Not true at all everyone who’s arrested goes to jail and held there until their trial if convicted get transferred to prison. But yes you can get sentenced to jail time for smaller crimes but your still housed with murderers who are awaiting trial

Misconceptions: 1. You'd rather be in jail than prison. No. If you're going to be in for a while then prison is much more free and many more privileges. 2. Prisons are where felon's are. No. Before one is final sentenced (found guilty) of those charges they are in jail awaiting trial. This often takes a year or two. So in jail you'll find the same violent offenders you will find in prison in a few years. In the jail in my area you hear people every day say they can't wait to go to prison. These are normally medium security facilities where they can have special Android (like) tablets with games and movies on them, their own TV's, freedom to roam the yard, radios, prison jobs, and is less crowded than jail. I can't express enough how untrue that misconception is (at least) in my area of the US.
Name Withheld there is also another misconception you forgot to mention, several misdemeanor charges can end up throwing inmates to prisons instead of what the narrative thinks that they serve time in jail. For charges being sentenced 2 years or more( of course after they are being convicted from court ) will automatically send to state prison. Normally those misdemeanors will send to minimum custody to serve sentence just like narrative said. But it is not going to be in jail environment for sure. Also that really depends on that charge of misdemeanor for and the various purpose of each prison as well. Some say that if there is a DUI as first offender, they will be offered some rehab program outside prison and will be released if finish that rehabilitation program. Another misconception is those programs jail offers vs state offers. Obviously, state prison manages way larger than county jail can manage here, so you think all county jails can offer those so called programs for inmates that much? Nah.....don’t think so. State prison has way a lot more resource to conduct those programs for inmates than county jail because state prisons pick up inmates from all corners of the whole state! Duh! Last but not least, it is about the food. Do you even know it is actually those inmates’ own fault to make those prison food that bad? Because food made in prison never add two major ingredients: salt and yeast! Maybe pepper can be included somehow. Because too much peppers is harmful not only to inmate’s body, but also staff if inmates collect those peppers as contraband. As we all know, salt is the main source to make the food tasty, but salt also can make inmates in hunger strike when they intended to use salt to throw up. Talking about yeast....i pretty sure all inmates know why prison food never put yeast in there, so no explanation needed. In conclusion, you can blame on those who previously commit those infractions while in prisons. State prison only do what they must to avoid any contrabands into the prisons.
I worked in Corrections--and I need to correct the videographer--on the State level, there are different levels: County jail, Work Camp, minimum security, medium security, maximum security and Federal Govt" (SUPERMAX). County Jail is for (as you said) misdemeanors, as well as pre-trial, post-trial, and waiting for a bed to open in a State Prison. A Camp is usually called a Labor Camp, because it is meant for shorter sentences, using work on road crews, fire crews, etc., as a way to get paroled/probated quicker. Minimum--is usually for shorter sentences (below 50 years), and for smaller crimes (A murderer, as opposed to serial murderer). Maximum--is for lifers/ death row/people too dangerous to be in general population/people who could be killed in general population. Most medium and maximum prisons have What is usually call Administrative Segregation, or Adseg--these are for inmates who commit crimes in prison; Inmates who are in danger of being attacked or killed (including convicted police/snitches/child molesters). The ONLY SuperMax in the U.S. is ADX Florence, Colorado, a Federal Penitentiary., the inmates housed there are mostly high profile/insanely dangerous guys, like El Chapo, the Unibomber, The Oklahoma City Bombers, etc.
@@se7enthedge382 You can do well without a gang. I know a guy who did time in a prison and didn't join a gang, just kept to himself and didn't fw a lot of people.
Having worked as a Correctional Officer I can say that I actually felt safer when working at a Prison than a Jail. People with long sentences often have accepted that is their home, and want it to stay relatively calm (as much as possible in a prison) It's people with short sentences who act thugish, and make problems for others. We worked 1 Officer to 128 inmates there, and I never felt safer in the prison than when in a pod full of murderers, since they knew how to do their time. This was a Medium security Prison with about 1,500 inmates to 50 Officers. We also had a minimum security complex, as well as a Max housing unit.
I was in jail over C's hard times then. Seems like most inmates waiting be sent to prison try causes more problems and violences then short timers. This was in baxley ga. Dealt with it then left 30 days later. I knew if I would have gotten to fight I probably would have been hurt too but I would have done more time maybe assault just for defending myself.
I work as a nurse in jail, we get them straight off the street, high, off their meds, detoxing, angry, crazy as f…, I kinda wonder sometimes if working in prison would be easier…
As a CO myself I can second that. I've restricted myself to prison rather than working at a jail because by the time they hit prison they've calmed down a lot and like you said tend to accept it as their home and keep trouble to a minimum. Hello from the WVDCR

