Richmond, VA (Associated Press) March 30, 2017 -- *Pre-Owned Auto Reseller CarMax Forced to Declare Bankruptcy Due to Massive Losses from Extended Warranty on a Single Range Rover.* _Story developing..._
Suboptimus Lime in other other news, Ha Ha Max, previously known as CarMax and know known simply as Oh, DadMax, has been taken, in its entirety, by Billy's Father in a stock swap for the sum total of one long distance phone bill including charges to 900 number party lines and one dorm room phone number registered to a "Big Tits McGee", in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Billy, also known as Da Man, is said to be totally devastated and could be grounded forever or until "your mother let's me sleep inside the house again....."
Range Rover put the shit in shit box. This piece of shit should in blasted to smithereens as nearby military base using a bazooka. How can a horn and radiator fail?
Man....The design team at Range Rover/Jaguar are awesome, the cars are works of art from the outside. But you'd THINK by now that they'd train their mechanics & assembly lines to build/fix cars that last longer than 2-3 years lol. My XE is in the shop getting worked on right now, got a rental car Evoque & the infotainment system stopped working hahaha XD
Doug, the day the warranty expires, sell it back to CarMax. Depending on how much they offer, and taking into account the value of the warranty repairs, you might even come out ahead!
They would buy it back..i work for carmax, His range rover wouldn't end up on the front lot. it would be auctioned off at the auctions carmax holds for other dealers to buy their cars they don't find value in rebuilding or don't meet their requirements.
I live in Australia. When you take a 4x4 into the Outback here, your life can literally depend on your vehicle. And nobody-NOBODY-takes a Land Rover product. They take a Toyota.
I just spent 10 months driving Australia in my LR Discovery 3. Traversed every gravel road, beach, hill climb and goat track I could find from Cape York to Strathgordon and experienced no major issues. Great car :)
rene skytte There are several Australian off road channels with Defender or even Series. The army Defender is tough! The Land Cruiser is main stream but the Land Rovers are still there.
This is the best CarMax commercial ever ( no seriously, its awesome). Its making me seriously consider getting a CarMax warranty for the next vehicle ( if I go that route).
lilrabbit129 don't forget that not all cars are as unreliable as this Range Rover. They're notorious for their mechanical problems. For the most part you won't be needing their warranty not to mention the fact that you pay a lot more money for their cars when compared to other dealerships. Add the warranty with the extra costs and you pretty much have more than the repair costs for any reliable car.
Not always. It's important to remember that they are one of the few used retailers with strict quality control so you aren't just paying for a sticker. The warranty can be expensive but your vehicle is covered for almost anything that goes wrong. There extended warranties are better then the warranties from any new retailer from what I've seen.
I bought a 2009 Maserati Quattroporte from CarMax in 2012. I bought the same warranty, as of today " after adding all my receipts " minus the $50 deductible, it has totaled $19,303.12. not bad for a $3700 warranty add on!!
circlehousePRO Well, there interest rate is pretty high compared to buying new. As soon as my warranty is done, selling back to CarMax. I've heard there warranty prices are higher now than when Doug and I bought ours, but my receipts don't lie. CarMax has basically bought me a new car ;-D
And over 130,000 miles on average. Some cars like Range Rovers, Mercedes, and Cadillac's won't be bought with over 70,000 miles. I have the great fortune of working in purchasing with Carmax.
doug, a key to the warranty is before it expires pay the dealer to do the "certified " check. They will find all kinds of stuff they never looked for or you even knew was broken
archinuk417 totally agree , why people try to look good in these pieces of junk, buy a new one and then sell it in 4 years and if you cant afford it, get a new pick up , that will last years and years , dont try to be what you are not .
Yup, I bought a 2007 BMW 335i from carmax and I also bought their warranty. Warranty was about $3000. They have paid at least $15,000 in repairs, just two moths after i bought the car, I blew one of the turbos, they replaced both turbos, a $7000 job. that by itself has payed off for the warranty. CarMax warranty is the best, it's through CNA btw.
This isn't the case with most of the cars they sell. But some cars like Range rovers, Mercedes, BMW, etc. are very high maintenance and they cost a lot to maintain. My BMW was actually for sale as a certified Pre owned at a BMW dealership 3 weeks before I bought it from CarMax, so they actually have good cars.
It's the brand, not the fact that it comes from Carmax. If you buy a run of the mill Toyota or Honda from Carmax you'll likely have a totally uneventful experience with the reliability - however many paranoid customers do opt for the warranty anyway which helps offset the insane claims made by German car buyers :P German cars are just inherently unreliable, especially when it comes to electronics. They're not made to last long beyond the warranty period.
thereapergrim Thats just pure fucking Bullshit. The 335i are all known for Turbo failured, 330i or 325i for example not. And after a certain amount of time some parts are worn out, but thats the case in all cars! You are just generalizing atleast 100+ models from different german Carmanufacturers to be unrealiable, yet I bet you never even owned one
+TheBuzzlin, the way he gushes about Honda damages his credibility. My boss and my sister-in-law have strongly warned me to avoid Honda. They're fine at first. Then comes one small repair. About a year later, another thing breaks. It costs more. Then you start noticing problem after problem. The Accords and Civics are pure garbage. After 50,000 miles, the problems are just as numerous as the Range Rover. My boss heard I was shopping around for a car and told me firmly: "A word of advice, don't get Honda. They USED to be great but the brand is slowly going down the toilet."
Nah. That won't happen, since most wanna-be Yuppies that buy these buy them to look cool and rich driving around San Francisco, Praying to Jesus the repair Bill that is surely coming 6 weeks in the future doesn't cause a Divorce lol
@@1970borntorun unfortunately doesn’t apply now since JLR is owned by TATA and the L405 and L494 are reliable. These L322s were terrible but they were from the Ford era. Ford helped make terrible range rovers
Chrysler yes, dodge nah, dodge is more reliable even though the engine is a Chrysler engine, cause the guts in challengers are german made, the chassis is german made, the transmission, the brakes are all german. So build quality is exceptional. The engine is actually good despite being chrysler.
