I think the fact that “Boss Baby” and “Prince of Egypt” are two movies that came from the same studio is something that will forever haunt me and I’m just gonna have to cope with that.
I think that they also take place in the same universe, because prince of Egypt is based on a book called “the Bible” and in boss baby there’s a scene where boss baby mentions he is “baby Jesus”. Jesus is from the same book as prince of Egypt. This leads me to believe that boss baby is either in the same universe as prince of Egypt, or that the Bible exists as a book in the boss baby universe. Maybe in the next movie they will have a crossover.
“Oscar nominated The boss baby” the same year both A silent voice and your name were eligible is still the most iconic thing to happen in this industry
One thing that i can not agree with anyone is 2010 best animation nomination. That title of best animated movie of 2010 goes to Dissaperance of Haruhi Suzumia and i will fight you on that one.

That’s where Dreamworks has a leg up on Disney, when Disney makes a bad movie it sticks and everyone hates it. But when Dreamworks makes a bad movie, we either forget about or we love it. The point is bad Dreamworks movies are better than bad Disney movies.
The Dreamworks method of A team and B team movies is honestly pretty ingenious. You have your best team working on the big shot movies that establish the brand name and market but ultimately cost more / are riskier, while your less talented team works on movies that are designed quickly to turn an easy profit for funding the latter series. Occasionally the B team even manages to outperform your A team, as seen with Shrek
Kung Fu Panda 2 did repressed memories and ptsd so well. They didn’t make Po have a mental breakdown the first time he started remembering what happened to the other pandas, instead they had him be in shock over what he had be so scared to remember over the years. They showed trauma in a realistic way that didn’t make the victim look crazy or overdramatic, and for that it will always be one of my favorite Dreamworks movies.
Behold, Perry the Platypus, the autotuneinator! You see, Grandma Doofenscmertz sang so much that she got crushed by a pillar and didn't notice because of her singing. By auto tuning every singer in the world I will rise to power and take over the Tri-State-Area!
Coming back here knowing that Shrek was deemed “Culturally Significant” enough to be preserved by the Library of Congress and, by extension, the U.S. Government.
Yes. And I'm totally insulted that Madagascar 3 got a better rating than the Croods. It's understandable, but I despised Madagascar even as a kid. It had an excellent theme about embracing responsibility, but it took multiple watches to catch it, and the way Valka just abandons her family not giving a damn what happens b'coz she was to lazy to, idk, adapt her argument create peace a lot earlier. No you can tell the only problem was the story, everyone working on it (the score, animation, and even the voice actors) put their best into it, and if they had a better story I guarantee you it would be incredible
Speaking of movies hated so much they are comparable to Illumination, Schaffrilas mentioned that Cars 2 was awful by Illumination standards. He even said that he'd rather rewatch Minions over the worst Pixar movie.
honestly you can tell its dreamworks because of how self ingulgently stupid it is, like only dreamworks has that freddy got fingered waste of time vibe in their weaker movies, illumination is just souless corporatism in general.
I wish my ancestors were as smart as grug. Also there are literal rainbow tigers and flying turtles, how do you justify watching it in a history class? Idk.
Kung Fu Panda 3 is the best in the franchise. In Kung Fu Panda 2 (the favorite of most people), Lord Shen attacked the panda village, but there was nobody to save them. In Kung Fu Panda 3, Kai attacks the village and Po has to save them. You cannot say that's not the most genius idea for a third installment of this franchise. One thing that people hate about this movie was the “disappointing” villain defeat. But I don’t think people exactly understand it. Po had the chi of all the pandas and his own chi. Kai usually takes the masters’ bodies along with the chi, but he didn’t when Po gave his chi to Kai. That’s why it was too much. He took the chi of a whole village pandas and a “Kung Fu Panda” at a time without their physical forms. It makes sense, people overthink it. Also, at the beginning, Oogway told Kai "The more you take, the less you have." Then what happens? Kai dies from taking too much. Also, Po was taught kung fu with food. Then he taught the village of pandas with their talents. The whole "turn you into you" thing wasn't a callback to the beginning of the movie, it was a callback to the beginning of the franchise. The first Kung Fu Panda. Most people like Shen the most, but General Kai is the best villain in my opinion. He may not have been intimidating, but he had really great villain lines. When Shifu said "Oogway, forgive me." Kai held up the chi of Oogway and said "What do you say, Oogway? Do you forgive him?" Also, his music was obviously the best villain music in existence. Not to mention his weapon, fight style, or entrances. Also, the first two villains were chased by Po and the Furious Five. But Kai would find Po no matter where he went. Po even said “There’s nowhere to run.” Kai felt very unstoppable, which was kind of intimidating. Another thing I like about Kai is that he was the only villain that never underestimated Po. When Tai Lung met Po and found out he’s the Dragon Warrior, he said “You? Him? He’s a panda. You’re a panda. What are you going to do, big guy? Sit on me?” When Lord Shen met Po, he asked Soothsayer “Do you actually believe this is the warrior destined to defeat me?” But when General Kai met Po, he said “You must be the Dragon Warrior.” I don't even need to talk about comedy, action, or animation in this movie. Everyone already agrees that comedy, action, and animation in Kung Fu Panda 3 is better than in first two movies. A lot of people complain that the Furious Five didn't do much but I think I need to remind people that this movie is in the Kung Fu Panda franchise. Not "The Adventures of the Furious Five" franchise. I was happy seeing the Furious Five get a lot of spotlight it Kung Fu Panda 2, the movie wouldn’t be half as great without that. But I am extremely happy that they didn’t do the same thing for Kung Fu Panda 3. But I don't get how people think this is the worst or second best in the franchise. I think it's better than Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2 combined.
@@KFP_Fanboy its great but it feels like it's talking down to its audience. Kai feels like a joke villain. The lines were pretty generic tbh. Also the argument that this is po's story is pretty lame. Its just it feels like the furious five were shifted to minor characters. It does not mean we want the movie to be full of them, it's just they were treated as jokesters here. Plus KFP 2 was extremely emotional. KFP 3 was great but it just feels like the lessons were for kids or 12 year old tweens.
@@KFP_Fanboy That's a respectable opinion and you make several good points but I still think Po's dad is a weak character, Kai is a lot less intimidating even if he does have good lines, but the previous movies' villains spoke by action. They told less, and showed more how monstrous they are, and their backstories are very cleverly told through flashbacks. Kung Fu Panda 3 spends a lot of time messing around with the cute and cuddly pandas which does develop the area and atmosphere, but it does come off as filler sometimes. The action and morals are still excellent, but the inner focus scene in the second and Po's first look at the inside of the scroll are even more memorable and profound in my personal opinion. Po coming to terms with who he is, the scars of his past and the duty destiny has for him is moving and breathtaking. All 3 had to do was introduce him to his long lost kind and have him defend them and be there for his biological dad. It does that and much more but in my mind the first two are still better.
@@oggythebluecat5071 But I don’t want the Furious Five to be as important as they were in Kung Fu Panda 2. I liked Kung Fu Panda 2 second best, I thought it was great how they made the Furious Five so important, but it wouldn’t work out for 3.
My 3 year old son wanted to watch Turbo again one day, but he couldn't remember the title so he just called it "snail wants to go fast". It's pretty accurate.

