Good on you for throwing some money at it. Absolutely magnificent… not just one of the finest MB ever made but one of the finest cars ever made IMHO and will probably gain even more road presence as it ages. I’m really jeal… err… pleased for you.
I hope you get it detailed....or get a youchoober to do it for you, so we can share the joy of its restoration. A bit boxy, but still a very classy car; certainly better than alot of modern cars, so worth spending the money in the long term IMHO.
W140 and R129 were so ahead of their time. One of the best cars Mercedes ever made. But I still drive my W124 because it is cheaper to run and parts are still available. Thank you for sharing this amazing car

Sorry to say this I don’t like European cars. One they are very expensive to fix And 2 one small job turn in a big job most maintenance you have to pull the car a part to do anything. You can have those cars I would never own one.
Nice car a Bruno Sacco design. The W140 was when Mercedes started adding more gadgets and electrical gizmos. I’m glad you were able to find the battery draw in the alternator cause sometimes working on these can be a big deal trying to track down the draw. I’ve purchased aftermarket mirrors before and they’re pretty good as far as the looks and fit not Mercedes-Benz but work. Awesome job Sam!

What technical ability you have. You make it all seem so easy but that has come from years of practical experience. To someone like me, who knows very little about the workings of cars it`s like watching a magician at work as cars come in with lots of problems. very often not working at all, you work your magic and hey presto, they go out in perfect working order. I love watching this.

Would love to come across and see you at some point and very grateful for your input on the wiper blade nightmare we have been enduring for a while now. Excellent and wish you the very best

I have owned both the w126 and w140 cars. I used to think the W126 was peak Mercedes but after owning a short wheelbase M119 engine W140 I liked the W140 better after I sorted its many issues. I think the first phase of production was built better than the 2nd phase 96 and newer but I prefer the 2nd phase for the better fuel injection and ignition systems and the 5-speed auto 722.6. Now driving a W124 E420 and like that as well.

I own 2019 S560. I agree that Mercedes designers should have to work on these. Then maybe the ability to work on them would greatly be improved. I am good do it myself mechanic and the alternator on newer models are a nightmare. Great video as always.
Another great video guys well done. I have been told multiple times here in Australia that this s class series is a shocker because of all the electrical issues. Might just be the local climate which affects the car.
was expecting a much bigger bill, that sounds very good considering quite a few parts like the new battery, alternator, air flow meter alone, mot service and all the jobs completed, great work guys, if i owned a merc and was near you i would deffo be using you, cant bet a specialist workshop for knowledge and price, i watch high peak autos and matt always gives you guys a shout out for quality work.
My .2005 450 smart cabrio had all services and brake fluid was changed as part of regular work. Wiper blades were changed once a year. It was a very expensive car to maintain although it was a great city car (apart from the a/c failing five times in four years). The S-class was an impressive car. The turning circle was incredibly tight for such a big car. Had a ride on the Unterturkeim test track in a 600 SEL in 92. The 90 degree banked turn was fun (went around it at about 200 kmh - the driver took his hands off the wheel as the car tracked perfectly)
Good to see older Mercedes still on the road and in decent condition ( with a little bit of care and attention). Great video Sam, really enjoy them all,, keep them comming.
Brilliant video, thank you. There is a chronic need for Specialists like SPR. Imagine a main dealer trying to sort that lot out. I had a similar issue twice with a Porsche 911 where the main dealers didn't have a clue. It wasn't until I found a Specialist that I got the car properly sorted out. Otherwise they just get scrapped with all the implications for the environment.
I've recently found your channel and am enjoying it. More videos on this era of Merc if you can! 129, 124, 140 etc! Your presenting has certainly improved over time, well done.
Another great video - very interesting and entertaining. What a lovely car! However, you might want rethink your method of finding the source of a current drain? Leaving the battery connected and waiting to see which component catches fire is a bit risky!! Glad no real harm was done and you did find the source. I am not a Merc owner but always find the videos interesting. Look forward to the next one.

The blades are available on Autodoc for under £10.00 And it may be "boring" for you but I would recommend that you film the maintenance and such as people like to see it being done. As for the bracket from the gearbox to the exhaust its usually better to use a exhaust mounting clamp.

