- Create a sliding table with counterweights to store some of the heaviest equipment in your shop and save on floor space.
This project has been a long time coming and if you pay close attention you'll notice how short my beard is in the beginning of the project compared to now. The build process of this video is over 140 individual clips alone and was a monster to edit. Hopefully you enjoy it and get some good inspiration!

Watching your Slide Away Table video. First time watching one of yours and I gotta say, I like your style! A great balance of watching operations without being monotonous and seeing the project come together.
Well done looks like mounting to the wall on folding table is the way to go.
Great idea and turned out great as well. This is not the first video I've seen were people are trying to figure out storage for their CNC but yours is definitely the most ingenious great job.
+Travis Brumfield Thanks Travis! I watched a bunch other video's as well when I was trying to come up with a storage solution for mine. I wanted to show it off and have it face forward though so I had to come up with my own idea.
That's F'n Impressive! And the video/editing...awesome!
+Bruce B Thanks Bruce!
I think Izzy, Matthias and John H. Would be impressed with this bottom (vs top flip up) to the wall design with counter weights! I know I am - haha.
+MRrwmac LOL, Thanks!
cant go wrong with maple when it comes to table/ legs. i like the pulleys u made.one of these days ill get a cnc. need more space 1st..lol good stuff ty!
+Joe basementwoodworking Yea.. More space in deed! I didn't even think about the amount of space needed for this thing.
+Ty Moser (MonoLoco_Workshop) how big is it like 3 foot by 3 foot
+Joe basementwoodworking closer to 3.5-foot square.
Great video, Ty! It may have ended up being a little more involved than you thought it was going to be, but you got to use almost every tool in your shop to build it!
+Braxton Wirthlin Thanks Braxton! I didn't think about that, I did use quite a few of my tools.
Awesome space saver, Ty. I haven't got an x-carve since I don't have the room for it but now with your design, I think maybe I have the space. Thanks for sharing, Thumbs up.
You build like I do. My wife calls me The Master of Overkill.
Very cool design. Well done. Really digging the pulleys.
+woodworker 631 Thanks Brian!
Interesting idea and well executed :)
+John Heisz Thanks John! I might need a redesign when I get my new shop built.
Nice solution to a storage problem! Great idea, Ty!
+KSFWG Thanks Dave! I was showing off your sticker to a friend the other day, he thought the RUclips Commenter part was great.
+Ty Moser (MonoLoco_Workshop)
Thanks, Ty! Glad he like it!
Great idea for storing the XCarve ! We've just got themachine in the last couple of days and its now in it's new home in our workshop. Unfortunately , we've had to move things around a bit to get it in but we didn't think we had much option as the other type of wall storage we had seen brought the machine too far away from the wall when it was lowered so we didn't have the space. Your design however seems to eliminate the extra wall depth and is now well worth considering. Not sure we'd be able to sort out the pulley system counterweights as you've got them but maybe we could come up with an alternative . Great idea Ty - well done that man!
Really awesome... Great space saver...And really looks good on the wall...
+Luis Moreira Thanks Luis, I really wanted it to face forward because I knew it would look good. That's how this whole contraption started.
Awesome idea Ty! If you ever do version 2.0 you could add motors to it so it automatically operates. The counterweights is brilliant and that design is a great way to save some space while still keeping the capabilities of the X-Carve in your shop!
+Mike Merzke Thanks Mike! I was actually thinking about that the other day.
Great use of space, maybe i'll get a CNC one day.
+Kaged Creations Thanks for watching!
Whhhat? That's awesome Ty. 140 clips is a ton, great job on condensing.
+April Wilkerson Thanks April. Yea.. it took a while and a LOT of editing to get it down. It made it hard to do the voice over since it was going so fast from shot to shot.
Thats a very cool idea! I wish I had the room for an X-Carve! Great work Ty!
+Josh Millar Thanks Josh! They do take up a lot of room.. hence my project. :)
Nice Job! Looks like a real space saver.
+John Shack Thanks John!
I admire your work! Excellent👍
I dig this man! Definitely a different way to do it!
Thanks! I try to get out of the box. 😜
Really cool design!
I'd build the bench top part, but pivot it on a free standing base on castors (lockable). That way it would not transmit vibration through the building and could be positioned so that you could move around all four sides.... just a thought.
Great idea Ty; I enjoyed your build also. I believe X Carve gave every RUclipsr I watch one of those machines and I keep waiting for mine but it hasn't come. Of course I don't have a woodworking channel. lol Maybe that's why.
God Bless my friend.
+Frank Ingram Thanks Frank! I had to ask them for mine. I've been a slacker and am still fulfilling my agreement videowise..
Brilliant design Ty,
+Warren Downes - One Wood Thanks Warren!
Nice dude! I should probably get something like this for mine.
Really nice!
Old engineering adage... if in doubt, make her stout. Nice design.
+John Conklin Thanks John!
Love your solution. I know what you mean about cutting footage down. Big projects can get messy.
