Had my BE OD pedal two days and it is finally the sound in my head that I've been after. Nails Led Zep, GNR tones with ease and is just so satisfying to play.
adam872: Hey Adam, both are amazing pedals, only made for different applications. The Friedman is top class and imo the best sounding high gain brown tone going. The JHS AT is made for low-medium gain applications, and is a special one based on its mods to the AC, giving it unbelievable headroom, and to me the best pedal in that class as well. Check out the demo by AT and you'll see its magic.
TRIMPOT inside guys! Gain inside is obviously set too high, if it's still super compressed and squealing with the gain on 9 o clock. But I have a distinct feeling that you didn't know about the wizzardry inside.. ; )
Friedman's a dirty guy. Brown Eye, Pink Taco, Dirty Shirley, Buxom Betty.. You just know he's that guy that hangs out at dive bars making lewd jokes at all the broads that come in. Makes a damn nice amp though.
I think that the Sir-Compre is the first compressor that I've ever heard and just said, "Shut up and take my money." It's compression controls are simple, but the rest of the pedal still gives you control over your tone. I love it.
A ton of people say Lee needs to learn new licks, but really it's kind of good that he plays the same stuff over and over. It makes a control variable in all the products he demos and kind of gives you a good sense of what the pedal sounds like because you know his style so well. Yeah, the licks can become annoying but there is a good side to them too. Plus it is what he enjoys.
The bass can sound a little compressed into a higher gain sound but the tightness knob does allow you to roll off some of the low-end from the pedal so that you can use higher gain setting on the amp to a degree. There is also a gain range trim pot inside the pedal. Setting tight lower will give fatter tones. All the way up= skinnier. I have owned the BE and this pedal is a viable alternative!
this is the best high gain pedal i have ever used... it is very versatile in the sense that it will work with a wider range of amps as it can tame the brightness in pretty much anything. Also being able to control the tightness is great as well. Unlike the EVH OD pedal the BE- OD is not nearly as scooped... it is not as open sounding as lower gain drive pedals however it is very good.
You guys don't make all those flashy hand movements when you play like many British players do. Thank you. Excellent review guys you can really hear the pedals through a great amp played by guitar players. Ordered the BE-OD pedal today but unfortunately not from you!! Thanks again!! P.S. The pickups on that PRS are JUNK!!!
Dave Friedman is a down to Earth man from the planet Tone! His mission is to help us mere mortals have access to some of the best sounds and equipment on our planet. He is accomplishing his mission! These pedals are great!
I love it when you really like something say "grrrreat"" Rob, it's great! Would love to see a video mashup of you in all your greatness from past videos saying great, it would be great.
@Rob Chapman if you can believe it, there is a gain trim pot *inside* of the pedal that can be adjusted for more or less gain. It’s set at 12 O’Clock from the factory. Great modern metal tones can be had if you crank that up. and classic guys love the sound when the internal adjustment is cranked up but the external gain knob is back almost down to zero. Very very versatile pedal
Just treated myself this year with that overdrive and i love it.nice that i now saw your vid wherein you share my opinion and backed up my decision to spend so much vor a pedal 😎
There was a pedal years ago called the "COMPtortion" by Tech 21 that boasted a compressor and distortion in one. Not sure how they compare, but I played one and it has a feel and tone all its own.
Pedals are great, if the signal is perfect. I think you should make a video of cables and why we should go after a perfect signal flow. A drive pedal can sound so different just by using a great cable.
The Duchess is a magnificent amplifier, just have to say. Both Victory amps I have played (Sheriff 22 and the Duchess) are superior products. I have played the Brown Eye and the Dirty Shirley both and they are fantastic sounding amps, though very expensive. They deliver what cranked Marshalls used to. Looking forward to the shirley pedal as well.
