Tough solar and multi band 6 are enough for me. They know we want a 5600/5610 with a MIP, it's be selling like hot cakes, but pretty sure they won't make it or in many years.
I completely agree. A G-Shock Square with an MIP display, and normal 5600 or 5610 functions plus vibrating alarm and hourly signal would suit me perfectly. Or a simpler GBD 200 would also be nice. In future videos please address the display size differences between the H5600 and the GBD 200. Thanks!
The issue with the stopwatch without the 1/100s should be the physical limitations of MIP refresh rate. They are not fast enough to “animate” the 1/100s time. That will take time for MIP display to mature further in the refresh rate department. May be not now but in the future. Knowing Casio is always innovating stuffs. I am sure they will find a way soon.
Who is this for? Me! Someone who loves wearing watches, love my mechanicals but cant go running with. I dont want the distraction of a smartwatch and dont want a fitness tracker on one and watch on the other hand. Want a gshock. So this is a best of both worlds
I bought it because i am a gshock square lover and always want a square gshock that have a heart monitor. This model is something that i wished for a long time. 😊
while they really tried to swing for the fences... I can't help but feel like I really would've just appreciated the classic square we've always known and loved being given the updated display like you mentioned towards the end (if it could also have Electro Luminescence, that'd be an extra little cherry).
Yup! I’m going for the MIP on the GBD-200-2ER (the fantastic blue version you reviewed!) I truly hope G-Shock listens to you and create a “normal” 5600 version with the MIP display 🤞🏼😄 (By the way, I suspect that, on the MIP displays, they don’t have a good enough refresh rate to display the 10th & 100th of a second … I’m looking into this further). Thanks for your insight and hope all is well in your neck of the woods 😊👍🏼
I got mine this week and absolutely love it! I love my gshock squares and I also have a smart watch that I use mainly at the gym. This is the best of both worlds! Let's face it, smart watches are basically wearable smartphones. This gshock does everything I want it to without any of the interruptions, PLUS this thing is actually designed to take a beating unlike smart watches. No fear of this getting damaged at the gym.
@@stfuplsok nah the GBD 200 would be a way better platform. It’s the perfect size the buttons are way more comfortable. It feels already set up for this it’s just missing the HR monitor. It’s also more modern looking.
Great honest review and I agree with you on Casio being behind in the smartwatch department. It's something that's bothered me for years when Casio releases a watch they either screw up on the display like people wanting a positive display but decide to release a watch in negative display. Or the just mess up the exterior design of a watch like the watch you reviewed for example.
I’ve had mine for four days now and it’s great. I was jonesing for a square, and also wanted to finally start tracking my health. As you say, win-win. I think it helps if you’re comfortable with using the app to get the most out of the tracking. Also, I haven’t had any issues with pressure marks.
hello, what about notifications, can you separate them? Or if you turn on connection you have to receive all the notifications that your phone is receiving? Did the update it?
I really appreciate your honest review especially knowing how much you love the Casio brand and GShock in general. Excellent review and hopefully GShock will see this and take a few pointers to heart when they make their next watch.
Yeah man, just like I said, all these tech companies keep shooting bricks. Casio could’ve had a hit by just updating the display, but no, they don’t wanna do something that easy. Thank you for the review!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR I’ve been thinking about this ever since watching your video, and I have to say I agree, they aren’t going to compete with the big fitness smartwatch brands at this point. Even their most advanced fitness smartwatch is not as useful or user-friendly as the other big brands like Garmin, even if it has more water resistance.
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR i wanted this because i work in hazardous gas zones and true smart watches are not permitted: this probably isnt either but it would pass the visual inspection 😂 and i want step tracking
Great vid and honest review MWC! Honestly, Casio lost me at the word "charger" on this one. I love the square. I'm literally wearing a 5610 as I write this. But in this case, I'll keep waiting for a "regular" square with a MIP display. Keep the fantastic vids coming!
I wonder what is the problem with the smart watch function? I am looking for my first smart watch function to be honest but I find it is not for everyone, wonder whyyy..
@@nizangkerplunkbecause people says that smart watches looks ugly for some reason but it’s alright for the smart watches but am in mechanical watch and g-shocks
@@AmateurPhotographer12 yeah me too. I think other smart watches that looks like Apple or Samsung kind of that is ugly. But this is Casio smart watch that looks like G-shock except it is fully digital (not very different) to me.
Those recessed adjust buttons were an easy fix. I just bought an old used square for cheap, and swapped out the short buttons on 3 of my squares, for the longer ones.. Plus all the extra screws (which go for roughly $20 USD per set of 4), case back, module, etc.
