Colors (Winsor & Newton):
yellow (Cadmium Yellow),
orange (Winsor Orange),
dark red (Brown Madder),
black (Ivory Black),

Brushes:
- small and pointy (N7 Loew-Cornell, round 7000)
- wider flat and pointy (1" Silver Black Velvet, 3009S Oval)

i love water colour paintings and i found video and i am so happy. people usually show a sped up version of their paintings but u talk us through it and i can clearly see how you are doing everything. it lets one look at the different techniques and analyze it!! thank you so much for what you did. keep painting!!!

lol, sounds great. As more sketching you will do, the better you will become. Try to find 5 min a day to make a sketch with one/two colors, when you will have about 20 of them you will realize something new.
I find the way you draw very calming.

Brushes and paints could be any brand. I try different things all the time. So should you until you find your favorite. I did not even give exact names for the colors, encouraging you to use the primary colors, leaving up to you to pick yours :)

This is so helpful for me when I first started out. But.....I painted it using my iPad :) But the technique and the way to paint you showed here really inspired me back then even though I used an iPad instead of real watercolor. Thank you! :)

oh, thats cool, please say hello from me directly to your students. Where is your school? Here is a fun assignment that I sometimes give to children about that age: give them something to paint and only 15 minutes to complete. Put a timer up. When this is over, give them 10 seconds to switch seats! They should end up with someone else's painting and materials. Then give them another 10 minutes to complete this new work. After this, have a discussion about each work, find what was done best and how could it be improved. perhaps one day we could have a live stream with your students.
I'm teaching in Malaysia now and we are doing your cherry blossom with Fuji San tutorial today after recess. The kids saw the thumbnail the other day and wanted to try this one out. Thanks so much for the activity suggestion. That sounds like fun already.

Love this - the only thing more I would like to hear about on these videos - certain pigments when mixed turn to chalk - so, when you say, "added a deeper blue" or something....it can end up a mess. I am still learning how to not do this - and its a challenge. I wish more teachers would be very specific about the pigments they are using - so we don't end up with chalk. I think you would get tons of viewers if you could do videos on this. All that said - the painting is simply beautiful and you do a great job teaching - thank you and I will subscribe!
Angie Wilson what kind of watercolors are you using? Stay away from artists loft.
The problem is that not all of the painters have access to specific paints. I always describe my materials in the video description however. Another reason I don’t call particular colors sometimes is that I want you to experiment :) you shouldn’t try to copy my painting precisely but study how to painting your own.
