They are extremely close IMO when it comes to quality. I had my wife help me with a blind on the rocks with the 2 and I picked the 1910 but they were close.
It's always interesting how the whiskey you drank right before affects the experience on the whiskey you drink after. Even if you had waw-tuh in between.
Wot no Woodford double-oak?! Always got a bottle in my cabinet as it`s a comforting sweet pour but perhaps I should try something different. I`m a chocoholic so the Starlight would definitely work for me. Nice comparison Jason.
Starlight is a new one for me and have recently had their Port Finish and Double Oaked. But Starlight's Cigar Batch (Amburana Barrel) is unreal. One of the best I've ever had. Cool to see them get some love.
Just did this same blind two nights ago with OF 1910, WR DO, Sagamore DO, and Starlight DO (non-pick). Finished in that same order but all were good. Going to do round two soon with Peerless DO, Penelope Toasted, 2XO, and a Nulu Toasted. I have a feeling Penelope is going to win, it’s been my favorite thus far. Wouldn’t mind seeing you do a round two on this with some different bottles in the future. Cheers!
Was really interested in this one but having the non standard Starlight pick included was a little disappointing. Would like to see how an off the shelf Starlight DO would fare. If it still wins great! But to compare this way isn’t a fair fight when the one was a personal pick.
The 1910 is about the only one I have seen in our area and I like it a lot. I will keep my eyes open for the other ones. I just grabbed a bottle of Penelope toasted so looking forward to cracking that. Will have to see how it compares to 1910 and WRDO.
Love me some of the Peerless, was glad to pick up a bottle a couple weeks ago. Have you tried the rye yet? Need to hit up the distillery again and grab a bottle.
Is that a Peerless barrel pick? OHLQ has it at 101 proof. I like how Peerless proofs down the whiskey before barreling. As opposed to everyone else who adds water after aging. I just feel like they're very expensive.
As much as I like the Starlight Double Oaked Bourbons most of the time I find their Double Oaked Ryes even better!!! I also need to try to get you a sample of the Thirteenth Colony Double Oaked or see if I can find another bottle and get it to you. I think that bottle would easily win but it is also at 135.3 proof and 9 years old. It would also fit in the middle price wise at 80 bucks.
Good Video with great line up. Funny, I've just brought two bottles of Peerless back from Kentucky where I scored them from the Distillery a couple of years ago. One the same 107.1 you have and a Single Barrel Double Oak at 108.1. I was wondering what to open up for Christmas. The winner is, both. Cheers.
Nice video. I have all of these except Starlight. Not surprised about 1910 … it’s way too sweet and thin for me. Have not opened the other two so interested in trying as bought the 2XO on your recommendation albeit you seemed reserved and not blown away by it. Blinds are always fun and surprised Starlight won out. As an aside, I bought some black Glen Cairns after I noticed you using them … such a great idea. Cheers!!!
Hoping to see some Starlight stuff in Canada soon. Trails End 10 105 proof sourced Kentucky bourbon with the Oregon oak finish might work here as well.
Love DO bourbons! Been wanting the Peerless forever but have never seen it where I live. Gonna pick up the Starlight soon. Wonder how Nulu DO would stack up? It’s delicious.
I’m a big fan of 1910, I don’t get banana on it, I have an old label bottle not sure if that matters. I get banana on a bunch of their other products. Peerless is on my list! I guess I’ll have to add the Starlight!
I've only had three double oaked bottles (well, four, if you count Jim Beam Double Oak), Woodford, OF 1910 and Sagamore Double Oaked Rye. I don't dislike them but am otherwise a bit underwhelmed. Maybe it's the lower proof of all of them, or maybe that flavor profile just doesn't suit me. I like longer aged whiskeys, but for some reason these double barreled ones are just different.
I got the M&J pick Starlight but I couldn't rate it higher than OF1910 or WDO for me. Its good but those hit me where i like. I have a bottle of 2XO coming soon.
Lou!!! We loved your tour and appreciate the comment! Your enthusiasm for your craft and the legacy of bourbon was the best experience we had all weekend. Cheers buddy!
I was going to suggest same - Woodford DO struck me as low on proof, super krushable, sweet caramel as I recall and very approachable from an oak perspective. Some folks might think not oaky enough? What do you think?
Gotta say I'm getting Zbioticz fatigue already. More and more whiskey channels pushing this stuff. I also love the recommendation is drink plenty of water, drink alcohol responsibly, and get plenty of sleep. If I did those three things then I wouldn't need Zbioticz.
