00 that command and conquer music though
Mecha-Tengu, Let's Go!
Its a real shame, they both made very beautiful weapons
LOL...love the Enter the Dragon riff.
Love that the guy didn't give up, good stuff, good character
His sword is like a bluff, but he wins 🤣
Was anyone else hoping for a legendary tie?
Just here for my daily dose of “it will keeeEel”
Well, you must have been disappointed.
It's always devastating when the blade breaks....
Loving that enter the dragon reference!
“Give me your blade” so I can secretly fix it and put it on Amazon
Lol the sound he created when he showed the sword
Remember drill small and then work up to the size you need. You are less likely to cause stress in your blade.
And he should be used as a coolant oil to keep the metal and the drill bit as cool as possiblesomething like Wonder cut which is actually a milling oil but it works great for drilling
You could drift the holes instead which is better anyway.
@@1014p yes and no. Depending on your steel and temperature you can still create stress fracturing. That is why I drill or drift while the steel is soft and then harden the blade after heat cycling the blade.
Haven’t they heard of cutting oil? Holy moly drilling through that blade should NOT be difficult.
Boy now that was unexpected
Thought the other guys blade would break
Edit-thanks for so many likes I never get this many on RUclips!!!
not really, the first guy made the mistake of drilling his holes in after he heat treated. The other guy made his holes before he heat treated which stopped that from happening
Saahen Sharma exactly
Not if you followed how and when he drilled the holes into the blade
Lol, Mercado's quote from Enter the Dragon at 5:30.
I love these i just click as soon as i see these i love swords and weapons!!
I have 1 question can the comeptitor who lost come back another time?
That is one beast of a sword!
can someone explain to me why the blades are never quenched all the way?
Like they only put in the part where the edge starts. Why not heat treat everything?
And what i like about the judges is, that even though a blade breaks or won´t "make the cut" They still find some more or less empowering words about the weapon. It´s not like those cooking shows where the chefs say things like "Sometimes the best ingredients are the one that are not put into the dish" and they really give the contestants a bad feeling.
Thats not the case here, which i like.
9.37 when you wasn't prepared for the test but somehow comes 1st surprise! 😂
So the absolute opposite of what I was expecting to happen happened?! 😂😂
I love how creative the blacksmiths get sometimes
I like the way he wiggle hahaha
Coop doin the happy dance 😂😂😂
i love how chill they react after a chunk of a blade flies by that could kill someone. xD i predict that at some point someone is going to get hurt like really bad hurt.
7:37's song is from C&C Red Alert 3 lol
Red Alert 3 all the way, the starting background music is also the Japanese Empire BGM
Omg the dance at the end
So cringy lmaoo
İm supersad that we cant see the other test when a sword breaks😩😭
The suspense was good.
good job
Ou man.. the guy that won is like a young version of my uncle. So humble
Thats a fkin great episode !
These mf’s used red alert 3 music in 6:41. That brings back memories...
I love the swords they're amazing! Actually even though they break they're still really awesome it's really intense watching this hehehehe
“tips comin’ in there right now”
that happy dance was AWKWARD
Anyone notice how doug was imitating old movie dialect, mouth keeps moving without any sound coming out lol
Pig caucus be like you ain't going through me sword. :D :D
SWEET TEA!!!
When the sword snapped I legit felt it🙆🏾♂️
We're all sad because we didn't hear our It will keeell :-(
Em curves on the back of the blade made it exotic af!
6:40 collective "oooooooooooooo"
Well, that was quick
It was funny watching the cloth get in the way of the blade during the strikes
8:25 with al due respect. How the F is it gonna slice/cut if the sword gets cockblocked by its own little wavyflag.
It’s not long enough to stop cutting as it can only cover the bottom 1/3 of the blade. It was also added to confuse the enemy on where the blade actually is.
@@shanehunt9256 the red flag thingy was not 1/3
killervshot MLG ikr it was like 4 5ths
That scarf thing is ENTIRELY unnecessary, & actual broadswords, when used for their intended purposes, wouldn't have something like that tied to it (not at such lengths at least). that thing is pure theatrics.
Red Alert 3 Imperial Campaign music at the beginning :)
YAAASSSSSSSSS YAAASSSSSSSSS YAAASSSSSSSSS YAAASSSSSSSSS
This is among my top 3 favorite swords in the world. THANK YOU FORGED IN FIRE!!!! 🗡️⚔️🔥
What was that editing on the beginning 😂😂😂
vegiterians: aaAAAAaAaaAAAAaaaAAa
normal people: what a waste of good food.
It goes to wolf shelter. Its not a waste
You can still bbq that. I would.
Im a Bee thank you, I was wondering that
when the actual video starts at 6:00 minute you know something is about to break
What a beautiful sword
He should've stopped when it was cut in half. Lol
Prior to a pig carcass test, I keep hoping Doug will say "Anyone for some pork chops?"
Should have tempered the sword after drilling the holes. Drilling hardened steel causes microscopic stress fractures that can cause catastrophic failure of the metal.
Chinese emperor ghost got into Sir Doug..😂😂😂😂
These judges are so nice!!
I like that Red Alert 3 music :P
Anybody else appreciate the heavy rock in the background?
Drilling holes on a hardened blade, seems like a great idea.
I was scrolling down the comment section, not focusing on the video when I suddenly heard a "WAAAAHHHH!" at 0:19 and I became so confused.
2:15 Worst "power" hammer EVER!
I was expecting the second sword to break.
Good good!!!
Nice cutting with all that cloth wrapping around the blade.
ive never been so early for a vid.
Nine Ring Sword: used as a training weapon to teach students proper strikes. On a slash, all 9 rings “clink” one after another; signaling a correct slash. On a thrust, the rings should all clink together at the same time.
Source: was curious so I googled it for more information.
It was said that other than symbolic meanings & for distracting opponents somewhat, the rings are actually there as WEIGHTS, primarily to adjust the feel & weight of a blade, just like how one would in some of the gaming mouse today. furthermore, the rings prevent the blade from going in too deep when bringing down really powerful chops, while also making it easier to yank the blade out if it happens to be stuck.
But then again, those were simply speculations by non-wielders. the true use of those rings are actually for training, performance & intimidation purposes, like the clinking part you said. This kind of blade itself ain't even meant for actual combat.