Mad professor 1 is way better than any wampler or other brown sounding pedal out there, plus a price on a secondary market makes it really a piece of cake
In every demo I've heard, the Friedman pedals sound good. I'm a bit more interested in the Sir Compre because of the style of music I play, but I can see why the BE OD is so popular (already). I thought I heard that Friedman is going to release a lower gain overdrive in the near future.
The first I’ve watched of you guys that I think the captain held his on lol! Great playing by both you gentlemen! I have the be-od pedal! I use it through my katana 100 artist, clean setting! I’ve got so many positive comments from my musician friends at shows!
BE-OD sounds much better in my opinion if you lower the gain trim pot inside a bit. Still enough of gain on tap but makes the gain knob feel like it has more range to me.
***** I understand, but I'm not hearing any variation in the gain when turned up or down, as with the drive channel on BE amps. Phil X demonstrates the gain stages on the high gain channel in his Demo of the BE-100. That isn't audible on this pedal, which could be a dealbreaker for some guitarists - certainly is for me at this price.
The Sir Compre kind of reminds me of an MXR GT OD. That's a drive that compresses quite a lot, to my ear. And both pedals seem to deal in that, open-sounding, more bassy/loose kind of drive sound, if that makes sense. Anyway, sounds cool to me!
Awesome tones and very comparable to the new MXR EVH 5150 gain pedal. I went with the MXR because of the built in noise gate. Can't go wrong with either.
Al M well said I have have Evh 5150 mxr pedal also and it so versatile at lower gain all the way to full out shred , andertons did a video but did not show half the potential of the mxr be good to see compared to the Friedman pedal
vkelly1975 I agree 100%. Phillip McKnight did a head to head comparison of both pedals which is what I based my purchase on. His RUclips vid was really helpful. Have a great day.
if i ever visit England, Anderton's will be the first place I'll go.
It's just a shop and pretty poor in my visits there
I like the videos though
The first place you visit will be the airport. HTH.
not if he teleports
One sad thing to hear
well I guess having a BE OD is better than having BO and ED.
best comment on this page.
I didn’t get it
3 years and I pissed myself reading this comment. Well done😂
😂😂😂
7 years on still got a laugh from me
Bought the BE-OD today. Running that with my ac-15 with a clean tone.....my GAWWWWWD. This pedal is amazing.
Had my BE OD pedal two days and it is finally the sound in my head that I've been after. Nails Led Zep, GNR tones with ease and is just so satisfying to play.
maxthomas78 how about the dirty shirley? Can it nail it too?
@@gessi1332 yes , check out jay Parmar videos on RUclips
@@Havanacuba1985 jay parmar... Hahaha
That BE OD pedal sounds absolutely rad, like a cranked Marshall.

Sorry that was @Ryan
Love the JHS pedals, especially the Angry Charlie and AT models.

I bet he had another name thought up for the Runt, but someone stopped him and switched a letter at the last minute.
The deep threat wah pedal always make me chuckle :)
Way huge electronics is pretty bad too with their Fuzzy Pickles and whatnot
More like Freudman
Man the Captain's chops are way better than past videos! Rock on Cap!
Jesus, that probably the best i've seen Lee play... can tell he really felt it
I think that the Sir-Compre is the first compressor that I've ever heard and just said, "Shut up and take my money." It's compression controls are simple, but the rest of the pedal still gives you control over your tone. I love it.
Lee's playing and tone are outstanding in the outro! Nice work Captain
Captain, your improv was incredible in this video! Those licks are killer man.
bought the be-od deluxe this month - its absolutely incredible.
Plus it is what he enjoys.
wow Lee your playing has gone up quite a few notches. Well done, great playing
That is how to wake up in the morning! That lick that Lee plays at 4:43 is so Captain Lee. It is his signature lick!
Stayed up all night for a Video cheers from America rob keep doing what you do man love your work
Why dont you put the pedal through a budget amp to show what it can do??
Just FYI, I believe the BE-OD has an internal gain trim pot to dial back some of the gain if you want. I've heard it comes maxed out from the factory.