Wow! Just wow! I almost pulled the trigger on this. I love my squares because I can treat em like a pimp on a blimp! I currently use a tracker and a g-shock. This looked promising. Why this and not a Garmin? Because at 200m water resistance, I can go diving and not think twice about it. But Garmin has the Descent G1 and mk2. Rated at only 100m, they claim they are for diving. But I've been skeptical. Still, I'll likely pick up the G1 now. The shroud thing is just embarrassing, Casio. WTF were you thinking? And WTH wants a paw print on their arm that looks like one toe was yanked off? Fail. Thanks for the honest review. I'd been looking at the GBD 200 or the GBX 200 as the next addition before I heard about this release. Man, I'm heartbroken. I feel like Casio just kicked us all in the who-who-dillies.
I've wanted a step counter on a square for a long time. I think the 5610, when it was upgraded to 5610u, should've had this feature added - which fuelled my excitement, a few months ago, by the news of the imminent release of this square. Seems Casio are testing the water, I reckon this is an experimental Gshock. It shows the iconic square is still the heartbeat of Gshock. Doubtlessly with time & refinements, future releases of squares will become smarter. This is just the beginning. As for the price - it's fair, though I've 4 Gs & that's enough for me, (this year), so I don't intend to order.
5610u was 40 years in the making. This new ones seems like a beta...problems with software etc...I can s the future here esp wit MIP. But its not around the corner YET
I own the GBD200 and use it as my regular watch. the display readability is simply amazing. I tried the 5600, but it wasn't really for me. I do like the slightly more modern look of the gbd200 (black). I think it looks like an evolution of the regular 5600 make. I don't use the smart features, turnt off bluetooth and notifications. The only thing is use is the step counter. Which is just a neat feature to know how you're doing - but I don't sync it anywhere. The watch will display a full week of steps (kind of) and thats enough for me. The bigger buttons on the gbd200 are a blessing and I would also suggest that Casio should make a MIP display version w/o any smart features for the 5600 makes and a reduced gbd version too. Until then enjoy your current G-Shock watches - they are nice - arent't they!?! :)
I agree. All I wanted was a G square with an MIP display, tough solar and multiband 6. I have no use for any of those other features and don't like the thickness that the heart rate sensor adds since I wouldn't ever use it. As for the 3 requirements I do have, I would even be willing to sacrifice tough solar for a battery version that I might have to swap out every couple of years as long as it had MB6 and the MIP display. All we can do is hope though I suppose.
Very interesting , honest and funny review of this model . My question is : could be possible to adapt the MIP display on basic non smart square g shock , eventually with ten years battery ? If it is , why Casio don't realise it' s time to leave the traditional obsolete display ?
I have a few smart watches. The recharchable batteries do not last forever. Be prepared to have to replace the battery at some point. So on this watch, does the watch battery just drop in or is it soldered in?
Great video and Thanks a million! I agree with you. I honestly wish they would just have a standard G-Shock Square with just the MIP Display...no "smart" health features or bluetooth. The "pawprint" is a definite turn off too. The only thing worthwhile is the rechargeable battery. I think I will go for the GBD200 instead. Same MIP Display, but not as thick!
Hi Russell, Thanks for putting out this video. I totally appreciate that this is a watch that fills the gap for people who want a fitness tracker (polar) but with the look and durability of the classic square g-shock. To purist G-shock lovers, I see this is a no go. For me however, I love the fact that I can go to the gym, even swim and have a wearable and durable watch with the best negative display on the market for every day casual wear all in one. I wear my metal g-shock for tennis and gym all the time, but it's a time only watch. I like that it measures my fitness stats, including the heart rate, (polar is the best in the business). I was hopeful I didn't think I needed another watch, but now I have to likely buy another watch. I have a Fitbit, and a Garmin (The Garmin stopped working after one bang), so not only do I dislike them, they are also not durable, something ironical for a fitness watch lol. This watch will tick all the boxes for me. I do love your content, and value your entertaining and informative reviews. Best from Sydney, Greg
Thanks for being so fast reviewing the bew squared. Totally agree with your thoughs. This week I picked up a Garmin Instinct 2 Solar wich I feel is a much better option if you want a multi functionsport watch with capabilities and rugged uo as a G. Also it reminds me the Gulfman and I albsolute love it. i think Garmin has made a better "modern" G-shock with this model than Casio, it makes me feel sad.
