Install the speed motor on a v1 truck and the drag brake becomes a curse. V2 with speed motor is the route to go.
Exactly! That drag brake sucks on the Max Smasher! All these people that are upset just don't know! V2 is the better setup for bashing, but there's no video to inform others about it. There's a reason FMS changed the electronics, and cost ain't it!
What's wrong with the drag brake on v1 truck with speed motor? Too much or drag?
And is the drag brake on low speed gear only?
@@EdwardChew the drag brake is on high and low, this with the speed motor is too much. It flips forward every time you hit the throttle and let off, then you have to pick it up to set it back on its tires. Doesn’t take much of this to break the bumpers and the light bar on top. Maybe if the remote control adjustments on mine worked, it would have been okay. Unfortunately, trying to make adjustments to the drag brake via the remote did nothing. I sold mine for a v2.
@@EdwardChew I experienced the same as Mark! Not only does it flip forward by just laying off of the throttle it also nose dives in jumps because the drag brake is applied in the air! It's frustrating. (I also have the speed motor). Mine is actually a Butcher converted into the Max Smasher, but I'm converting it back because the V1 setup is for crawling not bashing! I just ordered an actual Max Smasher with the V2 setup. This will be my third Max Smasher. The other two are my kids trucks. Those drive awesome with the V2 radio/ESC!
@@ectorvalle4059 Thank you for the clarification! Good to hear!
After reading the comments it seems like the v2 is the way to go. Your 1st gear acts like a drag brake but 2nd will free roll and apparently in the v1 the drag brake is always applied making it front flip. Get used to the v2 and it will perform better by the sounds of it ( I do not own a v1)
Exactly
I take it back I added the speed motor and now it the truck will cut power to half for a second then back to full power all while holding the throttle at the same position. I wonder if these new ESC can handle the speed motor because mine can not even with a better battery. Kinda bummed
Nice video, thanks for the Info. Frustrating that they've got rid of the full drag brake functionality, but good to know that in the low gear it does manage to hold itself on a slope well enough that we can live without it for some driving!
Yea the lightweight of the rig + high gear ratio stop it on the slopes without drag brake.
Thanks for looking into this, I know supplier problems effect things, but FMS is selling the new release at the same price with less features, this truck seemed like a perfect balance of crawling and bashing with the original radio and receiver, but with the new radio it's hard to buy knowing the original releases had more features, thanks again, this was super helpful
Just gotta confirm with the seller if they have the new or old radio. 😁
Supplier problems no management problems yes
These features are good for a crawler functions not basher! The drag brake is too much especially with a speed motor! That's why FMS fixed this problem with a new system! The V2 electronics doesn't have that drag brake problem and makes it A LOT more enjoyable to drive! FMS didn't go cheap on the Max Smasher's electronics, it's improved!
@@ectorvalle4059 you could turn off drag just a thought
@@lgrc6120 that's the thing, even when you "turn it off" it's not really off. That's what sucks about it. It's meant for a crawler nothing more. FMS realized this and changed it to an ESC that work best for bashing. People are upset because they don't know of this issue unless they've experienced it personally like I have.
I've had a V1 for a couple weeks with NO complaints . It's a blast in a nearly dark living room . So smooth and quite .
It sucks we got a down grade but I feel it can do pretty much the same with the exception of more lights. Thanks for looking into it!
You could put a WPL RES-V3 on if you want drag brake. And it has sound
How fast do they ship? Howl log does it take
Great video Ed ! Keep them coming bro!!
I've never had the v1 electronics. Can someone please confirm that the v1 electronics don't allow you turn off drag brake? It seems like I watched some reviews that shows the drag brake being completely turned off with the v1 electronics. If that's so, then v1 would be the best of both worlds... on when you want it, or off when you don't. Also, sounds like the Power Wagon has been shipping with v2 electronics, too. And the PW isn't a basher, but a crawler. If that's the case, FMS certainly didn't do it just to make the Smasher better since it was across both lines.
You need to read ur manual on how to set the drag brake on the remote. The drag brake it programed into the esc it dont matter what gear ur in. The drag brake applies reverse current to ur motor. It deff works on the v2 and is a noticable diffrence turning it on and off from the transmitter. I can tell from ur video you never had the drag brake set on ur remote. You double tap the top right button. Ur led will flash hit throttle+ itll beep double tap the top right bitton again and itll set ur drag brake 100 percent. The whole process and diff setting are in the manual but the drag brake works phenominal on the v2 smasher. Huge diffrence having it on or off
it's a monster truck, no one wants drag brake on a monster truck. plus this video isn't about drag brake.