I really thought the action and comedy was the best in this movie too. When Po gave Kai the chi, he didn't exactly give it to Kai. He gave it to the masters that he took the chi from. That's why he yelled "Wait, that's too much!" Also, at the beginning, Oogway told Kai "The more you take, the less you have." Then what happens? Kai dies from taking too much. Also, Po was taught Kung Fu with food. Then he taught the village of pandas with their talents. I think it's better than Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2 combined.
The fact that they actually consulted people of the Three Abrahamic Faiths (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) to get the most accurate version of The book of Exodus for Prince of Egypt is amazing in my book and I was turning tf up at it's number one status. Also you had me cracking up at the Penguins of Madagascar Christmas bit.
Had they asked for an Islamic perspective, they wouldn't have made images of Moses or his brother, as they were prophets and it is not allowed to depict images of prophets.
Hami H true that but they can make images of everyone else besides the Islamic version is better as Pharaoh is more like a father figure to Musa (A.S) than a brother which adds a different moral to the story
It’s entertaining when he talks about movies that genuinely hates, but when he talks about movies that he doesn’t just love, but the movies he considers true works of art are the reasons I love this channel. When he gets so soft spoken, you can hear the passions his man has for the art of animation.
You mean for film in general? He talks about animated movies more because that's what everybody is into nowadays but in reality he loves live action more.
Honestly, Jack Black’s acting for Po is amazing. That’s to be expected for JB, though, he was really the only voice actor I could accept when they revealed the Mario movie voice cast.
I just think the entire movie has a stacked cast. I understand people are skeptical about Chris Pratt as Mario, but I am intrigued to see how well it comes out
@@TimTam_3 I think it has to go with not because Chris Pratt is not good, because by all means what Chris Pratt does, he does a damn good job at it. I think it just has to do with the fact that Chris Pratt is just being casted on..... every main character. Like it makes it feel like other actors aren't given a chance, especially since Charles Martinet was right there, but granted I don't know if Martinet said anything about voicing in the movie for a full 2 hours. Like Pratt's gonna be Garfield, and some leak about an upcoming Crash Bandicoot movie Chris Pratt is gonna be Crash... but the latter should be taken with a grain of salt. The point being Pratt's just being casted everywhere.
I remember my dad absolutely loving Rise of the Guardians primarily because they made Santa Russian and they gave him really badass tattoos on his arms that said "Naughty" and "Nice"

