- I decided to jump on the eScooter bandwagon, so picked up a good deal on the Xiaomi Mi 1S. In this video I share with you the unboxing, setup and initial thoughts. I have been using this for a few months and its great, I will do a follow up video in the future to share how I am getting on with it.

Good review I got mine in October and noticed the colder it is the less range you get out of it great fun
Thanks. Same with all battery powered devices, they are less efficient in the cold, but like you say still fun.

Nothing more unusual than the standard motor sound.

Hey, i recently got one of these and i can't seem to update the firmware via the xiaomi home app, it stays stuck at 0% have you had similar problems?
Yes there is a problem with the new firmware update. Its been reported so hopefully the fix it. So just continue without the firmware update.
hey! could i remove the bell? if yes, how? (its scratched from a fall and if i ride over road holes it rings and it annoys me
Yes, there is a torx bolt at the front that you can use to remove the bell.
Be aware the bell is also the clip that attaches to the rear when folding up, so you will lose that ability once removed.

Hi spectrum can I ask a question if you don’t mind? Great vid on the xiaomi 1s (gave a sub and like) but how much do you weigh?? I weigh about 113 kg should I still buy it??
Not 100% sure as dont weight myself on the regular, but around 100kg.
They say the weight limit is 100kg, but I think it will probably be ok with an extra 13kg. Obviously will be a performance impact, and need to check on the tyre pressures.

Thanks for a great review, but what concerns me is the "pairing" with the Xioami app. After setup can you use it without linking to the app? How are you liking the Xiaomi Mi 1S ? You have had it for just a month - would you give back and get your money refunded or is she a keeper?
Shes a keeper. Its not mega powerful, but its a nice smooth relaxed ride. No need to use the app each time, I only used the app today (since setup) to check firmware versions for a friend who just got one.
@@SpectrumGeeks Thanks so much for your quick reply. I have the original M365 and fancy upgrading. Never used the original Xiaomi app on the M365 don't like to be tracked by the Chinese. I'm gonna go for it anyway.

@@cheshirecat1595 Well you need to use it to set it up. Outside of that, aside from firmware updates (currently an issue with that as of Jan 2021) you don't really need it.
@@cheshirecat1595 You are already being tracked by your own government. There is no escape from tracking once you go digital. By the way are you a very special person whom the Chinese government would be so keen on tracking?

Only thing that I thought was odd at first was that I had to scoot it before it will engage power. Aside from that its all pretty straight forward. Make sure you have enough room on your phone to install the app and set things up.

BMS error I believe, not sure on how to fix. I suggest contact Xiaomi.

Nope. Full speed is about 16 MPH.
Great vid mate, I've ordered one, are you leaving it stock or unlocking to 30kph?
To be honest I have not yet decided. In stock it does feel like it could do with some more power release, but I am a little concerned about motor heat when unlocked as it is a little thing really.
I need to research it more I guess.
@@SpectrumGeeks That's exactly where I'm at, I left it stock for now and upgraded to 2.2.5 via the mi home app, I think the top speed is ok at 15mph because to be honest it feels like 30mph on these, But i was left a bit underwhelmed by it's performance on incline's, And custom firmware also has an impact on the range, and i don't want to brick it neither lol, If you do decide to play around with it please let me know how it turn's out, all the best.

@@Ayrantime yeah but with the 250w motor it was not great, 17mph full battery 14 mph at about 30% battery, so I got a 350w motor and now it's 21mph full battery and still doing 19mph near the end of battery, much better now. Actually with a tail wind or slightly downhill it hits 24mph on full battery lol.
Can you lock the scooter on the app so the motor doesn't work if someone tried to rob it?
Yes, there is a lock button at the bottom left hand side of the screen in the app.
This stops all features on the escooter from functioning.

How well does it fare in the rain?
I don't use it in the rain due to personal preference. Its IP54 water resistant, so will be ok if you get caught out, but I wouldn't actively use it in the wet personally.

About 16 MPH with the standard firmware.

@@jusspxtternup5003 You can flash it with different firmware to remove the speed restrictions.
This is not something I currently want to do, so no video yet. However, there are other channels / websites with info if you search.

I thought e-scooters were illegal to ride anywhere public and could only be ridden on private land? Has this changed?
This is true, however in the past the rules were not that well enforced, however now its alot more strict, and people are fined and have them confiscated. I have not used mine for many months now.
How do you turn rear light off
The rear light comes on with the front light, and when braking.
You cannot turn off its function as a brake light, so turn off the light function to turn off front and rear light when riding.
@@SpectrumGeeks my rear light is always on and the app is different from yours (probably had a update) got mine yesterday and would like to turn rear light off (solid on) when front mm light is off)

Got a returned one of these today, updated the firmware and suddenly it wouldn't switch on. I'd press the power button and the tail light would flash 6 times and then turn off again.
Did you get it fixed and if so how?
@@SpectrumGeeks never fixed, issue happened same day I got the scooter so I took it back and they couldn't resolve at store so I got a refund

Its a great scooter, just need the UK GOV to allow us to use them.
Does it have a hand brake
It doesn't have a hand brake like a car that you can pull on and leave if thats what you mean, but as you can see in the video there is a brake you can use with your hand like on a bike on the handlebar.

You can, but its not recommended. Its water resistant, not water PROOF.

No there is a valve to inflate.

No idea, you will need to check your local laws on the legalities of using a e-scooter where you live.
Shame on you, at your age you should know better. You do know that riding these things in public places is illegal.
Thanks for sharing your opinion. At the time the video was recorded it was less prevalent for the communication of the legalities of these scooters on the road, and I had passed many police officers whilst on the scooter without issue. However, since then the communication on where they can be used has been better communicated and enforcement of the law has strengthen, and in reviews since I had made this clear.