I have a bit of a bone to pick with you sir. Two months ago I was happy camper buying my first automatic (Seiko 5) and fricking thrilled about it. Then you came into my life and turned it upside down. Since that I have bought Dw-5600UE already, already set my eyes on gw-5610UE and Ga-B2100 (green) and slowly developing a sort of an obsession on this particular watch (navy blue). Right now I'm constantly telling myself to wait until my current smartwatch to die until I can buy something to measure my heartrate. So thanks for bringing G-Shock into my life. My wife (and bank account) doesn't like it either, but my son wants my 5600. So win?
I went for the metal bezel one 😍😍 I absolutely love it 🔥🔥 it was a pain to upgrade the firmware but now is running sweet!!! 😍😍 On my wrist for 3 days straight ❤️
@@NoName-en9jp I fully charged the watch 3 days ago in two hours and still at max, I also enabled automatic light to 5 seconds, 24 hours HR monitoring, alerts and vibration… So far I am quite impressed.
The G Shock London store have these on sale for £183...at which point I think this watch represents a good deal. I bought the grey/blue model, and it looks great. The screen is super crisp (more so than the GBX), it has a great range of functions (small niggles being that you can only have one World time and the date can't be changed from the American MM/DD format)...I have basically put it on Airplane mode, am wearing it like a "normal" G Shock and will charge it in 9 months time
My -2 (teal) arrived Sunday. I have a GBD200, but this one will be my new exercise/gym watch. I like the configurable face. You can have a step counter, or heart rate in the top right corner of the main screen (@3:38, in place of the day of week.) On my walks, it of course does the step counting, but also gives notices at each 1-mile mark. In the gym, the heart rate monitor lets me know if I'm pushing too hard. I'd really like to see one with a reverse-MIP, so it looks like a positive-display LCD. I'm sure Casio will eventually offer MIP squares w/o the HR monitor, that sits lower to the wrist.
I agree, the GBD200 does all the useful things from this model for far less, and it has a front light button. I don't want to fumble for any button, especially a light button, when working out in low light conditions. That said, I do wish it also had charging and solar capabilities.
The big difference, I feel, is that because the DW-H5600 has a solar panel you don't have to keep turning on the auto-backlight every 6 hours. It's just the setting one time, and it stays like that forever. That REALLY irks me with the GBD-200.
As always, thank you MWC once again you've helped me save money with your honesty reviews. Love my Gs but I'm not going to waste money in something that feels so unfinished.
I've got a blue GBD-200 which has the best display and I'm very happy with it. The only thing is missing is maybe a solar. But personally just can't understand why people are obsessed with solar? GBD -200 It is a lot cheaper so chancing the battery every a few years what is wrong with that? And be honest how many of you guys are out there in the middle of a jungle and worrying one odd day your watch will run out of battery? These are all marketing tricks and we all fall into it! GBD -200 has the Bluetooth connection to your phone which means you get constantly have perfect date and time correction so don't need to connect a satellite for that! Plus it has the other features like step counter, trainer, phone notifications etc. Thanks for the review your are awesome @THE MAD WATCH COLLECTOR
Dead right mate - I am also waiting for a MIP in the Casio Oak GA-B2100 (Solar, Bluetooth, Analogue) but much bigger digital display across the bottom half, (mode dial moved to top left quadrant), with vibration- now THAT would be something. (Casio are like BMW - thousands of models hoping to suit everyone) I cannot read the fine stuff on the dial, nor press the buttons, nor hear the alarm in my GW-M5610.
Yep, this one's a big miss. Not terribly interested in so-called "smart" stuff on my wrist, sine the biggest thing that represents to me is One More Damned Thing to have to remember to keep charged. The two Casios in my collection (Edifice world-time chrono & Pro Trek) are Tough Solar set-and-forget (mostly), the rest various flavors of Seiko automatics, and that's pretty much how I'm keeping things.
I was really excited about these when they were first announced. I love the look of that oh so legible MIP display but I’m not at all interested in the smart watch features. This is a step beyond the GBD-200 which was too smart for me as it was. As you said, it’s not really clear who this is for. It’s too smart watch for traditional watch enthusiasts and not smart watch enough for someone looking for that kind of utility and features 🤷♂️ G Shock was so close to nailing what we want which is a MIP display on a regular Square. Come on G Shock! Give the people what they want! 😂 Fantastic show MWC 👏👏👏👏
I want a regular looking watch that I can wear to almost anything that's a little bit smart (step counter, heart rate monitor, sleep tracking) and I won't need to charge every 2 days. To top it all off, it's gshock, built for clumsy me. It's the perfect watch for me! 😁
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR I've just bought the one with the metal surround and the shroud isn't easy to come away. I've also watched other videos where they show you how to remove the shroud and it's not easy to do so! I have 25 shocks and for what it offers and it's low maintenance this watch offers good value for £189.