Hands down my Favorite Doug DeMuro review. His glee at reading off EVERY SINGLE repair that was covered was priceless. thanks, Doug. We completely felt your joy here.
Why would they do that? This has to be the most effective, cheapest ad campaign they could ever dream of. If they offer Doug anything, it will be to *extend^ the warranty so he'll keep writing and doing videos about it.
It has cost CarMax 15k for Doug to advertise for them for 4 years and probably send quite a few customers their way. That's a steal. I bet they check his column every day, hoping that something breaks and they get to fix it with the accompanying positive article from Doug.
It is painfully obvious that Cherry Hill Land Rover is extremely fraudulent and not actually replacing parts. That is why the horn and steering column motor keep failing, they have never been replaced with new parts, yet the dealer keeps billing CarMax for fake repairs.
Suboptimus Lime not all dealerships are like that. I'm a totally honest guy and no matter how bad a day I'm having, I never do a bad job because of it. Customers deserve better. Probly why our dealership has 4.9/5 stars on google
The older you get the more you understand why people just purchase a camry. People just need to get to places and handle things, not deal with this crap.
But CarMax is not repairing the car. The Range Rover Dealer is reparing it. So CarMax does nothing but paying the bills. This Range Rover is just a giant piece of junk, nothing range rover or CarMax can do about
I would hope that the Land Rover dealership knows (or has learned) how to insert these parts. Sounds like a design problem that has never been fixed. So it will keep failing if he were to keep using it as a daily driver.
I own 4x4's myself but warranties cover normal wear and tear. Check any vehicle warranty it will have exclusions for things like improper vehicle maintenance, misuse, abuse or neglect, vandalism, fire, off-road use, racing, collision or impact. Warranty Claims are denied and invalided all the time for off-road ready vehicles. If they see mud packed in your wheel wells, rock dings and/or scratches on the under carriage, you might find yourself without a drivetrain warranty and a court battle to have it serviced under warranty. It's screwed but that's the way it is. Each manufacture is different on how strict they are.
I own this piece of shit but I love it so much. I no longer take it anywhere to be fixed because I have fixed nearly everything to a point where I know all the parts and how to replace them in my driveway all alone with my tools. Rule number 1- Know junkyards in your neck of the woods and be a mechanic as soon as you buy one. Commercial mechanics are super thieves and should be avoided at all cost. With cold front blanketing East Coast, I didn't want to fix my last breakdown in my driveway so I took it to a supposed 'great shop' in my neighborhood to fix steering column! The parts and labor they quoted was $7700. Like a joint user, I said F it and drove it to a nearby LKQ junkyard and pulled the part myself and paid $31. Drove home and after 4 hours of jamming afrobeat while working on my rover, the machine was ready! I saved $7669.
Wasn't MG short for Morris garage.........long pedigree of grumbles as well. Glad to say we have a disco2 that has served us well for 500 thousand kilometres but as you say know your product well with your own tools
Im driving a 2006 Honda ridgeline. 189,000 miles on it. in 12 years changed a radiator and stabillizer links. Using it for work (masonry). Thats i call reliability.
Leased a 2018 Range Rover , after 4 months of sensor failure after sensor failure , leaving me stranded 3 times , returned it to dealer , and with help from a lemon law lawyer , got my money back , went for a Toyota Highlander , never looked back , and will NEVER get another Range Rover !!!
@@LIVINSPAC Nah man, be careful with yours, my dad's 2017 TD Discovery Sport has had some serious issues, I understand that it may have been a faulty unit, but the LR dealership never said anything about it being a faulty unit even after the repairs. Thank God it was under a 5 year warranty my dad spent only a grand on. Repairs: faulty fuel pumps and cooling system(at 8k miles), some spark plugs failed for some reason(at 15k miles), and then the car would start turning off it self and struggling to turn on, turns out a lot of the ignition electronics had a shortage(at 37k miles) after the dealership fixed it my dad just sold it and bought a GLC and it has been much more reliable, it now has 44k miles and he only had to change oil and brakes. Keep in mind, never the Land Rover guys told us what caused the issues, we only had access to the recipes of the new parts they'd put. The dealership really tried to mask their brands unreliability, we had to guess what the problems were. They spent over 12k on repairs and didn't tell us how serious they were, we thought that we could have the car in a day or two. Turns out the shortest time we had to wait for a repair were 12 days, and the longest two actual months. They gave us an evoque as a spare, however, it was a gasoline car, my dad's was a diesel, which meant he spent a lot on fuel he hadn't planned on spending, and had to be constantly on gas stations( the evoque has an awful fuel economy to its power). PLEASE NEVER BUY FROM JAGUAR, OR BRITISH CARS ( except If you are rich and dont care about expenses).
Hail to the victors valiant hail, to the conquering heroes hail, hail, to Michigan the leaders and best! Hail to the victors valiant hail, to the conquering leaders hail, hail, to Michigan the champions of the west, GO BLUE!!
Is there not a warranty on all the garbage parts you are buying? Why is CarMax replacing something numerous times, and is the dealer not paying for it.
Gaming Culture because they probably aren't diagnosing the correct problem. If a horn doesn't work, it could be a huge amount of different things that caused it
edward james eventually CarMax may catch up to them and demand they find the real cause of his problems. idk. I know that GM tracks it's warranty repairs so this doesn't happen.
@@shallnotbenamed814 Carmax Maxcare comes with rental reimbursement. Demuro's point was that IF YOU CAN AFFORD MAXCARE, you can afford the luxury tax of being a 2nd-5th owner of a British or German shitbox. Luxury cars are often annoying anyway, why do you think the original owners abandon them before 30,000 miles?
