Thank you!! I am looking to build my own off-grid toilet and I have watched a lot of videos!! Yours is the BEST toilet video I have seen!! I appreciate that you did the film as an easy to follow step by step process. You are quite a craftsman. The job was professional from start to finish. I'm impressed!
These are AWESOME! I built one for going to the desert and it was the only reason my former partner would...'go'. Two things to think about. First is the liquid container. I used a large old liquid clothes washing liquid bottle. They have a little clear stripe up one side to so you can see how full it is. But it's mostly opaque so nobody really knows what's in it. Why this is important is that you can easily carry it into a public toilet, etc., and nobody will look at you. Then you just pour it down the toilet and flush. Easy peasy, nobody gets queasy ;-) Second thing to think about is a very small 12v computer fan. I had my toilet in an off-road trailer and it was more or less rigidly fixed. I put a 50mm pvc vent tube from the box through the roof of the trailer (with a rain cover, of course) and added a small computer fan in it. None of the 50mm tubing was glued, just press fit so it was easy to remove if necessary. That way it drew air out of the box, up the vent, and out the trailer. That made the box extremely dry, no smells AT ALL and it worked a treat even when it was very humid. Then you can just toss the green bag in any skip or rubbish bin as it's literally just compost. Well done! Your backside will thank you ;- Ps. Saw dust works fine, especially as you have lots of it. But for those who don't have it, you can get coconut husk bricks at any pet supply store. It's used for gerbil cages, etc. It works even better, is cheap, and the bricks are very compact for storage until you break one up for used.
Thank you for this. I recently finished a camper and had a normal toilet but the septic system is a nightmare and keeps having issues. Then, right as I needed it... HABU! Habu to the rescue and friendly knowledge people to spread the wealth of information. This is a decent weekend project to use all of my scraps and stuff I have at home. I'll probably use Kydex for the urinal or just make a separate standing urinal tube out of PVC with a wide adapter and a cap. I've seen those work really well.
@@DanteYewToob I did make a standing urinal tube (just a tube with a funnel and cap zip tied to the wall) in my toilet area along with the toilet that went into a small container under the trailer with a dump valve below it. Most of the time it just dumped out below the trailer but if you needed to spend any time in, say, a car park, it was nice to able to use it and then just turn the valve to dump it when in the dirt. Especially for off-road use, it was nice to be able to get up in the middle of the night and return a beer or two back to whence it came without having to go outside AND you didn't fill up the liquid container in the toilet box. You do really need the urine diverter in the toilet, most especially for any ladies who use it but the tube is great if you don't want to go outside because of weather, night, laziness, or mosquitos!
Thanks Henry, I did some research for weeks and your advice is great! Many things that I have learned you mention in your "These are AWESOME!..."-text! #EWTPWGYE -greetings from Theo "SurvivalTrotter" Brouwers, Trendwatcher on many subjects www.survivaltrotter.com Pesonal website, watch on laptop/pc.
Nice build & Nice workshop too :D Quick tip re pocket-holes, ideally they should always be fastened from inside to the outside (you have several outside/in) and up from under. Not only aesthetically pleasing but results in stronger builds.
There's always someone who is gonna tell you how to do it better, or you did it wrong. But in my opinion it's a beautiful job and I'd be proud to take a dump in it:-)
Material for urine separator: Veralite 200: is an extruded transparent plastic sheet based upon PETG (Glycol modified Polyethylene Terephthalate). PETG has the advantage of not crystallizing when heating. This makes it easily processable. Veralite 200 is the best choice for complex processing and detailed thermoforming
The only thing I’d add to this build which is spectacular is a 12v fan. Something to pull air from the box and out of the camper. Unless your emptying the bag a lot.
Using composting toilet for many years now here are some advices : put a one way valve (there is special valve for this specific use) on your pee tank (pee ferment and stinks really quickly) and use your harvested pee to water your plant (1pee volume for 9 water volume, every 20 days per 1 square meter of soil) Mix plane shavings and saw dust to increase exchange surface area (it will help drying and absorbing at the same time)
Urine turns to ammonia after 24 hours (so says the internet, which is never wrong haha). Hence the smell. Also, once you have urine/ammonia it will kill plants and weeds.
@@greghoughton5993 yeah it could kill plants if you only water them with it. But watering them with diluted solution of urine and water (10% of urine 90% of water) not less than every 20 days, and respecting a watering surface of 10 liter of mix per square meter you will actually fertilize your soil and plants. Think about it, every wild animal pee in the nature and the planet is not a big desert created by every earthling's pee...
A Thrown 🤨 of distinction. Thank you so much for sharing then hole 😉 process. First time viewer ... have to say, the sleeves are as amazing as your ingenuity and workmanship. 👏🏽🖖🏽👏🏽🥰🇨🇦🚌
Spectacular! I have seen thousands of videos of people building components for vans and they want to sell the info and do the builds for a price. you are the man, I am a hard man to impress, you have my total respect. where and what is the wrap around the inside hole cut and what is the urine diverter material. thank you so much
Thank you for your videos, this Toilet has been very good, you are already beginning to do what is necessary for your caravan, an interesting fabrication, a greeting from Venezuela, friend. (Translated with the help of google)
Hi Hassan, Covid forced me to migrate from my loved city to my countryside. I was wondering how to start my home at my village with limited fund. And though it was not easy for me start over there, I dared. Your idea of this wonderful dry toilet saved me. Thanks a lot. But I would like to add a fan over the poop bin.
Awesome collection of tools. One think I would avoid is wood, especially waterproof plywood I believe You used for both camper and porta. Thing must be very heavy?
Looking to convert a van. Can your composting toilet be purchased? I would make a suggestion of waterproofing the inside of the bin for easy fast cleaning with no organic matter residue.
We are building a new house, also built a garden house to help oversee the project. It grew arms and legs and became a bar, hot tub etc... We are using bio-degradable bags in the compose toilet. 3 to 6 months and they are gone. Just a tip.
I got to say that's not only humanure for me Since I started doing it, my physical, mental and spiritual health inproved a lot. I recovered from a very hard and difficult to cure disease. Because of this, I could start doing in my life and invent many new things that I could not before due to poor health and poor general condition. Beacause of this, I was able to start working a lot physically and intellectually. I also feel better spritually- happier and freer to do good things and generally as me and I can also give this happiness to others. The very sad thing is that people do not want to see that the changes that have taken place are the results of working towards humanure.

