One day, most of these men will get out of these cages. And, when set free, we somehow expect that though they lived as animals, in an often brutal enviorment, they should immediately become fine, upstanding citizens. It completely lacks logic. If we as a country don't wake up and realize that rehabiliting those who can be rehabilitated, from the day they walk into prison, needs to be a top priority, things will just get worse. It's mind boggling to me that most people just don't get this.

It´s hard enough to be in there...If you are not sentenced to life in prison and there is a possibility that you will get out one day, you should be able to fit in again...they should prepare you for the life out there, they should teach you what´s right and what´s wrong...I am here for learning my lesson, i wanna learn how to live the right way. At most two people can fit in between the 6 pack at a time. On a carrier most birthings are filled with 40-50 people.

The berthing areas ( barracks ) on ship compared to the cell you showed would hold a minimum of 6-8 men with the coffin racks dimensions are 24 inches wide 18 inches high and 6 feet long with a mattress that is 2 inches thick when you get assigned to a ship you would get one sheet and one wool blanket. The space between rows of racks was 24 inches the locker is under you mattress and is 6 inches high 24 wide 6 feet long. It make for a interesting way to live and this was on pre 1990’s navy ships for the enlisted men. Around that time the department of prisons was considering using old carriers for prisons they toured a modern carrier of the 1990’s and then made there report which said the living conditions on a navy ship where not fit for human habitation let alone federal prisoners. I spent 8 years of my life living like that. They would do health and welfare inspections on lockers at different times food and other items where contraband and would be take and then you get written up and then there would be the drug dogs searching the ship when the ship pulled into port and at the time you could smoke anywhere on the ship so my birthing area on my first ship was 35 feet by 65 feet we had about 180 men living in that space the smoke was so thick that you had a hard time see in there my rack was on the floor and the smoke was thick there to. I do understand where she is coming from especially when I was a young sailor.

1:00 - I served aboard 2 Navy warships, a destroyer and an aircraft carrier. Our bunks were stacked 3 high, similar to your picture. Two sets of these bunks would be in the size cell you described. So, 6 sailors are living in an area designed for 2 or 3 federal prisoners. Of course, sailors can leave that area at any time but they spend about 8 hours a day in that sleeping (berthing) area. They work the other 16 hours.

I’m a criminal defense attorney in my state. I typically deal with state issues and our jails and prisons versus federal level but this video is exactly why I went into criminal defense. Especially when people are getting locked up and no bail for a simple possession charge. Before anyone says well they broke the law!! Yes. They did. But on a small simple possession charge or a case with real weak evidence... there are other ways to handle it. And you still can’t treat them as sub human. Some may disagree but I like 60 days in because it shows both sides. Jails are rougher than prisons but still you see what inmates deal with and at least at these jails those in charge want to see what’s happening. You can tell me they want to be on tv and sure. But also, remember that all of the inadequacies of their jails are then being shown on national tv. So.
Edit: as per the beds and size. At least those were in bed form. Some in some prisons sleep on the floor. So....

@@ganjakittens Ok well, first of all, plenty of those criminals commit victimless crimes (e.g. possession of a controlled substance, prostitution/solicitation, embezzlement, etc). They didn't harm anyone. I'd rather my tax dollars went toward treating prisoners in a humane way and keeping the recidivism rate low instead of things like overfunding the military. Plus, many prisons are privately owned and operated anyway and they actually make money off prisoners. If prisons provided prisoners with the proper tools and resources to make a better life for themselves on the outside, the U.S. wouldn't have the highest recidivism rate in the world and we wouldn't have to waste taxpayers' money. Just look up big riots like New Mexico State pen riot. MANY people died and the Staff was taken hostage but they weren’t getting proper food (GI diseases were common) and over population was also part of the issue to riot against the prison. Riots are totally preventable as long as inmates are treated humanely

I wasn't in prison. But I was in Provo canyon school for troubled teens. That place was very simmilar to the way you discribed prison. And when you showed me these images, they looked almost like I've been there. PCS should be shut down for the way they treat you. And in prison it's still not okay to treat people like that. PCS is a place to get help, not cause more pain. I never got a single vist my whole stay. And they treated me like shit, when I found out they don't look in your used tampons, boy was I hiding my contriban in them.

Crowded in a cell with no room to move? 3 bunks crammed together? That's exactly how the accommodations were on the destroyer I served on in the Navy. I lived like that for 3 years at sea! The berthing compartment I was in had something like 40-50 bunks in it ( I never counted). You learn in the Navy to not even turn around unless you look because you will be bumping into something or someone. Add to that the movement of the ship. Your "floor" (deck) is constantly moving unless you are in port. If the prisoners can't handle jail, they would not handle the claustrophobic conditions on the old fleet destroyer I served on . I was in the Navy 4 years.

    “I hate Oat Meal”
If it’s the texture that you don’t like, you should try steel cut oats ..(and not microwave/quick-cook) - boiled in water or milk, add irish butter and a nice heap of brown sugar. It’s delicious and a very different experience to the Oats you’re probably used to. Very healthy meal too.

Okay, I have to say this right away. I was a Submariner. On Trident submarines. Well, our bunks were slightly nicer with curtains. To give us privacy. They were stuck a high with exactly that amount of space. And there were nine bunks 2 a room of that size.

I used to wonder about that too. I already had a lease w/ my wife and when I came out I just moved back in and kept on keeping on. Someone (from the 'victim' in my case, a relative who's a cop or something I think) tried to make trouble for me but the apartment complex shut him down hard.

Oh honey, when I was in county jail here in Birmingham, Al, we are so overcrowded!! We have 6x8 cells with the normal two rack bunk and they were putting us 4-8 girls in ONE cell!! I slept on a mat by the toilet in my cell for 3 months until I finally got released into a women’s rehab!! When we needs to heat something up or light something we had an exposed wire on our ceiling light that we used!! 😂😂 crazy now that I think about it 🤔

They get smuggled in. Back in 2000-2001 there was at least one person (a woman named Jeanette) at FCI Fairton who was smuggling in bikini pics of herself, cell phones and even letting inmates use her actual BOP radio. LOL I was like god dayum... Yeah she ended up doing time in CT at the fed womens facility.

I'm not going to throw that " well you shouldn't have broke the law" line out BUUUT if our military deal with worse than that and our navy soldiers sleep on bunks probably lile that or even smaller. Then it's not inhumane. Also to touch on the oatmeal packs I understand what you were saying but then again look at what our military get stuck with..."M.R.E'S . I love your content you put out but this video to me was more of a "pity party" . Now don't get wrong I KNOW inmates get treated like sh*it amd treated like they're nothing and THAT is wrong! But again I love your content keep up the good work.

I gotta agree- sailors (and probably soldiers as well) sleep in quarters smaller than that and they haven’t even done anything wrong! It would make sense if the worst/most violent offenders get put in bad spaces but to have non violent offenders (possession of weed) cooped up there with them is messed up.