Croods is not that bad and I went in with low expectations. It's good enjoyment and the fact that schrafillras made an everybody should be dead joke is really ironic considering the movie makes fun of the dad for doing that.

The switch from "The Prince of Egypt is the Magnum Opus of Dreamworks" to "The Penguins of Madagascar is the best movie of all time" cannot be undersold
The Penguins are the best thing to come out of the Madagascar franchise. The christmas special is awesome, the TV show is awesome, the movie is even better than all 3 Madagascar movies
I had it as part of a double DVD set paired I think with the first movie. Its good. I always remembered when Private sees the lonely polar bear and says "aw he looks so sad".

I had to sit through VeggieTales episodes in HIGH SCHOOL for Christian private school chapel. The Prince of Egypt is easily the best piece of Abrahamic religious media in existence
I literally went to watch Mr Peabody and Sherman right after this, and I still wasn't prepared to be that invested in their relationship within the first twenty minutes.
I tried to watch that movie but I hated Penny too much to get more than halfway through it. Does she repent? Is she justifiably punished for her sins? Should I watch the rest, knowing she eats her crow or her just desserts?
The acting is always so bad! Or it looks like it was filmed on someone's phone. Or the plot isn't super great. The best Christian movies are the ones that are "okay." I'd personally watch more Christian or even religious movies more if it looked like they put more effort in it than have what seems like a high schooler write a script and then film the movie on their phone and cast their friends, who are probably in at least intro to theater.

I think that HTTYD having a disabled protagonist who isn't completely hindered by it is absolutely amazing. It is a movie that is targeted towards kids and I can't think of any other movie that stars an amputee and is for children. It's so important for kids to see characters like Hiccup
@@wolfiegames1572 you’re right but Star Wars is slightly less kid friendly then HTTYD. Also Hiccup is very affected by his disability whereas Luke just kind of sticks a robot hand on his wrists and goes about as normal. I guess I’m also thinking that this is good for this generation of kids
As someone who is religiously Christian and comes from a Jewish heritage, the Prince of Egypt does the story of Moses with respect, honor, and beauty that should not have been possible.
Dude I cried so hard how you described The Prince of Egypt. I watched it in theaters when it first came out and it’s been my favorite animated film ever since. And this is coming from someone who grew up during the era of Disney renaissance.

I want to add to monster's vs aliens from a 3D modeler point of view. Bob in monster's vs aliens, yes bob, has one of, if not the most complicated rigs in 3D history. It took the guy 2 years just to make the rig for bob. Btw the rig is the bones that let him move for those who don't know. Bob is such a historical landmark for 3D modelers everywhere because of the rigging done. All of this was done, on a blob of slime call bob, that is voiced by Seth Rogan
I loved Monsters Vs Aliens when I was a kid! I think the thing that made it special for me was the fact that the main character was a woman that other than the "30ft woman" monster-stereotype, honestly could have been played by a man. The emotional stakes of loving somebody more than they value you back, coupled with being rejected for being different is probably something most people can relate to, in some capacity.

Dreamworks' bad movies have 2 categories:
-So bad no one likes to talk about them
-So bad they are loved
That’s where Dreamworks has a leg up on Disney, when Disney makes a bad movie it sticks and everyone hates it. But when Dreamworks makes a bad movie, we either forget about or we love it. The point is bad Dreamworks movies are better than bad Disney movies.
Factually, I’d take the latter category.
Boss Baby, Shark tale and Bee Movie are in the 2nd category! 😁
@@nato.8169 shriek the third is the one outlier. Kinda fucked shrek for a while
Grug moment
The Dreamworks method of A team and B team movies is honestly pretty ingenious. You have your best team working on the big shot movies that establish the brand name and market but ultimately cost more / are riskier, while your less talented team works on movies that are designed quickly to turn an easy profit for funding the latter series. Occasionally the B team even manages to outperform your A team, as seen with Shrek
Disney are the same, where the A team made Pocahontas and the B team made The Lion King.

