How long Sequent or Longines or Casio (or FC and others) stay committed to actively supporting a mobile app is also worth considering. Because if the models aren’t selling or they go away, or the watch maker just loses interest in the tech, then that app won’t live forever either. It takes steady revenue and willpower to keep software solutions going forward.
I wouldnt worry aboit that too much, the more popular the brand, the more likely it is that there would be some unoficial apps made by the community for fhe community. Even pebble is alive (sort of) thanks to the community of users
Hopefully, in the next version they make the battery more accessible and easily replaceable (currently a LiPo battery, a rechargeable coin cell would be nice) and also have the crown function like a normal watch just in case the app go bust, at least it is functional as a watch.
Actually I still dont understand the appeal of smartwatches… they count ur steps? Ur phone too! They show meteo? Ur phone too! They show time? You ph… watch too!! Wtf do u really need a smartwatch???? Apple created the need (and there was a time I wanted one, but not necessarily an Apple watch…) and people just follow the trend
sleep monitoring (but you get bored with that pretty fast) and also being able to go for a jog without having to carry your phone with you and still getting your heart rate, running pace, and gps data (if you have built-in gps). Still, all that can be done (and done best) with a cheap smartband that you keep in your bedroom drawer just for that.
