    We have homeless people here in the US as well. You should never give them money. Buy them food or donate to a homeless shelter, or you can just buy crack for them. Shelter or food is a better option, especially if they have children.

      Homelessness in the UK is different to in the US. You have veterans who gave up their lives for you living on the streets, now that’s sad.

    I live in the UK and if there was even a chance of me and my family being made homeless, the council would make us a top priority for housing. What people need to understand is that many people choose to be homeless. The UK isn’t a third world country, it doesn’t benefit from homeless people on the street. There are charities, councils and organisations working to get people off the street but it seems that most have addiction problems that prevents them keeping a stable job and/or want to rebel against the very system that tries to help them. The system will not change to suit them, they need to change to fit the system.

    • @Mewster62
      @Mewster62 6 лет назад +3

      Top priority if you have children, otherwise due to funding and housing shortages you're very much in the postcode lottery and the support from councils is poor. There has been many reports over the years where individuals, like a single working age male, often get little support from the council. Charities and organisations vary across the country and most are overstretched and the support is often limited.
      If there are underlying problems then maybe the system should change and have appropriate support for the individual to help tackle addiction, mental health issues and so on. If you do suffer these issues, how are you meant to change when you're homeless with no money and likely at their lowest point in their lives?

      Strawberry 93 ......well all I know, as a white male who is now quite ill.....when I needed help from the system, after paying in for years, I was given ZERO help . Not the price of a coffee. Yet a male of similar age, of south asian origin, was offered a new kitchen. Mmmm.......wonder why there is racial tension ?

    I was homeless for ten years I fear being homeless again the services that helped me get a place to live in my city have declined. In the many hostels I lived in the majority of people where white middle aged men no great amount of gay people to my knowledge. Vulnerable women who have kids or are abused end up being housed or go to women's shelters and the young have their own hostels but the facilities for middle aged men are not as common. People of all walks of life become homeless I simply lost my job and could no longer pay my rent. I got a place to live after finding a hostel that had a resettlement programme but that organisation doesn't exist anymore. Food banks are not the easy option that people think you can only use one with a voucher and you only get 3 vouchers every 6 months because of the demand it's not like you can just turn up and help yourself every day. Society cares about the young and about women and immigrants and the LBGT community white middle aged straight men have become the forgotten section of society because it's not fashionable to worry about them in todays PC world. It's why the limited hostels that can house white middle aged men are full of them everyone else have their own facilities to deal with them. It's why so many women in poverty situations get pregnant as well so the social services and the council are forced to house them something men are not able to do. I have been in the City I am in now for about a decade and the number of homeless on the streets has gone up visibly in that time the government's cuts to the welfare system are doing a lot of damage to people who are already struggling and as the homeless numbers go up the facilities to help them are getting less effective.

      Michael Shaughnessy thank you for the truth first hand . Most folks globally are one missed check away from homelessness. It’s real! I know of folks losing 79k year jobs and out on the streets in three months or less , after exhausting legal moves to stay sheltered. Stay vigilant

    • @maxheadroom3839
      @maxheadroom3839 6 лет назад +1

      Phd Craven Moorehead It's surprising how a situation can snowball out of control. You are OK if you have a reasonably wealthy family who can put you up or friends who are willing to help you for an indefinite amount of time but if you haven't got those things it's out on the streets. You have to then be lucky you are in a city or town with decent hostels even then you may spend some time on the streets before a space opens up in one. I spent several years moving around before I found the organisation that eventually helped me. I could not stay in my home town I had to move away because my home town was small and only had a hostel for people my age with a two week stay because it was so small.

    6: A lot of the time, it's a life choice. I'm a community volunteer on Merseyside and have been for five years. If I had a penny for every time the organisation I work for had helped one of the homeless people we support and keep an eye out for to find social housing, and they either never even bothered moving in, or had left the home uninhabitable in under a month, I'd have £3.83.
    Don't be under any illusion, for a lot of people, homelessness is a gig. We had a young single Dad turned out of private rental with his daughter just before Christmas, and after 3 nights in our local ymca, they were housed by the council, and there a dozen cases similar to theirs every week. You can only successfully house those who want to be housed.

    I agree with most of this BUT, the man speaking about the food offered to homeless people seemed rather picky and nasty about the food and drink offered, but I understand some people have food allergies, and more... religious food preferences too. After all, IF you are really starving, you will eat what is offered most likely. Good video !

    It's great that you guys take some time to talk about the LGBT community. They do face their own set of challenges. Nonetheless, I also reckon that if you are going to discuss the gender variable, you might want to look at the bic picture and comment on the fact that men are also overrepresented - when speaking about homelessness.

    • @439bananas
      @439bananas 5 лет назад

      @@hugosugg4350 The reason why people give food or a cup of something hot is because they know that many homeless people spend money that is given to them on alcohol, drugs or fags. Many of the people who give, can not afford the luxury of such habits themselves, so why should they support other people in those habits? I think that poverty is mainly to blame for homelessness and we all know that homelessness can be a route to addiction, but addiction is never going to help these people out of poverty. We need more available affordable housing and better mental health services.