+Stonewall Craftworks Thanks Tom! When I loaded all of the video clips into the editing software and saw that I had over 140 clips I had to take a deep breath while I thought.. well this is going to take a while..
loss of permanent space has always put me off an X Carve. looks like I might be one step closer to convincing myself I need one!
+Livi120 I didn't even think of the space when I got mine.. I quickly decided I needed to come up with a solution when I was moving it back and forth between my workbench and table saw..
Great work bro 👏 👌 ❤️
Awesome!
Sweet idea man!
+Tyler G Thanks Tyler! FYI, I put a link to your video in the bottom of my article. If I were to do this again, I might just go with your style. It doesn't show it off on the wall but it's much more simple.
Ty Moser Nice! Thanks for the shout out.
Haha, that's actually pretty damn cool
My friend
+Ifiok “iobotwoodworks” Obot Thanks!
Totally cool! I've thinking all this time that would be the perfect solution, glad someone finally built it :P goodjob!
+Cactus! workshop Thanks, I really wanted it to be on the wall but wanted it facing forward so I could see it.
yeah! have you considered adding a supporting cable between the top of the structure and the edge of the table? (where the gantry is on the thumbnail) that way the swing will be quite controlled and it kind of supports itself until you set the legs.=)
+Cactus! workshop Not a bad idea. I think I would need put one on each outside front corner so it doesn't interfere with the gantry.
Exactly, that's what I meant, excuse me :D I hope it comes out well if you go for it! cheers
Excellent Porject, genius. thumbs up.
Eme
+You Can DIY by EmeSantosS Thanks and thanks for watching!
Great build., Ty! I had a similar but slightly different idea. Maybe I find the time soon to finish the xcarve and to make it.
+Mighty Wood Can't wait to see what you come up with!

I’d love to see plans for a revise version 2.0 if you get around to it. This would be perfect for me in a small garage when I get a cnc.
Ty! This is awesome man!
+McCauley's Design Thanks Brian!
Hey mate. Great work on the table. I’m planning on doing something similar, but with a winch instead of pulleys. I do have a concern though, have you experienced warping or twisting? Have you needed to resurface your spoilboard?
Nice Ty. I hope to get a cnc in the future.
+Miter Mike's Woodshop Thanks Mike, I hope to put my CNC to more use in the future.
Looks great and should do the trick. Curious - why not just have it fold up against the wall? How much is the combined weight of the counter weights? Scott
+The 2 Car Garage Shop I couldn't think of a design where I could fold it up against the wall and still have it face forward like I wanted. The original combined weight of the counter weights were about 65 lbs, now it's probably closer to 45lbs. I should have added two pulleys to each side so it was pulling the weight straight up instead of in which caused a lot of friction..
so, can you use the x-Carve while it's stored up against the wall? Kinda thought since you have to clamp the wood to the surface and you always have those tabs so pieces don't fall out I don't see why you couldn't. Would probably help with keeping the dust off too...
+Michael Olson I could clamp the pieces to the waste board while on the wall but I don't think the stepper motors are strong enough to move the X-Axis vertically. If I remember right, I would have to add new stepper motors which would also take a larger controller circuit board which would require a larger power supply. At that point I might as well just start from scratch and make my own.
+Ty Moser (MonoLoco_Workshop) or you could try adding the counterweights to the x (or OS it y?) bridge. I'm very curious to see if that works...
Nice design and implementation. Do you REALLY find the X-Carve that useful? I have trouble believing that it would add value to my shop over time. To produce multiples of the same thing - very useful, but that is a rarity for me.
+Mark Hazlewood Before I got it, was imagining all of the stuff I could do with it. Since I've got it, I've really only used it for a few things. I know there's a TON that I could be doing with it, I just haven't really put it to work. That being said, I know some friends that have one and have put them to work quite a bit. My friend +Braxton Wirthlin just engraved a logo onto 20+ drink taster trays he made.
I love it! 140 clips, yeah editing is fun?
+Jack Bench Woodworking Yea.. it took a while to edit. :)
That's awesome! Now do mine! lol Hey by the way, how did you mount the electronics?
+Summers Woodworking I didn't mount them. Instead I disconnected them and added a quick connect plug so I could just re-attach the electronics when needed.
+Ty Moser (MonoLoco_Workshop) Smart thinking!
Hi Ty! I am trying to make a sliding ceiling bed, do you have any plans you could share on how to make this larger in scale?
the design really cool but system counter weight your applied is bad
I agree since I've used this for a few years. What would you have done to improve it?
I'm actually getting ready to take this off the wall because we're building a 5x16' cnc .
Hey Ty where do you go for your lumber? Or any suggestion around Chandler??
+Bigmikeinaz I get most of my stuff at Timber Woodworking. (Southern just west of Stapley.) A while back I created a post on LumberJocks with the local wood suppliers around the Phoenix area. lumberjocks.com/topics/59100
+Ty Moser (MonoLoco_Workshop) thanks Ty this is a big help
I want to have a X Carve but I don't have the money
plans just drawn on a paper napkin... publish your napkin then... heh heh heh.
