    My 87's 85-mph speedo does fine until I get above 70 or so, then it starts jumping (seems like its floating). It's been awhile but seems I remember changing the cable years ago and the vss too. Do you think your fix in this video would work for this? I'm currently waiting for a dimmer switch to come in...it was acting wonky, especially if I rolled it all the way to turn interior light on.

    Not really sure what you did there,the camera was at a angle where you couldn't see what you were doing but i guess when i take mine off it will become clear.

    Never had one of the Mustang Foxbody clusters apart. Good improvement and interesting how the Speedo works. My first thought was the speedo cable which is usually the culprit on old ford trucks.

    • @89G
      @89G  5 месяцев назад +1

      Same on these too. I knew my cable was bad because it was squeaking. I also replaced the VSS with a NOS unit, at the same time just to be sure. One thing I didn't mention was I knew both the gear in the trans and on the VSS were good too - as the trans only has about 1000 miles on it. Thanks for watching!

    Thank you again for another good video. It's really hard to find instruction on mechanical speedometers, let alone a Fox Mustang one. My 91 LX 140mph speedo is acting up, and I think this vid helped me fix it. My problem relates to the tiny distance between the two opposing metallic "arms" and the magnetic disk. At first I thought the fragile spring was at fault, but you state it's only to dampen the needle return, so I was able to rule that out. Thanks again. Oh, if you know more about how the speedo works, an in-depth tutorial would be appreciated, at least by me. I really like learning how things work and can figure out a lot on my own, but it's always best to be taught by someone who knows. Without a father or uncle (or sister) to teach me, it ain't always easy.

      @@89G I appreciate the offer. I know speedometers can be calibrated, so I'm wondering, once the needle is not jumping any more, how do I get it as accurate as possible? ASC McLaren sells restored 140 mph speedos for $195, but I'd like to know how to recalibrate mine myself.

    • @89G
      @89G  4 месяца назад

      @fifteen8 the only way I've calibrated/corrected them is with the gear on the end of the VSS/speedo cable. Do you know what gears you have? What year is your car?

      @@89G Thanks. Yeah, I have the closest speedo gear since changing to 3.73s. Car is an AOD. The only way to get closer is by changing something inside the trans. I have to check the speedo against a GPS since I've monkeyed with it.