I think I will stick with my two 5610's tbh. It would be nice if they brought a 5610 out with just the new display like this watch. Keeping things simple is the key attraction to the 5610's as a has everything you really need. As you said there are many kinds of fitness watches you can buy out there and are cheaper. Good video but this G-Shock is not for me personally.
If it had got thinner, it would be interesting, but getting thicker is a step backwards i.m.o. irrespective of the display and is it really a 'G' shock when you can pull the shroud off?! Add the buttons and it's definitely not a winner in my book. Nice honest review.
Russell! You are absolutely right. I'll wait till they put that display in the old faithful. Also - (and probably no one has told you before) - you're fun to watch! ✌️❤️⌚
On fitness trackers and smartwatches, The heart rate monitor and sensors are usually flush with the case back , so it’s a huge problem for this G-Shock.
i was excited for this, until i saw the charger. then i knew this wasnt gonna be for me. if takling about the screen though, i feel they could have brought back something like the DW6600 with the new display and the smart stuff, thatwould make more sense
This is the best watch channel on RUclips by far. U have reignited my love for casio. I have bought 6 in the past week lol. AE 1200, AE 1300, 2 X G SHOCKS, A 163W and F 91w. And shopping for more 😂🤦♂️ keep the vids coming m8 👍
Found the channel through a search for this watch model. Great review of the watch. Really appreciate these types of reviews where people aren’t afraid to actually give an opinion on the product. Thanks!
I got the GBX-100-ER . Love it, just put it in airplane mode to stop the stupid notifications. It’s got MIP screen, step counter, a tide and sun/moon setting which is maybe a bit gimmicky unless you are a surfer but apart from that. All I could ask for is for it to be tough solar. But over a year in and the battery is still going strong
Casio executed this the wrong way. They have the GBD Series already for those kinds of things (just add the heart sensor in there and in she goes right?). This watch is for sure marketed for the collectors and modern G enthusiasts. But us OG Square lovers, we just want that New Square on that kind of display and we'll go bonkers on it. Great review always though.
i just want that display on a 5610u with a combi bracelet. i want the display only for it's clear visibilty at all angles. i don't want bluetooth, i don't want step tracking, i don't want to charge my watch with anything but solar. i don't want any smart features. just that screen with 5610u functionality.
I wear a smartwatch with the full fitness tracking suite, and best thing I've found to deal with wrist comfort is an elastic strap. The regular straps these things come with are never perfect, always either too tight like your wrist shows, or too loose and it doesn't work. Elastic has the give you need for good readings and comfort.
For those wanting faster updates on the MIP display, sorry it just can’t be done. Update faster than once per second and the display turns into a grey mush. The once per second update is the price you have to pay for the extreme contrast ratio. Very similar tech to e-reader displays, low power, high contrast, slow to update. That is just the way the tech works and won’t be changing any time soon. So a 5610 with MIP display, Multiband 6, Bluetooth, Tough Solar, but timing functions limited to whole seconds only is the best fans can ever get.
I have a GBX-100 and love the display but don't have much use for tide/sun/notification functions. Give me a bog-standard g-shock with the MIP display and I'm in! Take my money :)
I agree with your assessment!! A plain old 5600 (or 5610) with a MIP display is good enough for me!! I have 3 5600’s and 3 5610’s already, but I think I’d get my wallet out (“GET YA WALLET OUT!!”) for a MIP-display 5600 or 5610..
Great Analysis. Thanks for the Honest Review! I've got a GBD-200 I'm about to open and wear for review soon... and from your video, it looks like I made the right choice :)
Yes, Casio hasn't quite figured out how to integrate smart watch type features into their watches. I have a GBD-200 and I bought it because well that great G-Shock design and the MIP display really is nice and I was thinking it could be a decent G-Shock/health tracker/smartwatch....but....it's only a nice G-Shock. The smartwatch notifications are too clunky and don't have enough options within the app to be useful (so shut them off). And it's nice that it can track steps and running workouts but they exist in their own ecosystem so it's not useful unless you to other apps you might use for tracking and it's simply not as good as other options out there. So as mentioned a standard smartwatch or Garmin etc...will do a better job of health tracking if that's what you want. Bottom line is the extra features don't really work well enough to be included. The thing that is nice is the standard G-Shock things and the MIP being so legible. I don't think Casio has figured out how to use the MIP display optimally. I guess I saw this coming when this watch got announced. But I do agree a more simplified version of this could still be a great watch and top seller. Keep the MIP and solar. And remove the HR, fitness and smartwatch features which simply don't work well enough and you might have a winner. If you really want to add those types of features, you might have to go back to the drawing board because currently they are poorly integrated.
