The commentary for this match will always be legendary. My personal favorite has to be Lawler when Foley goes through the ceiling of the cell, "That's it he's dead"
i love how somber and serious the tone is, talking about "i Never wouldve approved it, i Never had them ask me about it" ...and then to slip in "here his big ass came..." like that...JR is a fucking LEGEND xD
In my whole lifetime I’ll never forget this match prolly ever. 1 considering I was a young kid and it was my first ever PPV to watch live. And 2 my dad was forced to take me and never understood why I enjoyed wrestling until this match happened and that 1 match turned my dad into a fan and we watched together until his passing. The only minor regret I have is not being able to hear JR and Lawler while being in the crowd that night.
Mick: Okay, so it's settled. I'm landing on the announce table, now to go let JR and King know about the spot. Vince: Don't worry about that. Mick: But I might land on them. Vince: They'll move in time, trust me.
I agree. That spot was just ridiculous. I know wrestling will always have risk but the risk on that far is far too high for me. Makes me uncomfortable to watch.
Right before Undertaker starting climbing up the Cell, Jim Ross said “They pain these men are preparing themselves to endure is inhuman.” And when Taker was almost to the top and started brawling with Mankind, Jim said “there ain’t anything between Undertaker and the floor but imagination.”
The thing that I never understood about it is why that was how they started the match rather than how they ended it. It was the biggest and most dangerous planned spot in the entire match (the chokeslam through the ceiling wasn't part of the plan according to those involved, the cage gave away). Simply get a "Falls Count Anywhere" stipulation added, do the match, skip the chokeslam (that accidentally went into the cage), end with Mankind being thrown off, and then Taker just has to climb down to make the pin. Done. The match ends with a grand finale and Mick can get medical attention pretty quickly without cancelling anything if he gets injured (which he needed).
These two were vets at this point in the WWF..and from what I remember this spot WASN'T supposed to happen taker told mick over and over to NOT get on top of the cage but mick wanted to top the first hell in a cell so honestly it's not on WWF management it's on taker and mick basically deciding "fuck it" in the middle of the match mick wanted to be thrown off and taker asked "you ready?" And the rest is history
Eh, it was a guesstimate. He's and entertainer telling a story. A little exaggerating for comedic effect isn't hurting anyone. People just need to understand that, he's not being 100% serious.

My favorite is the mix of exhaustion and contempt in the way J.R. repeatedly said "thumbtacks."
They wanted to be put out of their misery as much as they wanted it for mick
Just amazing hbk taker was better but this one was historic
"HE LIKES IT!"
@@Mechachu The man is broken in half stop the damn match! And the undertaker likes it!!!
The fact that he and Jerry didn’t even know that spot was gonna happen makes their reaction even better.
GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY, THAT KILLED HIM.
“They killed em.”
The bastards actually killed him

The commentating for that match was sheer excellence.

I remember watching it live & what I saw didn't really register until Mick was through the table & on the floor.

The best part of JR is that he didn't want to know so his reactions are real
Manoeuvering? Who types these captions? 😂😂😂😂

With god as my witness hes broken in half...
J r its a bird its a plan its .... a big ASS coming for me 😂
Jim and Jerry should have been told about this spot after they both witnessed the Owen Hart tragedy….
This was 11 months before the Owen Hart tragedy

Fine, I’ll watch this match again🙄
I believe their agent was Cornette.
He obviously didn’t literally think Mankind was dead.
Isn’t it completely negligent and dangerous for the wwf to NOT tell
him? Considering he’s right below it? Holy shit.
I think Mick bumped on the Spanish commentary table
@@4zafinc he did, but what if he missed? You’d think all staff would know about the really dangerous act about to take place. Crazy .
