- I felt like I needed to rough it for a while, and camping and fishing from my boat is something I've wanted to do since buying it. So i grabbed the oppertunity while the temps were low and but so was the wind. This is a video about travelling to the highlands of Scotland in winter and spending 2 days afloat in the scottish winter. I fished with lures for pollack and bait for anything that would bite
Hope you enjoy the video as much as I did making it!
Tight lines,
Nathan

A hot brick for your feet , it's a must for those cold nights Nathan.
Another great video .
Keep them coming.👍
Class!
Camping on the boat, love this content, really enjoyed that
Awesome, thank you!
Newcastle haven't won a lot recently so that dates your trip perfectly! I was at the Citeh game which was great, but we lost. Great video and great to see Scotland looking so fantastic!
Cracking video Nathan, really enjoyed that one, appreciate the effort that you put into these. Scenery was amazing!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the comment Roger
That looked like a really cozy way to spend a "summer/autumn " night 🌙 I always like the sound of lapping water when I'm drifting off use to love overnight sessions by the golf course right on the path between there n the beach. Gentle rollers help you drift off.
Stunning vid Nathan, looked a beautiful location and lets face it the cold has never put you off.
Too true Geoff, I prefer the cold to heat. Glad you liked the video👍🎣
Nice one Nathan. Beautiful scenery there and some fish too. Loaves the boat trips 😊😊😊
Cheers Dave!!
Fantastic buddy 👍 What a stunning place with scenery equal to anywhere on the planet. Green with envy here but enjoyed watching you do what you love, it must have been brilliant for the mind and soul 👍👍👍
PS Newcastle played brilliant for 45 minutes 😉
One of my favourite parts of the country, lovely place
It's fast becoming one of mine too. Just stunning
Yet another quality video Nat. Envious of your ability to head off on these adventures. Look forward to whatever comes next.
Thanks Ray, I appreciate your comment
Great 👍 stuff mate I enjoyed watching so I can only imagine how much fun that was it’s only going to get warmer from now onwards 😊
Thanks Chris, glad you liked it.
Cracking video mate! 🎣
Thanks 👍
What unbelievable scenery Nathan, can’t beat Scotland when it’s like that. Bit of a shame the fishing didn’t match up with it, but you obviously enjoyed it 💪🐟🎣
I go to lochaline 5 times a year the fishing is amazing 😊
Amazing adventure , we do the same here in Cornwall but well kitted out in a van and kayaks, etc . Money can't buy the fun me and my son have always had . Currently learning about boats for this summer we will have one . Not looking forward to the first launch etc 😂. Great video and tight lines
Brilliant video mate and ya keen a f for doing it in that cold 🎣 🐟
I'm a bit weird like that, I love the extra challenge of cold conditions. Tight lines👍🎣
Brilliant as always dude 👊🏼🎣
Thanks Dids, good to have you back dude 👊🎣
I watch all the videos still dude just on different device's I'm properly buzzing for with how successful you've got with the channel looking forward to seeing more boat videos get yourself down the fylde coast in a few months for the tope run !!
What a way to capture the beauty of Scotland!
A photo and videographer’s paradise. When you get those calm, tranquil moments afloat it really is hard to eclipse.
Amazed there were not many pollack, that drift past the lighthouse had to be the fishiest looking spot out there, but sadly that’s where the similarities to Norway end.
Tight lines for the coming year.
Cheers
Aye, I couldn't understand it either, and the first spot I tried that morning. I wonder if it's because I spend less time trying marks from the boat, compared to fishing from the shore. It's much easier to move on in the boat.
Tight lines mate👍🎣
Excellent vid Nathan... I fish out that neck of the woods... A wee tip mate .. heaver leads...sorted..and its better in the summer..and if u sleep on the boat then u don't have to worry about the west Highland vampires...aka the dreaded Midge...aw the best mate...🎣🎣🎣🎶
Loving your boat-trips. Good to see you in your element.
Scotland is just as stunning from the water as from the land - so beautiful. Esp in the sunshine.