I just got this watch, and I love it 😂. I wanted a retro watch with modern functions and this is it. I only had it for a week, but haven’t had to charge it yet. The step counter and notifications do their job, and the reason I can’t do the Apple Watch is because I need a reliable device for sleep tracking and I’ve had that thing run out of battery mid sleep, and it’s just frustrating. I was wearing a Huawei GT watch for a few years and it’s basically perfect bar one thing, it has the charm of an aluminium cube. I’m not a hardcore g-shock square fan. I had one in the 90s for a bit, and right now I have another round looking g-shock, a Casio edifice and a Casio calculator watch, so I’m not the hardcore audience, but this is a fun watch. I wish basic smart features in normal looking watches was more of a thing.
i get that the HR sensor is uncomfortable and that menu is a nightmare, but if you can't ignore the step counter function of a GBX100 and just treat it like a regular square, then ur just looking for something to complain about. The watch isn't that expensive for a bluetooth model, the g-lide and step counter functions are just redundant extras, you can even fit a combi bracelet or 5600 bracelet to it if you want. I think it's the closest thing we have at the moment. It adds features without over complicating it. It just needs solar.
I completely understand what you're saying, but for me, I've always wanted a simple Casio that gets notifications, I love smartwatches, but always wanted something that wasn't so distracting, and I think this is finally it!
Just ordered it! I 've been waiting for long for a 'real' watch that I like the looks, can stay in my watch case for ever and that adds a heart rate monitor functionality.
Others have said they just wanted the display updated. I would add tough solar and bluetooth as well, without any of the distance tracking or heart monitoring.
OK here is my take on this watch, measure the real estate from inside the bezel, top to bottom, left to right. Now look at how much of that space has the actual display and of that how much has the numbers of the "time". Yeh! small number is a sea of usable area. There are a good many people, my self included who need glasses for close up work / reading. common casio, delete all that useless text, fill the area with a big display and use the display to make the numbers bigger. I do not want to have to put on reading glasses just to read the time!
Gw B5600 black raisin ❤...tough solar+ bluetooth + multiband + 20 bar+ clear display with date time and world clock with a back light button ...best purchase i made(170 dolar)...durable ,affordable, strong as fk and its gold panel display with black raisin is just the cherry ❤
I fully agree. This watch is neither fish nor fowl. If you want a fitness watch with a MIP display look at the Garmin Instinct series. The Instinct 2S does the job for me, and is more reasonably sized for a small wrist. Once I'm done exercising it's back to regular watches.
If the number of functions was the same as the GBD-200 this watch would have been a winner for sure. Unfortunately I learned early that this was more of a smart watch. I llove my GBD-200 but I don't use many of the extra functions as it is. I can't justify paying practically double because it's a square. It's a good looking watch but I'm completelly satisfied with my GBD-200. I think Casio were a tad overambitious with this one.
Waiting for the cheaper version without all the fitness fuctions that just add to cost, and weight, and thickness. Just want a normal square but with the updated screen.
Looks wise it's Nirvana but that mound on the back was my first worry As I already have and love my GBD-200 think I'll wait for the tough solar MIP square. I do fancy the heart and oxygen level features in my job as a bin man on wrist comfort is paramount plus its a rough job would defo loose that bezal shroud! Awesome review just saved me £260! 🙂👍
Excellent honest review. I agree with you, I wear a G-5600UE-1DR square G-Shock Tough Solar... I just want the same with a MIP display... It would be awesome! If I want a fitness tracking option I'd go for the Garmin Instinct 2X Solar
Well said - from someone who wears a Garmin 70% of the time this watch is so far below the standard set by garmin for a fitness tracker it pains me to see the features it has compared to a garmin. Not even a GPS! For that money it's an actual joke imo.
"I've been tagged by yogi bear!"" You inevitably crack me up every vid! Thank you for sharing your passion, your reviews, and keep it all in good fun, you bring a lot of joy to this hobby :)
I would click the video link at the end of the video... but most of the videos which come up i've already seen twice or more... No need to get stroppy mate.. HAHAHA!!! Love yer videos.. and yeah, although a G-shock square lover, i wouldn't buy this 5600, i went for the GBX100 over the GBD200 because I wanted the steel bezel. Regarding the 4 holding screws for the shroud, actually i wouldn't mind omitting those. Having lived with the GBX100 for a while, the screen is really hard to get rid of smudges and finger prints 100%, and taking off the shroud to clean out dirt and sand trapped underneath is a real pain in the arse on the GBX... that said, i think the shroud on this 5600 comes off a bit TOO easily. The lack of 1/100s on the stopwatch is unfortunate - i'm thinking CASIO missed the opportunity there - while MIP may not be able to handle the speed, but there isn't any reason why the stopwatch cannot count the 1/100s internally and then display it only when you press the stop/lap button.