BigMateo24 it does.
A long long time follower and this is the first demo ever where Captain Lee absolutely dominated his parts, Nailed it!!
Holy mother that Drive pedal sounds good.
You were certainly on your game on this one Lee!.... Killing it!
this is the best high gain pedal i have ever used... it is very versatile in the sense that it will work with a wider range of amps as it can tame the brightness in pretty much anything. Also being able to control the tightness is great as well. Unlike the EVH OD pedal the BE- OD is not nearly as scooped... it is not as open sounding as lower gain drive pedals however it is very good.
Please, do a BE OD pedal vs BE100 (2016 specs if possible), that would BE super awesome.
Bogner Harlow is also a comp with gain combined
And Pigtronix Philosophers Tone
And Visual Sound Rt. 66
And Tech 21 Boost Comp
I thought he said "Well done Friedman, you've won the gain."
Great job gentlemen. Phil X loves Friedman for good reason.
Steven Stevens as well
You guys don't make all those flashy hand movements when you play like many British players do. Thank you. 10:55 Tele and Sir-Compre... spot on!
Wow, awesome jam at the end by both you guys.
2:30 AM in the U.S. what better thing to watch
First there was the buck stop. Now we got Brown Eye goodness... I see the stand-up comedy act is getting better every video! Keep it up Lee!
@Rob Chapman if you can believe it, there is a gain trim pot *inside* of the pedal that can be adjusted for more or less gain. It’s set at 12 O’Clock from the factory. Great riffing from the captain !
The feedback is really musical, especially for a pedal!
Bravo to the Captain. Sounding good, Captain.
Word on the mean streets of Bend, Oregon, is that these are quite good.
The Sir Compre should have been called Sir Compress a Lot.
im not gonna lie, thats the best i've ever heard Lee's tone.
You can always count on Lee to play the same mini-solo every video...
good reerence
Good spelling ^
do do do do do do.. doooo do do do
Wad rfu talkng abood??
MikeGaming thing is I know exactly how that sounds 😂
Just treated myself this year with that overdrive and i love it.nice that i now saw your vid wherein you share my opinion and backed up my decision to spend so much vor a pedal 😎
Pigtronix Philosophers Tone is a compressor with gain built in. Awesome pedal.
There was a pedal years ago called the "COMPtortion" by Tech 21 that boasted a compressor and distortion in one. Not sure how they compare, but I played one and it has a feel and tone all its own.
Oh, and by he way, great job with your videos. I enjoy them very much.
The Captain got down on this demo...
That first tone from The Captain at around 4minutes in is just glorious. You could have stopped the video there and called it a day.
Pedals are great, if the signal is perfect.
I think you should make a video of cables and why we should go after a perfect signal flow. A drive pedal can sound so different just by using a great cable.
You should watch "That Pedal Show".
two amazing black box power houses.. DIG IT!!
I like the amps and this overdrive pedal seems to capture much of the magic if you require your filth on tap.
I picked up the BE-OD a couple days ago. Wow. It sounds better than the gain channel on my PRS head.
**That G chord captain hits at 4:16 sold me.
Wow, that BE OD sounds amazing.
Rob, what a haircut! Really nice👌🏼🤘🏼
Looking forward to the shirley pedal as well.
yes!!! i was hoping you would demo these pedals
The key to getting all the fuzz outa the BE is the internal trim pot. Back it way off and its more controllable.
Isn't there a dial inside the be OD to adjust the amount of gain?
14:25 WHHHYYY???!!!!! It has been years!!!!!!
The Game. Oops it happened again.
The10000lbGorilla I WAS SO MAD
damnit
i literally exclaimed SON OF A BITCH!
Jake Adelman Fuck, you commenting on this gave me a notification so I had to remember it again!
the FRIEDMAN BE OD IS THE BEST DIST. PEDAL EVER, WORKS KILLER WITH STRATS OR LES PAULS
Arguably the best drive sounds since Captain plugged into the Plimsoul.
be od sounds sweet!! angry charlie,be od and purple plexi shout out?
great job guys!