There’s no ranking needed, they’re all #1
I think it’s time we suggest this for his next director filmography ranking.
Alternate title - "Every DreamWorks Movie Ranked: The Movie"
Every DreamWorks movie ranked: the movie: the Rant
If we get to do it ourselves, it becomes: “Every Dreamworks Movie Ranked: The Movie: The Game”
Yes. And I'm totally insulted that Madagascar 3 got a better rating than the Croods. It's understandable, but I despised Madagascar even as a kid. So it's shocking
#2) 37:20 I like that the Bee movie includes consequences for the main character's course of action, (based on personal bias, ignorance, and impulse). And it has a little subplot about the importance of community. It's underrated.
#3) The themes in Train Your Dragon 2 are what turn me off/on. It had an excellent theme about embracing responsibility, but it took multiple watches to catch it, and the way Valka just abandons her family not giving a damn what happens b'coz she was to lazy to, idk, adapt her argument create peace a lot earlier. I swear half of it was her not wanting to embrace her duty, which is why I stand on the fact that she should've been a villain or someone trying to make Hiccup fall from grace.
#4) *RISE/GUARDIANS IS UNDERRATED!!* I get that the villains motives are weak, but everything else is something special. I wanna go to the directors of stuff like Rise/Guardians and Megamind and say, "I take back my criticism. I like your unpopular but awesome stuff."
Then it's Ranking every dreamworks movie: The series
Sponsored by schafrilla productions
I actually thought Boss Baby was an Illumination movie. Everything about it just screams Illumination.
No you can tell the only problem was the story, everyone working on it (the score, animation, and even the voice actors) put their best into it, and if they had a better story I guarantee you it would be incredible
It almost feels like they copied illumination because their movies were profitable at The time.

I think that HTTYD having a disabled protagonist who isn't completely hindered by it is absolutely amazing. It is a movie that is targeted towards kids and I can't think of any other movie that stars an amputee and is for children. It's so important for kids to see characters like Hiccup
Ikr. It’s absolutely incredible
I for the first time saw HTTYD trilogy like last month, and it is by far my top 3 favorite movies.
Star wars. What? Luke doesn't have a hand but he's badass.
@@imightbeaperson630 Same
@@wolfiegames1572 you’re right but Star Wars is slightly less kid friendly then HTTYD.

I agree! I'm a Christian too and it was beautifully portrayed in a way I didn't expect

I love that movie wholeheartedly
I'm an atheist, but I've cried watching prince of egypt, it's magical, the animation in this movie alone leaves me shaking
Dude I cried so hard how you described The Prince of Egypt. I watched it in theaters when it first came out and it’s been my favorite animated film ever since. And this is coming from someone who grew up during the era of Disney renaissance.
“Singing killed my grandma!”
“I ate my grandma!”
She sang happy birthday to him, which caused him to eat her
"And it took a week cause she was absolutely humongous"

I want to add to monster's vs aliens from a 3D modeler point of view.
Bob in monster's vs aliens, yes bob, has one of, if not the most complicated rigs in 3D history. It took the guy 2 years just to make the rig for bob. Btw the rig is the bones that let him move for those who don't know. Bob is such a historical landmark for 3D modelers everywhere because of the rigging done. All of this was done, on a blob of slime call bob, that is voiced by Seth Rogan
Shen: I'm the most elaborate character model in Dreamworks history!
Bob: hold my slime
I've seen its rig before.
It looks like the DNA of a Mechanical god.
My mom loves monsters vs aliens solely because of Bob

I remember in theaters when Hiccup lost his leg and the sheer shock and sadness of the audience was just the best

I agree that the Shrek trilogy was good and is underrated, (#1).
#2) I'm totally insulted that Madagascar 3 got a better rating than the Croods. It's understandable, but I despised Madagascar even as a kid. So it's shocking
#3) 37:20 I like that the Bee movie includes consequences for the main character's course of action, (based on personal bias, ignorance, and impulse). And it has a little subplot about the importance of community. It's underrated.
#4) The themes in Train Your Dragon 2 are what turn me off/on. It had an excellent theme about embracing responsibility, but it took multiple watches to catch it, and the way Valka just abandons her family not giving a damn what happens b'coz she was to lazy to, idk, adapt her argument create peace a lot earlier. I swear half of it was her not wanting to embarrass her duty, which is why I stand on the fact that she should've been a villain or someone trying to make Hiccup fall from grace.
#5) *RISE/GUARDIANS IS UNDERRATED!!* Everything it does is something special. I wanna go to the directors of stuff like Rise/Guardians say, "I take back my criticism. I like your unpopular but awesome stuff."
