You can tell a real blacksmith by one thing. If he is able to differ forge weld from real Damascus.

@@weynewman6415 yes. Damascus is wootz steel(i may had butchered the name) and forge weld is welding and twisting bars together just for the pattern.
Real damascus steel doesn't exist today and the process of manufacture is lost, so it's really easy to differ. That doesn't mean that modern forge welded steel is "just for the pattern"...