Wampler pinnacle!!
Purple Plexi rules!
Mad professor 1 is way better than any wampler or other brown sounding pedal out there, plus a price on a secondary market makes it really a piece of cake
I've both of them but they're on a different level. the BE-OD is way much better and the MP-1 on the list for ebay.
Great sounding stuff here!
I loved these pedals since I saw them! So nice to see an Andertons review on these 😁
In every demo I've heard, the Friedman pedals sound good. I'm a bit more interested in the Sir Compre because of the style of music I play, but I can see why the BE OD is so popular (already). I thought I heard that Friedman is going to release a lower gain overdrive in the near future.
You can lower the amount of overdrive on this pedal.
The star of the show is that PRS. Love the charcoal burst!
The first I’ve watched of you guys that I think the captain held his on lol! Great playing by both you gentlemen! I have the be-od pedal! I use it through my katana 100 artist, clean setting! I’ve got so many positive comments from my musician friends at shows!
I’ll admit it, I’m a HUGE Friedman fan boy. Love m6 Runt 20 and Pink Taco heads
You guys are amazing
hells teeth....!!!! #amp in a box..!!!
bloomin' awesome sounds out of both those pedals.
The Tele sounds just great through the BE !
added to the wishlist
finally a new video!
-Friedman is like Marshall for hipsters.-
why is this crossed out and how
Hank Hill there you are!
Hank Hill hank pls
Alex pls
*MY* ways -are- *that of* -a- *-SECRET-* I WILL *-NEVER-* *TELL.*
It's the QVC guitar channel!
I swaer, Capt Lee's tone sounded like f'n Slash during the outro jam!!!
There is a trimpot where you can tame the gain.
Holly shit!!!! This pedals sounds awesome \m/
BE-OD sounds much better in my opinion if you lower the gain trim pot inside a bit. Still enough of gain on tap but makes the gain knob feel like it has more range to me.
Just brought one today. WOW..The BEsT..
I am proud to see the Capitan to progress on his guitar playing the last 3 years since I started watching this show.
this video totally confirms that the V40 is the ultimate pedal amp.
Is Rob like the British version of Tony the Tiger (think Frosties ads)? :D "Sounds grrrrrrrrrrreat!.." x)
You do know we have Frosties on our small island, right? lol.
That. sounds. Amazing!!!!!!!
Brown-eye huh! I know Chappers was holding back from laughing hysterically. Great demos as always!
Capt. is going to twiddle his knob... lol
Also inside the BE-OD pedal, there is a trim pot to lower the gain setting.
Great close out jam though!!! rock on........
beautifull comp!
The BE gain doesn't change much - would love to hear it at lower gains with boosted volume, but there's very little variation.
Friedman BE amps aren't meant to be that high gain on every setting. 5150, yes.
***** I understand, but I'm not hearing any variation in the gain when turned up or down, as with the drive channel on BE amps. Phil X demonstrates the gain stages on the high gain channel in his Demo of the BE-100. That isn't audible on this pedal, which could be a dealbreaker for some guitarists - certainly is for me at this price.
the Gibson is perfect match for it 💕
Nice PRS Rob! :)
The BE's Treble control is really a high mid control. The Presence control is the Treble control. Why do they cost 35 pounds more over there?
The Sir Compre kind of reminds me of an MXR GT OD. That's a drive that compresses quite a lot, to my ear. And both pedals seem to deal in that, open-sounding, more bassy/loose kind of drive sound, if that makes sense. Anyway, sounds cool to me!
Me after work: "Will I go to bed or play some guitar..."
*throws on a chappers/andertons video*
Guitar it is!
Brown eyed goodness💥
Love ya Chappers! and Captain!
Love my Friedman Pink Taco 🌮
Nice pedals and great video
