    Just did this on my 1999 ford explorer xlt 5.0 V8 I also changed the tank took me about 3 hours without having to jack truck up or remove driveshaft but while doing it I saw why removing driveshaft helps especially for the strap but it's not necessary with the right tools thanks for the video used it to double check my work she fired right up after changing and running like a champ!!!
    Edit- cost me about $400 for new tank fuel pump module gasket and gas mechanic wanted to charge me $2000 lol

    Seems like it would be a good idea to change the fuel filter first before tackling this job. Thoughts?

    • @madmike214
      @madmike214 Год назад

      Usually for me, if the filter is easily accessible I'll do the pump, run it a few minutes then change the filter so I can attempt to "filter" anything that may have fallen into the lines when the pump was serviced...probably not necessary but that's what I do.

    Hey I’m in Oregon too. I have a 2000 explorer. I checked the fuel pump relay, and the fuse and the inertia switch and all good. But when turning on the key no fuel pump noise. Even if I bypass the relay with a jumper wire the fuel pump won’t engage. What are your thoughts? Bad fuel pump? Is there a way to test it without dropping the tank? Thank you

    • @fixergood
      @fixergood  Год назад

      usually if you bypass the the fuel pump relay and you don't hear it kick on that means it's bad. if you had a lab scope you could verify by putting a Amp probe on the wire and seeing if the was any reading like amperage of it trying to move. but if your in southern oregon rats have been bad lately you could have open wire down by the tank always inspect your harness. thanks for watchin really apreciate it be sure like and subscribe for more content.

    • @kenhart3885
      @kenhart3885 Год назад

      Give the key a bump, like one second in start mode and listen with out turning off the ignition, you should hear the pump. If not take off the fuel filler cap and get some one to listen, you should hear the pump

    Hi, your work is very neat. I have a 2002 Ford Explorer xlt and its been not running for 3 years. I have a new battery but when I start it up the engine runs but than it dies. I think it’s the fuel pump problem. What’s the cost to replace the fuel pump, labor and parts?

    • @LA_Commander

      Could also be bad gas in the tank. That would clog up everything. Recommend draining your tank, putting fresh fuel in, replacing your fuel filter, and giving that a try first, before you go with a major expense like replacing the fuel pump.

    • @SerenoOunce
      @SerenoOunce 3 года назад

      @@fixergood He said it runs for a moment so not a security issue. Some older GM's may behave that way but w/ Ford spark will be totally disabled. First thing I'd check is the MAF. Just unplug it and see if it behaves differently. Engine won't run well with it unplugged, but aught to run long enough so you can rule it our or not.

    • @fixergood

      It just depends if it has a Pat's system it will either let run fro 3 seconds and disable the the injectors, ir it will disable the starter. Depends on the vehicle and what generation the anti theft is

    Great video, but I have to say, I have replaced fuel pumps in a mazda, mercedes and bmw, and have never seen such a stupidly incompetent specimen of Engineering with regards to the location and access to a fuel pump. What moron hired the idiot at Ford who through this was a good idea? To have to almost pull apart the whole vehicle just to get access to the fuel pump when it easily could have had an access plate from the top is just ridiculous. I need to replace my 2003 UX Ford Explorer fuel pump and am amazed at the stupidity of the Ford Engineers.
