    Great video John. It's funny that when we're fishing for halibut here of the Southern Oregon coast, skate are a nuisance tending to be a couple of skate to every halibut. The skate run in the triple figures and you can tell when you have one instead of a halibut, as apart from the initial fight, they're like pulling up a wheelbarrow from 300'. Halibut tend to fight all the way up, even though they're mostly half the size of the skate. Looking forward to the rest of the Scottish videos.

I so enjoy reading all the reactions and comments and how you and your family positively effect peoples well being around the world that when i saw comments had been deactivated i promised myself i would add a comment if they were ever reactivated.
    so here goes;
    Firstly those scottish skate! what fantastic creatures, I agree almost alien like. The respect you give them is admirable and so appreciated by all of us.
    Secondly, I'm sure by now you must know how much we all love watching you haul your pots, still get overwhelmed by a spectacular Falmouth sunrise or a pod of dolphins or Tuna paying a visit, an occasional John Dory or those magnificent bars of silver you find so well.
    Thirdly, whether it is a scallop, lobster, crab , squid, octopus, shark, tuna, conger, ling or even those pesky doggies, the respect you show them all is inspirational to us all.

    We used to fish for skate off the island of Wiay, on the east coast of Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides. There are monsters out there as nobody really fishes for them.

    I used to work on the trawlers out of Skye during the early '90's and those skate would slow a boat down more effectively than a drogue if the got caught in a net. -3 is a doddle. Inland Aberdeenshire had -10 for a couple of days last week and a few years back we got down to -24.
    Great video. I hope you enjoyed your Scottish expedition.