I think Casio really shot themselves in the foot with this watch. I'm a 5610 wearer and saw this lovely mip display and wanted one. I do hiking and mtb-ing so thought the smart fit thingy may be good to use. The more I read about that side of it the more I thought it would be of use (I've had a few health issues recently so it'd be good to have). So then I start looking about (like somebody did below) and found that the Garmin Instinct 2 Solar is almost the same price but a much better watch. And it's temp, shock and water resistant. And it looks like a G-Shock..... So what Casio have done is build a sub par watch that the square enthusiasts won't touch nor will the folks wanting a smart outdoor watch. In fact (on reading Garmin forums) there's lots of G-Shock folks like me who have had their heads turned by Garmin after looking at the DW-H5600. So I bought the Instinct 2 Solar. And I'm sorry (and somewhat G-Shock ashamed) to say that it's brilliant....
The G-Shock 5600 is my favourite watch of all time, but THIS is NOT what most were expecting - a 'sports' orientated smart watch with a useless stopwatch?? What were they thinking? , just adding the MIP display and tough solar is ALL we need (and a PROPER stopwatch), all those crappy 'smart' features are pointless and are just not what G-Shocks are about. I guess I'll stick with my tough solar 5600 and my gbx100, both together are cheaper AND more appealing than this new model.
I feel like these new G-Shocks can catch a computer virus 😂. Great review, honestly one of the best ones I've watched from this channel. The square being so iconic and the fact that the cheaper dw5600 was discontinued it's really a big deal seeing how they are making such a broad leap into the future and pretty much changing the entire watch aside from the shape of the bezel. As a g-shock square collector myself I hope the traditional digital watch lcd display isn't thrown in the bin for the square model, it's part of the digital watch culture and has been for many years. With the new mip displays you're not building the same watch, just like a smartwatch with a color screen, yes that's the future but it just isn't reliability. With the mip display I've already noticed a dead pixel on my gbdh2000, I've had a dead pixel on my gprb-1000 rangeman as well. The power consumption isn't good either. It's nice they are testing these new things and I guess you can't change something without starting off somewhere. Again, great review and love the humor in every video. 😅
I was so excited when I heard about this watch. When I read it was a solar powered fitness watch, I thought that meant it could run indefinitely off solar, but the fact that it still needs a charger is a deal breaker for me. And the comfort issues with the heart rate monitor just further turns me off. Ultimately I really like the idea, but it just needs to be refined a bit more.
just want a regular 5600 with MIP display, tough solar, and Bluetooth. That would be a perfect G-Shock square for me!!!
What's the bluetooth used for?
@@squirrel_76automatically sets the clock
@@0x2fdseems like a lot just for that , if that’s the only reason I’d say no
same! Malaysia don't have that fancy tower to use multiband function, Bluetooth is a must for me, that's why my gmwb5000 really hard to replace
Tough solar and multi band 6 are enough for me. They know we want a 5600/5610 with a MIP, it's be selling like hot cakes, but pretty sure they won't make it or in many years.
Finally a channel that does actual reviews rather than reading over the product info page!
Very kind thank you my friend! I’m just a Casio lover like you!;)
I completely agree. A G-Shock Square with an MIP display, and normal 5600 or 5610 functions plus vibrating alarm and hourly signal would suit me perfectly. Or a simpler GBD 200 would also be nice. In future videos please address the display size differences between the H5600 and the GBD 200. Thanks!
motion sensor to turn on light when you look at the watch too would be nice to have
Vibration yes thanks!
I want a colourful mip display like Garmin
This is a shitty reason as my Icw-m100tse-1ajf measures 1/100s while not animating that. It just shows the detailed time after you have pressed stop.
@@NFS-shadethen buy a Garmin ....
@@Jeffrey_van_der_PostExactly what I thought
Who is this for? Me! Someone who loves wearing watches, love my mechanicals but cant go running with. I dont want the distraction of a smartwatch and dont want a fitness tracker on one and watch on the other hand. Want a gshock. So this is a best of both worlds
I’d love to see a GXW56 king in mip display.