Unless you buy a reliable car then the warrenty is not worth it but if you buy any land rover product, GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, these cars are junkers
I took over a lease on a 2015 Mercedes C300. This is my list of replacements and repairs done all under warranty on that vehicle over the course of just this February, one month! Every week was a new trip to the dealer... Replacements: Front driver's side window (wind noise) Driver's seat headrest (broken adjustment) Driver's seat back pocket (broken by dealer) Left front axle shaft (strange noise) Right front axle shaft (strange noise) Left front upper control arm (strange noise) Repairs: Panoramic sunroof rattle (x2) In-dash rattle(x2 but has returned) trunk rattle (clip fell off inside trunk lid) So all in all, my first German car experience... Well, I love my car actually, it is truly a pleasure to drive, but damn would it be expensive to own out of warranty.
I'm seriously thinking I might buy a car from carmax for the warranty. How does it work, you take it to any dealership to get it fixed and CM takes care of the price?
Boss When you buy MaxCare (the plan Doug's got) you can choose your deductible. The minimum is $50, but CarMax will give you $50 off if you take it to them. So $0 at CarMax, $50 at a Land Rover dealership.
I had a warranty from CarMax for my S2000 and they replaced the whole convertible top. Worth every penny for technical vehicles. If you sell the car you get the prorated warranty back!
You take it anywhere you want it to get fixed and let them know you have a warranty taking care of it. The dealer/shop you're at takes care of the rest. When it's time to pick up you waltz in and pay your deductible and that's it. It's usually that simple unless you run into issues of them not wanting to cover something.
Do as all Range Rover owners here in Australia have done. Bin it at the next most convenient opportunity arrives... We don't see any of the older 2000 onwards model's much remaining on the roads. What we do see is the old school 1980's boxes driving around more.
Andrew Slazmo I have an 04. Haven’t had any issues with it. It’s got 160,000 miles on it and the only things I’ve replaced is the tires and battery in the 4 yrs I’ve had it. I’m going to find some wood to knock on now, lol.
Doug: Have you been in contact with Land Rover NA, because that shit is ridiculous. Is that four horns, tre tilt steering column motors, two air suspension struts? Their QC on parts must be horribly sloppy.
Johan Sidén Most of it is faulty designs. Automakers make more money on parts by forcing model-year specific parts on cars (even though some newer model years have better part designs) at dealers that they know will fail again... it's a cycle.
Nice part about being in the EU, faulty design = covered by legislation. Not only the part itself but any (sort of) damage the faulty part causes. Say for example the strut breaks and damages the subframe and wheel = covered.
Warranty aside, the notorious unreliability of Range Rovers coupled with the fact that they sell (sold) like hot cakes really gives an insight to the degree of stupidity of their owners. A friend of mine started with the P38 which was horrendous, he swore to never own a Range Rover again, but like an addict he fell in the next financial disaster with the L322. Total cost of repairs since 16 years of ownership (both models) $27.800. Let that sink in.
I read once that Range Rover enthusiast absolutely would never own one w/o a full bumper to bumper warranty and normally get rid of them after the warranty or lease.
Nathan Smith indis agree it’s a good reliable car as long as you buy it with good service history, and my God man do service it. Do not service it as though you are servicing a Buick. It’s expensive to service yes I admit but think of the car you are getting it’s complex to give you luxury. I had mine for 2 years now no warranty and it’s excellent and no warning lights drives like new and very reliable. I think people don’t know how to look after them hence all the BS about it.
@@Arthur9646 you shouldnt have to pay 2000 a month to service any car no matter how luxurious. This is literally the worst defense of land rover. If anything you should be paying for quality materials and craftmanship so it shouldnt hurt a well built car to go past its magical service date. They have never been and never will be a reliable brand.
That's not true at all, and as bad of a rep as ford gets, they make products that are light years ahead of Range Rover in terms of reliability. Do a little research and you'll see that LR/RR products have always been horrid, and they still are.
Land Rover/Range Rover make a lot of products that supposedly cater to a wide array of people, the common denominator is they're all horribly unreliable, even brand new. LR/RR has gone through many different owners and they've always consistently stayed unreliable. From Ranger Rover Classics, to modern full sized behemoths. Fords aren't always the most reliable cars, but they're far superior in that regard to LR/RR, not that that's saying much.
I sold my 2011 Land Rover LR4 to CarMax in January. It had a huge dent in the side, needed a new transmission because it couldn’t pass smog and the transmission was so bad it bounced like a low rider. I was told by the dealer it would cost 40k to repair everything. CarMax paid me 10k.
So if I understand correctly, the single greatest car you have ever owned is a total bomb for everyone but the mechanic? Oh and you plan to keep it after the warranty, I'm certain that will work well for you.
Who currently owns Range Rover ?? Drove a petrol sport once and wasn’t particularly impressed with the somewhat standard but wielding cumbersome handling . High seated position was advantageous but seemed to give a feel of unease like a pendulum effect. Reliability was never the ultimate forte of a Range Rover but listening to Doug his experience is plain diabolical. Car max honouring their warranty as any reputable company would is worthy of a award for perseverance. I’m not about to say Doug celebrity status might have an influence as this after the numerous claims would’ve surely been exasperated. Lesson here people if you don’t have a Range steer clear and avoid the possible addiction. Car max I take my hat off to you because many a warranty firms would have thrown the towel in and left their customers stranded rather than risk bankruptcy after all it is a business. Doug great informative video as always .
All this sums up to Range Rovers already have a reputation of frequent repairs ( high cost of ownership). So... does it wimper, creek and try to steer you in when you pass the dealership?
