Ha ha! I can't actually take credit for that! I get Dean (you may have heard him on the channel a few times) to send me rants about the Legions prior to each video. The one thing he mentioned which I hadn't picked up was the spicy impact of relentless on lads who can take bolters for only 1pt and not replace any of their close combat weapons.
So after playing a few games. I found your suggestion for the Recon Squads to be really good. They have the ability to bait out reactions from Heavy Support squads because of fear of getting pinned. Now I am working on converting a second 5-man squad.
I'm prepping for my first big HH event next week, and I gave this a listen, and for a split second I was panicking. I'm fully painted, list locked in, and I thought I was cheating, because I was outflanking with Pale Hunters with my Speaker of the Dead/Deathsworn Ret, and two Grey Slayer squads. I had to jump around the rules books to make sure that making Deathsworn a ret for SotD made them a single unit. Thanks for the video though, it helped me crystalize some of the things I was building towards.
Charles, I love the fen axe. Keeps me able to deal with mech or things like Gal Vorbak as well. Also makes killing dreads possible too. Speaker of the dead is a must! It gets work done!
The major downside to trying to get that +1 WS on the charge with Heavy units is that you end up paying a relatively steep price just to be able to close the distance quickly enough. Cataphracti Terminators (including Varagyr) absolutely must take a land raider at the bare minimum, and any heavy melee dreadnoughts you take (Leviathans especially) may as well take a drop pod to get to where they need to go. As such, you'll likely find yourself in situations where Reaping Blow will be especially sought after due to how few models you end up bringing to the table that way. As for the Rites of War, the only one I've seriously had to deal with was a Pale Hunters list done up as a fast Viking-style raiding force that included (among other things) two squadrons of 2 grav gun land speeders each, a jump pack-equipped Jarl with the Howl of Morkai warlord trait and lightning claw retinue, and two full assault squads. In conjunction with swiftly dispatching even heavily armoured vehicles (flare shields included) with the grav speeders, the Space Wolves player would frequently put all of the jump units into Outflank, and on the turn they show up would use Howl of Morkai to rip and tear with seven S5 AP3 Rending (6+) attacks per model on the command squad alone after running and charging up to 24"-34" from the board edge. He's even used this to wreck Spartans with their occupants still inside. Previously this was done using a full bike squad with accompanying champion in this Outflank role as well, but he found them to be a bit underwhelming this edition. Not to be outdone, the other units worth mentioning in the list include a seeker squad in land raider, a full missile support squad with techmarine support, and two 5-man recon squads with nemesis bolters.
Love the troop core of this list. Gonna do something very similar, except take the Combat Shields on my Slayers so when they come out of Outflank they might soak a few hits from units that don't get pinned by Rotor cannons.
I don’t agree with boltguns on Stalkers. You are already loaded up with melee/power weapons and the extra cost is not particularly worth it, especially considering how fast the unit is on foot. If you want shooting, use dedicated shooing units for that. One place I would consider boltguns is as a free swap for shields on Grey Slayer units. This makes them a slightly better backfield objective holding unit and allows them to continue to have some impact on the game at range (although we all know Recons are the best at this). One trick with the Scorpius is you can equip units with Nucio Vox’s and hide the tank behind terrain but re roll scatter provided the unit has LoS keeping the tanks alive for much longer.
I'm just starting Horus Heresy and I wanna make a space wolves army. I did see your 2k pt army and the end of the video but was wondering if could recommend 500 or 1k pt army. I just dont wanna spend to much atm xD Love the vid
Your take on the Grey Stalkers is awesome. Thank you so much for this.

@mattjohnson2090 oh no! Is my advice wrong? I know it's a tricky bit of the rules and I'm unsure if FAQs have cleared it up yet.

Thank you! And looking forward to Dark Angels guide!
Getting close now! Finishing all 18 Legions will feel so good!

Do you have a Allies video?

I just recently re-read Scars. That's certainly not Magnus' opinion... But I tend to agree.