Drag brake does not apply reverse current to the motor. That's not how it works
There is drag brake settings on the V2.
Still a awsome RC !! Much better buid quality than a lot of other.
A lot of other companies lie about many things I guess it's normal
Yeah they did not fit on the new one drag break , which is annoying definetly was better the old controller on the first batch
The only thing that switch does is shift the servo into high, neutral, and low. It has nothing to do with the motor at all.
there are more things than that
Correct the servo changes the gear ratio from low to high..the motor always spins at the same rpm ..if the motor speed changes on the switch there would be no need for a gearbox 🤦
I DON'T want drag brake on my Max Smasher! It's a basher, why would I want drag brake?! I converted my Butcher into a Max Smasher and I hate it due to the drag brake! I bought a Max Smasher with the V2 radio and ESC and I love it! WAY BETTER!!!! Converting the other back to the Butcher. V1 is a crawler set up, not meant for bashing!
I wanted it for both though, I thought getting the original radio and having all those options kind of gave you the best of both worlds, and made the original release the perfect all-round vehicle, you could have just changed some tires and wheels and had a perfect entry level crawler, either way, I ordered two, one for me and one for my daughter, I hope we're not disappointed, I like the fact that there's a low speed gear which gives her a chance to learn how to drive
Every company states that "products can change without notice". No one remembers this growing up? Come on let's be real!!
Interesting.. I don’t really care though I’m still getting these for my sand I for Christmas

Good info. video
🔵🔵🔵👍👍👍😀😀😀🔵🔵🔵
Monster truck with drag brake?
Who is trying crawl with open diffs? 🤣
haha exactly
There is plastic lockers included inside the box to lock the front & rear differential to crawl, so yeah it is also a crawler too.
I sent my max smasher back and will not go back to FMS
I feel cheated and lied to... Waited for reviews then they change and lie to us all
We needed drag for high gear ?
Wait. As you can see, you do not need drag brake bro to hold on the steep slopes bro
Sorry for negativity but have lost money now due to being decieved
@@lgrc6120 no. Drag brake does not help with front brake wheelie. What you need is Forward Reverse only that is available on the V1.
Check out the comments by others. There are many who don't want the drag brake too because max smasher is a basher
@@EdwardChew thanks for ur time stay safe and keep up the information. I was decieved by FMS,undeniable
@@lgrc6120 you weren't deceived, you weren't informed! There's a difference. All these misinformed people think that they got ripped off by getting a V2 radio/ESC, but in reality it's a better setup! V1 setup has too much drag brake and makes it almost impossible to bash! It's unenjoyable! The V2 is the solution to that problem, but FMS failed to inform customers of the benefits of the new system! This IS the basher radio/ESC combo you want and need for the Max Smasher! Trust me the other system is for a crawler only! It's like the smt10 when it first came out. That monster truck came with a crawler ESC with drag brake and no one liked it so axial upgraded their ESC without drag brake. Same applies here! People should be thanking FMS for this new setup! Trust me!
V2 BLOWS my white one came V1 and is way way way better than my blue one that had V2 I had to take it out I could not stand it it's not about the stupid drag brake what about the issue of it shutting down if you go to do wheelies in reverse wheelies vice versa.
How much fms pay you 🤔 to sat itsgood
Hello as i said i bought it myself.
ruclips.net/video/sxYPY6lYGnQ/видео.html
That is a FMS battery issue! They have new battery with NO PCM in the battery circuitry! "Protective Circuit Module". Basically, it's the C rating discharge problems for the FMS when the speed motor is added to the smasher!
Lmao it has drag brake you have to set it
LMAO the guy who doesnt know remote V1 and V2
Has FMS ever told the truth?
Pretty disappointed with the v2 I got no drag brake at all on steep slopes truck had stuff in the tire and it doesn’t give you an option to do the forward reverse wheelies
Not going to fms anymore
Just get the Trx4m instead
no drag brake cause it's not a crawler
yea without that forward and immediate reverse. ahhhhh!
