    I own a 2012 RR SC. Dealer wanted $1300 for a front brake job. I changed them myself with Brembo pads for $65. Dealer wanted over $7k for a new transfer case. I bought a used one from a salvage yard for $800 and had independent shop install for $600 (plus another $200 for transfer case calibration). Then the front air suspension went due to the dreaded dry rot. Dealer wanted over $2K to fix. I rebuilt them myself with new after market air struts for $500. Moral of the story is Range Rovers are a labor of love. Don’t buy a used one if you plan on bringing it to the dealer exclusively. You have to hustle and do some of the work yourself otherwise you’ll go bankrupt.

      Or you could find a decent road-side mechanic, and they do the same job as a service shop would for much less. Particularly look for those foreign mechanics as they work on all vehicles as they don't just fix American cars. I know of two very good once locally who have saved me thousands of dollars on endless repairs...

    My Dad has always taught me how to be smart with my money and how to invest it but he also has always loved Range Rovers with a very deep passion despite all the cons with owning one he has a 2019 Supercharged Sport, a 2013 Supercharged and a 2010 Supercharged we all enjoy these cars, how they drive, and beating mustangs in an suv is quite pleasing I must say. When you enjoy something as much as we love RR’s you will be more than happy to shell out whatever is needed to keep them running. Any used car is expensive and if you use a garage or particularly a main dealer for repairs/service they all charge astronomical prices, it’s called owning a car! Have a car you like and enjoy, not just one that you think is cheap because they are no cheap cars when they go wrong, and they all will go wrong at some point.

  • @pabloottawa
    @pabloottawa 6 лет назад +25

    I have a 2010 and here’s what you should know. 1. Get one with the certified pre-owned warranty from LR, NOT third party, 2. Get the GAP IIDTool to scan and customize your ride. It’s expensive but could save you thousands in repairs, it did for me, 3. While under warranty bring it to the dealership if you hear, feel, smell, see, taste anything out of the ordinary. My dealership raped the CPO warranty to the tune of well over 30k while I was covered, but that’s because I always brought it in for the slightest little thing, 4. Create relationships and cultivate connections with people who can get you REAL deals on parts. It takes the sting out of the maintenance costs. 5. Don’t off-road drive it if you are not prepared to spend hours and hours cleaning it. Seriously these cars are incredibly amazing off-road and can do anything a Jeep can do. In most cases it can do it far better than a Jeep but unlike a Jeep you will have to clean the undercarriage THOROUGHLY to prevent permanent damage to its various exposed components. I took mine off road ONCE and spent almost two days to get it completely clean, 6. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH!!!! Join the many Land Rover and Range Rover forums out there and know exactly what your Rover is all about so you don’t end up paying through the nose for every single repair, 7. Enjoy your Rover. Give it the right gas (91 octane) and keep the tires properly inflated and you’ll get decent mileage out of it but don’t expect Honda numbers. It’s an eight cylinder BEAST and it burns gas like one so don’t fool yourself if you’re used to 4 cylinder fuel costs...... Lastly, this is not a car for people who don’t care to maintain their vehicles. Those people drive Hondas and Toyotas. If you have the cash and you are prepared for all this monster is about, GET ONE!!!! I highly recommend it! They are tons of fun :)

Thank goodness, I'm very handy, so I save thousands by doing all of my electric, plumbimg, flooring, doors, windows, cabinetry, and much more as I'm also a certified Construction Technician aka a BUILDER who can build any house, shed, fence, deck, porch, framing, etc., from scratch all by myself...and even the so-called PROs admire my work lol. Hi there I have watched several of your videos on Range Rovers and Land Rovers. I'm planning to buy an L322 Range Rover 2011 and I need your professional advice in buying that vehicle. As we know they are equipped with the Jaguar 5.0L V8 Supercharged and that motor has a big issue with the timing chain tensioners.
    The vehicle I'm buying has a timing chain issue that needs to be fixed. But the thing that concerns me is that at low speeds the vehicle drives in a jerky motion but as soon as we press the accelerator the jerkiness stops and the car runs smooth. I want to know that is the jerky motion because of a faulty transmission, or some bigger fault, just a timing chain issue or does this mean that the chain is so loose that it has skipped a tooth?
    Also when I went to check the SUV it had a discharged battery so we had to jump start it and when I test drove the SUV it had a warning light saying, "Restricted Performance" and the engine wouldn't go past a certain speed limit. Is that because of the low battery power or does it mean that there is a bigger fault?
    I'm a mechanic myself and I fix my cars at home. I can fix a timing chain issue without any problem as long as I have the parts but I can't rebuild a transmission as I don't have a workshop, No proper set of tools for a big job like that and also I don't have proper programmable computers and softwares for these cars if any part loses it's calibration.
    I would really appreciate if you could give me your expert advice on the matters stated above. Thank You

I have a 2008 with 106,000 miles, and it runs just fine. Like any car or truck new or used, if you get regular ON TIME maintenance and repairs you won't have as much trouble if any at all. There are some cars that need to be treated like a new born baby and there are others you can drive for a 150,000 miles before the check engine light comes on. Most people who buy a new or used Range Rover previously had a car they could run into the ground for years before doing any major repairs and expect this truck to be the same way.

With following exceptions: 1) You dont need a car, then this brand is fine. 2) You have so much money that the amount of money on your bank account is worrying you. Just buy a random model and it will go away. 3) You are buying it for fun, you have a second reliable car, you are enjoying laying the weekend under your LR and trying to fix the problems AND you have an ebay account where you can get the otherwise pricey repair parts. 4) You wanna go to a desert and really make sure u are never coming back.