Sounds almost play-by-play like my 2004 Mercury Monterey mini-van (Mercury badged Ford Freestar). I bought it when it was three years old, when the original 'owner' returned it at the completion of their 3-year lease. It had only about 20k miles on it. The dealer did a 'certified' checkup and repaired everything on the list, including putting on new tires, brakes, replacing a cracked center console section, hiring a firm to re-sew some upholstery that was damaged due to the previous owner's kids yanking on the pockets on the rear of the front seat. The dealer also provided a Car Facts report, which looked clean. I think I paid $13,000 for the van. The dealer offered a bumper-to-bumper aftermarket warranty policy for $1,300, which I took. Had never taken an extended warranty or anything of the like before, and considered them to be probably some kind of rip-off, or at least a risky crap shoot like playing the lottery. Within the first couple years I had it, the warranty had kicked in over $8000 in repairs for things like the tri-zone air conditioning having all three loops' metal piping rotting out, power locks failing, power windows failing, steering issues, brake master cylinder failing, some sort of electronic engine control module failing, two wheel bearings failing, etc. Ten a year later the engine suddenly lost power in the interstate highway in the middle of a snow storm. I was able to limp the van to the nearest deal, which was closed, and take a taxi home. Turned out something in the ignition had fried, and it was necessary to replace almost everything in that system, including all of the individual ignition coils, which required dropping the engine to get at the rear ones. That repair was over $2000. So the warranty had kicked in something over $10,000 so far. Just before that warranty ran out, the brakes had another expensive issue, the transmission had an expensive repair, there was another electrical issue, and a couple other things I forgot about now. All paid by that warranty. After the warranty ran out, the van has luckily been pretty reasonable in terms of reliability. I replaced the tires because the ones the dealer had put on when I bought it were hard riding and noisy on the highway....the Michelins I put on have been great. Ford sent me a safety recall due to fears that corrosion would compromise the rear seat's attachment to the body, and the dealer had the van for a full week to implement the 'kit' provided by Ford to remedy this issue, but that was Ford paying for the repair and not the warranty folks (they also paid for a five day rental of another mini-van). About the only other stuff that has gone wrong since then is the rear brakes have caliper issues; they keep failing to retract fully and the brakes drag very slightly, resulting in two instances where I had to pay for replacement of rear rotors and pads and calipers. Contrast that with my 2003 Honda Accord which I drove over 200k miles in 10 years, and the 2013 Accord I bought to replace it, 70k on that so far. Did not buy an extended warranty on either, neither of them cost me more than oil changes, filters, tires, and very rare brake repairs when those wore out. Never any issues I noted that would cause me to see a mechanic or the dealer. Both cars had a couple recalls each, always for some fairly minor things that had apparently happened to others but not to mine, e.g. replacement of a wiper motor because some owners had experienced internal motor corrosion that could cause the wipers to fail when most needed. I still drive that Mercury mini-van, since I use it as a sort of enclosed cargo vehicle and on occasion when i want to haul visitors around to see the sights.
In 2009 I bought the 2006 Range Rover for wifey. Let me tell y’all this has been the best car I’ve ever own. In almos 10 years with our RR and only minor repairs and regular service done. We had few offers and we can’t get rid off her. Love the ride every time we drive it and still looks great.
EdWatts oh fuck. If he's in Jersey, then fuck yeah he's using the horn a lot on a daily. Born and raised in Jersey....and people drive like assholes out there. Whether north or south.
Glad I bought a Shogun now. It was a toss up between the two but having worked at land Rover and seen how they're made plus the reliability issues the shogun won it!
I beat the hell of of your warranty claims with just one of numerous warranty repairs on my VW Touareg V10 diesel, $18,776. My total has been over $40,000 in warranty repairs. Turbochargers and DPF’s replacement. Good CarMax really paid a more in repairs then I paid for it. Last repair was the headlamps and one didn’t function with in three days and they couldn’t find the reason. Traded it on new Atlas, with one year of warranty still left.
Doug it's a Land Rover did you expect it to be reliable? I drove the discovery, it was so bad, that I would I have trade it it back for my old 1979 chevy Vega wagon😤
This can break both ways.... either they're losing bags and bags of money on warranties like this and stop offering them (less likely as most cars people buy are far more reliable than a Range Rover so they come out ahead at the end of the day) OR they love the free advertising Doug's infamous Range Rover is giving them and are happy to keep fixing it!! I'll guess it's the second. And it works since with a warranty like that, I'm much more likely to go to Carmax for my next vehicle.
It's very sad for me to watch this video. I' ve been dreaming about Range Rovers my whole life and I was planning to get one as my first car (an old and used one of course). Now I know It is not gonna happen, but thank you Doug for preventing me going broke
danny notofconcern probably indefinitely. It's the same as insurance. I bet they've sold thousands of warranties where it paid out very little compared to the cost of it. I am surprised they don't have some sort of cap though
Wow first time seeing this and this is literally my exact situation. I bought a 2007 Chevy avalanche and I paid 18 or 19. The truck literally had 2 engines, trans, and bunch of other work. Roughly 20k worth of work. I saw Scotty Kilmer talkin shit about car max warranty and I’m like dude you’re crazy lol. Glad you covered this!
They're prestigious vehicles with beautiful interiors, that appeal to those who want you to know they are wealthy or appear wealthy. However they're among the least reliable vehicles you can buy with prohibitively expense parts. If you want to buy a dependable vehicle with reasonable maintenance and repair cost along with good resale value because of that, buy a Japanese vehicle. As always a well done and entertaining video but Car Max's warranty didn't pay you for your wasted time having all these repairs addressed.
Some rich people love to spend money though and will even boast about the repair costs. The most expensive and richest town near me has terrible roads because the cars are all Audis and Mercs that have great suspension and don't feel the bumps and hey a £3000 repair bill is something to impress the neighbours.