Went to Brussels in my (then ) Chairman’s S500 car when I was a nipper in summer 1992 on biz - same colour and interior as the one in your vid. We went over by hovercraft from Dover and the channel was mirror calm both ways - so it felt like flying over water from UK to France and then flying over land in the car. It was stunning. Never really been in a car like it since.
I must admit that I have also thought this particular model of Mercedes was one of the best. I remember a business colleague a few years ago in Norway picking me up from the airport in W140, which was probably at least 20 years old with 300km on the clock, and drove like new.spent a few hours in that car and it was memorable. £2k to fix this car is a snip. Love your cut-ins, getting nifty on the editing Sam. 😊
I’ve got an old grandpa S class Mercedes Benz here. He’s a 1976 450SE. Still runs great and drives well. In the cooler part of next year, I’m going to restore it, though I am going to change the colour of the car.

Alternator failed on my 07 e class with om 642 after I installed lead acid battery instead of AGM, apparently alternator puts out close to 15. 3 volts on that setup and lead acid could not take it and cooked the rectifier on the alternator.
@@mikestrivens2039 random question. Did you have a whistling noise coming from your air vents randomly? Im on the look out for a cl500 coupe to match, smashing cars.
Hi great vlogs. I bought clk240avantgarde 2004 and it had loads of warning lights ESP, BAS, SRS, ABS. NO dipped left headlight no left number plate light etc, etc. So nothing wrong with the the headlight bulb and the fuses were fine. So I unplug the headlight unit 20 odd pin socket check the power with a multimeter that a car shop sold me and get no voltage then I check the meter on the battery and still nothing. So it's a d dodgy meter which wasted loads of time. Anyway spray the various power supply sockets and do the number plate light and magically we lose most of the warning lights and I get the dipped headlight back. I also had topped up the battery with ionised water as well. Lost the engine warning light as well. The engine is 96k miles and perfect by the way. But still getting SRS warning light left which is the seat belt restraint no? I sprayed it with silicon spray as someone advised and it does retract and lock when you pull it. Any ideas? No I don't have or want an obd2 reader that everyone seems to have. Which I think gives people more confusion than solutions. I think people don't need to go to a shrink if they have mental health issues. Just get in an old classic Merc and go for a drive late at night on a quiet dual carriageway and drive the merc and all your problems will seem trivial when you get home with a big smile on your face
Stunning mate 👌🏻 I’ve been glued to your channel for months. Had a few Mercs over the years, a mix of old and new. Currently driving a E250 Coupe, C207 facelift. OM651. Our Hyundai Tucson did the same at my mates garage, the charge light was on the dash which cleared when I was driving to get it fixed. As he drove it on to a ramp a couple of hours later... smoke everywhere!

6:14 - I see the SnapOn man has arrived to relieve you if some of your hard earned. Run the car and turn the steering wheel in either direction until fresh fluid started to come out of the hose.

OM651. It’s done me well, found a specialist near me to keep on top of it. If you were taking on new customers, I would book you 2 years in advance. All the best. Shout out to the boys in the garage too, stick in lads 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I'm lucky enough to own 3 of these. Love trouble shooting the electrics. Lots of fun.
Our Hyundai Tucson did the same at my mates garage, the charge light was on the dash which cleared when I was driving to get it fixed. As he drove it on to a ramp a couple of hours later... smoke everywhere!
Another top video Sam…. A man after my own heart saving the classics my SL is begging for your attention it’s now in hibernation for the winter but if you ever get the chance to give it the once over it would be more than appreciated, gear box service, brake flush, air con top up, oil and filter change, cheers pal 👍
Did atf oil go into the power steering? As far as I know, there should be, for example, liqui moly 3100?:)
That song popped in my head, “alternator, it’s probably the alternator, it’s probably the alternator” 😂
Lovely car and she deserved your careful attention. Thank you, a very pleasant episode
6:14 - I see the SnapOn man has arrived to relieve you if some of your hard earned.
I suppose technically you could change the power steering fluid if the fluid return line was intercepted and the hose poked into a separate container. Run the car and turn the steering wheel in either direction until fresh fluid started to come out of the hose.
Lovely o’l girl
The chap that purchased our C230 Komi has one and loves the car
I think his was a V8
But your right they are nice and not to “Complicated”✅
Cheers