Look forward to more of the same. One day you'll be doing 7 rods solo like Graeme Pullen!
I've spent loads of time in scotland over the years, up mountains, around the fells and coast but not much. afloat. I'm loving the change in perspective.
7 rods looks like total carnage, think I'll have to work up slowly to GP's levels. Tight lines LV👍🎣
Great video Nathan, really enjoyed that 👍 More camping videos please if you get the chance 😉
Glad you liked it Gary. Really enjoyed this so going to have to make the time to do more (like it's a chore 😂)
Nathan that’s got to be your best video yet .. bloody brilliant that mate .. you managed to film everything from start to finish .. you caught a few nice fish but more importantly you had a great little adventure , I’ve spent the night on my pals boat out from amble under the stars , coffee and sausage sarnie in the morning etc .. 10/10 that mate 👌🏻 cheers for a class vid .. I hope some tv production company notices you doing these and offers you fishing series contract ..
Thanks Mark, that means a lot to me. Tight lines mate👍🎣
great watch Nathan. Lovely part of the world up there. Will be spending a night at Lochaline in a month when up there diving. Some mega deep water up there, they catch skate off the pier at Lochaline...... but as you know can be a bit nippy :)
Props to you Richard, diving is the the only sport that scares me. Too much reliance on equipment. Hope you have a good trip!
That was like watching one of those Japanese game shows where they subject the contestants to unpleasant things 😂 Hats off to you mate I really couldn’t be arshed to go through all that. Keep up subjecting yourself to tortures for our entertainment 👍🏻 Looking forward to the next one.
Great couple of days that , be absolutely tremendous to do in the summer when its a bit warmer 😂
Well, what can I say, I watch a lot of RUclips content (all of yours) and just when you think you have seen it all you come out with this, absolute gold mate. You have went the extra mile, really enjoyed that from my warm living room 😂
Thanks Alan, glad you enjoyed it.
Really enjoyed this one, got a real sense of what it felt like, and of the places you went. Was a bit worried about your drive home though, on the boat like that is more tiring than you think. I find I have to force myself to eat more during the day.
Yeah, you're right about towing, it seems to take a load more concentration. Luckily I'd had plenty of sleep on the boat and a can of Monster handy. Tight lines👍🎣
Great video really enjoyable I try and watch all your videos, tight lines from Kevin North Wales.
Quality video as usual Nathan I feel your pain with the backlash off the drone blades ha ha I cringed when you said it as its painful lol
Super video thanks for sharing your latest adventure…….not sure about the wild camping. Jeeezz that looked cold!
My pleasure. It's not too bad with the right clothing and equipment
Eazy Nathan you ok pal, thanks for the vid. Well done sleeping in ya boat in those temperatures lol. All the best from GRIMSBY
Glad you enjoyed it Carl👍🎣
well done mate that was a great watch that , nathan your used to being out of your comfort zone chap . but some sort of heater would be nice . take care mate and stay safe
Thanks Tony glad you liked it. I've used that sleep system in -27 so knew I'd be warm enough but I had my gas stove if the shit hit the fan. It's amazing how much heat that little thing produces. Tight lines👍🎣
I can't wait for the day when one of them mackerel baits hooks a 150lb skate 😂. Fantastic video. Now you've got a boat, this summers going to be the best of your life 🎣🎣
Me too, I've been dreaming about that moment for months now😆
Amazing amazing amazing love what you are doing j
Thank you😄
Superb adventure
👍🎣
Looking forward when you have the time to go up to big skate country.
Atb.
Me too! I'm sure I've dreamt about landing a barn door
Brilliant m8, I know what you mean by getting away for some alone time 👍
Good effort that lad. Bet it will be nice up there in summer for a few days at a time on the boat!