Land Rover is especially bad though, literally the worst. Why wouldn't you go with another brand anyway? The romantic British appeal of Land Rover died when all of the switchgear became Ford based, the brand prestige isn't there because they don't change much from year to year and almost everyone who has one bought it used for less than $40k, the iconic styling has given way to an ugly and needlessly complicated pedestrian safety blob that's only vaguely the same shape as a vintage Range Rover, the G Class, LX, and Patrol/QX80 are all better offroaders, and just about any luxury car has a better interior. Even a base model Buick Regal feels less cheap inside than a platicky loaded Range Rover, and has more useable tech. A 2018 Range Rover is a plasticky trashy poorly built ghettomobile, at this point a Chrysler 300 probably carries more brand prestige and has nicer interior plastics. Yes, the queen drives one, but hers is heavily modified, blacked out, lengthened, has had every interior service wrapped in real high quality leather, and actually looks good. Besides, the Swedish king drives a Volvo wagon, does that make Volvo comparable to Mercedes or Jaguar? Hell no, and the Toyotas driven by African dictators aren't seen as the height of class and luxury just because important people drive them either. Only obsequious tasteless fools hold the cars of the British monarchy to a different standard, if the car's crap it's crap no matter who owns one.
Rhiad Marhes Dickheads like that I would no associate with, anyone who has to boast about cost of repair and how expensive the vehicle was are vapid empty no personality people. They have little to add to any conversation and are of poor character.
i'll bet you that major mechanics and panel beaters(i'm in australia) pay carmax for this business...Its consumers that lose out not carmakers, mechanics or insurance companies. Its disgusting.Carmax won't lose a thing
I went to look at carmax's (extra boring) lot of cars last week. The amount of soccer moms and their "NIKE JUST DO IT" sons looking at Escalades and X5's was staggering, as were the insane prices on everything. Shitty base model 2010 automatic 328i? nearly 20k lmao. The interior wasn't even clean.
They set the price that people are willing to pay. They also have the cost of shipping the vehicles to production stores and inspecting them so they have to make up for those costs. Every dealer has a markup. You shouldn't be surprised.
The warranty isn't owned by Carmax. The reviews on the warranty are pretty bad now. They also caught on to doug's scheme and no longer offer such a good deal on unreliable cars (I tried looking into a smart car, terribly unreliable and the warranty cost shows it) and now the max coverage is 5 years. Carmax takes your car at a discount, marks it up and sells it at a no haggle price and finances your car at an inflated interest rate. Plus the get a commission for every warranty they sell.
He gets so excited about the frequency of repairs and the increasing amount of money saved, overlooking the hassle and frustration of getting a vehicle fixed. This all points to an advert for Carmax..
I was thinking the same thing , and the repair bills where dear , really mirrors out of sync and he took it to get repaired? he obviously has no mechanical skills at all or ability to read the owners manual
Kymier Fraizer Yeah, I always wanted one as well. I’d stay well away after hearing a few of these types of stories about em. It’s too bad, as they’re good looking & capable for anything you’d ever need to do.
There’s info on just about every car being shit, if you look for it. These really weren’t bulletproof, but any car of this era, especially “luxury” or performance oriented ones, are likely to have some issues. I found a 1 owner, 65k mile car exactly like this that had been sitting for 3 yrs after the owner passed away. It’s a great little truck. What sold me was the seats that were almost unused. The driver must have been 50 lbs of marshmallows. Anyway, if it’s your dream car, find a good one. Or go for something too boring to ever break.
@Scott Wiggins we have a Jeep CRD 2010 a Daihatsu sportrack 1995 and a 10 year old Range rover the sportrack is the most reliable, then the Jeep then old faithful but each one is different..thats why we keep them oh and the 25 year old 318 bmw coupe... and that currently wont start!
This video kept me from buying a used Range Rover for a few years but two years ago I bought a 2007 RR sport and it now has 160,000 mile and I never had a problem with it, not one think went wrong. A year ago I bought a 2008 RR HSE the larger model, it now has 187,000 again no problem ever. If you want to buy one get a 2007 or 2008 with the 4.4 motor and you will be fine.
For the record I've had a used 2010 Range Rover for 2 years now that I bought cpo from a Land Rover dealership and it's the best vehicle I've ever owned. Not a single problem. A better lesson to take from this video might be don't buy a used car from fucking CarMax instead of "don't buy a Range Rover"
How much of the car do they need to replace before they say, "That's not the car we sold you."
bryceowen lol
bryceowen I see some philosophy in this comment.
AK Safwat yeah it's like the whole "if you replace the handle and the hammer head on a hammer is it the same hammer"
Ship of Theseus problem: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_of_Theseus
They're hoping the vin plate on the dash breaks and needs to be replaced.

Give it to Arnold, & use it in his Crush Things charity campaign
Man....The design team at Range Rover/Jaguar are awesome, the cars are works of art from the outside. But you'd THINK by now that they'd train their mechanics & assembly lines to build/fix cars that last longer than 2-3 years lol. My XE is in the shop getting worked on right now, got a rental car Evoque & the infotainment system stopped working hahaha XD
Doug, the day the warranty expires, sell it back to CarMax. Depending on how much they offer, and taking into account the value of the warranty repairs, you might even come out ahead!
This Does Not Compute Omg that would be hilarious! That would totally Rustle their Jimmies! 😂😂
I'm Jewish, and even though that is extremely unethical, it would be hilarious if they actually bought it back. lmao
And after you sold it back, buy it back with a new 6 Year warranty
The only ethical thing todo is fill it up to the roof with candy, suspending it from a small crane and handing out sledgehammers.
I've heard this
I just spent 10 months driving Australia in my LR Discovery 3. Traversed every gravel road, beach, hill climb and goat track I could find from Cape York to Strathgordon and experienced no major issues.