Well, it ALMOST won! Funny, I've only had a couple of samples of Starlight products and wasn't a fan - but never had their double-oaked. Glad a cheaper bottle won, though!
I really hate these kinds of trends: twice barreled and finished whisky. This has been happening in the scotch world for years, but scotch is a different animal. Many a scotch whisky needs to be finished to add more complexity to it. Bourbon on the other hand with 3 and sometimes 4 grains, new charred oak, and seasonal temperature changes make for a very complex spirit. This is all about market share and getting new people into bourbon. Unfortunately, there are two camps: big bourbon giants chasing trends and market share by taking good whisky and making into something different. Sometimes good like 1910 or bad like Jack Daniel’s twice barreled rye. Then you have someone that will take bad juice like Nulu who buys rejected experimental and dregs from MGP to make it drinkable. Unfortunately, the end result from all of the experiments and marketing, is a higher cost to all whisky. And this will only get worse in the coming years. Production has ramped up on a monumental scale, but it’s not for you, it’s or Europe and Asia.
That's definitely a great lineup, not super surprised by the results, but I'm curious why you didn't include Woodford double oaked.
Proof was too low.
Because it would win. 👍
Woodford Double Oaked used to be my favorite, but now that I have a bottle of OF 1910 I really like it better.
Agreed. If you run those two against each other the Old Forester will probably win.
They are extremely close IMO when it comes to quality. I had my wife help me with a blind on the rocks with the 2 and I picked the 1910 but they were close.
Dude you gotta show us which one is which while you’re giving your tasting notes
It's always interesting how the whiskey you drank right before affects the experience on the whiskey you drink after. Even if you had waw-tuh in between.
You can't go wrong with any of them. Penelope Toasted is another good one.
1910 is the winner. That is the only one I can get in Oregon and it's fantastic so I am going with that. 🥃
The M&J group picks are where it's at. Glad to be apart of this amazing group. Thanks M&J
Just did this same blind two nights ago with OF 1910, WR DO, Sagamore DO, and Starlight DO (non-pick). Finished in that same order but all were good. Starlight just keeps banging away!!! Great quality and price!
I was wanting to try the Peerless, guess you talked me into another Christmas gift to me! Great job as always!
Was really interested in this one but having the non standard Starlight pick included was a little disappointing. Would like to see how an off the shelf Starlight DO would fare. If it still wins great! But to compare this way isn’t a fair fight when the one was a personal pick.
Any chance of you coming to the bourbon bash in Greene county xenia oh?
The 1910 is about the only one I have seen in our area and I like it a lot. I will keep my eyes open for the other ones. I just grabbed a bottle of Penelope toasted so looking forward to cracking that. Will have to see how it compares to 1910 and WRDO.

Thx i just ordered 2 bottles of the Starlight based on your review. Merry Christmas to me 😆
Hmmmm! I have had the Starlight and the 1910. Enjoyed both but the Starlight did not stand out to me. Guess I need to get another bottle!
I'll have to try these. I didn't think anything was better than 1910.
Yeah that thing I keep hearing about. Not sure it's a fair fight with those stats but yeah. Get me a sample
I would bet that Peerless would win, or maybe the 2XO.
Damn I was wrong but it makes sense: Starlight does SO many finishes and they do them SO well!
Sagamore Double Oaked and Lucky 7 Holiday Toast are two great bottles also.
Good Video with great line up. Funny, I've just brought two bottles of Peerless back from Kentucky where I scored them from the Distillery a couple of years ago. Starlight for the win
Haven't seen it through yet, but my guess is Peerless, Starlight, 2XO, 1910.
I have been to hubers 4 or 5 times and never knew they had a distillery!!! My mind is blown right now
I have a Starlight store pick that is delicious also. I love 1910 but this one maybe my new favorite.
Can we get this for double oaked Rye?
The Starlight DO is ridiculous. I have one that was a blend of 5,6,7 year bourbon that went into the second barrel. It slaps.
Trying that starlight right now. Got a store pick@ 111 proof. I’m going w the Peerless.
Favorite double oaked, Sagamore spirit Double Oaked Rye.
DUDE!!! How the hell do I get one of those shirts?!?!?!
Only double oak bourbons I tried are 1910 and Woodford Reserve…both are great
Also really enjoyed the Lucky 7 Holiday Toast
Hoping to see some Starlight stuff in Canada soon. Trails End 10 105 proof sourced Kentucky bourbon with the Oregon oak finish might work here as well.
Love DO bourbons! Been wanting the Peerless forever but have never seen it where I live. Gonna pick up the Starlight soon. Wonder how Nulu DO would stack up? It’s delicious.