Yeah, i bet it will too. Looking forward to some longer trips
Should get a portable diesel heater of the boat and pipe in the warm air to the cuddy they aren't expensive now either. Should also look at the Yeti mugs 👌 for keeping your brew warm for hours as well
Thanks mate, appreciate the suggestions
Beautiful up there when the suns out. Been quiet from the rocks in SW Scotland, seems to be all up the west coast. Great video from the drone, had a few cut fingers myself, sure they sharpen the props!
If only it shone more often! I hear the fishing can be tough in the SW during the winter, hope it picks up for you. 👍🎣
Nice to meet you in the supermarket car park, made our day👍🏼
@peteburnett1108 it was great to meet you and Jill. It's always nice to meet long term subscribers. I'll no doubt bump into you again👍🎣
Cracking video again m8 .. Think you should of kept those socks from ya giveaway lol😅
Haha, I've still got a pair, thankfully👍🎣
Get yourself a Chinese diesel heater in the cuddy, a wee tad of heat when it’s required is a life saver.
I'll have a look at them, cheers👍
@@SlippyLimpets I'm not sure how big your battery is but if you buy a second battery of around 80-100amp it should last you a few days, certainly enough to run a diesel heater off!
@SlippyLimpets just make sure it's installed correctly and the exhaust fumes can't blow back in on you mate
@@Andy-hr2ui 😆🤣
Nathan I'd love to see you catch a double figure cod as well over due mate tight lines bud .
I've had a couple, 1 from the shore and 1 from the yak, but both pre youtube. I'd take another though 😆👍🎣
Eyup Nathan. So a brief summary of events then; Land of the cotter course plotter, deck potter (tiny totter), rope knotter, cove squatter, condensation blotter, coffee hotter, Otter spotter. If there'd been midges you'd have had a full house there. I don't know how you do it, I really don't. I'll sithi after! Dave
Alreet Dave, You're back on form! Guessing you've finished the skirts😂👍🎣
Fair play to you mate, that looked baltic but well worth the experience. We plan on an overnight on our boat this summer. That looked like a stunning place.
Those drone blades are like scalpels, the joys of having to catch them in the boat 😂
One thing to think about is using your axillary outboard to reset your drifts. That litre it holds will do a fair bit, save your main fuel, and also gives it a good run.
Top advice especially in the cold
Cracking idea Martin, I don't think I've even started it on the boat, keeps the hours off my main motor too. Tight lines👍🎣
I was the same. Had the auxiliary hanging off the back and got told off by the guy servicing it for not using it.
I just drop it in the water, tighten it all up so it holds its revs and heading, and use the main as a rudder.
Hope you've thawed out after that session mate 🤣
Hi John, love your video, last summer I fished at Moelfre I was ashamed at the amount of rubbish anglers had left glass bottles, plastic bottles buttie wrappers etc. These morons will get good marks closed off!!
Love your commitment 👍
Thank you
Nice video well put together but looks very chilly, was just wondering if you have a bilge alarm if your sleeping aboard and the worst should happen just a thought happy boating
Where did you launch pal, you're across the country from me as I'm on the Moray Firth. Looks like a nice quiet slipway which is what I'm looking for on a trip over West. Good on ya sleeping overnight lad, that wouldnt be me. Too old for that carry on.😃👍🏴
Hi Nathan, you do like a adventure don’t you. I’ve spent a few nights onboard boats but not as cold as you did on this trip , weather you catch or not it must of been a great experience in a place like that, well done sir. As a long time boat owner I would check out why that pump kept switching on so much, was it a stuck float switch ? If it was pumping water then you could have a leak, usually from a badly installed piece of equipment like your transducer or possibly from around the engine bolts going through the transom, hope you get it sorted and stay safe 👍
By God lad, give you your due you're up for trying anything aren't you? couple of hopefully helpful observations. Even ships would try not to anchor in 100m of water by choice, this is because the anchor is designed to grip with a horizontal force, the more vertical the less chance the anchor will hold, in fact in mud or sand this is a way of breaking them out the ground. Secondly if you're going out again in sub zero and it isn't going to rain smear both sides of windows with neat washing up liquid before they freeze, stops them freezing unless it's really cold. Lastly as you're fishing on your own mainly, do you really need that passenger seat??, leaving it at home would free up loads of space. In fact with the tarp up you might even be able to pitch a tent underneath and be more comfortable. Wish I could sleep without needing a pee every few hours. Oh yes, don't forget to give your standby motor a good run every time out, motors do not take kindly to not being used.