Great car :)
What a load of BS; so nobody drives a Defender in the entire country!?
rene skytte
There are several Australian off road channels with Defender or even Series. The army Defender is tough!
The Land Cruiser is main stream but the Land Rovers are still there.
Look at isis combat footage in the middle eastern deserts, its all toyotas.
This is the best CarMax commercial ever ( no seriously, its awesome). Its making me seriously consider getting a CarMax warranty for the next vehicle ( if I go that route).
I've purchased two cars from there. best service I have experienced anywhere. 30 day money back guarantee and awesome extended warranty options
good for you nigga
lilrabbit129 they jacked up the prices of all the warranties after doug' videos came out. I don't think even he would buy their warranty now.
lilrabbit129 don't forget that not all cars are as unreliable as this Range Rover.
Christopher Smith absolute insanity how on Earth do they make money???
circlehousePRO Well, there interest rate is pretty high compared to buying new. As soon as my warranty is done, selling back to CarMax. I've heard there warranty prices are higher now than when Doug and I bought ours, but my receipts don't lie. CarMax has basically bought me a new car ;-D
not evry car breaks down... they sell thousads of these warranties.... think about the bank interest on 3800 dollars for 6 years
Aniket Shyam it's all a matter of credit lol
bank interest? seriously?
Sell it back to CarMax
I really hope that is what he does when he decides to be done with it. Although, it may be too old by that point
SOLOIIguru yea but they'll buy it anyway and auction out
paps511 They'll send it off to auction. Carmax wont sell any cars that are more than 10 years old.
And over 130,000 miles on average. Some cars like Range Rovers, Mercedes, and Cadillac's won't be bought with over 70,000 miles. I have the great fortune of working in purchasing with Carmax.
Sell it back to CarMax, then buy it from them again! With a new warranty of course!
$3900 for a 6 year warranty for an ancient range rover? what were they thinking? LOL
Lol I’m sure CarMax is rewriting heir extended warranty right about now 🤣🤣🤣
Hoovie must be in charge of their warranty department. 😂
CarMax actually already changed the policy because of Doug
Newer ones are better .......
@@jumperman1773 please elaborate
doug, a key to the warranty is before it expires pay the dealer to do the "certified " check. They will find all kinds of stuff they never looked for or you even knew was broken
Why do British sports cars have a passenger seat? So the mechanic has a place to sit.
James S It's not a sports car is it, duh.
James S funny but they are reliable. sometimes
I like that, very clever.
James S i will never ,never in my life will buy a british car 👎🏻
Not even the British buy them.
I wouldn't be surprised if CarMax goes out of business soon at this point.
He's the exception to the rule. They would just raise warranty prices if they were losing money.
I think he says in one of the early vids that they did raise the price shortly after he got it.
I think they've about doubled the cost of the identical warranty that Doug bought
He probably got a faulty example. They should have replaced the whole car. I don't believe other people have so much problems with their Range Rovers.
does Carmax own their warranty company or is through a 3rd party that they sell and service?
Ah the range rover. Hammond and May on top gear discussing how they both had one. Hammond : "Did yours ever, what's the word... Work?"
But it made it through the whole trip!
The Classic 3.5 or 3.9 are not like this electronic crap L322
Sell that junk before the warranty runs out..
archinuk417 totally agree , why people try to look good in these pieces of junk, buy a new one and then sell it in 4 years and if you cant afford it, get a new pick up , that will last years and years , dont try to be what you are not .
Antoine Sannfilipo I’m still waiting for the final update! I’m sure the warrant is up by now!
Sell it back to CarMax when the warranty expires...make them pay for it again!
Frank Nasrawi why are they selling cars that so imminently breakdown after sale? Sounds like they're selling piles of second hand shit tbf
If you buy a run of the mill Toyota or Honda from Carmax you'll likely have a totally uneventful experience with the reliability - however many paranoid customers do opt for the warranty anyway which helps offset the insane claims made by German car buyers :P
German cars are just inherently unreliable, especially when it comes to electronics.
If you wanna go off-roading take a Rover. If you wanna come back take a Toyota.
Having a bad attitude
Nah. That won't happen, since most wanna-be Yuppies that buy these buy them to look cool and rich driving around San Francisco, Praying to Jesus the repair Bill that is surely coming 6 weeks in the future doesn't cause a Divorce lol
Have you ever said something original?
@@1970borntorun unfortunately doesn’t apply now since JLR is owned by TATA and the L405 and L494 are reliable. These L322s were terrible but they were from the Ford era. Ford helped make terrible range rovers

Man, Range Rover makes Chrysler cars look reliable.
Altima NEO damn. I didn't even think that was possible.
Hahaha that's priceless.
WHOA! Settle down there, Satan.
Chrysler yes, dodge nah, dodge is more reliable even though the engine is a Chrysler engine, cause the guts in challengers are german made, the chassis is german made, the transmission, the brakes are all german. So build quality is exceptional. The engine is actually good despite being chrysler.
My 14 year old Jeep has seen it's share of repairs, but nothing to the tune of 12 at $15,000 +
Hands down my Favorite Doug DeMuro review. His glee at reading off EVERY SINGLE repair that was covered was priceless. thanks, Doug. We completely felt your joy here.
I'm surprised CarMax hasn't offered to buy back the car and give you another car.
Not sure about Carmax but wouldn't surprise me if they are selling the warranty from a third party.
Kelvin N car max track repairs. this story is BS or he knows the manager .
CarMax is obligated to fix the issues. all doug is responsible for is his deductible if he has one.
It is painfully obvious that Cherry Hill Land Rover is extremely fraudulent and not actually replacing parts. That is why the horn and steering column motor keep failing, they have never been replaced with new parts, yet the dealer keeps billing CarMax for fake repairs.
John Clarke you are likely correct!!!