Jail is like solitary. Most are 23hour lockdown I hour of rec and you have to share a cell. Jail is so so so much worse than prison for a long stay. ...FYI
I’ve had inmates that didn’t want to file for a writ because they didn’t wanna be taken from our minimum security prison and sit in a jail for months to wait for a court date
I've been to jail and prison in California and here's the differences: Jail you get nothing but 1 jumpsuit and 1 shirt and socks and underwear and you exchange it twice a week and county issued shoes. Prison: you get alot of different types of clothes you can order Nikes or Adidas, pro clubs, hats, beanies Jail:you get one TV in the day room (place where the phones and tables are at) Prison: you can order your own TV and place it on your bunk, and you can also order CDs with a CD player Jail: top ramen soups are 1.29$ Prison: top ramens are 25c Jail has barely anything to do and prison you can get a job like a real warehouse job and you can go to vocational classes and stuff
While I commend you for actually discussing the differences, the fact that prisoners have many more rights than those simply in jail is not a minor point, and it can make jail far more like a supermax facility than a minimum security prison.

In what part of the US are prisoners allowed things like tablets and everything else you mentioned??
@@nickg1722 many parts. They have alot in prisons
Also, all of this information is USA only. In the UK we don't have this distinction
Yes. People who have first hand experience pretty much always greatly prefer prison.
Simple
Jail: pre-sentencing/misdemeanor sentences
Prison: post-sentence now serving state or federal time
Pretty much.
There was no reason to explain.
Robert Hartman yeah because a lot of people apparently didn’t know 🤦🏾♀️
Apparently you guys didn't read the comments from weeks ago when I posted that
Apparently you thought you had to explain to the whole comments section what the video explained.
Thanks for the information

Having worked as a Correctional Officer I can say that I actually felt safer when working at a Prison than a Jail. People with long sentences often have accepted that is their home, and want it to stay relatively calm (as much as possible in a prison) It's people with short sentences who act thugish, and make problems for others. We worked 1 Officer to 128 inmates there, and I never felt safer in the prison than when in a pod full of murderers, since they knew how to do their time. This was a Medium security Prison with about 1,500 inmates to 50 Officers. We also had a minimum security complex, as well as a Max housing unit.
Salute!
There’s a code of respect in prison… so people watch there every move and how to interact.

*THERE'S A DIFFERENCE?*
I thought that too xd
Everybody I've ever talked to says they'd rather do prison than jail, at least people that have done both
I've been to jail and prison in California and here's the differences:
Jail you get nothing but 1 jumpsuit and 1 shirt and socks and underwear and you exchange it twice a week and county issued shoes.
Prison: you get alot of different types of clothes you can order Nikes or Adidas, pro clubs, hats, beanies
Jail:you get one TV in the day room (place where the phones and tables are at)
Prison: you can order your own TV and place it on your bunk, and you can also order CDs with a CD player
Jail: top ramen soups are 1.29$
Prison: top ramens are 25c
Jail has barely anything to do and prison you can get a job like a real warehouse job and you can go to vocational classes and stuff
Wow...XD.

While I commend you for actually discussing the differences, the fact that prisoners have many more rights than those simply in jail is not a minor point, and it can make jail far more like a supermax facility than a minimum security prison.