Nice video. Now i want to go out and try to find the starlight. Haven’t tried a double oak product yet
@HIT ME UP ON NICEGRAM.... @themashanddrum i feel like this is a scam
Starlight !!! My favorite distillery!!
1910 was so much different than Woodford DO. I prefer Woodford and Peerless. I wish I could find the Starlight I only see it online.
I’m a big fan of 1910, I don’t get banana on it, I have an old label bottle not sure if that matters. I get banana on a bunch of their other products. Peerless is on my list! I guess I’ll have to add the Starlight!

Need to get your hands on the 13th Colony DO Cask Strength. It is the best DO and damn delicious. Chocolate on chocolate on chocolate.
Gonna have to look for Starlight....or the Peerless
Haven't had the double oaked bourbon yet but the last pick I had of the Starlight Double Oaked Rye was fantastic!
Pursuit United has the best Double Oak!!! I thinks it's already sold out everywhere though...
Good topic, thanks
Another great toasted is Lucky Seven's The Holiday Toast. Cheers!
I got the M&J pick Starlight but I couldn't rate it higher than OF1910 or WDO for me. Its good but those hit me where i like. I have a bottle of 2XO coming soon.
Surprised you didn't include the Woodford in a double oaked blinded.
What happened to Woodford Reserve double oak ?
This was a fun one! Makes me even more sad I missed out on that Starlight pick though!
I’m the winner. I have all four at home 😃
How do I improve my pallet?
I enjoyed hosting you’re “Bear Hunter” group to the EW Speakeasy last week! Lou from Louisville
Lou!!! We loved your tour and appreciate the comment! Your enthusiasm for your craft and the legacy of bourbon was the best experience we had all weekend. Cheers buddy!
Sagamore Double Oaked is really good too!
Hey Jason what's up man?
No Woodford?
Bummed I missed out on that pick, sounds delicious
I love double oaked bourbons
I bet they are all delicious
My prediction; Peerless
Edit; Peerless came in 2nd. I could tell your #1 wasn’t the Peerless just by the color.
Great blind Jason
Something about sipping on Peerless alongside black coffee in the morning. 1910 punches above its weight.
I honestly didn’t know at first. Than the video veered and showed the starlight was one of our picks. Than the game was over and I picked starlight. 🤣
Peerless l love it. But I also like Elijah Craig toasted barrel that should’ve been there.
swap out 1910 for woodford DO
I was going to suggest same - Woodford DO struck me as low on proof, super krushable, sweet caramel as I recall and very approachable from an oak perspective. Some folks might think not oaky enough? What do you think?
2XO. Then 1910. Penelope toasted would fit in here too.
Gotta say I'm getting Zbioticz fatigue already. More and more whiskey channels pushing this stuff. I also love the recommendation is drink plenty of water, drink alcohol responsibly, and get plenty of sleep. If I did those three things then I wouldn't need Zbioticz.
Where is the Lucky Seven Holiday Toast?
This is gonna be good!!!! Runs to grab my Starlight MJ Pick to finally crack it open!! 😁
man I wish star light had distribution in Texas
Where's Woodford Reserve?
Shocked Starlight won...but also not shocked.
What happened to Woodford Double Oaked?
Too low of proof
I'm going to need everybody to stop talking about Starlight immediately. 😅😅🤣
13th colony double oaked would take down all of those! 'ld be glad to send you a sample.
Yo the Grinch is the 💩😂😂😂 I’m feeling that cup.
Enjoy your views brudah.. 👍
I'm thinking 2xo
Hard to beat Woodford Double Oaked man. But, to be fair. I've never had any of these.
Old forester?
2XO will probably win! Why wasn’t the famous Woodford Reserve Double oak in the review?
I was wrong 😂
I have a starlight double oaked pick and am not a fan
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
Woodford Reserve double oaked is the best and it only costs 54 dollars
13th Colony cask strength double oak is a monster. At the high proof, it wouldn’t be fair to compare. HMU if you want a sample.
Pay attention Bourbon Junkies
This is how it's done...lol
U need to let that 2xo open up more.
I wish 1910 was higher proof, but I don't think it suffers at that proof.
I think you should have prices paid in front of each bottle.
=)
I have a friend who lives in starlight. Indiana... hummm?
OF 1910...??
Prediction: Peerless Double Oak for the win.
Well, it ALMOST won! Funny, I've only had a couple of samples of Starlight products and wasn't a fan - but never had their double-oaked. Glad a cheaper bottle won, though!
1910 Army
sounds like there were no real losers

Where’s Woodford Double Oak
Shocker Starlight won lol
2XO