John Clarke Or they're diagnosing the wrong part
You guys are kidding, right? I mean New Jersey is exactly where I think of when I think of honesty, integrity, and people who male an honest buck...
you wonder if the horns keep burning out.
Suboptimus Lime not all dealerships are like that. I'm a totally honest guy and no matter how bad a day I'm having, I never do a bad job because of it. Customers deserve better. Probly why our dealership has 4.9/5 stars on google
CarMax doesn't pay for all the time wasted
Or the inconvenience.
Or ur funerals!?
All the time wasted on the stupid purchase “you” decided to make??
The older you get the more you understand why people just purchase a camry. People just need to get to places and handle things, not deal with this crap.
The dealer knows you have warranty. So they find every possible issue.
And then some, they probably make some up too
You know how your body replaces all your cells every 7 years? Well a range rover gets itself entirely replaced every 7 years
"I might keep it because it has a lot of new parts on it." Yeah....new parts that consistently FAIL within a year.
But CarMax is not repairing the car. The Range Rover Dealer is reparing it. So CarMax does nothing but paying the bills. This Range Rover is just a giant piece of junk, nothing range rover or CarMax can do about
Mark Herbert Or they don’t know how to install them properly
I would hope that the Land Rover dealership knows (or has learned) how to insert these parts. Sounds like a design problem that has never been fixed. So it will keep failing if he were to keep using it as a daily driver.
RWDtech if it fails within the year, most dealerships warranty their work for a year, so they can just keep replacing them I guess.
and what about "again" ;-)
how are the newer models of range rovers? also not reliable?
TheGoldenRooster reliable
TheGoldenRooster no Range Rover is reliable lol
TheGoldenRooster mine is
TheGoldenRooster Mine is being super reliable...

Someone that can get a 6 year warranty from car max,
Doug will get banned from CarMax because of this car.
Radiation Network Range Rovers are meant for off roading. Doug was just using the car as intended, not his fault range rover is terrible.
You are kinda right but an off road vehicle with an off road use exclusion? Are you kidding us??
@@RadiationNetwork dumbass you could not be more delusional
@@RadiationNetwork Off roading is pretty standard use for a Range Rover.
Why range rovers have the lowest miles per gallon SUV? Because they spend most of Of those miles behind the tow truck. 😝
totally agree with you mate
Wasn't MG short for Morris garage.........long pedigree of grumbles as well. Glad to say we have a disco2 that has served us well for 500 thousand kilometres but as you say know your product well with your own tools

@@LIVINSPAC
Nah man, be careful with yours, my dad's 2017 TD Discovery Sport has had some serious issues, I understand that it may have been a faulty unit, but the LR dealership never said anything about it being a faulty unit even after the repairs.
PLEASE NEVER BUY FROM JAGUAR, OR BRITISH CARS (
except If you are rich and dont care about expenses).
are the bumpers included in the warranty?
I think it's bumper to bumper warranty, but I'm not sure.
No, just everything between the bumpers.

Is there not a warranty on all the garbage parts you are buying? Why is CarMax replacing something numerous times, and is the dealer not paying for it.
Gaming Culture the parts covered are usually cheap it's the labor for Cars that are expensive.
Gaming Culture but the dealer should be giving warranty on the whole repair.
Gaming Culture because they probably aren't diagnosing the correct problem. If a horn doesn't work, it could be a huge amount of different things that caused it
it's too complicated and expensive to investigate
edward james eventually CarMax may catch up to them and demand they find the real cause of his problems. idk. I know that GM tracks it's warranty repairs so this doesn't happen.
Buying a Range Rover ...... Dumb. Buying a Range rover with an extended warranty.....Genius.
It is still dumb, you will have to take it to repair it and wait till they fix it, which is very annoying for its frequency

I took over a lease on a 2015 Mercedes C300. This is my list of replacements and repairs done all under warranty on that vehicle over the course of just this February, one month! Every week was a new trip to the dealer...
Replacements:
Front driver's side window (wind noise)
Driver's seat headrest (broken adjustment)
Driver's seat back pocket (broken by dealer)
Left front axle shaft (strange noise)
Right front axle shaft (strange noise)
Left front upper control arm (strange noise)
Repairs:
Panoramic sunroof rattle (x2)
In-dash rattle(x2 but has returned)
trunk rattle (clip fell off inside trunk lid)
So all in all, my first German car experience... Well, I love my car actually, it is truly a pleasure to drive, but damn would it be expensive to own out of warranty.
Doug you should get a quote on Carmax to see what they value it at!
Boss - I was just thinking the same thing.
Trick- Can you explain what you mean? Were they being hard on paying it?
switch column motor control to off position so it doesnt readjust itself every time you start it
Do as all Range Rover owners here in Australia have done.
Johan Sidén from what i have heard, JLR qc has improved since Tata ownership. I may be wrong though. Anyone who knows the current scenario?
Nice part about being in the EU, faulty design = covered by legislation. Not only the part itself but any (sort of) damage the faulty part causes. Say for example the strut breaks and damages the subframe and wheel = covered.
I've heard Land rovers reliability is pretty sorry, now i'm pretty much sold on that rumor.
So basically.....don't buy a Range Rover. Thanks for this video. Mind has changed.
I was about to buy a RR Sport tdv6 ! I am so disapointed... they are real moneypits!
Thats common knowledge. Only rich retards buy them then regret it and never ever buy one again.
If anything you should be paying for quality materials and craftmanship so it shouldnt hurt a well built car to go past its magical service date. and might as well short Range Rover...
That's not true at all, and as bad of a rep as ford gets, they make products that are light years ahead of Range Rover in terms of reliability. Do a little research and you'll see that LR/RR products have always been horrid, and they still are.
Dustin Lien note to self: only buy used cars from CarMax
Land Rover/Range Rover make a lot of products that supposedly cater to a wide array of people, the common denominator is they're all horribly unreliable, even brand new. LR/RR has gone through many different owners and they've always consistently stayed unreliable. From Ranger Rover Classics, to modern full sized behemoths.