Thanks for watching my friend
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Watching... it's what we do and what we wear. :)
So the EL can decay? No thanks
@@zgSH4DOW nah, I prefer the stronger light even if it doesn't last as long - I'll always take EL over any other back light offering
@Paperfiasco EL would look crap on a MIP display, LEDs are superior.
Yup! I’m going for the MIP on the GBD-200-2ER (the fantastic blue version you reviewed!)
I truly hope G-Shock listens to you and create a “normal” 5600 version with the MIP display 🤞🏼😄
(By the way, I suspect that, on the MIP displays, they don’t have a good enough refresh rate to display the 10th & 100th of a second … I’m looking into this further).
Superb stuff my friend! Glad you are enjoying it!
exactly i got mine on customised it
I appreciate the effort from Casio but I think I'll hang on to my gbd-200. Great show as always.
Good idea!
I was hoping they would have added these features in the GBD 200 instead.
@@VJ_The_Vigilant then it would be the DW-H5600-1. duh
@@stfuplsok nah the GBD 200 would be a way better platform. It’s the perfect size the buttons are way more comfortable. It feels already set up for this it’s just missing the HR monitor. It’s also more modern looking.
yeah it's also cheaper and I used it mainly for the time.
"I've been tagged by Yogi Bear!" Pure class, love your channel!
I don’t think they need to have a smart watch in their line up!
They need to release a thinner version with no heart monitor, same display in 5610 case with 5610m functionality
Agreed!
GBD-200 rules! Bought the lime version a year ago thanks to your review and it's still my goto watch for sports 'n' stuff. Great watch!
Is it still lime? I heared it gets really smudgy after a while
Clearing notifications is a slow, frustrating pain in the ass though.
I wonder if this one is better?
Great vid and honest review MWC! Honestly, Casio lost me at the word "charger" on this one. I love the square. I'm literally wearing a 5610 as I write this. But in this case, I'll keep waiting for a "regular" square with a MIP display. Keep the fantastic vids coming!
Thank you my friend!!
The smart features make charging it well worth it
I fell in love with the screen but the moment I heard the smart watch functions… no thank you. Thanks for the review, great job as usual.
Thanks!
Thanks to your review I bought this watch and love it so much!!!! Can't put it down.
Don’t be down my friend. This screen will be rolling out on a few more G’s by the end of the year trust me!
LOOVE the "click it" part and the joke
Thank you!
All we can do is hope though I suppose.
agree just wanted regular g shock features with the display upgrade
Can you show a battery replacement and a teardown video of the watch?
Very interesting , honest and funny review of this model .
My question is : could be possible to adapt the MIP display on basic non smart square g shock , eventually with ten years battery ?
If it is , why Casio don't realise it' s time to leave the traditional obsolete display ?
thanks for the GBD200 reference. I'm thinking getting my first Casio, and I think this is the way to go.
The 5610 or 5000u is the way brother
I have a few smart watches. The recharchable batteries do not last forever. Be prepared to have to replace the battery at some point. So on this watch, does the watch battery just drop in or is it soldered in?
Good question! The caseback is screened in so I’d imagine you could get at the battery!
Think it’s a good choice my friend, to enjoy the MIP screen without spending too much!
Don’t be sad my friend! I don’t think Casio need to do a smart watch personally!
I definitely agree with you. I bought it and am now going to return it. I am a g-shock lover.
Congrats my friend!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR thank you and you ☺️👏👏 Great video as always 🔥
How is your battery life?
@@NoName-en9jp I fully charged the watch 3 days ago in two hours and still at max, I also enabled automatic light to 5 seconds, 24 hours HR monitoring, alerts and vibration…
So far I am quite impressed.
where did u buy the metal bezel? from USA? which link or website
Agree!!😊
The big difference, I feel, is that because the DW-H5600 has a solar panel you don't have to keep turning on the auto-backlight every 6 hours. It's just the setting one time, and it stays like that forever. That REALLY irks me with the GBD-200.
Prefer the gbx-100, but yeah, this is a hard pass.
As always, thank you MWC once again you've helped me save money with your honesty reviews. Love my Gs but I'm not going to waste money in something that feels so unfinished.
I hear you my friend!
04:00 gotta agree with Russ, I'm kinda diggin' the shroudless look! think it looks cool without it tbh.
Hahahaha
Mine arrived yesterday, cracking bit of kit indeed. Wears perfectly on my 7.5 inch wrist.
Congrats my friend!