Have you tried using a drogue from the stern when your anchored up ? it will not stop you swaying completely but it will slow you down going from side to side, years ago I used a short piece of chain to a large tyre to do the same thing, other than that its removable boards or anchoring from bow and stern, all a pain to be doing, its all about if you can put up with the side to side motion,
A drogue has been suggested but i was worried about getting lines tangled in it. Think I'm just going to stick more rod holders on the boat and keep moving them around. Thanks for the comment👍🎣
Hi Nathan, you picked the right weather slot 🙂 I live in the N of Scotland just outside Nairn, what harbour were you at ??
Is that the old Abu garcia millionaire tournament reel.? Looks like it with the gold trim, I got one in 1993 and I still use it to this day.
Bonnie Scotland 🏴
Another quality session Nathan , What is the place you launched your boat from called ?
Thanks Jim, it's called the Puffin Dive Centre
when you anchored up at the start of your video if you had traveled West a couple of miles you would have been near the entrance of two very sheltered sea lochs,( I live on the shore of one of them) you would not have then needed to motor all the way up to Lochaline for the night. Nice video, what make of boat is that, please? S
I think I looked at those two lochs, comments on Navionics said the nav at low was tricky. Also didn't know if they'd fish with being so shallow. Took the safe bet and headed to Aline. I'll know for next time though. Thank you. The boat is a Piscator 580. Tight lines👍🎣
Looks a stunning place but a tad cold better luck next time 1:22 1:24 15:25
Mightve picked me up on way by slipps 😂
But then you wouldn't be the Lone Fisherman😂
Why I'm the lone fisherman 😢 nobody wants to play with me 😂😂😂 .. wasn't up for sharing the sleeping bag anyway 😂😂😂 ..
Lochallan has a great bunk house and social club ,whare did you launch your boat from?
Good to know, thanks. I launched at the Puffin Dive centre in Oban.
Nice one! What car are you towing with?
Thanks. It's a Seat Leon Xperience
So will you be inviting The Fishlocker on your boat for a session?
The invite has been sent
Thinking of moving to Scotland in a couple years retiring, just wondered what the rules were in Scotland are you allowed to go pretty much anywhere and fish?
At sea yes (unless a restricted area such as a firing range) ashore inland no, you need some form of permit/licence for most fresh water fish, but you are free to fish off the shore for sea fish, hope this answers your question
Loch Ah Leen
Invernaewhere
Hi Nathen , where about is that in scotland
It's around the Isle of Mull, on the west coast
Thanks very much
Hi, what a boat ? Warrior ?
Hi, it's a Piscator 580, a fair bit cheaper and bigger than a warrior
No fish for supper?
Hardy pups u north east men
Oban?
Yep
Fog on the Sound of Mull is a rare sight, do you watch Corkwing (Doug K)? He has loads of great fish camp videos, boat and kayaking around the Morvern peninsula.
Do us a favor and wash your boat and change those rusty spot lights and get a light bar
Plenty to do on the boat before i replace something that's working.
@@SlippyLimpets it's the rust stains
@@gingertom45 ah. I get you👍
Loch a lein is how you pronounce it. Been up there many a time, local pronunciation is a nightmare
Or is it loch allen? My memory is going 🙄🤪
lets just say it's called That Loch 😂
Enjoyed the video fish there sometimes myself its a long haul from yorkshire but can be worth it usually come up April / may time for the pollack & skate fishing tight lines Alain
It's a wonderful area to visit, makes the tow worthwhile. Tight lines
Nathan, what is your boat and engine setup, good vid I'm familiar with the area.
Hi John, Piscator 580 with Mercury Four-stroke 100hp