Fords aren't always the most reliable cars, but they're far superior in that regard to LR/RR, not that that's saying much.
RR is rolls royce lmao
I sold my 2011 Land Rover LR4 to CarMax in January. It had a huge dent in the side, needed a new transmission because it couldn’t pass smog and the transmission was so bad it bounced like a low rider. I was told by the dealer it would cost 40k to repair everything. CarMax paid me 10k.
So if I understand correctly, the single greatest car you have ever owned is a total bomb for everyone but the mechanic? Oh and you plan to keep it after the warranty, I'm certain that will work well for you.

BUMPER TO BUMPER
Range Rover = complete piece of crap, but it looks nice.
Lol i have heard that from the owners
@@patriciomunoz2830 you literally heard it as you were writing this comment , lie much ?
That's every luxury car besides Lexus
Love mine
Nice looking Pos
So they rebuilt your car basically lol
It's just a couple of parts that keep getting broken over and over again 😂😂
Sounds like shitty parts and service to me!
dcinhere Sound like a British car to me!
When you replace all the parts... is it still the same car??? Tatatatatatata...doediedoedie... "alien sounds"..
Whimper - to - whimper warranty, eh!
Warrant to warranty unlimited mileage bumper.
Most awaited Video on a Range Rover of all time
Great warranty! Range Rovers without a warranty is a no buy and pretty worthless unless you find a sucker that is!
Doug forced them to raise Rover warranty $9k
Say that for most high end Euro cars.
This car needs to be crushed into a cube.
Melted and made into razor blades.
could I get a warranty on the razor blades as well?
Phil B to shave my balls
Like most Range Rover catastrophes ever made....
You have 30 minutes to remove your cube.
Do you use your horn a lot or something ;)
Hey, it's New Jersey!
EdWatts oh fuck. If he's in Jersey, then fuck yeah he's using the horn a lot on a daily. Born and raised in Jersey....and people drive like assholes out there. Whether north or south.
Chris Flugstad
Exactly!
I blow horns in Jersey till they burn out. (& Ive burned out 3)
I wouldn't be surprised if CarMax will stop giving warranties for used Range Rovers after this.
Im saying he basically just ruined the warranty game for everyone lol
In a way, he did. They no longer sell 6 year warranties and they're much more expensive now. He made a video about that about a year ago.
People have to stop with this lol don't expose good deals only bad deals so they'll make more good deals. We as consumers have more power
Glad I bought a Shogun now.
It was a toss up between the two but having worked at land Rover and seen how they're made plus the reliability issues the shogun won it!
"It's got a lot of new parts" that all seem to fail despite being new
man is no fool he has shares in dealer ship win win .
Another fine example of a quality Land Rover product.
One has to be a glutton for punishment to keep the ownership of such a car.
Doug it's a Land Rover did you
expect it to be reliable?
I drove the discovery, it was so bad, that I would I have trade it it back for my old 1979 chevy Vega wagon😤
Aaron Lopez Doug obviously didn’t know any better!
These cars are made by elves in the North Pole.
How in the hell does a horn fail multiple times in just a few years?
It's very sad for me to watch this video. I' ve been dreaming about Range Rovers my whole life and I was planning to get one as my first car (an old and used one of course). Now I know It is not gonna happen, but thank you Doug for preventing me going broke
If CarMax goes under it is because of Doug and his Rover
I would sell it back to CarMax
And then buy it back with another 6 year warranty
pyro1324 calm down, Satan. I want Carmax to stay in business so I can buy a warranty too
lmao, you guys are cruel. But seriously i wonder how long they can sustain this mode of business.
Sam Bozeman q
danny notofconcern probably indefinitely. It's the same as insurance. I bet they've sold thousands of warranties where it paid out very little compared to the cost of it. I am surprised they don't have some sort of cap though
We finally got to know about his car !
Skaarj RPG he's mentioned it a year or two agai
ago
Yea, but he reviewed so many cars, that me and a lot of guys missed it.
I'll take a German car over a Japanese one any day.
Hahah not mazda, they lose 80% of value in 3-4 years. Faster than anything else. you could buy a mazda today for $28k 2 years later its worth 8k.
Rhiad Marhes Dickheads like that I would no associate with, anyone who has to boast about cost of repair and how expensive the vehicle was are vapid empty no personality people. They have little to add to any conversation and are of poor character.
Oh I get it... Doug's "Recidivist Range Rover Catastrophe" is the entire reason we are paying so darn much for a warranty at CarMax!
LOL!
i'll bet you that major mechanics and panel beaters(i'm in australia) pay carmax for this business...Its consumers that lose out not carmakers, mechanics or insurance companies. Its disgusting.Carmax won't lose a thing
How does CarMax still exist?
Overcharging on used vehicle purchases and ridiculous financing rates.
Plus the get a commission for every warranty they sell.
selling warranties to a lot of Honda and Toyota buyers who never need to a claim.
He gets so excited about the frequency of repairs and the increasing amount of money saved, overlooking the hassle and frustration of getting a vehicle fixed. This all points to an advert for Carmax..
Because theyre replacing parts with used non OEM parts. Theyre cutting corners somewhere..
I was thinking the same thing , and the repair bills where dear , really mirrors out of sync and he took it to get repaired? he obviously has no mechanical skills at all or ability to read the owners manual
You better get off on your own girl
land rover makes x3 times more money from replacement parts
that's their way of maximizing profit I suppose
Every dealer makes their bank in service. Not selling cars
Dam this was my dream car, not any more.. dam
Honestly the repairs don't seem that bad if you know how to wrench.
I was about to buy a RR Sport tdv6 ! I am so disapointed! They are money pits...