Dead right mate - I am also waiting for a MIP in the Casio Oak GA-B2100 (Solar, Bluetooth, Analogue) but much bigger digital display across the bottom half, (mode dial moved to top left quadrant), with vibration- now THAT would be something. (Casio are like BMW - thousands of models hoping to suit everyone)
I cannot read the fine stuff on the dial, nor press the buttons, nor hear the alarm in my GW-M5610.
It’s not a fun but of kit to play with , it’s annoying! ;)
Agreed! Will wait for the time/stopwatch/timer/dual or world time/alarm -"only" MiP square
Cheers my friend!
It’s too smart watch for traditional watch enthusiasts and not smart watch enough for someone looking for that kind of utility and features 🤷♂️
G Shock was so close to nailing what we want which is a MIP display on a regular Square. Come on G Shock! Give the people what they want! 😂
Fantastic show MWC 👏👏👏👏
I’m baffled to know who this watch is for still Gareth! I’d love to see the marketing research !
I want a regular looking watch that I can wear to almost anything that's a little bit smart (step counter, heart rate monitor, sleep tracking) and I won't need to charge every 2 days. To top it all off, it's gshock, built for clumsy me. It's the perfect watch for me! 😁
You made pulling off the shroud too easy when it isn't that easy to come off! 😂
@Happy-Me. Definitely easy
Cheers Simon!
Congrats on hitting the 100k views on this one. Well done!
i was excited for this, until i saw the charger. then i knew this wasnt gonna be for me. if takling about the screen though, i feel they could have brought back something like the DW6600 with the new display and the smart stuff, thatwould make more sense
Hmmm yeah I need to check that out!
I like it is a nice fit band plus a square... Lets see how the data compares to the garmins

Yep! Thanks for watching my friend!
i just want that display on a 5610u with a combi bracelet. i want the display only for it's clear visibilty at all angles. i don't want bluetooth, i don't want step tracking, i don't want to charge my watch with anything but solar. i don't want any smart features. just that screen with 5610u functionality.
Great test and great British accent you have it reminds to my good old days 🤣 Just placed order for the watch Cheers❤
Thank you my friend!
This is the one G-SHOCK your gonna find the right fit as it has double the amount of holes which are close together!
Finally!!!!!!!!!!!
Yup, my thoughts exactly. Should have just updated the display on 5610.
:(
Thanks for being honest and raise the issues that this watch has. Very hard to please the GShock and Fitness crowd at the same time.
Spot on review. I am looking for a standard square with the MIP display, as you say. Please, Casio!
Thank you my friend!!
i get that the HR sensor is uncomfortable and that menu is a nightmare, but if you can't ignore the step counter function of a GBX100 and just treat it like a regular square, then ur just looking for something to complain about.
Very cool. I have the GBD-200-2JF and love it.
Listen think yourself lucky it’s not 1963 as you’d never see your watch!
Well done mentioning the stopwatch limitation. Cheers bro.
I got this watch, its the best watch Ive ever had
Good for you my friend!
Thank you for your review, very helpful.
Absolutely agree matey! Not sure they listened to anyone!
Waiting for the cheaper version without all the fitness fuctions that just add to cost, and weight, and thickness. Just want a normal square but with the updated screen.
Looks wise it's Nirvana but that mound on the back was my first worry
As I already have and love my GBD-200 think I'll wait for the tough solar MIP square. I do fancy the heart and oxygen level features in my job as a bin man on wrist comfort is paramount plus its a rough job would defo loose that bezal shroud! Awesome review just saved me £260! 🙂👍
When you say don’t buy something your usually correct 👍🏾!! You had me at removable shroud lol
Excellent honest review. I agree with you, I wear a G-5600UE-1DR square G-Shock Tough Solar... I just want the same with a MIP display... It would be awesome!
If I want a fitness tracking option I'd go for the Garmin Instinct 2X Solar
Great review! I was looking to understand better how this watch actually feels like and now I fully understand it.
Love your channel!
Well said - from someone who wears a Garmin 70% of the time this watch is so far below the standard set by garmin for a fitness tracker it pains me to see the features it has compared to a garmin. Not even a GPS! For that money it's an actual joke imo.
If they make a standard square with that display I'd buy one IMMEDIATELY 😊

I just love your videos man! ....whatever you say! 🤩
Very kind my friend!
100% Dan!
Great review fella appreciate the honesty, was really looking forward to this but now think I’ll keep the gw5000 and Garmin Tactix Charlie.
Thanks Phil!
Ultimately I really like the idea, but it just needs to be refined a bit more.
actually garmin instinct 2x solar is just mind blowing. low profile look and a confirm apple watch killer.