The first time I saw your video looked like the old stereo cabinets I laughed needless to say this is a serious subject a nice video thanks. Well done. Without a doubt one of the best after watching I'm glad u didn't put one of the stupid auger things in the design there really useless thanks.
@@thomascarlsson7325 I know you guys are just being humorous but they really do work great. Even after a serious vindaloo curry night ;-) Keeping the liquid out of solids makes it smell free when covered with sawdust, coconut husk, etc. Having a small computer fan drawing air through the box and outside makes it even better. I would never, ever go back to a cassette or portable toilet again. Dealing with a full portapotty is awful. Dealing with a dry bag of compost you toss in any rubbish bin and a sealed bottle of urine you just empty and put back is dead simple. Really!
Composting toilets need to seal in odor. This can easily be done with your design by having a removalble lid that sits onto the crap container with a rubber seal. Before and after usage the user temporarily sets the lid aside. A more elegant design would have a sealing lid on top.
Good video with honest intention. But if someone makes this, the material should be half grade down for the purpose of DIY. Wish your professional workmanship will not discourage average DIYs. Awesome video and ideas.
You can use regular toilet paper but I still recommend RV or septic tank paper because it biodegrades faster. Just drop it in after use like normal and then cover it all with a small handful of sawdust, coconut husk, or whatever you are using. It all turns into compost because there is no liquid.
Fantastic video. No crappy music. No bs. Great workman ship. Wish there were more people doing these videos like yours. Awesome man

Not sure that the wheels are a good idea, but absolutely love this
Same thing I was thinking. Moving while “going” would be little unsettling. Otherwise he has a great build and his homemade diverter is smart!
Espectacular, gracias por compartir tu visión y tan maravilloso trabajo.
Gran idea el separador de orina...
Fantástico trabajo, gracias.

Hi Habu, wich type of plastic did you use for the urine separateur ?
Thanks
Guess it is a HDPE plastic plate or acrylic glas? Should work with a bigger plastic bottle, too.
I think it's PET plastic sheeting.
He used Veralite 200 (PETG). I'm not sure where you can find it in the states. Thin-walled ABS might work too

What type of plastics is the urine separator made of?
das würde mich auch interessieren.
thats what i want to know, too.

A rubber band around the tops of the plastic bags in the containers will keep them from coming loose and falling into the container.
Great job man!
Amazing ideas and project
There is only one part I wouldn’t have done, glue the bottom lid to the main box. You have to clean under there! Other then that PERFECT!!