    You have to champion transsexual homeless(.03-.07 of the population), lgbt homeless (10% of the population), and totally ignored that 86% of the homeless population is MALE, mainly because all, and i mean ALL, forms of social assistance go to women first and men as an afterthought. Does the BBC really think the world can't see the blatant and disgusting anti-male bias in all their social commentary just because they try to cover it with paper thin mask of faux empathy for 'approved victims' while totally ignoring the majority of those really suffering? Why do UK citizens fund the BBC expression of such morally bankrupt idiocy?

  • @Encourage1another777
    @Encourage1another777 6 лет назад

    How did so much of this end up being about 'homophobia and 'transphobia' . What kind of support are homeless homosexuals and lesbians etc wanting from the public in order to become the only minority group mentioned in a homelessness video? Do they want the public to visit those places and call them out for more attention. Was that an advert to remind other homeless straight people not to forget to relate to those who they might suspect of being in the LGBTQ community when they are in the queue for the lunch or sharing a dorm. Or was it just another opportunity to perpetuate a socialist view of society as victims and perpetrators? Who is actually going around writing stats to see how many of the patrons are gay, straight and otherwise. Why didn't they just say that men are over represented? That's a real measurable stat. Why don't they say that people under 35 are over represented? That's a real measurable stat! I don't get it!

    • @439bananas
      @439bananas 5 лет назад

      It beggars belief that they made it so much about homophobia. Frankly, when I was younger, I had the sense to realise that to live under my parents' roof I needed to toe the line. I am 49 and as a 18-23 year old living in my parents' home it was made clear that short skirts, piercings, makeup and boyfriends stopping over would be unacceptable. When you want to have a partner you simply move out and be an adult. After all as long as you are paying the rent, the average non live in landlord could not give a toss about your choice of partner.

    If you give them a home you think they would go out an pay bills an be regular Joe's ? - millions want to come here because it's easier to make a living here than alot of places in the world.
    There is no easy solution. Most of these people are running away from a problem an they have burnt bridges with family.
    Our housing market is appalling and does make the game difficult.
    This as got nothing to do with been straight or queer. What even attached such triviality to this major issues.
    If you sleeping on the streets your sexuality issues should be the last thing on yer mind.

    • @439bananas
      @439bananas 5 лет назад

      I completely agree with you, this video is making out that being gay is a major cause of homelessness. The major cause of homelessness is the affordability of housing. As far as people being homeless due to being gay is concerned, if you live under someone else's roof, you live under their rules, if you don't like it you are at liberty to move out
      We have all been there it is part of being an adult and taking responsibility for our lives. When I lived at home, my parents [I am straight] objected to my boyfriend, it was either him or the roof over my head, my boyfriend never even so much as stayed at my parents' house. I was a studying A levels at the time and either I wanted to continue studying and living under their roof, the price of which was to pack the boyfriend in or I was going to have to go and get a job. My parents wanted me to study to be a teacher, but after a year on the course, I knew it was not for me and wanted to change course, my parents did not support me in that change and as a result, I started my own business, so that I could afford to do as I wanted in life.
      What I would say to anyone gay in this situation is: if you are old enough to not be celibate, then you are old enough not to inflict YOUR choice of partner on your parents, you are also old enough to go out and get a job and support yourself. The real root of homelessness is poverty and welfare changes and the gay rights thing is a totally needless distraction from that. As I said, if you live under someone else's roof you live by their rules, most people seem to have forgotten this.

  • @mygradeflife2754

    Lgbtq+ and gender rights is important. But i dont see why every issue has to be seperated into categories. Why does it have to be male homelessness or female homelessness or lgbtq+ homelessness. The title is homelessness but you can see clear division within the actual video. I feel like everyone is trying to push their own agedas so much so that instead of diminishing discrimination the differences are just becoming more great and obvious cause more disceimination.

    • @439bananas
      @439bananas 5 лет назад +1

      Completely agree, homelessness is in the main caused by poverty rather than someone's sexuality. Let's face it if any of us live under someone else's roof we live by their rules, if we can not live by their rules then we get a job, save up and move into our own place where we can do as we please.

      Other countries (look at Portugal!!) have done so much better with the drug epidemic and homelessness than the UK have, despite not being as well-off - we're just too too busy faffing about with unnecessary politicking.

    • @Strawberry-ii4le

      Cord Delion they do when they start taking drugs. They couldn’t foresee the consequences and like a child have to now be helped to live for free and continue the drug problem rather than sorting it themselves. Unlike Portugal, we have a free healthcare service and benefit system that would easily sort people out that want help.

      @Strawberry93 Amazing how lefties immediately morph into neoliberals the second you question their plan to drive wages down by flooding the market with cheap workers. • @Strawberry-ii4le
      @Strawberry-ii4le 6 лет назад

      AugustusPugin I am a Briton. This country relies on immigrant labour whether you like it or not. Immigrants are more hard-working than the majority of native Brits and are prepared to work for less. You say you’re being replaced yet this isn’t evidenced anywhere. This has nothing to do with being on the right or left. For the past 7 years, we’ve had a right-wing government and still immigration is on the rise.

    • @ParticleJesus
      @ParticleJesus 6 лет назад

      @Strawberry93 I also like you say that immigrants are better workers so we've shipped them in AND THEN LITERALLY DENY NATIVES ARE BEING REPLACED in the next sentence. This is impressive doublethink.
