      I got offered a job at a medium security prison running and teaching inmates to cut color perm ect. I had my barber/ cosmetology instructors licenses. But I decided not to take it because I was having a hard time with some personal issues. There are many times that I regret not being able to take the position.I am also a recovering addict. I also was friends with 2 female inmates that were on school release and that was a taboo for workers being friends with inmates. I knew that I would have a very hard time keeping boundaries straight.

    I think jail is way worse!! There are so many emotions in jail!! Your life is hanging in the balance! Your awaiting your sentence and not knowing what is going to happen! In prison you’ve excepted your fate and are settled in to where you will be for the rest of your sentence. You are awaiting to get all your books together for commissary and your phone calls in jail.. in prison your able to establish all of that and start getting your mail from family and what not!

    It baffles me how much jails and prisons are like psychiatric hospitals. Your descriptions (specifically the jail) remind me so much of the times I have been in psychiatric hospitals. I struggle with depression (I have bipolar disorder, anxiety issues, and borderline personality disorder) and I have never ever thought of harming anyone. I have been in psych hospitals in three different countries (where I live, where my parents live, and where my sister lives). They are all the same. And even though you don't have "charges" or a "sentence", you never know how long you'll be there and if you did something they didn't like, they would decide you were not ready to go yet (i didn't shampoo my hair one day because they made us wash our hair with cheap ass shampoo that ruins it and I got into trouble because I was uncooperative with treatment.). My stays have varied from 1 month to one year. They treat you like a piece of garbage. There needs to be more compassion everywhere. In one video you stated that saying you were suicidal will put you in a secluded room, same in a psychiatric hospital: you get the "quiet room", a padded room where you are not allowed to even have a book or talk to anyone. If you get upset because they don't let you go to the bathroom, they bring huge ass guards to give you a shot to knock you out. I was never aggressive and I still got the treatment. The cement cage description... that hit home a little too hard. In one hospital we had that "yard" in others we had nothing. We just had our room are were not allowed to talk to anybody.

    I had friends who spent over a year in jail and never went outside once. That's so crazy to me, because here you're supposed to go outside at least an hour a week. In prison, I was in the mountains and so it was built where each unit had hallways so the inmates (mainly the officers) didn't have to walk through feet of snow to multiple times a day to get places, and I knew guys who would choose to not ever go outside on the yard for months to years. I don't understand how you can choose to go a year without ever seeing the daylight or feeling fresh air in your lungs after being in that smelly, nasty dorm all day every day.

    As a German, I find it irritating, to say the least, that before you have even been sentenced to prison, you can lose your freedom so easily. Even for a misdemeanour.
    In Germany, if the police "catch" you committing a crime, they can detain you for a maximum of 24 hours. In exceptional cases, the police can hold someone for longer. This is called pre-trial detention. In this case, however, they must apply for a court order to confirm the suspicion. In addition, certain criteria must be met for pre-trial detention.

    I have a crazy “locked up” hair story too! I was in juvie in Arizona and they made us have 3 rubber bands at all times and we had to have our hair in a bun with all 3 in there. Let me stress this again- rubber bands, not hair ties, RUBBERBANDS. If one broke (again, RUBBERBAND!) you got a privilege taken away. I had to get a full hair cut when I got out, and it was hard to explain why my hair was so damaged without telling the stylist that I just came from juvie and had to wear literal rubberbands in my hair 😑

Our minimum security was a dorm style, no bunk style beds, all single beds in their like a cubicles of 2, our medium security & max security were both single cells. Usually the women kept their cells/bunk areas much cleaner than the guys! I loved my job there because I had a good rapport with the inmates....every now & then there would be that one that was difficult in the beginning though! County jails suck! I did six months in county, and I think that should be the MAX! Everything you said, be=ut we went to a gym for rec always, not even a wisp of fresh air. I know a guy who'd been in there almost 2 years waiting to go to trial. I'd have lost my damn mind being there that long. It's inhumane.

    The first time that I went to jail, I was in a small county jail, in Michigan. We were given one hour per week, in an outside small, fenced area.

I have know a few people that served time and turned there life around . Some of the ways they treat woman are horrible. We need reform too help these issues

    Yeah I’ve been in county four or five times. One of the times I was on hallucinogens hard, like out of my mind. I’ll never forget being in jail tripping balls. In Harris county, Houston TX. It’s known to be one of the worst jails in existence. I’ve been in with my best friends mom and her cousin. I did 120 days my last time in county jail. I did get a trustee job working in commissary, thank god. We could sometimes steal snacks but we had to eat them while working bc they WILL catch you trying to bring something back. That’s all it took for me to straighten up 😂

    I had a friend from prison who stole police car multiple times as a trustee in Mississippi... And they kept making him a trustee. I mean, he never used it to actually escape, once he went to get food with the officer's cash from his wallet and came back, and the other time he went to see his wife and ended up getting drunk and falling asleep there.

    Never been to prison, jail was enough for me. There was about 10- 12 people in my cell and I was pretty much the only non smoker. It drove me insane. There was always so much smoke it looked like a pool hall. Which I’m pretty sure they can’t smoke anymore.

    The funny thing is that I have heard the threat so many times you've going to end up in state! Everyone thinks that this is supposed to be scary but the truth is county is the toughest time you will ever do. If you keep to yourself and have some common sense you can actually have some kind of life in prison. A lot tougher in jail.

    • @ThumperG
      @ThumperG 2 года назад

      The threat is more about 1. Having a Felony record which could make the rest of your life extremely difficult. I can tell you personally finding a job is next to impossible in my area once they find out your a felon. Second, sure jail might be tougher because it’s so stagnant, but if your in jail you know you will be going home soon. The hardest part of doing time in prison is being away from family, friends and normal life. That’s why it’s such a threat over county jail.

    Hi, Jess! I've been watching all of your videos latetly! I wanted to ask your opinion on something. I just found that that Constitutionaly, slavary is alowed in the US when it comes to criminals (which omfg thats crazy), and that's why they pay inmates so little for their work, if the even pay them. I'm pretty sure that is why the US is the country with the most prisoners in the world, since many companies gain and live because of them. What do you think about that?

    If taxpayers really knew what was going on in state prisons, they would stop paying taxes for all those benefits. State prisons are basically, communities with all kinds of amenities including sex, drugs, entertainment, and freedoms within the prisons walls. It's a shame. No punishment, no reform, just baby sitting till time served.
